Living in Norway, the best tent I have found for wild camping in unknown places has to be semi-free standing, tents can be like clothing so you need to dress for the occasion :)
I bought a 2-man Vango Force Ten CN Mk 2 tent, from "Blacks" in Plymouth, in 1978. That had the Orange inner with Built-in Rubber Groundsheet/Tray and the Green Nylon Flysheet. The pegs were Corrugated Steel V-channel with 'ears'. The Groundsheet had Six Rubber eyes - one at each corner and another two mid-way along the tray. The Flysheet also had six rubber eyes which were elongated and stretchy. A pair of Guy-ropes were fitted half-way up the flysheet and held the flysheet away from the inner tent. There were clips which also held the inner tent in tension, so the walls didn't flap in the breeze. The Poles were alloy with elastic bungies to hold them together. It used an A-frame arrangement at the Entrance, with a Ridge-pole and a Single support at the narrow end of the tent, which was Wedge shaped. Additional Twin Guy ropes were fitted at the top of the A-frame and at the foot end of the tent. The suggested method of erection was hang the tent from the ridge pole and A-frame, then add the Flysheet, but a simple modification meant I could erect the flysheet on the poles first, then hang the inner if it was raining; starting at the Foot of the tent and working towards the Door. My only complaint about the tent, was that I couldn't sit upright in it, even at the tall end, as although I'm only 5 ft 8 inches tall, I'm short in the legs and long in the body. At 3.6 Kilos, it was a bit heavy as a One-man carry, especially when also carrying my Army Issue 'Green Slug' sleeping bag. It got twenty years of quite heavy-duty use, from Wild camping on Dartmoor, to various Folk Festivals and even wild camping in Wales. It lived up to its name of Force Ten and even survived a Force Twelve on Two occasions; one on Dartmoor and the other on the Brecon Beacons. I last used it five years ago and it is still in very good condition, as the Rubber tray hasn't perished and all fixing points are still intact. After every use, it gets cleaned and thoroughly dried and then put away folded - not packed - in a cool dry place. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't cheap at the time and it's been proven to be worth every penny. Russ. Hampshire. UK.
It makes me laugh when it is classed as an affordable cheap tent. £250 for a tent ! Are people nuts. I am not a cheapscape but that's ridiculous. I have always used cheap tents that have done the job. I paid 65 for a three man tent in an emergency and it withstud horrendous winds in the west of Scotland.
From South Africa clock in number 41 😂 You and me both..... I snagged Kestrel III made by Back-packer...... 44 years ago ! In absolute pristine condition, and by pristine , as it left the factory.... Came with the Y adaptor accessory, still has the assembly sheet.! Back then, the Kestrel by Back-packer was used on mega adventures such as Killy. I had the Kestrel Ii when I was in my early teens and when in the mountains, a situation developed, and that tent probably saved my life. Like every tent there are small improvements, like toggle chords on the zippers, a second bag, (1 for the fly, 1 for the inner) I've put the original pegs aside to preserve them and substituted steel pegs.... the originals are alliminium alloy, and refreshed my memory of how the poles nest, one inside the other in groups of 3, and there are a few tiny things that I remember, like one wrap of insulation tape round the rubber feet to keep them in the poles.... Aaaaaaaa memories 44 years old, and I opened and pitched it, for the second time in the tents life.... ❤ Have to brag.... Pitched it today
Vango has been the go to tents for me, from scouting 40 years ago to recent long term set ups, current tent an Alton airbeam tent. perfect for a week away for me and the dog
Those toggle clips on the doors can be made a lot easier to manage by tying a hair band onto the loop with a larks head, then you'll find even them easy to use even with gloves on.
My go to winter tent is still my Vango Tempest 200, cracking bit of kit for crap weather, but suffers from lack of headroom too (but I am 8 foot 9) Vango still make some of the best tents going for the money
I'll stick with my helm 2 compact mate just that bit extra head room, and its never skipped a beat. Do prefer the colour of the vango though 👍 Would defo say its all the tent needed for wild camping
If the head height was 100cm I would of bought this as everything else is bang on! vestibule's could be bigger but like you say the majority of your gear would be inside. Looks like i'll be rubbing my bald head on the helm1 inner a bit longer.. the wait goes on for a tent with decent head room.. one of the best colour tents going , really stealthy in dogging areas I reckon.
I'm the same I'm 90cms when I sit up straight so do love a 100cm tent. Got a Helm 1 which does the job, and a wonderful headroom Campz lacanau 2 for summer.
OneTigris COSMITTO 2 £135.00. Only 300 grams heavier. But you can't set up without the inner. But as I alway use a trap over my tent I do not really need the outer till i feel its needed. So a good mesh is nice when it's really buggy.
