@Hayes Gunnar I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thanks Adam.... definitely a unique feeling to ride a 14' board! I was surfing that exact peak this morning, while the surf schools were down the beach..... deja vu all over again! 😊
Greetings from Falmouth, Cornwall. Loved watching this. I regularly surf an old waterlogged 14ft Fantic downwind board. Not with your style, but I think with a shared spirit. Keep on the water.
Hi there. Loved this one. I took my new shorter sup out this morn. 1-3 ft sliders. Had a blast. Loved it. 9’6. 31.5 in wide. 4.1/4 thick. Just a great time. Still watching and loving viewing your videos. Using some of your skills too. Especially using the paddle to guide. Love it.
Had this same experience just yesterday. Had a long SUP for the day,11.5ft. The lineups were crowded but I was looking between them in the back at beautiful 3-4ft rollers completely untouched. I was having to take breaks from catching too many waves in the first hour. It's amazing how much more surfing you can do. The lineup was scrapping over 2-3ft closeouts while I was with one other guy feasting on slow rollers from out the back. Only weird thing - I was in Florida, an hour south of NSB. So I made peace with the fact I was probably unknowingly visited by at least 2-3 sharks (maybe 50) while out that far. Oh well, better jump back on real quick! Love your videos!
That’s awesome prodigy! So cool to be able to glide around effortlessly outside the pack! I surf with the sharks in Florida every winter. Nothing to worry about unless your in whitewater when they are chasing fish. Check out my video “Mobbed by sharks” to see how little they actually care about us. Ha ha… yeah, I experimented with a “clickbait” title on that one 😂
Such a calming session...I love those small days with clean waves and a big board, and few people at lineup. I thought my 11.6 was a big board but 14 feet is a lot to pivot around...you do it gracefully!
great footwork and moving that big board around the waves....awesome. Nearly amputated by finger a month ago (caught in my leash) while paddle surfing. This video is motivation to heal and get back out! thanks!
Hi Shane That was a very fun sand bank that summer.... perfect for the long, slow roll! Every now and then we get a good softie, but that was exceptional in the way it set up!
14' - wow no shortage of down the line speed on that search and it manuvers pretty well to. Impressive stuff Rick. Thx for sharing & great music selection :)
Thanks Mark! I smiled when I read that you just got into this, because I know the stoke that comes with that 🤗 After surfing since 1964, it was like living the dream all over again. Enjoy the ride! @@rickweeks I didn't start surfing until my 40's then someone stole my board so I stopped for a while and since Christmas I have started on the SUP & loving it
For decades of my surfing life waves like that would have been boring and unridable on even a long board. I've been SUP surfing for 5 years and that wave looks super fun now.
Thanks Jim! I have every kind of SUP, except raceboard. I surf them all... long is awesome, short is awesome, and I get wet on all of them! 🤣 Like golf... you play with everything in your bag.
Awesome, just awesome! Not fighting but simply enjoying and the conditions are looking wonderful. Gosh, this is what I would love to do, how can I learn it? I'll find a way, you just made my day, thank you heaps!!!! xxx
What manner of place is this with those beautiful clean rolling waves. I know its not the Gulf Coast of Florida😂 we only get waves like that maybe three times a year and the rest is chop and slop.
Tried supping yesterday, got a paddle in the face and don't like it so much as for now. But every thing is a learned skill so i have to practice if i want to be able to do it.
Hi Sander My MO is to hold the paddle firmly in both hands during any wipeout. I keep it across in front of me, to protect me from my board. The paddle takes getting used to…. it will come if you stay aware of it. It is a great aid in balance if you always keep in in the water, with the blade flat on the water. It becomes a 3rd leg.
Rick Weeks thank you for answering my question ! I keep you my eye on your youtube chenel .you got good skill i just start learn SUP surfing , will uproad on my you tube :)
Sweet long rides! A question if I may? I want to get a longboard sup for catching small and or unbroken waves, early. Would 11 foot be long enough.? I’m 150lbs/ 65kg. Thank you, Merry Christmas.
11 foot would work for catching small waves (1-2ft), but also board width and shape (rocker) is important too. Most mainstream sups are too wide (31-33in at 11ft) to catch these small waves and good glide, so pay attention to the width (there are many skinnier boards out there, but you have to seek them out). I weigh 140# and have a 10x28inch board and catch tons of small waves. But the skinnier boards are harder to learn on because they are less stable. Longer is always better for small waves, the longer the better.
@@ilumen8810 I rented a starboard whopper (10'x36") while on vacation in Rincon de Guayabitos Mexico. The waves were probably a bit smaller than this video and it was some nice easy paddle surfing for me. I'm 6'1" 215lbs. So the width isn't that much of a hindrance. I did have to give a bit of a push with the paddle once in a while.
Hi Yama Biru! I left on a 3 month trip around Christmas, so I missed your question. My experience says that if your small, unbroken waves are beachbreak, a really big board is difficult to turn without some wave energy. At 150 lbs, you could ride a 9'5 or 10' x 30 easily in weak or unbroken waves.... a little rail curve at the hips makes for easier turning in low power surf. If you have a pointbreak type wave, long is totally awesome, regardless of rider weight. I just got a 12' x 32 Sunova Point Break, that is amazing in everything! (vid on my channel)
Personally, I would have fallen off most waves, dude, you rock. "The best surfer in the water, is the one having the most fun". The Duke.
Thanks TOF... it was an amazing revelation when I first took out the 14'er. I began to appreciate the old Waikiki crew sliding those easy rollers.
@@rickweeks I fully agree, nothing is so much as sliding along an easy roller on waves that no one else can catch.
I think Phil Edwards said that
"Good surfing is making it look easy"... and this is exactly what you do ! Thanks for the video !
