Fun Fact about the Disney version of Beauty And The Beast: Originally, "Be Our Guest" was going to be sung to Maurice instead of Belle, but then the filmmakers realized that Maurice wasn't the main focus, and it didn't make sense to waste such a wonderful song on a secondary character, so they gave it to Belle instead.
Clearly, that thought never occurred at Golden Films when they were making their version.
In that case they would have had to change it to “Live Like a Queen”
It kinda makes sense here since Snap, Crackle, and Pop were deliberately trying to manipulate Sr. Mustache into angering the Beast to get Beauty to come and let them pass onto the afterlife (or, if my theory is correct, simply leave the story they accidentally trapped themselves in) as opposed to actual hosts trying to make someone genuinely feel at home.
The real story in this version: The ghosts did die by the hand of the beast and are forced to serve him for all eternity. One day, the beast gets bored, and writes a self-insert fanfiction where a beautiful girl who has a shit home life comes to his castle and falls in love with him. The beast isn't very creative, so he doesn't name half the characters, and names the girl "beauty." One day the ghosts are fed up with serving the beast, and when trying to hide for him, they accidentally go into Beast's fanfic, where they are forced to follow the logic of the story world, and are forced to help the book beast get with the girl. It's really just a tragedy where the ghosts live in eternal torment, and beast is a lonely, evil man in denial who thinks one day his beauty will come.

Ever since Phelous pointed out that Charles Martinet (aka Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and... er, Paarthurnax) worked in Golden Films movies, I’ve been looking for him in each Phelous review. Hasn’t been hard, he practically uses the same voice each time. Guess he’s glad he caught a break with the Mario series. Here, he’s the ghost in the red shirt. You can kinda hear his Mario, but it sounds more like a castrated Wario. Unfortunately, this is the only other film he did besides Anastasia, so my search ended up being very short.
Pretty sure Martinet also appeared in Little Angels: The Brightest Christmas too.

You know what's weird? The ghosts are pretty much the only characters in this thing that move the plot along, and the only characters with any motivation to do so.
The Beast mostly just sits around feeling sorry for himself, which is particularly fucked up when you consider the fact that his misdeeds in this version actually have a body count. He's forced to face three people who were killed by his actions every single day, and all he can think about is how he's unattractive now.
Beauty is a bit more proactive, but she mainly just reacts to whatever is going on around her. She goes where the plot needs her to, but does little else.
They have the most screentime, too. It's their movie
I do believe, this was a trend from these movie developers. Floaty gag characters that are color coded, and won't stop commenting small, inane jokes. Perhaps their only thought was that your story only qualifies as a "Kids' Story" if there's constant movement, sound effects and reassurence that its totally funny & light-hearted. When those vehicles for such are literally everywhere.... kind of hard for them not to carry the plot.

This Beast is closer to his Disney counterpart, and Beauty is delving into Aurora's looks, so it's Sleeping Beauty and the Beast in effect.
Okay, why do all the 'evil' step-sisters have more character than the so-called beauty?
And to tell you the truth....remember Mulan 2? The three sisters remind me of THEM, especially the smallest sister who always wants to shove food in her face. In fact their 'MORE' song is just a 'bad' version of the three sisters' song about how they wanted to be normal girls, complete with Eaty-McCakeface declaring how many pies and cakes she wanted to eat....in fact, I think THAT sister was also dressed in yellow as well.

I think I can actually explain the ghosts. They're from the real world and when they entered the storybook it assigned them roles to play in the story along with their backstory.
I'm sure that's not what the makers of this POH (Peice Of Shit) intended but it's more sense this way at least.

Phelous the ghosts' song was there equivalent of "Be Our Guest" where the servants gave Belle's father the food and similarly didn't seem to care that this might get him killed.

Weird, when I hear *Swan LAke*, I usually expect Bela Lugosi to start terrorising people, which actually suits this movie pretty well, what with three ghosts and a businessman invading a castle owned by a classic Universal Studios monster (even if it's just the Wolfman this time).
There is a version were the Beast looks like the Universal Wolfman!

Honestly, despite the more fluid animation, I genuinely prefer the Good Times version. At least that didn't have so many obnoxious 'wacky' sound effects, abused Tchaikovsky music at max volume, and completely unnecessary ghost characters.

Can I say I hate this version of Beauty and the Beast? It was mechanically produced, it's not making me feel anything, the music is messy, the drawings don't work, the voice cast is unknown, the story isn't going anywhere, and after watching it, I just lost time.

The carriage had doors. he could've gone inside the carriage.

Perhaps it's because I'm an uncultured swine, but when I hear that music from Swan Lake I automatically think of Dracula, not the actual ballet.

When I heard the music I think the anime Princess Tutu but at that had an excuse it have something to do with fairy tales.

While this shouldn’t be a surprise, since it’s Golden Films’ M.O. to be as sanitized as possible, their take on the Beast is easily the least “beastly” out of all these mockbusters. The goomba-warthog one from their collab with Goodtimes was pretty ridiculous too, but at least his design (as goofy as it was), with his shaggy, unkept fur, big fangs and claws, and minimal clothing gave a proper sense of him being feral and animalistic, or rather someone who was human once but has largely regressed into a more bestial state (both figuratively and literally), while this Beast is fully clothed, well-groomed, lacks any fangs or claws, has a fairly normal, moderately deep voice, and aside from throwing tantrums here and there, he comes off as very civilized, like he’s still the same spoiled human prince but just in his roided-up fursona. If the rest of the cast weren’t regular humans (and human ghosts), there would pretty much be nothing “beastly” about him. And this comes from the same people who think living musical instrument and living canoes that can walk around on land aren't worth batting an eye at XD
The swan lake music makes me think it would be cool if they did a Beauty & The Beast in the style of Lady Hawk. Beauty is a swan by day, human by night, and Beast is a prince by day, a beast by night. Kept apart until someone else figures out how to break their curse.
It's usually one of the two with a curse like that, not both. And you're asking WAY too much creativity and originality from a defunct company or anyone else in 2024.
The sad thing is that even Tchaikovsky couldn't make this pile of crap any better. Some say that on cold, dark winter nights, a single tear falls from heaven.
I remember how Disney's version ruined it for Don Bluth and Jim Henson to release movies based on the same story...WHY DIDN'T IT HAPPEN FOR THIS LOUSY MOVIE?!
Because those 2 have talent and could make a movie that people actually want to see so they would get attention. There's no such problem here since whoever worked on Golden Films' versions either didn't have any talent or just didn't give a shit. Probably both.
It didn't stop Golan-Globus either, but theirs was watchable!
