I think yall deeply misread quintus. Quintus warned maximus to be smart, and maximus ignored him. Commodus was the new emperor, if you wanted to supplant him you had to be tactful, feign loyalty like the sister did. When Quintus saw that Maximus' plan was to put on his armor and accuse the new emperor of murder with no evidence , he chose the "smart" decision to remain loyal to the new emperor and follow his orders, as soldiers do. But maximus was still his friend, and he still had no love for Commodus. So in the final fight, when he sees that maximus has the opportunity to kill Commodus, he makes sure Commodus doesn't receive any outside and unfair help. Quintus reminds me a little of varys with ned stark, varys tried his best to help ned, but when he realized ned was determined to make all the wrong choices, he chose not to die alongside him and live to fight another day. I dont think quintus or Varys are "snakes" for that
they seem to think standing against the emperor of fucking rome is like standing up to your boss at your 9 to 5 job , no bro ,you disobey the emperor(especially Commodus) you die , your family dies ,your friends die .
I love these guys, but yeah. I'm a little disappointed in their ability to read emotion and motivation. I always felt like Quintis obviously hated everything that was happening.
Quintus wasn't a snake, he was a soldier and he followed orders. His loyalty was to the Emperor who ever it may be and he didn't have the luxury to disobey orders.
YOU SAID IT. THANK YOU! This concept that you so aptly explained, was easy for me to see from the get go, it is rather disappointing for me to see so many viewers who are all but oblivious to this concept and how it was the reason for Quintus to do all that he did leading up to his defiance in the final battle. The extended version, (the deleted scene where Quintus had to present the soldiers who withheld the outcome of the botched execution of Maximus ordered by Commodus immediately following the death/murder of his father Marcus Aurelius) provides a better education to that concept to those who need it.
300 isn't even in the league just bad, it's nowhere near good. Nothing Zack-the-Hack does it good, nor does it have a cohesive story.@@danilooliveira6580
Gladiator is a masterpiece. The music, acting, story, cinematography….everything is light years above 300. Let’s be honest only things 300 has is its loosely based on actual events and it’s a stylized testosterone fueled guys movie.
Quintus didn’t know the emperor had actually been murdered until he hears Commodus basically admit it talking to Maximus before the final fight. That’s why he seemed to switch sides when telling everyone to sheath their swords.
I don’t think I’ve actually ever heard anyone compare this movie and 300. I think because they’re so cinematically vastly different it’s never even occurred to me. The only obvious comparison I can see is both use a very loose historical basis and very large portions of creative license in crafting a narrative. But 300 isn’t even an original work. It’s quite a faithful adaptation of Millers graphic novel. I like the source material but unlike Sin City I didn’t really think the screen version brought much more to the table. Gladiator is a far, far superior film experience imho
I mean, one is about ancient greeks and the other is about ancient romans and the time periods are completely different, so there's literally NO room for comparison here, idk why they're comparing these two movies. 😭😭
@@terrylandess6072 yes ofc that connection is kinda obvious. But in the 60s every one of those films would have had a much similar connection to each other in terms of cinematography, production style and conventions. It’s the stark contrast of these filmmaking elements in our 2 current examples that make it strange for me to group them together.
Cool fact: The Colosseum was "flooded" several times for mock naval battles, even providing an "island" for them to fight on foot. The Colosseum also had running water for drinking fountains. Also, Commodus actually fought in the Colosseum, except he dressed up as Hercules and killed unarmed prisoners. The real Commodus was a legit psycho, so his portrayal in this movie isn't too farfetched.
"Its Rome dude, not game of Thrones"..... dude, ancient Rome makes Game of Thrones look like Pingu..... the stuff they got up to would have made Cercei blush....
The irony is, there was a Rome series that lasted for two series, but ended up being cancelled because of how expensive it was, which if I recall, it was the most expensive show back then. That show led to what we have in Game of Thrones, and honestly, I feel the Rome series is better than GOT.
