Sublime Song !! - Sublime Performance - !! ... with such memories attached - !! ... I am so fortunate 2 have seen Dionne Warwick perform in cabaret @ the Sydney Hilton Ballroom in the 1980's or early 1990's (with me hiding with another staff member behind the curtains during the dinner break in our work - !!) Spine-tingling is all U can say about the magnificent Dionne Warwick - !!! - Don "Wingco" Paterson Sunshine Cst QLD Australia 🇦🇺
Her voice is what makes up my elementary years. This song came out when I was age 4 going on 5; and when I hear songs like this, I’m reminded of the Sunday trips in the car a.k.a. car rides we would take in Pennsylvania during blue law days. Easy listening while seated in the back seat with my sister… And then we would stop for ice cream or Popsicles. I looked back fondly on those days.
This was actually first recorded in London in 65 for Bacharach's Hitmaker album with The Breakaways on vocals, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones played skinny and fat strings on it too. Many artists have since recorded it.
I've always liked this song. It doesn't have the sweeping, dramatic allure that "Make It Easy On Yourself" or "Don't Make Me Over" or "Alfie" or "Anyone Who Had a Heart" has. I suppose it's closer in style to songs like "The Windows of the World" or "Message to Michael". I don't find it as solidly constructed or as lyrically interesting as the many Bacharach/David Dionne sang so magnificently, but she brings her vocal magic and makes it a worthy part of the story. Thank you for posting (I'm having a love/hate reaction to her outfit and stewardess-style hat).
This song really might have come out in '66. I heard this song in the summer of '65. This song must have been composed by some other lady or some other group: has a different voice and a slightly different Melody.
You're not the only one undecided - ... Just love them both as I do - !! ... The squeaky clean Billy J. Kramer & Dakotas version video (highly recommended) is just so "Wholesome" looking 4 a 'boy band' with Mr Bean the Dakota's drummer lightly tapping the tambourine as tho' he'd been a timbrelist with the Salvos his entire life b4 becoming the UK's Merseyside answer 2 The Beach Boys - !!! Enjoy both & alternate the vidz 4 sublime nostalgic pure heavenly joy - !! - Don 'Wingco' Paterson Sunshine Cst QLD Australia 🇦🇺

Should be awarded the Kennedy Center Honors as well !!!!! Don’t overlook Ms Warwick
The mood of this song is so emotionally compelling.
Very well sung. Beautiful lady, too

just described my childhood in PA as well...❤
You described my childhood in Texas and California!
Great song by a great artists with excellent lyrics!!!!!
I appreciate this more now that I'm older 💜
Funny how that works, but she was always a premier talent in my estimation. She personifies mellow soul, especially in early Scepter years.
My all time fav Dionne Warwick tune (written by the great, recently departed Burt Bacharach).
Music by Bacharach and lyrics by Hal David.
@@RJS1974 much thanks for clarifying this for me.
This is scrumptious.
I was 11 and I love this song. Bachrach and David.

FAB :)
❤️
Reminds me of my mum
RIP Mr Bacharach.
Burt Bacharach wrote it
He wrote the music. Hal David wrote the lyrics. Bacharach wrote music but not lyrics.
This song and REM's The One I Love make me feel bad for the girls I ghosted overseas as a Sailor
They were hookers. They didn't care.

They put this song in the English course. they exchanged words and tenses.
Can my prayer cross the sea?
I'm in a quandary, hers or Billy J Kramers version..

Hers.
I think that is an awful outfit, how could they make her wear something like that
