    Austin is completely wrong.. he said (and I responded):
    " If I remove a large CPU heatsink in favor of a smaller one the exhaust coming off my system would be hotter as the overall system temps are higher since the weaker cooler can't cope."
    Ya, that's NOT how it works. The HEAT ENERGY output of the PC remains the same regardless of the cooler (assuming it's not throttling). And it's that heat energy you are sampling. The temperature of the air can't tell you the temperature of a processor. You're confusing TEMPERATURE and HEAT ENERGY. They aren't the same thing. You also had a different NOISE LEVEL so we don't know the air flow difference either. You can't be certain of the processor temperature unless you have a SENSOR attached.

    Finally someone with some sense. The way austin rushed to get the new ps5 clearly shows he only cared about being first to post rather than take the time to do in depth tests, and repeat the tests to get average values, and publish the methods used so that anyone cam replicate and verify the reaults

    • @TNVGAMING
      @TNVGAMING  3 года назад +5

      And the "being first" mentality worked. . . and I don't feel like any RUclipsr is calling out the flawed approach to this entire "issue."
      The methods weren't demonstrated repeatedly, they didn't even bother to get he appropriate tools, and they assumed that the heat tied to the exhaust is a direct correlation that the chips themselves are running hotter. It is possible that the system may have been improved at removing trapped heat, thus the exhaust temperature increase but with out in depth testing it's strictly speculation being touted as objective fact.

    A little anecdote to saying that the hotter air is just because the system is doing it's job properly, there are other factors such as how much hot air is able to get produced by the system before being moved out.
    One reason why I say this is that when I replaced the stock Intel cooler to a massive noctua cooler I felt the exhaust air on my computer went from comfortably warm to chilled cold.

    The GamersNexus video was also flawed. They compromised the thermal putty by breaking it upon disassembly and then just pushing it back together. From factory the thermal putty wouldn't be assembled that way, it would have much better coverage. Another thing is that a different youtuber did a better job at applying their thermal sensors and they had 10 degrees celsius lower temps on average for the same tests.

    It’s not a giant leap in logic to assume that Sony’s reduction in production cost is a result of using less copper per unit and it resulted in more heat needing to be exhausted per unit. It’s an even bigger leap in logic to suggest it’s now a more efficient, more lightweight, and more cost effective aluminum heatsink and the additional heat is now magically being diverted from RAM to the now smaller heatsink.

    • @photonboy999

      His temperature results are meaningless. He was attempting to measure the output air temperature. We care about the temperature of the SoC (processor). Exhaust temperature can't tell you the temperature of the processor. If both old and new systems draw the same amount of energy they are thus EXHAUSTING the same amount of energy and that's what you sample when you test the temperature that way.
      You MUST have a sensor on, or near the processor to measure temperature. You can GUESS that the SoC is hotter because the heatsink is smaller but that proves nothing.

    • @TNVGAMING
      @TNVGAMING  3 года назад

      The difference is: the RAM isn't connected to a sufficient heat sink to carry away the heat from the chips itself. Hence the _potential_ for issues down the line. But it's very possible that the heat generated by the ram chips is within the manufacturer's tolerance limit.
      Getting hot from not having a heatsink/ stagnant air and getting hot from an inefficient heatsink are two different issues entirely. ESD has nothing to do with either of those scenarios as no PS5 system should have anything making contact with any of the chipsets otherwise that could be fatal for the system.

Austin did not cause fearmongering, and if anyone does fearmonger over his video, those people are the problem, not Austin. And while I don't think this is a big deal, it is fishy that PS5 gets a notable revision within a year.

    • @TNVGAMING
      @TNVGAMING  3 года назад

      Systems get revisions quickly. PS one got the SCPH-100X, SCPH-500X, SCPH-700X, SCPH-750X & SCPH-900X. With multiple board and CD drive changes from 1994-1999. Same goes for PS2, PLAYSTATION 3.
      You're not playing devil's advocate. You're appealing to his ignorance and incompetence by shifting the burden of proof onto me. He started this whole argument without substantial proof or in-depth testing done. . . and now it's *MY* responsibility to prove his claims wrong? _He_ needs to do his homework, provide the evidence, the benchmarks, the numbers and then I can go test his work to verify it is true. Heat expelled from the back does not directly tie into the thermals of the silicone(s) within the system. It is an indication of airflow.
      And while it may be fishy to you remember: times are not normal. Supply chains are constrained in every possible avenue. Look at the price of previous metals and how much they have skyrocketed in the past year: with copper going from $9/ foot to $27/ foot. (I can find the source for that I remember reading that somewhere) so these companies have to adapt or fail to deliver a product entirely. Take your pick.

      Look at Austin evens video. The heat sink is smaller that fact is clear as day. When he puts a heat gun to the system there is clearly a higher heat reading over the older version. Not sure what the issue is here? These are clearly facts.

    • @TNVGAMING
      @TNVGAMING  3 года назад

      Because more metal doesn't mean more efficiency. Having a heatsink absorb the heat is only one part of it's job. Airflow has to take over and carry the heat from the heatsink and out of the system. Anybody that actually knows a thing or two about hardware will tell you: a) you cannot get adequate temperature measurements of the silicone from the exhaust port of the system and b) high exhaust temps generally mean the cooling system is doing a good job taking heat _out_ of the system. If a system is exhausting cold air, that means hot air is trapped inside and not finding it's way out.
      It is a fact that the temperature of the exhaust is hotter, and it is a fact that the new heatsink is smaller. But the idea that it is somehow worse without proper testing on the silicone level is _opinion_ and a _guess_ at most.
      We don't know everything yet, and so far everyone can only speculate. But the difference is: I admit that this can go any way, and I'm not trying to pass of my speculations / opinions as *fact*

    • @TNVGAMING
      @TNVGAMING  3 года назад +2

      The console *DOESN'T* run hotter. Austin's 'tests' showed no benchmarks or readings so all you cannot say with absolute undeniable fact (yet) that the system is running hotter on the silicone level. We don't even know if the airflow is the same. All we know is that a) the heat sink is redesigned and b) the fan has changed with larger fins which should (in theory) improve exhaust and airflow.
      And downgrades are revisions; say hello to the original 60GB PLAYSTATION 3, the Slim and the Super Slim. Say hello to the Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E. Say hello to the Sega Genesis Model 1 & Model 2. Say hello to every. single. video game system that's ever had revisions since the beginning of the industry.