The need to watch Rome series.... Atia would swallow Cersei in one move... the back and forwards with Servilia was amazing and how Atia did respect her worthy opponents. Something that Cersei lacks and would never understood how to not underestimate a rival... hahahah
I think you misjudged Quintus. His position doesn’t afford him the luxury to take sides. He is loyal to the Emperor, whoever it may be. You need people like that in your army or cabinet, those that follow law and order and not pick and choose the laws they want to follow.
Exactly. He was essentially being asked to commit treason by his General. He wasnt there for the previous Caesars words. No one was. So he only had his word to go on; and as you stated his loyalty was to Rome, which means following the Caesars orders; which by rightful succession in this period was Commodus unless proven otherwise. He is a loyal soldier, he warned Maximus but Maximus was blinded by his loyalty and made a stupid choice.
@@danielmwale5789Commodus is the antagonist. Quintas didn’t know what Caesar told Maximus. For all he knew, Commodus was the appointed new Caesar and he, being a good soldier and faithful to the order, had no choice but to follow Commodus commands. Doesnt make him the antagonist.
Spot on. Quintus is a veteran soldier, but even more importantly he is an professional officer: his job is to follow orders as much to give orders. People like him are the base of every (successful) army. Yes he is loyal, not to his friend, but to Rome and always to Rome. As Maximus said :"I will always serve Rome". As other people said, he doesn't know what the emperor said to Maximus, nor he has any proof against Commodus. Legally, Maximus is a traitor/rebel: refusing to recognize the new emperor is an act of treason/rebellion.
Quintus just did his duty according to what he knew. He didn’t know Maximus was supposed to be emperor. Him defying the emperor at the end showed where his loyalty truly was.
As a Historian I have a dilemma with this movie because is so historically innacurate, but it so useful to show how Ancient Rome was. Also is so well done and the acting is so good.
I have the same dilemma, but I can completely forgive the historical inaccuracies; for the look, feel and immersive portrayal of what the world was like in ancient Rome.
I'm sorry but if you were a historian you wouldn't say that. You are allowed to say you're just a fan of ancient Rome. Because this movie has no info on how rome was because none of this happened.
I LOVE 300. But, G is an award winning movie. Heck, In 2021, Empire magazine ranked Gladiator 39th on its "100 Best Movies Of All Time" list, and declared it the 22nd best film of the 21st century.
After Commodus took power, sure. But he was clearly part of the army at the start of the movie and was not the Praetorian Prefect. which presumably was his position later in the movie. He may have believed Commodus' version of events, and thus didn't see himself as betraying anyone. Or, he may have been given an ultimatum, like Maximus. Whatever happened, Quintus obviously felt guilt. This is shown in the scene from the extended version of the movie, just before Commodus stabs Maximus. "I'm a soldier. I obey," Quintus told Maximus.
He didnt sell anyone out really. He followed orders and kept to the rules of arm to arm combat in the Gladiator arena. Actually giving the emperor another weapon would have broken the rules of Gladiator combat; it was forbidden to provide or be provided assistance and gladiators were ONLY to use the weapons provided for the fight.
@@887levi probably not, but couldn't he actually be the Praetorian Prefect in the beggining also? Considering the person he's protecting, Marcus Aurelius, is also on the battlefield. It's true that he would likely be by the Emperor's side, not by his General's, but I think some Praetorian Prefect also commanded armies. During Domitian's time for instance, Fuscus initiated a campaign against Decebalus, which ended in disaster, with the destruction of the Fifth Legion. But as you say the most likely solution is that he was just an officer in the army at the time
@@jarsky no dude...when the emperor tells you to give him your sword, you give it to him. By not doing so, he clearly defied the emperor because he finally stood up for what was right (not the silly rules).
