Unlike most 80's bands, Stryper is arguably better today, than they were back then. 'Fallen' (2015) is very arguably their best album, and 'Yahweh' is a work of art.
In an era where everything was "Devil" and evil and edgy, Stryper stood firm in their beliefs and told the trends to get lost. @@jesusmylordsaviorking3726 They did their own cover of Breaking the Law and other songs as homage to those they grew up listening to. Truth! The Lord basically said the sick doesn't need a doctor, so why would people just keep preaching the word to people who already know it? I used to hang out around a couple of Christian hardcore bands and they would play the dirtiest, roughest dive bars and Venues in Detroit that you'd ever see. I witnessed some incredible things that took place. They would announce they were a Christian hardcore band and many times, they'd get booed...things thrown at them, threats of violence, etc. Once they started playing, that all changed. People realized they weren't soft, they weren't just there for looks. They were the real deal. Crowd would go nuts. I even saw people that came up after the show who were the people threatening the band, that never believed in the creator and then asked to know more about Jesus. It was pretty powerful to see firsthand. They would play these places because they were typically a crowd who would never step foot in a church so they'd never have a chance to hear the word. I'd imagine that, it's safe to say, Stryper has a similar position of taking their music and message to many places and people who would never know it otherwise.

Same here. I'm an atheist and Stryper's lyrics and message don't typically resonate with me much. But they are very talented musicians, and Michael Sweet had, and has, an amazing voice.
I watched some recent interviews with Michael Sweet and he seems like a really nice, down to earth guy. His voice is still stellar as ever; I havent met anyone yet who hasnt at least acknowledged his vocal abilities.
Its unbelievable that Michael Sweet is in his 50's and can still sing like that its like he never ages. Just goes to show you be firm in your believes when it comes to god and he will strengthen you with all you do.
Wow Stryper never ceases to amaze me! Michael Sweet's vocals are still in prime condition. Incredible he can still shriek those high notes and with power! I for sure want to purchase this album. And I feel it has some thrashy elements along with a power metal vibe. Great stuff. God Bless!
Y’all should react to some of their older heavier songs as well, like “Soldiers Under Command” or “More Than a Man.” Stryper has always been a good mix of heavy and glam.
Best thing about Stryper is the dual guitars. If you're going to react to Iron Maiden, you should watch "Fear of the Dark" live at Rock in Rio 2001. The crowd participation is incredible.
The best thing about Stryper is... "Stryper"...the dual guitars is part of who they are, as well as the bold lyrics, stellar vocals, driving bass and hammering drums!
There aren’t many bands from the 80’s era that are still recording excellent quality music and at that level of musicianship in 2020. But Stryper certainly is! Still going strong and sounding better than ever. Stryper was one of my favorite bands back in the day and they STILL are.
Yeah. I didn't think about it. There was a spate of bands in the last 10 years or so put an album out and then kinda go back to "real" life. Even ones ghat never really went away I lost interest in. Except Stryper. Then again, they also do the hard work of marketing and staying active, engaging with fans on social media.
If you wanna hear out a song that shows their progress in Music I really Recommend you give a listen to Yahweh from their album Fallen, personally its one of my favorite tracks by them, huge EPIC vibes from that song!
I have always stated that Christian Musicians are my metal pastors with Rock sermons. Michael Sweet is close to 60 and he said he has lost an octave in is vocal range, and still can nail that scream. He said he learned to scream before he learned to sing. Please do some Bloodgood tight band Les Carlsen has a gravel in his vocals but his falsetto is amazing. I have over 900 cassettes from 70s, 80s, and 90s there are so many great bands. I was introduced to Christian Metal from a woman from LA visiting WA state 8n 1987. I was hooked. I hitchhiked from Longview Wa to LA in 1988 for our first date eventually lost contact then in 2006 we met and married the next day and we are serving God togather 16 years later.
Here's a list of Stryper songs you guys need to react to All for one Yahweh More than a man Reach out(original 80'sversion) Rockin the world No more hell to pay They have a lot of great songs, these are just a few that i think you should try next. Love your channel!
I have heard Stryper since the beginning and have followed them through out there career. I started in the 80s and I still listen to them I am an old rocken roller and I am 64 years young. They are awesome and Stryper keep Rocking for God. God Bless.