As it's only you using it you can release the bathtub from the under floor strap to give yourself more porch room for when you're cooking in bad weather etc
I do like a Vango tent. I've the helvellyn 300 and the Tempest 200. They're both good tents, but I do prefer a tarp or a hammock for my wild camping. Great review, will be good to see how this fares up on a wild camp and hear your thoughts afterwards.
Looks very similar to the Helm 2, Vango could be onto a winner there. They’re not the only Helm copycats though, at the outdoor expo OlPro had the Ranger 2 on display for just £87, but of course had lesser materials and heavier pack weight for that outlay.
Vango tents, the best ever value for money & performance. I had a Vango Mk1 tent, lasted 37 years of hard use in all weathers / seasons / environments. UV finally degraded the flysheet, no longer waterproof, and, you know what? They wouldn't take it back under guarantee. Can't understand why. So now, after extensive research, since 2017 I have a Vango Xenon U/L 2 person tent, just BRILLIANT design, 4 season. Sadly due to disintegrating knees and age related issues, I can be sure that it will outlast me, if only that I can't use it like I had hoped
6’9”?! 🤨😂🤣 I’ve always loved the Vango tensioner system thingy, very clever. This is defo not the one for me with height being an issue, I like a bigger porch and would prefer semi geodesic for stability. Reminds me of an MSR design? I hope you have any adventures in her! 🥰
looks a great bit of kit ive got the vango shadow 2 and that can take some real hammer in high winds and its a few yrs old now still good condition with vango they are great for bad weather conditions especially the force 10 range i think you will be happy . a good choice that 👍
It reminds me a lot of my Decathlon's Quickhiker 2. It was a bit heavier, but they made a lighter version later. QH has much bigger vestibules though and was priced at somewhat about 80-90 EUR. I wonder why there aren't that many single-pitch tents, it makes a ton of difference in the rain.
Just bought this tent today after seeing your review and another review, not much difference between this and the helm 2 in height think about 5cm so not a big deal.
Every website I see selling this it isn't going for any less than £300 and some even at £375, no chance spending £300 plus on basically a one man tent with not much room for your Bergen.

Vango are great tents and everyone knows it. They don’t need RUclips because they have spent decades building their reputation in the field. I must say that I do like a larger vestibule for cooking in or doing a nice hot brew when the weather turns. No free tents from Vango…..lol. 😂
I've had other Vango tents and they've had that storage pocked for the tension strap but they are where you would have expected to find them.🤷♂️ For the money and weight, I'll stick with my Forclaz MT900 as it has better headroom all round, bigger vestibule and even extra groundsheet for kit storage in the vestibules. This one does seem to have more solid mesh on the inner though, so perhaps better in worse weather?.
I'm looking for something with more vestibule myself I want to be able to cook inside when it's raining. The new robens sprinter 2 is looking good at the moment, I'll wait for some reviews first
I have the Vango Banshee 200 an excellent tiny tent with an extremely low profile that's suited to windy conditions however the bathtub is rather thin and I don't feel confident camping around thorns briars or rocks sure an footprint would give more strength but I ask any who may have the experience of this tent..Is the groundsheet anymore robust than the Banshee or what's your opinion or practical use experience regards this tents groundsheet?
Thats the second review ive watched on it today .it looks good but head space lookes limited . I went for the radon 1 instead and i think it makes for a better 1 man tent than the helium 2 (i have ) and that nexus 2 . Yours does look very stable and coukd be a great mountain tent .plenty of floor space too i suspect . Beans and sausage.
@@Chilternwildcamperit's 1.5 kg .not 1.2 .but it does have a nice thick water proof ground sheet that the lighter msr/ nature hikes etc don't. So you don't need a second 250 grm ground sheet pushing them up to 1.5 kg same as the vango .
I have had the abisco light 1 for about a year.. great tent, in January I had it up a mountain in severe wind and blizzards, uneven ground.... it didn't move an inch. Fly sheet rattled a bit but inner was unmoved... good choice. Take care out there.
I think I may be on board with this one. But until you cook up a tin of ravioli in the vestibule we can't be sure. Are there two doors and two vestibules? (If so, that's two tins of ravioli. )
I was going to buy the Vango F10 Helium before the pioneer2 but it’s a bit shorter in height otherwise I would’ve. That’s only 1.23kgs so massively lighter than this Nexus. Possibly the best tent out there in my eyes if not bothered too much about sitting height at only 95cm
I have the Helium 1. I'm 6 foot and it fits me and I've spent a few times holed up in it as it blew a hoodie out. Managed to sit up. Good wee tent as long as you pitch it straight. My other vango is a Force 10 Jaffa so not a backpacking tent these days but it used to be😂 Nothing better than orange canvas. We don't have a two person vango so me and the wife have a Durston for that.