@@blanketstarry7725 several emperors fought in the gladiator in the arena. They had to follow all the same rules of combat, the difference is that IRL they had armor and better weapons (often their opponent had lesser weapons and dull blades) from the start so always had the upper hand. So it's valid to assume he had to abide by the same rules in the movie adaptation as well, one on one combat could not be assisted once it started. Either way it's a fictional telling of how Commodus died anyway. He did fight in the arena, but he was assassinated in a roman bath
A lot of people miss that Quintus was the commander of the Praetorian Guard, who are the Caesar's personal bodyguards, so he wasn't betraying Maximus at the start of the movie. He was merely doing his job following his boss's orders now that Marcus Aurelius had died and Commodus was the new emperor. At the end of the movie when he refuses to help Commodus when he's fighting Maximus at the Colisseum and he orders the Praetorian Guard to not give him a sword, now that's when he actually betrayed his duty, but he did it for the greater good after what he did to Maximus and his family had weighted on him for a while. There's a deleted scene from the Director's Cut where he's shown being conflicted about Commodus and disapproving of his behavior as emperor about two thirds into the movie. Maximus always talks to Quintus with respect, even after ordering his execution and at the end of the movie when he instructs him to release the soldiers and fulfill Marcus Aurelius' wishes, because Maximus understands what the Praetorian Guard is as well as who Quintus is and why he did what he did, and he also understands the importance of seeing Quintus order the guard to not help Commodus at the very end.
And I think also because he was a little bit afraid of Maximus. He knows exactly how good Maximus is with a sword and he knows that he himself is responsible for the wife and kid's death. So he might not be comfortable letting Maximus stand close to him while he is armed.
Quintus and the soldiers werent “snakes” they were soldiers loyal to rome and their new emperor comanded them to kill maximus so they did their duty, they are loyal, not “snakes”
They were loyal to Rome by being sub servant to a murderer? I think we have different definitions of what loyal means. They fell online to protect their own self interests.
@@SovermanandVioboy - it’s simple definition of words. I wasn’t judging his actions just calling them what they were. The sitting Roman emperor wanted his power to transfer to Maximus then the senate. Commidus took it for himself. Quintus and the soilders fell in-line out of fear, not loyalty.
To be clear the soldiers involved were Praetorian Guard, who are solely loyal to the Emperor. They are the Emperor's bodyguard, and the only troops allowed to be armed in Rome. The regular army hated the Praetorian Guard, because they didn't go out and win wars for the empire.

in 1999, Oliver Reed who played the character Proximo, died while filming GLADIATOR. He had consumed 8 pints of beer, 12 shots of rum, half a bottle of whisky, and shots of cognac after challenging sailors from HMS Cumberland to a drinking contest in a pub. He was armwrestling sailors when he collapsed.
Yeah, Commodus was hugging him, I don't know how Spartan is so confident he stabbed him him the chest. The lung puncture will keep him alive long enough to "fight" and make Commodus look good.
The quote “what you do in life echoes into eternity” means a lot to me because I used it in my dads funeral… the quote has weight in every second of every day… the small kindness of telling someone they look good today or holding the door for people or giving a homeless guy a WaWa “corner food store” gift card … the ripple effect from your kindness can change lives … I have had someone contact me thanking me for being kind when I didn’t know him and how he was at the lowest point of his life but my kindness gave him hope and tears in his eyes showed me a picture of his newborn baby girl and said if I didn’t show him kindness he wouldn’t have been there for her
Gladiator is a true classic and populated by some top tier legends - the notorious, irrepressible OG bad boy Oliver Reed (who died during the making of the film), Derek Jacobi (who rose to fame in the BBC drama I, Claudius) and of course that other legendary bad boy brit - none other than Dumbledore himself - Richard Harris (disappointed you missed that one!). From the bits and pieces I've seen of 300, it appears to be heavily stylized & action orientated (with no shortage of that trademark Snyder slow-mo). Gladiator - whilst possessing its fair share of action - is first and foremost a drama. Sharing a historical setting doesn't necessarily make them comparable when they're not the same type of movie. A bit like comparing - say - Star Wars with Interstellar.
Almost half of 300 is in slowmo and he says this movie is aged because of the slowmo. And the few scenes with cgi that look better than most movies that come now days
"It's a kiss of warmth" is one of the most insightful comments I've heard in reaction videos. A lot of people cringe over it (and Spartan was about to) but you put it perfectly in perspective with what they've been through, and their history together.