Great remark as you said that these guys didn’t fall as many other preachers, televangelists or CCM bands. They were in the middle, never completely part of CCM industry and initially being teased by the metal media of their time. They deserved a little bit of it, they were throwing bibles to the audience in their concerts... To me now, they show a good Christian stand. They did their 80’s crazy stuff, then completely fell in 90’s... bankrupted... and they’re back to life in this last decade. Check their recent songs Yahweh and The Valley. Now they are revered by their metal peers and Michael Sweet has been doing side projects with great metal names. They gave you good material for your theological approach but these guys are a great topic for Contemporary Church History. Great reaction! You just gave great fuel to my Metal and History world. Cheers!

Stryper is definitely not just an “80’s band”. They’ve been putting out consistently great hard rock records for 15 years now. Hope ya’ll check out all of it.
3 years later. I would love to see you guys react to some of the newer Stryper. "Yahweh" is arguably their most theological song and epic in the song structure.
The thing I love about Stryper is that, in its essence, they are beyond metal. The majority of metal just sings about evil and the devil to be cool and fit in. It's not rebellious at all. The interesting thing about Stryper is that they've had loyal fans of ALL walks of life...Christians, Atheists, Wiccans, Satanists, etc...the band is well respected and loved by so many.
So glad ya’ll liked it. Be sure to check out the last three albums No More Hell To Pay, Fallen and God D... Evil. It’s one of the very few bands that still has it vocally and musically to go along with touring every year and a new album every two years!!!
I see the Opeth shirt, does he like bands like Extol and Becoming The Archetype? You should react to Becoming The Archetype's adaptation of How Great Thou Art. Heavy worship at it's very best.

I was more into punk and Cross over bands back in the day Like Suicidal Tendencies, DRI , Kreator, Megadeth, Overkill, Death Angel . Also for Christian was like the Cricified , Living Sacrifice , Extol . Saying all that kinda made fun Of Stryper but when I did see them live . They threw new testament Bibles into the audience, I got one , I like some though off their first 2 album but appreciate them more now . I think they would b like classic rock , if they weren't Christian, but I am glad they r Christians.
You should do Rime of the Ancient Mariner from Iron Maiden. It tells you a story as its playing. Listen it from the "live after death" live version in '85
Would be interested to hear you react to the song Crucify by Bloodgood. Christian metal band from 80s. Great song off the album Detonation. Awesome album
I'm very late to the party and just found them in 2018...but quickly have become one of my favorite bands of all time...I already pre ordered the new album Sept 8th release...slowly buy their back catalog of albums 💿
Stryper are originally contemporary to Ratt and Motley Crue. They all started as heavy metal bands but evolved into glam (LA’s Glam, not the 70’s English Glam), also very influenced by MTV content and entertainment industry in LA. The 80’s metal also had fast beat and melodic songs (experience Aces High by Iron Maiden). In my view, “power metal” started mainly in Germany with bands like Helloween (listen to Eagle Fly Free). But the genre “power metal” only came in the mid-90’s.
Formula was obtain Jackson and /or Ibanez guitars and run it through Mesa Boogie stacks with the peak meters pegged. Then everything turned into Fender Telecasters and BOSS stompoxes pushed through whatever "dime store" Epiphone / Peavy / Fender was on hand.
You're right! Some of the Christian leaders back in the 80's that trashed them "fell from grace". It was those same leaders that lead to their album Against the Law.
Dude, what a beautiful and natural move into telling folks the good news that in Christ alone can we put down our masks, and see our real faces be molded into the likeness of the mask we once pretended was our real face!
So awesome that Stryper is still all about God’s word. Amazing song, it really surprised me. My favorite Christian metal band is Believer. Their album Sanity Obscure is so good and thought provoking. I think you guys would enjoy it.
I have a band recommendation for next video or future videos: the band "Theocracy" any of these songs would be awesome.."The Master Storyteller" "I Am" "Hide in the Fairytale" "30 Pieces of silver" any one of these you can't go wrong! Love the channel/videos keep it up and God bless you always.
Screwtape is great. Cool thing about Living Sacrifice, at least for a young christian in the late 1980s, early 1990s is Living Sacrifice tackled politics in a way that unabashedly connected Christianity and morality and political conservatism. Example "Darkened" on _Inhabit_ ends with an audio sample "Liberalism poisons the soul" from "See? I Told You So". That track and others suggest Christians need to be wary the motives that seem benign, even righteous on the outside, but are rotten at the core (eg Environmentalism, Animal Rights, Affirmative Action, Racial Justice, "Safe" sex) and threaten to undo a society that, so far in history, represents best chance of hope, freedom, and prosperity for all mankind.