How do you find the tent so far next to helm? I have 3 tents Lanshan 2 pro Helm 1 Fjallravwn abisko lite 1 One of them i think needs to be sold..hard choice..
Looks like solid tent, do you get a free cute dog with every Vango tent they sell or was it just yours? I like the idea of the reinforcement ties/straps for only when you need them, could you not just tuck the loose string under the floor, until you hopefully never need it, but yeah its the UK so you probably will. As for that style of tent door, its handy to have a length of tent pole from one of your other squillions of tents you been sent for free (or a trekking pole) or maybe a wissened old stick to tie out and use as a mini awning, somewhere to sort of cook your beans under 👍
Being honest, I wouldn't be swapping my Coleman Cobra for it. Two doors, sturdy as hell, yes, the Cobra is heavier but I'll take that trade. More room & half the price. I know, Coleman aren't the most desirable tents but I've been using the 2 & 3 for last couple of years and they just work for me. Never had an issue with water ingress or condensation. Maybe if I was going on a multi-day hike, that extra 900 grms might make me rethink my choice though 😁
Gave my daughter my acobra 3 but still have the cobra 2 which is really a 1 .5. They are pretty bombproof but too heavy for me these days. I think the past time I used it was about 2019.
Does the inner have two d rings on the floor strap at 4:29. That way you can reduce the size of the inner and increase the vestibule. I can do that with the F10 Helium.
@@Silas-lf4cc it's not the weight per say it's that they are trying to pass it off as ultralight. I have a 2kg tent, it does the job but I wouldn't call it UL.
@@shawnr6117 I have the Vango F10 Helium 1 and that is 1.2 kg, so maybe not UL but pretty close. This 2 man version is huge inside and really sturdy, so at 1.9 kg's I'd say it was not far off an UL tent
The guy weighted the Tent with price and shop information still attached. It’s cards and I imagine when extra sewn in label info inside is removed.. and repair kit ..the weight of Tent …will be 1.9 kilo Hope that helps buyers .
You forgot to measure the height, cos if you did do you’d of seen that Vango have blatantly lied about that particular spec!! It’s actually only 87-88cm tall at the highest point on the inner tent, (outer tent is only 97cm tall) it should be 95cm and 105cm according to the supplied spec sheet diagram!?..🤷🏻♂️ That’s a huge variance, I think they should of stated 90/100cm which would have been a little more accurate… However, after testing it out up a hill the other night I can confirm that it’s not (I’m 5-10”) an issue for me. I’d describe it as spacious but cosy because of that lower height! Reminds me of the dens I used to make as a kid, and as such is currently my favourite shelter out of the eight I now own.. 👍🏻
I’m 5’10 and could sit up fine in the middle on top of my sleep mat the other night (only just though). Did you pull in the sides on the crossover pole to raise the middle?
Looks as if you need to be a short person..but that is pretty much what can be said about most tents!!! Viva la revolution for all us 6ft 4ins and over size people..
I certainly wouldn't want to set up this tent on a hilltop like a thousand feet up or 2,000 ft as for the price, that's too much to pay my backpack A tent is much cheaper smaller enough room for me to lay stretched out in the sleeping bag and using a rucksack as a pillow this backpack tent is great for a thousand ft 2,000 ft. Great for the beach and it's less. It's less than £70 pounds or less in sales. God bless
value for money these days...Tents offer the best bang for the buck. How come a decent 4 season tent can be had for less than £200 and yet a jacket can be £300 plus ???? its all madness

Look like a great dogging tent (🤣)- But - is it a Vern-killer?? Beans n sausage, my friends! 🫡
It eats Verns for breakfast. Beans ‘n sausage 🫡
Has it almost killed you yet? 😆
@@andym2584 twice.
As for that style of tent door, its handy to have a length of tent pole from one of your other squillions of tents you been sent for free (or a trekking pole) or maybe a wissened old stick to tie out and use as a mini awning, somewhere to sort of cook your beans under 👍
Naturehike sent me the dog to review 😁
I’ve just bought the berghaus Cheviot 2
Enjoy it 🫡
It’s a bit on the low side
Im still using a mirage pro 200. Its done me proud for the price.
Great tent 👌
Too low for me but not bad for the vertically challenged.
What's with all the string ?
I explained it in the video 🤪
Have you done a camp in this tent yet and will they be a vlog?