Quintus was just being loyal to Rome, just like Maximus, but he didn't know that the emperor had been killed by Commodus. So he was just being loyal to the throne.
Joaquin Phoenix stole the show... just think of all the little moments he made your skin crawl, all the moments he made you hate him more... and more. Brilliant acting. I even heard that the scene where he barks at his sister, "AM I NOT MERCIFUL!!!" was improved. Genius.
He really is a great actor. I mean, he's the bad guy in this one, but his acting makes everyone else's better, and even in scenes he's not in, as the viewer you carry what the protagonists are up against.
Maximus doesn't hate Quintus because as a soldier he understands the chain of command. If Quintus had defied Commodus at any point, Quintus would just have been killed and replaced.
Quintus was never actually a bad guy. He was just following the orders he had. Back then if you were killed as a traitor your family died too. Quintus was a general like Maximus, so he was following orders from Caesar and was probably told Maximus was siding with the senators. He had no reason to question the death of the emperor. This is one of my favorites. Very different from the 300 but I consider this the better movie.
Beautiful movie, beautiful soundtrack and beautiful acting. Joaquin Phoenix and of course Russell Crowe are flawless in their performances. Crowe won the best actor Oscar and the movie won the Oscar for best film. With respect, there's no comparison between this movie and 300. No comparison at all. I really enjoyed y'alls reactions and commentary!
lol, Spartan misses on so many character motivations all the time. Also, 300 was stylized and fun, but Gladiator is 1000% a better movie. Oscar winner for Best Picture and Best Actor.
And also several other academy awards. Not to mention the numerous other awards it received in the other film circles. 300 won like a couple of small awards and something like an mtv award was it’s top honor. Agree 💯
So…. You love “warrior movies” and you’d never seen The Last Samurai or Gladiator until recently? Both are more famous and higher rated than 300. Gladiator is almost universally considered far, far better than the other two. I also don’t understand Spartan’s issue with “CGI”. There is barely any and it looks much better than modern special effects to me.
It's time to understand guys that all these "first reaction" channels are scam made jsut for views and monetization, duhh. Especially those that speak CONSTANTLY while whatching :D
@@dicekolev5360 Some might be but S&P clearly are not. They have told multiple times when they have seen something before and didn't do a reaction despite a lot of requests. Take Attack on Titan, The Dark Knight Trilogy or Vikings for example.
@@--------K1NG--------00 Outlaw King is the better and more accurate version of Braveheart. The outfits and armor are very accurate; in the 14th century, Scots wore armor and mail just like the English did, as opposed to wearing kilts and face paint, which was just wrong. As iconic and good as it was as a film, it was painfully inaccurate especially since Braveheart was the name given to King Robert the Bruce, not William Wallace.
Fun fact: Commodus most likely stabbed Maximus in the kidney, which is a k¡llshot. You take about twenty minutes to bleed out and you very slowly become drowsy and lose consciousness. All and all, a cunning stroke by the Little Emperor… … too bad for him, it wasn’t enough.
Never having been a fan of comic books, Gladiator for me is the superior film. 300 was a good watch, but you were never left with any sense of realism from it; it was pure fantasy. Gladiator was not a true story, but it was a believable one.
I never liked 300, even at the time. I thought it was trash, and i was confused as to why some people seemed to genuinely like it. On the other hand, i loved gladiator from the first time i watched it. It was a masterpiece then, and it still is today. Please, don't compare the two films. They are not playing in the same league.
To each their own, but Gladiator stampedes on Last Samurai or 300...not even close. Won 5 Oscars including best picture. I grew up with this movie and love it with all my heart. When the music hits I get goosebumps all the time and so happy about it. :)
300 is more like a stylized cartoon of an old legend. Gladiator is more like a period piece that immerses you in the reality of the times, and a gnarly story.
They originally planned for Maximus to live, but then Russell Crowe said, "What's he going to do after? Open up a f*cking burger joint?" 🤣Love this movie, thank you for your reactions!!
