62 here. I started going grey in my 30's now I am white. I bobbed it chin-length a year ago. Hated it. Never looked older. Now it's long and layered and I love it. He didn't say anything like that. He is saying that if the texture of our hair changed or thinned out at the bottom going a little shorter will help it to look better. He didn't say you're too old to have long hair. If you still have full thickness of your hair and the texture hasn't changed then he is not suggesting to cut it off.

Agree!! I have very fine hair and needed a bob while I was in my 30s, and 40s. Now, that I’m older, there is nothing that looks more aged then a bob, bangs, and glasses. Now, I’ve grown out my bangs, letting my natural silver highlight come in and aged a bit more length and soft waves. Way better than the bob that was making me look just frumpy. I’ve see some older grey hair women with medium-long hair look amazing. The lady I’m thinking of has thick, healthy hair, and she also has a pretty face. She is rocking that look in her elder years. The silver hair is so healthy and pretty. My Mom also had fine hair and she looks great in the bob in her 70s. The shining grey hair with her blue eyes was lovely in comparison to the brassy hair of her 40s, and 50s.
      So, it really is individual!!

Far more versatile, i can wear it down, curl it, or many up-dos, even hair bands, clips etc, great to accessorise. Will be keeping it long for the foreseeable future, no matter if someone appears to say it should be short. When i look at other ladies of a certain age with short hair I cant help but think their hairstyles all look similar.

My hair has become considerably more thin in very recent years, particularly after having COVID, but I still continue to wear it long, having the ends trimmed regularly. Several of my age related friends have had their hair cut short and I think it ages them a bit. Nothing age more a mature woman then short hair. It's lazy and not attractive. Short hair can be experienced when much younger but as a lady age she should find an elegant long hair style and stick with it, it's timeless! You can take supplements for your hair too, Vit D, Zinc/Cooper 15:1, HA 200mg, ceramide capsules, Tocotrienol...DHT is also a problem pst meno, Saw palmetto can help with that as well. Rebalancing hormones with progesterone cream as well will help. Everyones different but as we age it's best to try suppl and experience what works for yu. Blood tests are good too but won't give you accuracy like saliva test. People can gain back their hair as it was post illness as well as post meno.

@@Vrin137 Thanks for the info…I will look into some of these things a bit. I, however, do not agree that short hair reflects laziness. Quite the contrary. For most of my adult life, I had short hair and it was much more work (and product) than I ever have to deal with having long hair. I have seen many older women who have really awesome short hairstyles. I have even met women who had little to no hair and were absolutely stunning! It’s not all about the bow on the package as it is the presentation and presence of the package it adorns. Many women can pull off the most flattering short or minimal hairstyles.

@@justinhickox Good try, but lame, late attempt to try and make up for being so old and outdated yourself that you still think it's even reasonably tolerable intelligent or appropriate to boss women around like we're too damn stupid to know what to do with their own freaking hair in a world where we have so much information and knowledge from growing up with magazines and styling and hair nourishing knowledge that you want to tell us what to do with her hair, what looks appropriate and what doesn't.
You're not a go-to person for this kind of information anymore because you think you have to tell us stupid little women like we're from the 1950s what to do with our hair. It's men and your age that do that sort of asinine nonsense sadly. And you're so intelligent and talented it really is a shame.
Apologies for lack of punctuation etc, I'm busy and this is not worth my time but I definitely wanted to reply nevertheless. Ugh.
And by the way, nobody asked you. You're welcome in my book to offer ways of styling long hair when we're older cuz that might be a bit tricky for us to put our head around as no one gets used to aging it just happens and we have to adjust quickly! Try to do better. Especially with your titles, concept and approach.
This is extremely disrespectful and that woman dramatizing being angry at the beginning just points up with an asinine idiot you are. Your video should never have been done this way that's what I'll tell you, how to do hair videos for women when you're too old as a man to know how to approach it like a human being with respect as we're all in this aging thing together. Again try to do better!

I'm 67, and I live in HI, Kona side of Hawaii Island. Right before moving from Seattle, I got a pixie, which I have had many times and it seems it's always right at the moment of a great life change. So this was one of those times. I did have an opportunity to see how my hair would respond to the air and water while here on vacation. Let me say it was not good. It was frizzy, limp and hot because of the humidity during our summer months. I thought I could go to a salon and ask for a pixie cut, but the longer I've lived here the more I came to the realization the almost EVERYONE has long hair and it's nearly impossible to find someone who knows how to cut a short style and who's not terrified to do so. I still am challenged in this as I've had two cuts since moving here and the cuts are not the same as on the mainland and they admittedly tell me they can't do it. Almost tempted to grow it out again, just like I did during COVID when everything was shut down, including salons. Not sure what I'm asking for here, but maybe it's nothing but venting a bit. Thanks for listening.

