This is one of those forgotten classics that I wish more people would be exposed to by reactions. Perhaps then it would get the recognition it deserves. Glad you watched it and enjoyed it.
One of the most underrated movies from Bruce Willis. Never understood why it didn't do better at the box office, the cast is solid, the script really good and Tony Scott as the director.
One liner overload in this classic: "Spilled my warm cup of piss". "I like ice, leave it the fuck alone." "We're getting beaten up by the inventor of scrabble". "I'm gonna need a light". Is it perfect? No. Is it entertaining? Hell, yeah.
Before "Die Hard" turned Bruce Wilis into an action hero, he was a comedic actor, famous for playing a private detective on the sitcom "Moonlighting." He also was in a hilarious romantic comedy called, "Blind Date" with the absolutely gorgeous Kim Bassinger. Highly recommend. If you want to watch a couple more buddy cop movies, you can't go wrong with "Tango and Cash" or "Running Scared" (1986), both have lots of action and comedy (Running Scared has an awesome car chase!).
The Last Boy Scout was written by Shane Black, who was most famous for writing the screenplay for Lethal Weapon in 1987 and appearing as Rick Hawkins in the movie Predator that same year. Following the success of Lethal Weapon, Black was paid a record $1.75 million for the screenplay for The Last Boy Scout, making him the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood at the time. However, The Last Boy Scout underperformed at the box office, making nearly $60 million in the USA on a $43 million budget, and another $55 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $114.5 million, which was far below expectations given the star power of Bruce Willis, Damon Wayans, and director Tony Scott. Shane Black wrote two more film scripts for Last Action Hero and The Long Kiss Goodnight, both of which flopped and began the decline of Shane Black's career in Hollywood.
Wow, that's interesting and I'm always like nobody talks about this film even though it has Bruce Willis. Last Action Hero got Arnold, that didn't matter, Long Kiss Goodnight pretty much had the same formula as Die Hard, that didn't matter. You just never know which movies are going to breakthrough and which ones aren't.
Decline of his career? I was going to point out it was a Shane Black, too, but this comment does so well. Except, he went on from being a successful writer to start also directing with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which I love, went on to do one of the Iron Mans, the new predator, and a few other things. I think he's doing all right for himself.
@@richiecabral3602 Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang came out a decade after The Long Kiss Goodnight, so his career had stalled. Also, Iron Man 3 and that Predator sequel sucked
I was surprised to learn that this movie was nominated for several Razzies back in the day, because I liked it a lot. It's a good example of all those award ceremonies being nonsense.
@@williamswiniuch7527 Damon Wayans hates everyone. I've never heard about one set where he gets along with the rest of the cast. Ever. Not even In Living Color, and those where his siblings.
The opening title sequence with Bill Medley performing “Friday Night's a Great Night for Football" was a satire on ABC's old Monday Night Football opening sequence “All My Rowdy Friends" performed by Hank Williams Jr. in the 1980s and 1990s.
This film was such a classic, I first watched it in a Brisbane theatre as one of the last films I would watch with one of my best friends before he travelled to Israel for an open ticket holiday. My friend is now happily married with 3 young children while I live in the mountains with my lady managing a Business. My friend and I were only young at the time we saw this film we never know what path our future has in store but remember this we only get one shot at getting things right when we're young so make it count.
I love the cinematic look of this film, particularly how the close-ups seem just a little too close. I also love how the action looks, and the fact that a bunch of the small bad guy roles are played by comedians.
One of my favorite buddy pictures is "Running Scared"(1986) Starring Billy Crystal & (the late great)Gregory Hines. It really has the best buddy chemistry. Hines & Crystal became real life best friends while making the movie and it shows.
Yeah his earlier movies like this and True Romance were epic. He started to go too crazy with his later films like Domino/Man on Fire. Didn't like those too much.
Bro your reaction was spot on! Take it from a 53 year old that lived through all these great movies… this movie is soooo underrated… so many awesome one liners. Great reaction.
greetings and love from germany again....lov your reactions....and after you said "...awe, not the dogs," at the end of the movie i love you too....it just shows me what kind of man you are inside, .........stay safe and take care, buddy
Los Angeles Stallions running back Billy Cole, who shoots several Cleveland football players and then shoots himself in the opening scene, was played by famous Tae Bo instructor Billy Blanks.
dont think people appreciate Damon Wayans enough....Homie Claus..man,...those sketches he did on Living Colour....superb comedian....this team up with Willis was absolute gold...
Glad You Enjoyed This I Think This is a Fantastic Underrated Gem. Loads of Laughs, Tons of Action Always thought there should have been a Sequel to this.
The late, great Tony Scott at the helm. Shane Black as the hottest screenwriter on the scene. A buddy action flick that could stand Toe to Toe with Lethal Weapon. Willis is perfectly casted (a hero despite himself). Wayans doing his first big budget feature after 'In Living Colour' fame. Halle Berry after her debut in Jungle Fever, same year. The one-liners are undenialble. Action scenes are off the charts. Willis & Wayans were an unlikely pair (it still worked). It's all over the place with enough time to keep up with it.
I love this move so much. I even have a movie poster of it that I've hung onto since it came out. Another reason to miss video stores - they were a great place to buy movie posters they didn't need anymore! I have so many classics.
I know it isn't funny but the look in my guy's eyes when Haley was gunned down had me in stitches. My dude was really upset and that is what made it so funny. Another great reaction sire
Another great Tony Scott movie. I would recommend doing a lot more from his catalog. Man on fire is spectacular. Spy game, his remake of the taking of Pelham 123. All great movies.
I was going to leave more of a comment, but you covered it all in your wrap up. I do have to say you definitely nailed it about 80s Vanity and 90s Halle Berry :), a great movie one of my favorites.
This is my personal best movie. I know it's not the best, but the plot, the one-liners and the sarcasm made it for me. Finally someone reacted to it. Thanks
Speaking of Kim Coates getting his face punched by Bruce Willis, check out another movie that he's in: Innocent Blood, a John Landis Vampire/Mob comedy. It's so good.
I can't believe you reacted to this PROPS TO YOU💯👍👍. If you've never seen "16 blocks" with Bruce Willis & mos def, put it on the list in the future its pretty good.

The reason the comedy in this movie worked, is that it was written by Shane Black, the same guy who wrote all the Lethal Weapon 'buddy cop' movies. Another 'buddy' movie written by him worth watching is 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.
Vanity (R.I.P.) was definitely my favorite lady of the 1980s! ''The Last Boy Scout'' is one of my favorite (hardcore) action movies of the 1990s. I've read some comments, so I don't have to put some any extra movie trivia in my comment. P.E.ace from overseas, The Netherlands.
Thank you soook much for doing this movie! One of my favorites! There are so many rememberable lines. You hit it on the head with your ending thoughts. Great reaction!
The movie didn't have sequels per se, but they basically remade it twice. Kind of. The same writer did two other movies with a private detective /argumentative sidekick to follow the same formula as this one. In my opinion, better both times. Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. I just love the other two more. The first was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. The other was the Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. I very highly recommend both.
This is my favorite Bruce Willils action movie of all time and it's a damn shame that nobody seems to remember it or care about it. I used to watch it all the time back when it came out and I was kid and my friends and I used to own it on VHS in college and watch it all the time too. Also, it's not a random B movie. It's written by Shane Black (of Lethal Weapon fame) and directed by Tony Scott, so it had everything to be as successful as any other famous action movie of the same era yet somehow didn't land.

Some movies are so good, they don't require a sequel. In fact some movie 'franchises' could learn a lot from that.