You need to read the graphic novel that the movie 300 is based on. Like, immediately. Also, on the Gladiator hype...back when it was released, my wife saw it before I did. She came home GA-GA about Russel Crowe. I was skeptical about that, and she said "Come see it, you'll get it." So we went to the theater, and by a half hour in, I turned to her and said "Yeah, I get it."
300 is based on a comicbook with fictional characters. Made with CGI at it's best. Gladiator is a story direct from history (even the tigers) with unedited character's. Not even comparable with each other. Much Love❤
Not quite. Taken altogether Millers graphic novel probably has a similar amount of historical basis as the narrative of Gladiator - ie some but very little. There was a Battle of Thermopylae fought in 480 BC between the Persian Empire under Xerxes I and an alliance of Greek city-states led by Sparta under Leonidas. Granted some of the look and feel of Rome, it’s army, city, politics, gladiators etc is a fairly reasonable portrayal, and while Marcus Aurelius was indeed an emperor, apparently stoic in rule in comparison to his son and successor a corrupt Commodus, not his death nor any other events from the movie have any basis in history.
The OP is calling out the fact that Spartan falsely believes he's an educated man on battles and military history. He constantly patronizes Pudgey for her suggestions (even when she's right), then with his full chest, confidently declare facts that are completely incorrect. It's painful to watch their reactions to these historical epics when the guy severely needs to open a book. It's fine to have a differing opinion on tastes, but they make their career on these monetized videos and the guy is an absolute moron. Society is really tanking. People with zero intelligence nor any exceptional skill are able to flourish thanks to social media.
Quintis never snakes him? He was following orders of who he believed was the frightful emperor .. he wasn’t in the tent to hear Maximus named successor. He was just following orders.
So you think he didn’t know Commidus killed his father? So Commidus went into his father’s tent, which would have been protected by guards and when he came out his father just happened to die of natural causes. lol, come on man. Quintus was a cowardly snake who chose to protect his own self interest by falling in line.
You honestly believe Quintus didn’t know Commidus killed his father? Quintus was a coward protecting his own self interest; bowing down to the man who he knew killed the man he was sworn to protect all to keep his position.
Russel Crowe won an Oscar for this film, Joaquin Phoenix only got nominated. For me they should have both won, Phoenix's portrayal was amazing and all the creepy
This thing that modern audiences often overlook about battles from a much older time, is that they tended to begin, and end on the same day, because there's no artificial light for ANY of the fighters. It's VERY hands on. There's no pulling of a trigger, then a tiny figure in the distance drops. It's up close and very personal. It's chaos, with everyone around you trying to stay alive. It's a big group of men, gathering to brawl until one of the sides flees the field. Most of the warriors are regular people, farmers, merchants etc pressed into service. Some cultures had professional warriors, whose JOB it is, to fight. It's a vast difference between that, and modern wars, where it's mass remote killing technology, and sides dug in for YEARS.
A very understated element is that the other gladiators KNOW who he is. When Maximus asks the other gladiators if they've served in the army prior to the first Colosseum fight, Hagan, the very large germanic fellow says, "Yes. I served with you at Vindobona." (from the subtitles) They know who he is.
Came here to post exactly that. It's a hugely underrated series, and it does take a few episodes for most people to really gel with it, but yeah, the show definitely has some 300 influences.
Quintus and Lucilla were in the same trap: Either obey the emperor, or you and everyone you love will die. Lucilla, as brave and honorable as she was, had to betray Maximus at the end. It was either that or see her son killed.
Since we're already on the early 2000's warrior movie trope train, Kingdom of Heaven - Directors Cut, and King Arthur definitely fit. Also Master and Commander, while not exactly a warrior movie, is absolutely another early 2000's banger.
Didn't check all comments, but in case it's not there: Ceasar here is the guy who played Dumbledoor in the first 2 Harry Potter movies! And like the rest of the comments says: GREAT movie!!!