I am 53. Cut my hair in the cutest chin length bob last year. The thing nobody tells you, is that because I live in TX…it was so HOT! It was horrible to sleep with because there was no way to escape it. My neck has never sweated more. I couldn’t put it in a pony tail to sleep with like I used to. I have finally grown in back out and and am back to happily wearing pony tails and messy buns. It’s at length that looks good and not straggly if I curl it and wear it long. I don’t have the patience or time to maintain short hair. I thought it would be easier, but I was wrong.

I agree, I had a cute bob also, but it was a lot of work to keep the style looking good. I now have a past the shoulder layered long cut and it is so much easier. My hair falls into the style much better and I can wear a ponytail or messy bun.

I too agree! I'm 65 and had very long hair for a long time. I finally cut it into a bob and it's a lot more maintenance and I too sweat at night w/o being able to put it up. Now I'm letting grow a little longer so I can put it up when I want.

Experience: Born with wonderfully abundant slightly waved hair that curls easily. With no time to mess with hair, I wore a pixie for over 55 years. COVID came along, so no salon visits for over a year. Hair grew at will into a magnificent white mane. After years of chopping it off to 3 to 4 inches, I had no idea what it actually looked like. Even though my hair is gradually thinning and shedding, I’m keeping my ponytail until it’s ridiculously thin. Then I’ll cut it all off again and opt for wigs. I’ll be about 92 by then. Sounds like a plan 🤭

My exact story. I cut it into a long shag…I wanted medium but he was a new stylist to me….tired of 4 bad haircuts so I changed. Next week I have the 2nd appointment with him, going for what I originally wanted, just above the shoulders. The first cut I said leave it long enough to put it in a pony….so not sure if I’ll like this.
The pony is just handy, especially in the summer. My big hobby is gardening, a pony gets my hair out of the way.
I think life is short, be comfortable, who cares really. There are tools to put long hair into a stylish look if needed. In the end do what is comfortable for your daily life.

It's YOUR hair. It does not belong to anyone else. Keep it however you like it and don't let someone take it from you if that's not what you, yourself want to do. I had short hair for a time as a kid. I got more complements on my short hair than I ever did on my long hair, but I never felt worse about my appearance than when I was receiving all those complements on my short hair. I thought I was ugly no matter what anyone said. I didn't even want to look at myself above the shoulder in the mirror. I am so glad I had the courage to say no more hair cuts and let it grow. I've had long hair ever since.

Agreed. For me it was always the opposite: everyone told me to keep my long hair, but I wanted it gone. A week ago I finally cut it off and now I have the short, kinda purposefully shaggy hair cut that I wanted for a long time. It took off so much weight from my head and neck! (I can't afford a hair dresser so I did it by myself; might be a bit crooked on the back of my head, but who cares)

62 here too. Been through hell & back with multiple traumas the past three years. Well, 10 years, really. For the FIRST time in my adult life I’m letting my hair grow long. I lost a lot of it with sickness & emotional traumas, so I’m reminded to relax, to breathe, to take life day by day, to put my mental, spiritual & physical health a TOP priority. It’s getting thicker & healthier. My hair is white, with random brown mixed in which I love. When neglected, it can be chalky in texture, so it needs LOTS of love & care to be soft and shiny. It’s a metaphor - priorities - me first because I’m worthy of love and care. When I’m not loving my hair, that’s when it needs the most attention. When I’m not feeling love, that’s when I need to love myself. My hair has become the canary in the coal mine of my life. I nurture it, and love it. Growing my hair out as long as it will go, and loving the journey. ❤

I'm 46 and have spent the last few years with my hair about to my bra strap. Recently I grabbed a handheld mirror so I could see it from the back and I was appalled. It looked fine from every angle (I styled it in big waves) except from the full back view where you could see how lank and stringy it was. I texted my hair lady that second and was in the shop the next day. We went with a messy, slightly stacked lob just skimming my shoulders and it is SO flattering. My natural curls came back to life, there's volume and movement and my 21 year old said it took 10 years off.

I am in my mid 60’s, my hair is elbow length and I have my husband trim my hair for me, every couple months to keep my ends neat. I wear different braids that he does for me, so I don’t want layers that will leave my ends looking straggly. I have not been to a salon in over 20 years, and I did have a few years where I had my hair cut short, usually by my sister, but looking back at old photos, I can see how I did not look good with short hair, so I’m not going to make that same mistake again.