Not yet, I’m doing a hammock camp next then this will be next 👍
I still don't understand why vango don't do a force 10 version of the banshee, would sell like hot cakes surly, I mean I'd buy one
Does it have the thing where you can unclip the inner from the cross-tape at the bottom to temporarily make the vestibule deeper?
Yep, it does 👍
Does the t sx system not disconnect from the floor/door and get stored in the two small roof pockets?
It does now I’ve modified it. As standard it’s stuck at the floor.
Have you used in winter/strong winds/heavy rain?
No. It was only released in April. Looking forward to giving it a proper test though 👍
It wasn't the inner wrong way around.. It was the outer.
Deep.
Wouldve been nice to have seen it being pitched!
No need to shout 🤣
Im still hammering my krypton 2,
Looks like a decent tent.
Does the inner have two d rings on the floor strap at 4:29. That way you can reduce the size of the inner and increase the vestibule.
I can do that with the F10 Helium.
Yep 👍
It does result in a saggy inner...
Age can do that to you though
Nice
Cute dog 😊
Would not swap my Slumit Cub 2 for it even though it was half the price of this Vango.
At almost 2kg seems kinda heavy for something labeled UL.
If it’s not labelled UL nobody will buy it 😂
It's not heavy at all for a proper 2 man tent. There's loads of space inside, sitting up.isn't a problem for me, I'm 6'2. It really is a good tent
Are you related to Arthur daley ! 😊
Yes.

I watched the Minder series. I can see humor is genetics based!!
Would have been a better review if we could see how it goes together!
Shocking isn’t it.
The guy weighted the Tent with price and shop information still attached. It’s cards and I imagine when extra sewn in label info inside is removed.. and repair kit ..the weight of Tent …will be 1.9 kilo
Hope that helps buyers .
😱scandal. The labels add up to AT LEAST 47g!!!
Great review, thanks
two answers: 42 and Samya Alpine 2.0 condensfree. haha.
I wouldn’t want to be in that during some of the bigger storms with the significantly higher winds…..particularly unprotected.
I wouldn’t want to be in any tent in a storm
@@daleyoutdoors
I see….well there will always be surprises…good luck!
Ruby approved 🎉
Where do I buy this can I get a link please
It’s £240 at Tiso. Otherwise stick the name in Google like I said 👍
I'm laid on a lounger in Bulgaria searching for multi day hikes this could fit the bill quite nicely thanks for video and reply 👍
Nice looking tent, but tbh why would you not just have a Helm 2...
They’re pretty similar. My helm 2 was a bit flaptastic 😁
I really wish we could get uk camping equipment in the US without it costing an arm and leg. We either get cheap Chinese gear or overpriced stuff.
I wish we could get US gear in the UK! 😁
Ditto. Wish we could get US gear but like you costs an arm and a leg.
When are you planning on using it out in the real world?, I mean out in the wild?
Wednesday.
You forgot to measure the height, cos if you did do you’d of seen that Vango have blatantly lied about that particular spec!! It’s actually only 87-88cm tall at the highest point on the inner tent, (outer tent is only 97cm tall) it should be 95cm and 105cm according to the supplied spec sheet diagram!?..🤷🏻♂️
That’s a huge variance, I think they should of stated 90/100cm which would have been a little more accurate…
However, after testing it out up a hill the other night I can confirm that it’s not (I’m 5-10”) an issue for me.
@@daleyoutdoors yes I tensioned up the adjuster strap on the shorter pole, didn’t notice any difference tbh.
@@Ash12530 ok, just checking 👍
Hey young B - Ruby was more stealth than your tent 😋😋😂😂
Only here to see Ruby... She a sweetheart...lol
😁
No 5000mm HH ?
3000 fly, 6000 bathtub. More than enough 👍
I'd still take my OEX Phoxx 2 V2 over this for bikepacking...
Looks as if you need to be a short person..but that is pretty much what can be said about most tents!!! Viva la revolution for all us 6ft 4ins and over size people..
You should make a side by side video of this and 3f ul Taiji 😋
I don’t have a Taiji 2 anymore
Never realised you were 6 feet 9 inches and had over 8 million subscribers. Impressive stuff!
I know 💅🏻🤭
I certainly wouldn't want to set up this tent on a hilltop like a thousand feet up or 2,000 ft as for the price, that's too much to pay my backpack A tent is much cheaper smaller enough room for me to lay stretched out in the sleeping bag and using a rucksack as a pillow this backpack tent is great for a thousand ft 2,000 ft. Great for the beach and it's less. It's less than £70 pounds or less in sales. God bless
value for money these days...Tents offer the best bang for the buck. How come a decent 4 season tent can be had for less than £200 and yet a jacket can be £300 plus ???? its all madness
Maybe if you were strong and honourable Vango wouldn't have blanked you.