If this is the only film you've seen with Russell Crowe in his prime, you're missing a lot of incredible films! Master and Commander, L.A. Confidential, Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, 3:10 To Yuma, American Gangster,... the list goes on and on. And, I have to agree with everyone who says it's crazy to even compare 300 to this movie. Gladiator is a superior film in every way.
The underlying theme that both 300 and Gladiator share is that age old human story... the fight for freedom. The most important of human stories. Maximus fighting to regain his. The Spartans fighting to retain theirs.
Honestly you guys should definitely follow up on this with Master and Commander - underrated naval film with Russell Crowe being a beast again. I think it fits the Spartan warrior movie framework like Gladiator and Last Samurai have.
A note on Quintus. If im not mistaken he is part of the praetorian guard who are the Caesar's body guards. Quintus job is to protect Commodus and with no obvious signs of murder, he was carrying out his orders for his new boss
I'd say he did a masterful job of it as well. Wasn't too over the top, had that... foreboding about him. Gleeson was pretty much EXACTLY how I pictured him in the books.
300 is a comic book brought to life. It's fun and exciting. Gladiator is an epic masterpiece in every sense of the word, the acting, the story, the emotion, and the music. Perfection. They are in different leagues with Gladiator being high above 300.
"pudgey hands" cracked me up 😂 on quintus hes the leader of the praetorian guard... that's like the kings guard from GOT. he's sworn to the caesar. first he was just follwing orders. but over time comodus treated everyone worse and worse including the praetorians and over time quintus saw how bad he was for rome. hence why at the end he was like fight your own battles with honour and commanded his men to not give the emperor a sword.
There is no comparison. Gladiator is 10 times the movie 300 was. 300 was entertaining and eye candy.. But Gladiator is a top all time film. It won best picture at the Oscars. And it definitely deserved it. 300 wasn't even nominated. Also.. The actress. Who plays Cersei.. Is Leonidas' wife in 300.

The extended version, (the deleted scene where Quintus had to present the soldiers who withheld the outcome of the botched execution of Maximus ordered by Commodus immediately following the death/murder of his father Marcus Aurelius) provides a better education to that concept to those who need it.
Yet he disobeyed in the end when he knew the emperor would lose. He's a snake picking whichever side is convenient.

Gladiator is a masterpiece. The music, acting, story, cinematography….everything is light years above 300.
Let’s be honest only things 300 has is its loosely based on actual events and it’s a stylized testosterone fueled guys movie.
There is no comparison to 300, Gladiator is one of the best movies ever!!!!
Both are racist takes on History ? 300 waaay more racist tho. Almost ruining the no brain experience
In the 60's we called this 'Sword and Sandal'. That's the only connection. Hercules, Sampson, so many different period pieces.
@@burtman. Don't guess. :)
Hahaha I was thinking the same thing! Those Caesars were batshit.
The irony is, there was a Rome series that lasted for two series, but ended up being cancelled because of how expensive it was, which if I recall, it was the most expensive show back then.
That show led to what we have in Game of Thrones, and honestly, I feel the Rome series is better than GOT.
All too true. This certainly isnt game of thrones but what does he think the big man based the Targaryens on?
The real game of thrones started at the death bed of Alexander the Great in Babylon.
The need to watch Rome series.... Atia would swallow Cersei in one move... the back and forwards with Servilia was amazing and how Atia did respect her worthy opponents. Something that Cersei lacks and would never understood how to not underestimate a rival... hahahah
300 is not even close to being as good as Gladiator, because Gladiator is always one of the best movies ever made
I think you misjudged Quintus.
Still the antagonist though
These 2 are not smart enough to pick up on subtle things.
and not to mention that if, on those times, you defied an emperor your head would be quickly separated from your body
lol 300 is like a video game
As a Historian I have a dilemma with this movie because is so historically innacurate, but it so useful to show how Ancient Rome was. Also is so well done and the acting is so good.
The people who made this movie couldn't pass up the chance to use the philosopher king, Marcus Aurelius.
Do you have a bigger dilemma with this movie or Braveheart?
@@NathanJasper Braveheart historically is crap

YES❤
Deserved obviously . Gladiator is one of these Movies, you'll still talk about in many many years.