I'm almost 45. I used to have short frizzy, dry looking hair. I also used to get eyelash extensions because my lashes were basically non existent. I also work from home so I don't have to style my hair ever. About 2 years ago, I started taking Ionic Zinc in the drops and whole vitamin C, not just ascorbic acid, and my hair took off growing and so did my eye lashes. Now my hair is touching my bum and my lashes are longer than ever! My hair is so long and soft and shiny and healthy! I get so many compliments and love it. I wear it in a bun when I sleep cause it sucks rolling over and pin your head down unintentionally. I wash my hair about 3 times a week and have always only put shampoo on my scalp and conditioner on my ends. I suppose I'll consider cutting my hair if it becomes too heavy and I can't hold my head up any longer. lolol

I am one of the viewers that actually listened for more than 5 seconds and I will definitely say 100% NO. I am 48 right now but that age is approaching and no way will I ever cut my long hair. Have had long hair since I was a little girl and have loved it every step of the way. My personnel insight...if you have long, healthy hair and love it, age is only a number and you should 100% keep it if you love it. I know I will. I do not understand the dogma that the older you get, the shorter your hair should be. I guess they want you to leave this world the way you came into it. Short hair...
I do agree with some of the comments below that cutting off your hair does tend to make you look even older BUT some women look better with short hair than they do with long hair.
You should do what makes you feel best about yourself wether long or short hair..who cares..there are no rules here (except the ones that society tries to put on you.)
I have seen some little old ladies with long hair and they would mostly keep it in a bun..but they were so cute! I loved seeing that youthfulness about them and they embraced it!
So thanks for the video but NO THANK YOU! I will leave this planet with my long, beautiful hair. Thank you.

    • @jenniferloftus2363
      @jenniferloftus2363 6 месяцев назад +3

Yes it totally depends on the person. Some never looked good with long and vice versa. I think the big deal for me is not just keeping it one way because that's how I always wore it. I do see ladies and men running around with hairstyles that they had in high school and now they're in their 50s and it just doesn't look great. Then again, some of the styles probably didn't look good at the time, either, they were just in style. I used to have very very long hair but I also had very short hair at times. I like to change it up. Why not, right? I think keeping a very specific style from one era could age someone quite a bit. That could be long or short. Frankly, I laugh when I hear oh you can't wear this or you're too old for that. You know what that does for someone like me? Makes me run out and buy that mini skirt I'm supposedly too old to wear.

I've never had, nor wanted, a hairstyle that was in style.
I wore long braids as a kid.
OK, as a teen I wanted to look like Cher - with the long straight hair that was so popular in the 1960s!
But I have fluffy, wavy hair, that does not do that naturally, until it is long.
I got over wanting to look like someone else, and loved my long fluffy/wavy hair until I had my daughter at 40, and she liked to hook her hands into my hair (of course!)
I cut it "short" (for me) - just past the shoulders, and layered, and loved the fullness and curls! I just wash and let air dry, no fussing. Now that I am older, I realize I like a layered, sort of shag (but a bit wilder) haircut, that shows off my hair, but I can still clip the back and sides up off my neck to be out of the way. With a little bit of softness around my face, so shorter there - but not like a mullet my goodness no! (The pic here has the back clipped up, it's only this short in the front.)
I will always wear my hair in a way that is comfortable, never needs fussing, just a good cut and naturally dried, and I like.
It is also still thick, never gets split ends, and looks as good naturally platinum as when I used red henna for 12 years, and when I let it have its natural sparkles from 23 to 52! While I was henna'ing, it got much whiter, and lost any drabness I might have had earlier. Natural henna was a good choice for me for that period!

I cut it to me shoulders and let it grow down my back. I never put products on my hair except cocnut shampoo which makes my hair look more blond. I air dry it and the waves or sometimes curls happen. I don’t know what color your hair is but some herbs like cassia obovata in a hair pack ( mixed with water or whatever )will strengthen your hair. It binds to the hair and make it thicker and shinier. It wears off of course. If you’re platinum or gray it can leave it pale yellowish hair if your hair is darker then that then it wouldn’t change it. Just another tip.