Pleaseeee, I loved when you guys reacted to pisces - jinjer. They have a new song, very interesting, it's called Noah. I want to understand the ideia of the song. Best regards, love your work
Cemetery Gates is on Pantera's Cowboys from Hell album. The singer for Stryper reminds me of Rob Halford from Judas Priest with the high pitched vocals.
You guys rock! I happen to have discovered a metal church in Dayton Ohio that is Christian metal themed for those that love metal and the lord. Have you guys heard of it? Sounds really awsome. This song hits me every time when Michael sweet hits them high vibrato note in the beginning of his song.
Great lyrics, killer vocals & shredding guitars. Say what you may, Stryper always delivers and respect the meassage. Michael Sweet is still spreading the gospel. Much respect.
I love Stryper , I Believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins..... but it give us not the right to sin. We must life our live as close to God as possibel. Greetings from the Netherlands and just join youre channel.
Next do Theocracy - I Am. I listened to it again recently and got goosebumps in at least 3 different places. Has to be in the running for greatest Christian metal song of all time.
Good job analyzing this song. I like the sound too but particularly like the lyrics and how as you pointed out told the Gospel very clearly. I like how it traces God's redemptive plan through Jesus's sacrificial blood.
With that sermon, Peter is the foundation of Christ's true church. However, Mary preached the 1st sermon ever when she came from the tomb screaming He's ALIVE!!! He's Alive is a great song I'd LOVE to see you guys listen to
Awesome song. Their last three albums have been fantastic. No More Hell to Pay (2013); Fallen (2015) and God Damn Evil (2018). My favorite songs off albums respectively, “Revelation”, “Yahweh” and “The Valley”. New album shaping up to be another step forward.
Their long career is turning into a musical Pilgrims Progress. I am the same age as the band members and have followed them from the beginning. Compare their early fun loving light but solid gospel lyrics from the '80's to the current lyrics that reflect a lifetime of spiritual battle full of scars, pain, and firm resignation to Christ alone.
I think you guys would really like Theocracy. Someone mentioned I AM I highly recommend it. Also from their album As the World Bleeds I'd recommend Altar to the Unknown God Light of the World As the World Bleeds Just to get you started. Theocracy definitely worth the listen.
Stryper can rival any band in there league... They are that good. Stryper is true and honest in their delivery and message.... Man I love Stryper. Life long fan.
Thanks pastor Rob for the video and clothing link. Like there stuff. Really like the shirt your wearing in the video. Reminds me of a sleeping giant album cover. Definitely Kool. Love your reaction videos
Hi Rob and Gauge! Love the videos you guys put out! It always brightens my day to be exposed to new music and experience it with you both. I would highly recommend August Burns Red - Redemption or As I lay Dying - Behind me Lies Another Fallen Soldier. These two songs are very dear to me and I would love to hear your reaction/analysis.
hey, i only recently discovered your channel but i think what you guys are doing is great! really love the discussions after the songs. how about reacting to another slayer song? my recommendation is south of heaven. thanks for being awesome you guys!
For this channel, check out these Stryper songs: God Open Your Eyes Run in You The Plan Not That Kind of Guy And any of their cover songs (including "Jesus is Just Alright" and "After Forever")
I love this track!!! I have been a Stryper fan since "Soldiers Under Command" and have loved most everything they have put out. I am interested in your thoughts on the last track of the new album Even the Devil Believes. I am not going to post the title, as it is controversial. This one has me scratching my head... All the other tracks on the album are most excellent.... I know where they are coming from, but I am not sure about the delivery....
Believer was my first thrash metal concert of any band in 1989.Extraction from Mortality had just come out & they were amazing! They put out some solid music for a few years before quitting. Unfortunately after reuniting in the last decade it’s evident that Kurt Bachman their singer/guitarist/band leader doesn’t have any evident connection to Christianity any longer. I’m a lyric guy so I care what the message is in music & Believer definitely went in a different direction. I pray that he/they will return to their spiritual roots🙏🏼
Two extremely over the top Christian Bands that you should check out are Broken Flesh and Crimson Thorn. Extremely brutal music with a very open Christian lyrics. Really great guys as well.
