I say women in their 20's, 30's, 40 's and onward can wear their hair any way they want. Ladies, let's stop telling our friends and family and social media contacts how they "should" do their hair if we haven't been asked. Purple hair? Permed? Natural? Big Afro? Green streaks? WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL.

I am almost 59 and two years ago I decided to let my hair go grey and long. My hairstylist almost had a fit. I got rid of her and did let it go grey and long, now I get strangers stopping me to tell me they love my hair and how it looks soooo good on me. Do what you want and don't let others run your life, you are in control!

I find hairdressers are always pushing to cut my hair shorter than I like. I always say I want to still be able to tie it back, especially in summer. They inevitably cut too much and then literally scrape it back so tight and say “look you can still tie it back” 🤔. I had cancer when I was 48 (now 57) and let me tell you nobody appreciates their hair more than someone who lost it at some point to chemo 🙏

Good on you. Who wrote these ridiculous rules anyway? In my twenties all I heard was, women should not wear skirts above the knee after 30, they should not have long hair when they were older, they should not like younger fashion and it went on. Well I am 52 now and I will wear what I want and have my hair in a way that "I" am happy with and wear the clothes that I feel happy in.

I'm 59 and have long/ colored hair - because I CAN!! I actually look horrible in short hair and my natural color is salt/ pepper. A few years ago, I had alopecia areata. Luckily, it came back on it's own after about 9 months, so I treasure my locks and will keep it long as long as I want! ❤️

I’m 63 this month and my Mother’s been telling I was too old for long hair since I was 25 ! My husband and kids love it, it’s in the best condition it’s ever been, so I think I’ll have long hair always. It’s far easier than short hair(which doesn’t really suit my features anyway). Also it’s so versatile- curls, ponytails, buns, plaits, straight. And anyway, my Great Granny had long hair, that was the norm back then.
Please yourself, I say. It’s always been my best attribute, so it’s staying !🙄

I am 58 and have just recently realized how much more I like my hair a bit longer. It frames my face better and is softer than the shorter cut I've worn for ages. However my hair is pin straight and fine so I spend about an hour every morning trying to get curl and volume into it. I'm having a hard time finding anyone in my area that still does perms. Did you go to your regular hair dresser or did you have to go on the search like me? I used to love perms and I know they are so much better than they used to be, I'd love to get one.

I think my long hair keeps me looking younger. I'm 64 and people think I'm in my 40s. My hair is the same length and texture as yours and I wash it once a week too. I think short hair is what ages most women. If you have good hair, and you like it, keep that way you want it.

Ladies.... just cut and colour how you want! I was wearing my hair to please everyone around me, then I realized I needed to be true to myself and went from long to a fauxhawk and dyed it bright pink. It was liberating and remember, when someone judges you, it says more about them than it does you. Be authentic to you and you will shine..

I too wore my hair long most of my life; never thought about cutting it shorter. I just felt that long blonde hair was who I had to be. Then at 60, on a whim I had my hair cut into a pixie and I love it! I never thought I'd look good with short hair; I was wrong. I've never felt more like myself. So l echo your words @Vixen LaRue "Be authentic and you will shine!" Long or short, gray or blonde!

I’ve always kept shoulder length hair because I felt it looked more professional for the office. I haven’t cut it other than trims since the COVID lockdown started. It’s now at my waist and I love, love it! Although every once in awhile I wonder if I should cut it now that I’m in my 50s which is how I landed on this video. Thanks to the video and all the fabulous comments, I’m keeping it long! Back in the 1990s, I saw an impossibly elegant lady in her 70s with gorgeous long silver hair pulled back in a classic bun. I still think of how beautiful and regal she looked.

💟 So yes, in total agreement with your tips on hair length, texture issues & age appropriate styles! As a mature woman over 65, I have grown my hair longer than ever before & love it. I have the similar coarse/frizzy hair texture & volume which is very similar to yours. I also feel that it is a pleasure to just pull it back & leave the house without fussing. I would go through such a long process with my hair when it was a shorter or mid length. People do not get it because they haven't lived it! It's refreshing to hear you speak the truth because I know first hand & totally agree! Trim the ends it's a must to keep hair healthy & looking fabulous! Thanks sweetie.....

I'm 70. Have worn my hair in a pixie for almost 30 years. Two years ago, I started growing it out and now it is just past my shoulders. I haven't died my hair since 2005 and it still looks blonde...go figure. My point is now that my hair is longer, all of my friends and family just love it! I have fine hair, with a wave next to my scalp. If I let it dry natural, it looks frizzy for half a day, then behaves itself. However I think it is much easier to handle if I blow dry it. My style will last a whole week. I feel so much more like my real self with it longer and am thinking of growing it to my bra strap and then decide if that length is what I want to keep.
    Live for yourself! not others!