I had super long hair ever since I was a little kid, it was always past my butt and everywhere I went people complimented on how pretty and healthy it looked. I cut it into a bob my senior year of high school, and shaved the sides in college lol. I spent my 20s experimenting with short styles and colors (mostly bleached blond). In my 30s when Covid hit and we were locked down I decided to grow it out again and be natural. 36 now with waist length pin straight hair my natural dark brown color, and I love it so much. I don’t ever see me cutting it short again. I kind of aspire to be my town’s fun old feral witchy hippie lady with knee length wiry gray hair when I “grow up” 😂. So, I'm 62 and - after stopping the damaging color processing - I have thick, wavy, shiny white hair. I keep it silvery with colored conditioner once a month. I find ideal a length with layers between chin and barely touching shoulder. I can put it up, if it's hot (FL) and down, if I want to look fancy. I blow dry it straight, but the bottom layers always curl up a bit, which gives it movement 😊

I'm 64. My hair is past the middle of my back and I still use ground and sifted henna (100% plant, nothing else) to color it. I've been using henna for 4 decades. I frequently have strangers compliment my hair. One young woman walked up to me recently and said to me "your hair is fire!". To be honest the ends need an inch or so trim and long layers could perhaps offer the illusion of a little more volume, but short? No way, no how.

I've had every hair color (naturally and unnaturally) throughout my life, and the worst reactions have always been when I cut it short. I was not blessed to be "pretty" but I've always had thick, lustrous hair - the best condition when I worked in - of all places - a tuna canning factory. The moist air/tuna oil combo se all marinated in during our shift meant I had gorgeous shiny hair at the end of the day when I took off my headscarf (albeit it stunk like tuna). I'm also Native American, and our hair is important to us culturally.

I keep my hair long, all one length. I keep the ends cut because of the thinning and split ends. I've had many hairstyles over the years. This is the one that looks best on me with my face shape., my attributes on my face, and my hair. My hair is naturally shiny, straight. The one length gives my hair movement. And substance. It hides the neck, the softening jawline, and other age related.issues. I get complimented on my hair fairly frequently. It's also easy to take care of. I am almost 70. Recently, a man I know told me that I. have the hair that other women want. So I think I'm doing something right. It's all. in what looks good on you.. But a lot of those short styles don't. really make a woman look younger because they expose the double chin, the soft and sagging jawline, wrinkles, and the neck. Some actresses in my age group with long hair include Barbra Streisand, Jane Seymour, Diane Keaton. Layers make my hair look thinner., not fuller.

I looove this post! I cut my hair pretty short after my entire life of a head full of bouncing curls. After my land lady didn't put salt in the water softener unbeknownst to me as a temporary resident of Wisconsin that never needed that as part of my household water. Talk about fried hair! 🔥
But I could also see that my hair was changing and it was time to curate a new curl pattern so that my curls would be big and bouncy instead of tight and bouncy, which showed the thinning ends.
I've had sooo many compliments after taking several inches off my hair. I'm in the process of growing it back in the new pattern to frame my face and pull my check bones up visually like the short hair has done. I just came across your channel and as a Marketer who talks Midlife, I am super grateful to have found you!
    Big love! 💙
Oh! And btw, Castor oil is amazing at conditioning the hair. The secret is to only put it in a few times a week all over the head. But I do use it to slick my sides back on my short hair, too. And it is said by many to regrow hair, so bonus!

Wow, you got the heat you anticipated, Justin! So many people are protective of their long hair identity. Relax, everyone. We all have different comfort levels, textures and styling challenges. If you love your long hair that’s great. It’s who you are. But I will say most women with long hair look better with layers and movement. I can’t wear my hair longer than collar bone length. Too long and it just drags my face down. I have a lot of fine hair that is wavy. A good layered or textured cut enhances the volume in a controllable way. Then again, I love change and my hair stylist always says she looks forward to seeing what idea I want to explore next. To me, it’s an artistic expression. Just like fashion. Do what makes you happy.😊

I’m 76 and kept my hair at bob length up until mid 60s. Hair just kept getting thinner (bald spots) and finer (hair diameter). I opted for the pixie cut my mom always insisted on when I was growing up. She was right. It suits my face. Maybe not yours. Keeping my hair short and layered makes it appear to have more volume and no one has thought I was undergoing chemo like they did when I was in my 30s. Truth is I never should’ve worn my hair long. It was too thin. Now my natural waves are curls and it’s perfect for Me.