Hey guys you outta check out Stryper new cd the final battle. Real heavy chords. New single transgresser is awesome. Saw them last night with my cousin here in Sacramento. Awesome concert, first time seeing them. Michael Sweet was asked if they are a Christian rock band and he answered we are Christians in a rock band. God bless🙏
Love the Opeth shirt! Wonder what Gage's favorite Opeth record is? You should react to some Saviour Machine! They're a criminally-underrated gothic/symphonic rock/metal band. Incredible lyrics and theatrical concerts.
Unlike most 80's bands, Stryper is arguably better today, than they were back then.
'Fallen' (2015) is very arguably their best album, and 'Yahweh' is a work of art.
I prefer no more hell to pay but that's a good one too.
Slam dancer agreed
well, maybe a little. But I prefer any 80s song (except against the law)
I prefer No More Hell to Pay, but Fallen was an absolute gem!
I rank NMHTP at the top as an all around masterpiece. My only discomfort with Fallen is the almost nonexistent bass playing.

Probably one of there best songs. With awesome lyrics and guitar
The most I like from this video is wachting a father spending time with his son!!
Michael Sweet is the singer of Stryper and he still can belt out the notes!
God bless you guys! I like tuning in to y'all's videos.
So awesome that Stryper is still all about God’s word. Amazing song, it really surprised me. My favorite Christian metal band is Believer. Their album Sanity Obscure is so good and thought provoking. I think you guys would enjoy it.
So glad you guys are back.
Should check out Living Sacrifice,, they were a big influence to Demon Hunter
Grate reaction and discussion. Should also react to the song more than a man.
That is a great and an underrated Stryper song. And could be a prequel to Blood From Above.
atranfanatic it’s literally been out for 2 days💀 how is it underrated?
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!! STRYPER RULES!!
Lol! It's funny that you mention Cemetery Gates cuz I thought of that too after the last high-pitched note.
Those screams! Definitely Had some Halford, but those last scream, reminds me of Like early Pantera! Even before Cowboys From Hell was released.
This is a great song. Looking forward to the new album. Great riffs. Great vocals. Nice solo
Next do Theocracy - I Am. I listened to it again recently and got goosebumps in at least 3 different places. Has to be in the running for greatest Christian metal song of all time.
I'm with you brother. If I'd known what 2020 would be like, I'd stayed in the 80's too! Much, better music and times then.
Good job analyzing this song. I like the sound too but particularly like the lyrics and how as you pointed out told the Gospel very clearly. I like how it traces God's redemptive plan through Jesus's sacrificial blood.
They was great back then and they are brilliant now ✝️❤️✝️
With that sermon, Peter is the foundation of Christ's true church.
Someone mentioned
I AM
I highly recommend it. Also from their album As the World Bleeds I'd recommend
Altar to the Unknown God
Light of the World
As the World Bleeds
Just to get you started.
That threw me for a loop when you mentioned Control Denied being their guitarist Shannon Hamm is a good friend of mine.
Amazing the singer can still reach those high notes at age 56 is amazing
Iron Maiden: Hallowed be thy name...Two minutes to midnight...
hey, i only recently discovered your channel but i think what you guys are doing is great! really love the discussions after the songs. how about reacting to another slayer song? my recommendation is south of heaven. thanks for being awesome you guys!
Have you heard Orphaned Land? They have lots of songs re: Abrahamic religions and even a whole conceptual album
The scream reminded me of their song THE REIGN
For this channel, check out these Stryper songs:
God
Open Your Eyes
Run in You
The Plan
Not That Kind of Guy
And any of their cover songs (including "Jesus is Just Alright" and "After Forever")
Sounds Great!!! I know, stryper for Long time une or my predilectChristian metal bans thanks from puerto rico god bless
I remember Stryper! Heck yeah lol
You should check out an obscure band from the late 80's called Believer. Amazing Christian progressive thrash
I wouldn't be opposed to some more Stryper reactions at all.
God bless🙏
Y'all need to review The Valley and Take It to the Cross. Stryper is a great band. 🤘
Love the Opeth shirt! Wonder what Gage's favorite Opeth record is?
You should react to some Saviour Machine! They're a criminally-underrated gothic/symphonic rock/metal band. Incredible lyrics and theatrical concerts.