I'm 52 and I'm not going to cut my hair short. I've always believed that, in general, short hair makes older people look old i.e.,Blanche from the Golden Girls was actually in her 50's; compare her looks with Jennifer López, 51 😲. Huge difference!

I've had short hair and like you, my curly-frizzy hair is SO much easier and more flattering longer. I recently went silver with dark blue on my ends, because I was stressing out trying to constantly cover greys. I LOVE it! I finally realized that it's ok to relax and have fun with the aging process. I can't say I achieve it every day, but I'm much more relaxed about it now. And I did realize that, as you teach about amending how we do makeup as we age, I had to amend how I work out and it's been a game changer. Thank you for your videos!

I refuse to bow to opinions on what I do or like, my hair is very similar to yours in that it poofs out after washing or in high humidity - it would be a disaster if I had short hair. I completely agree with you...do what you are comfortable with and what you love.

My "formula" is that when my hair was long, no one ever said anything. As soon as I get it cut short into a pixie, I get tons of compliments...from men and women! I have tried longer so many times, but as soon as I go short, people tell me they love it! I don't go short because of what people say. It's just a bonus to hear the positive comments. 😊It's sooo much easier and way less time to have a wash and go style. More time for adventure!! I have thick healthy hair, I have 3 adult daughters with long beautiful thick long hair. At 57, I’ve heard the comments that I should just simplied my hair style. I agree with you, it would take me longer to get my hair done. Besides I’ve cut it a couple of times throughout the years and was not happy. You’re adorable!!! Soooo….. I love long hair. Last winter, I got a lot cut off and had fun with some short styles. It was fun. But I missed my long hair. Several people told me that when you are older you should wear your hair shorter because if you are short (I’m 5’3” - 1m62), it gives you length. Blah blah blah. I missed my long hair. It’s growing again and YOUR hair is my inspiration! I bought the bringraj and Amla oil and I get it cut around the full moon. I got layers and bangs around my face a few months ago and I LOVE IT!!!! If I’m going to have wrinkles and age spots, (I won’t do Botox or fillers), I’m going to enjoy my hair!

I’m too old to pay attention to silly rules based on my age. I just turned 60 and I stopped coloring 7 years ago. I had no idea what my hair color actually was, which seemed a weird thing not to know about myself. It’s much less gray than I thought! It was mid-back but I chopped it to my chin to speed my color transition. I immediately began growing it out once my old color was gone (18 months). I just never felt like myself with short hair and I think that chin length bob aged me much more than long hair. I stopped heat styling it and learned how to work with my natural texture, and learned my hair isn’t straight like I always thought, it’s actually a bit wavy. I wondered what else about my hair I didn’t know. So now I’m on a journey to see how long it can grow. It’s past my waist now, longer than it’s ever been, and not layered except the tiniest bit around my face. I absolutely love it and have no intention of cutting it short - ever!

And like you, it is easier, it looks better on me than short hair. I’ve had people ask me when I will cut it, because I’m over 60. My hair is frizzy, thick, but when I blow dry straight and smooth it, it is silky smooth and looks luxurious. I will keep it, since I turned 60, I pay less attention to what others want, and more what I want.

I have thick curly hair cut into a shoulder-length shag and I LOVE IT. I'm 53 with a chubby face. But the haircut is so flattering. I can literally jump out of bed, finger-comb it, and forget it. I can add diamante clips for going out to dinner. I'm growing out the dye and enjoying going salt and pepper. A fringe skimming the eyes is very sexy indeed. I have to wear huge earrings though or they don't get noticed! But a shag cut for curly hair is just so cool on older women, and low-maintenance.

I was diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer in summer of 2020. I always used to say that I'd have long hair for life. I had very long hair and I loved it, but I lost it all during chemotherapy. It's interesting to watch videos like these when I didn't have a choice about what length my hair is. For any woman of any age who can choose how your hair looks, it is a great blessing for you to to have the choice to pick your hairstyle! I got many compliments with my pixie hair when it grew back, but I can't wait to have it at least shoulder length again! In the meantime, I have a ridiculous amount of layers in my straight, fine (but very shiny and healthy!) hair. It's how it looks when it grows back and I just need to be patient until those top layers get long enough for a shaggy bob. I'm so glad that shags and mullets are "in" right now since that is how it grows back! :)

Thank you for this video. I’m 65 and hopefully getting married late October with lockdown restrictions easing in NSW Australia. I normally have shoulder length hair but have been growing it out so I can wear a messy bun updo for the wedding. My hair is strawberry blonde, fine, but lots of it and frizzy unless tamed. I’m seriously contemplating leaving it long after the wedding as I love that the weight of the hair somewhat pulls out the frizz and that I have the options of pulling my hair up.