I’m almost 75yrs old and for the past three years I’ve been growing my hair and loving it. After having a gastric sleeve resulting in rapid weight loss my hair started falling out so hairdresser suggested I shave it off which I did down to a number 2. I wore this for a few months until people thought I had cancer so started to let it grow just the tiniest bit and wore it spiked. This was not very flattering and I also had to actually wash it every morning to get it wet enough to style again as it was impossible to get it to sit down unless it was saturated, blow dried and styled. Then just before Covid I decided I was going to let it grow to whatever length I wanted regardless of what my other short haired friends said. I now have hair past my shoulders and surprisingly I’ve had many friends say it makes me look younger, softer and really suits me. I love that I only have to wash it once or maybe twice a week, can do it in different styles or if I’m in a hurry to get out the door I can put it up in a loose bun. I’d say to everyone don’t let society dictate what length your hair should be for your age. Do what suits you and wear it with pride and confidence.😊

Never know, you might change your mind after you get used to it. Maybe you need different styling products now to make it look it's best. But growing it back is fine, I think, at any age. It's always good to try something different. I learned I could go online and try on hairstyles with an uploaded photo. Did the same with my glasses. It kinda gave me an idea of what I would look like with different colors and styles. Could try some hair pieces and wigs and stuff too, which is easier with shorter hair. Not everyone has the time and money to fuss over all that, though. Not to mention, you donated your hair so that's a good deed. Even if you hate it now, it's a little sacrifice for whoever got your beautiful hair and it will grow back.

This guilt thing has to stop. People do not want human hair wigs anymore. Sythethic wigs are amazing, they self style, look better than human hair wigs, and are very inexpensive. They come in every color. Human hair wigs have every drawback with no advantage. You can't even get companies to assemble them. Complete foolishness designed to get women to cut their hair and look unattractive.

Hi Justin- I am 51 and I have waist length hair that has natural curl. I color and bleach highlight as well. For me the longer my hair is the easier it is to style. It takes about 10 minutes for me to dry and style. I only blow dry at the nape of my neck and the roots at the sides underneath the canopy. I never dry or curl the canopy of my hair except a few curls around my face...which is layered around my face to give it some flip. I think women over 50 CAN have waist long hair...they just need to work with their texture and find a style that works for them. Great video and your tips are really good too.

All you can see is hair and not her pretty eyes, good skin, nice smile. It also boxes her body in. On the few times she's had it cut to her shoulder blades, the transformation is Wow! Her hair moves, her face lifts and lights, you can actually see a body, and I've noticed that attraction to her goes up. She's been mentioning for a while now that she'd like to meet someone, so I do plan to have a chat about the hair. She deserves to be happy and we're at a new year -- new beginnings.

I absolutely love long, gray hair on ladies. They look awesomely hippie and give an artsy vibe.

I’m 41 and my hair changed from thick and straight to thin and curly. I didn’t even know that was possible, but I’m glad you validated that it requires more work to get the same result as we age.

Just cos you have short hair doesn't mean everyone else has to comply.
Freedom of being, freedom of thought, freedom to look however you want.
    I like my natural blanket.

I wore my hair long for the longest time because I thought my face would just look fatter with short hair. Now I tell people that I miss my long hair like a bad boyfriend...for what I thought it was, what I wanted it to be! 😂 And I am constantly stopped in public for people to say what great (short) hair I have. No one said a thing with it long. For me, it’s been so worth it!

almost 60 and have gotten more compliments then ever before on my long and grey white hair.. Strangers stop my at the store, on the street, to tell me they love the look, ask if I color it because it looks so good.. 😁😉

When I was in college in the 80s and lived in west Texas where the wind blew ALL the time, my roommate and I used Aquanet and called it Aquarock! We also used to spray it at the flying roaches in our dorm. It froze their wings and they'd drop to the floor so we could kill them. 😂😂😂.

Aquanet would also freeze spiders so they could be stomped.

Yup…good old west Texas wind. Along with the dirt sand blasting the face. I live in Lubbock and the dry wind does a number on my natural curly hair. 😬

No matter the length, hair requires maintenance and styling. The older I am, the more maintenance my hair needs. Color, condition, cut, but don’t leave it un maintained! A young woman can do that and still look great. At my age, I don’t let up on the maintenance.

For me, he’s definitely right about layers, and dry, thinning hair. When I was younger, I could rock short hair, but now in my mid-50s, I will never go that short again. It makes my face look tired, worn and…grumpy. But because I have curly hair, layers are definitely important, and the length that I keep it, just below my shoulder. The weight is perfect for me. I’m going naturally gray, and I like the way it all fits together. When I feel like it, I let it grow longer, but then, eventually, I cut it back up, just below my shoulders. I’ve always been one to change up the length over the years, whatever fit well at that moment, but layers for my dry and thinner hair are definitely important.

I have always looked younger with long hair and my husband loves it long. A few years ago, I went to have it trimmed.I told the stylist TWICE: "Just half an inch." She was in a bad mood that day and hacked off 6 inches. Thats it...For the last 8 or 9 years, I have cut and colored my own hair with much success. I absolutely hate the vibe of salons; they give me anxiety!