I LOVE 300. But, G is an award winning movie. Heck, In 2021, Empire magazine ranked Gladiator 39th on its "100 Best Movies Of All Time" list, and declared it the 22nd best film of the 21st century.
Quintus was a Praetorian Guard Emperor's personal bodyguard. He didn't sell out Maximus, he actually sold out he emperor at the end
Gladiator is definitely better than 300. 300 is all cool, Gladiator is truly emotional.
Quintus was following instructions from the emperor. How was he supposed to know what Maximus knew?
Quintus threw Maximus' sword on the ground to let the people see that he was already injured before fighting.
And I think also because he was a little bit afraid of Maximus. He knows exactly how good Maximus is with a sword and he knows that he himself is responsible for the wife and kid's death. So he might not be comfortable letting Maximus stand close to him while he is armed.
No, I always read that as fear of Maximus
Quintus and the soldiers werent “snakes” they were soldiers loyal to rome and their new emperor comanded them to kill maximus so they did their duty, they are loyal, not “snakes”
They were loyal to Rome by being sub servant to a murderer? I think we have different definitions of what loyal means. They fell online to protect their own self interests.

To be clear the soldiers involved were Praetorian Guard, who are solely loyal to the Emperor. They are the Emperor's bodyguard, and the only troops allowed to be armed in Rome. The regular army hated the Praetorian Guard, because they didn't go out and win wars for the empire.

True
in 1999, Oliver Reed who played the character Proximo, died while filming GLADIATOR. He had consumed 8 pints of beer, 12 shots of rum, half a bottle of whisky, and shots of cognac after challenging sailors from HMS Cumberland to a drinking contest in a pub. He was armwrestling sailors when he collapsed.

300 is a great movie, but Gladiator is really on a higher level of film making.
Gladiator is 1 million percent better than 300 and its not even close. to say otherwise is just a lie
1,000,000%? If one lives long enough - they hear it all - thank you :)
Agree 💯
Oliver Reed's monologue about the crowd in the coliseum is better than anything in 300.

300 is good no doubt, but can’t hold a candle to either Gladiator or TLS

Joachin Phoenix performance was fantastic, you hate him !! His Patricide scene was some of the best acting I have ever seen.
lol @ Spartan not knowing about Rome. Where you think GOT got all of its fuckery from?
Slave: I can't fight, I speak 7 languages
Gladiator: Good, tomorrow you can scream in 7 languages 😂🤣
You guys should check out HBO's Rome. It's an amazing show and impressively historically accurate.
Definitely. After that, I'll add on the Spartacus series (2010).
Oh that was such a brilliant series!! Shame they didn't make more!!
It was so amazing! The friendship between Pullo (Ray Stevenson) and Vorenus (Kevin McKidd) was so well presented and emotional @SpartanandPudgey
ROME is the entire reason Got was greenlit.
Rome deserves to have more reactions than it has.
A note on Quintus. If im not mistaken he is part of the praetorian guard who are the Caesar's body guards. Quintus job is to protect Commodus and with no obvious signs of murder, he was carrying out his orders for his new boss
Jack Gleeson the actor who play JOFFREY in GOT modeled his Joffrey on the Commodus here.
Alright, Pudgey's "Maximus Is Gonna Kill Your Undefeated Gladiator" dance was epic. Suck it, Caesar.
Jack Gleeson, who played Jeoffrey in GoT has said Joaquin Phoenix' performance in this movie inspired his approach for the show.
"STRENGTH and HONOR", words to live by.
"pudgey hands" cracked me up 😂
on quintus hes the leader of the praetorian guard... that's like the kings guard from GOT. he's sworn to the caesar. first he was just follwing orders. but over time comodus treated everyone worse and worse including the praetorians and over time quintus saw how bad he was for rome. hence why at the end he was like fight your own battles with honour and commanded his men to not give the emperor a sword.
Spartacus: Blood And Sand is another Great Australian Actor playing a Great Man from history
It is a good series but too spicy for RUclips.