Men in general like long hair, and it helps you look younger than you are! I'm 52 and I look much younger then most! If you get to thin that can also age you!

A long time ago I had a hairdresser that told me once I was reached age 50 years old, I should cut it short. - I got rid of her. - I found a good, quality hairdresser that gives me a quality cut and color every single time. - She also listens to me, and let's me keep it long. - I'm still with her.

Thank you so much for this!
I was very tempted to wack my hair off. I've got very long dark brown hair, to my waist. It's naturally curly, so it's a lot of work. But I love my hair. I dye it, since I'm 57 and do NOT like the bits of grey. My dad is 83 and still dyes his!
My mom is 82 and had about two grey hairs!
    So not fair.
Thanks for reminding me to trim my ends!!
    You've got beautiful hair!
    Thanks

I have curly hair and it has been changing so much since I’m getting older. I recently cut it all off because I was so unhappy with the dye job, the current cut & the health of my hair. I felt I needed to “start all over again” I love the formulas you gave, those were so interesting. I really enjoy your content and genuine enthusiasm.

Great video . Spectacular comments. I will be 59 this month. When I was about 40 I wanted a pixie cut but had never had really short hair. I showed a photo of what I wanted to my Mom. Her reaction was priceless...she looked at me then the picture then at me & quite seriously said "But you'd have to be pretty to have short hair". Yep. Who knew ?! My hair is down to my knees now . Not only did I not get that pixie, I just stopped getting it cut. I trim it myself. It's healthy, it's many colours on its own from blond to brown to gray & sun streaked . I would cut it off to donate it if someone asked but, like your friend , it is part of who I am. Thank you SO much for your videos.

A Chinese friend of mine in Hong Kong leaves her hair grey. She wears it tied back and looks beautiful. She is always under pressure from her family and friends to change the style and dye it black, like the majority. Since she had breast cancer she thinks its safer not to use the dyes and also likes it longer. Women should feel empowered to decide how to have their own hair. My daughter is 47 and has long hair, and she's keeping it that way.

Hi! Brenda. I appreciate you telling your age, 71. It seems most women won't tell their real age past 65! Is that a shame to be 70 or older? I'm glad I'm 70!

Thank you for the hair tips. I'm 64 and have always had thin blond hair. For about 20 years I had a pixi cut but was envious of my friends who had long thick hair. I now have grown my hair to my shoulders and I've bought one of those new cordless curlers and my wave stays in for days. So glad I grew it. By the way, my family always said I needed to keep my hair short.

I’m so glad you initiated this topic Schellea! I’m 53 and love having my long hair past my waist. One thing that’s missing from this conversation is what hair products work well for long hair. My hair is fine and wavy and I color it. I found Color Extend by Redken shampoo and Mega Sleek by Matrix conditioner works best to keep my hair healthy and shiny and I take vitamins made for skin and hair by Reserveage for fast growth. Would love to hear what other women use on their long hair. Every woman should listen to her intuition regarding her hair and beauty routine. I love being a 50-something ultra feminine lady and I answer to nobody but myself! 💪

Look up apple cider vinegar for hair, plus caster oil for growth. I also take sea kelp. I've had massive shedding for a while, I was worried to brush it. It has slowed now thank goodness but my hair is down to my bottom, and wavy. It still looks OK although it does feel thinner. Im am on a quest to see how long it gets. I'm 63.

What a refreshing video 👍. I’m 65+ & always happier with Long Hair - but the hair conflict with my mother lasted from my early childhood to when she died. 😵‍💫. When I was 4 with long curly hair she had it cut short - I’m still mad about it! It’s easy to keep long hair, no cut for 3 years. I dry-trim it myself, wash & air-dry 1x a week, colors are great (blonde, grey, dark blonde), it’s pretty thick and tight waves. IT IS SO EASY. Ponytail or Bun or Braids no bangs - casual. I highly recommend growing your hair and pay most attention to its health. The less stuff you do to it the better condition it will be in - and be sure to eat healthy fats & protein & lots of clean water. Wash gently in cool good water, low suds, stay away from too many styling chemicals. Tame the frizzies with Argan oil drops in your palms. LESS IS MORE.

You are so right! I am 64 and love my long hair. I wear it up in the summer and my husband loves it. I had an friend who always said I should wear it shorter, because I was over 50. And for a while I listened to her, but was unhappy with my hair cut choices. So now I don’t listen to her anymore and do what makes “ ME”happy. Thank you for saying that it is only her opinion! And you are right.
