2 yrs ago I stopped dying my hair- its to my shoulders now, 100% silver and I have never loved my color as much as now. Its ok to be 64. I wear fun pinks and all different funky baggy jeans, scarves and hats. its wonderful to let go and be free to express yourself.
Good for you! I let my grey grow out at the beginning of the pandemic. It is now just past bra band length and I’m enjoying the length and freedom from dye too.
I love grey hair. I’m 56 and my grey is coming in excruciatingly slow. I’m not dyeing it because I’m proud of my 50yrs.
Grey hair is ugly, aging and witchy. Yuk
Could you do a video on grey hair? Grey hair transition, how to look good with grey hair.
A video about how to transition to grey would be fantastic.
Yeah she could mines nearly white 😆
Yes! Mine is white. Best styles for silver hair, please.
I agree!!!!!!
Yes! Definitely! I’m sick of coloring mine.
If you want to look youthful, don't let bitterness rule your life. It will do more for your face than concealer. The perpetual journey to looking youthful is like a dog chasing his tail. Those that look past you because your old will have their turn. Enjoy life.
Right on Carol!
I would listen to you talk about anything, your energy and approach are healing for me, you are just wonderful! 🥰 Oh, I have an idea for future videos - maybe you find some volunteer ladies, who you would style accordingly, with their kibbe type, and show before - after photos, or something like that 😄
She needs to do this!
It would be so nice if you could offer a service where a picture would be submitted and you would analyze and offer hair, makeup and outfit styles, color, etc. for a fee. I 100% would find this helpful and sign up!!
I'm in line for this, too. :)
Yes please! I've been watching your videos on body types but I cannot figure myself out. Each time I think I'm something different. A service like this would really help a lot.
Olala, am I the only one who just discover that you're a Rock n' roll singer ? It's amazing ! All these videos about styling and I miss such an important thing ! Please tell us more about it !
what a collection of photos! I laughed to tears. Thanks a lot!
There was also a popular hair style with completely white blond hair and perm going up from ears, one fashion blogger in our country called it "cauliflower hair" and that's exactly how it looked :D
😂😂😂
It’s interesting to hear about different hair/beauty traditions based on countries. I always love your take in your videos!
I just told myself to never go back to Bob haircut and Aly is telling me all the good stuff of a Bob 😅🙈
There’s a bob for every person. It has to do with bone structure and suitability of the shape.
A bob has always been one of the most chic hair styles and especially if a person dresses well and modern/non-dowdy. I’d only ever consider to trade mine for a pixie but probably not going to do that. Love Ali’s hair 😍😍😍
But a Bob needs more maintenance than longer hair 😅 At least with my hair
Hello, I started to let my grey silver hair grow out almost 5 years ago, my hair is long down to my mid back. I get more compliments than ever, best things I ever did.
You took me back to Yugoslavia in the 80. with some of those pictures hahahahah
I ❤ this! My mom was young in the 1950’s and my era was the 80’s. I wish we knew this back then.
What she's criticizing was the style back then.
I laughed when you described how to make small strands of bangs on curlier haired women so it won't "piss you off". Bangs have always "pissed me off"! I could never understand how women can stand hair anywhere near their face. I agree that older women (like me, I'm 69) should keep up to date in their hair styles. Our colouring fades as we age - your skin and hair - making deep strong colours (make up or hair dye) jarring. Love the photos your share Aly! Thank you for another really helpful and entertaining video.
I fried about 4" of my hair a couple of weeks ago. Could not live with that gray undertone and couldn't get to a stylist. So last night, there I went, chop, chop, chop. I wanted something a little funky... I got it, lol.
I understand why i hated my pixie cut more now.
I love grey hair on young/middle aged women.
So chic
Especially with those avant garde, minimalist hairstyles that Kibbe's dramatics especially pull off so well 🤌🏾💋
Agree with both of you. 👍
Yes! I have warm tones and love beautiful, natural, warm reds!
5:03 The hair on the right is BEAUTIFUL! Very adjustable and modern. Wave or curl or texture spray can be added for more movement. It’s actually what I’d consider a “bowl” cut.
I'm 24 but this is still informative af
I love your in-depth analysis of any subject you choose! You're always really spot on & your photo examples to illustrate your points are great. Rock on. 🤩
Excellent, as always, Aly. Very informative.
One of the best videos I’ve seen to this theme.
Thank you!
Really helpful.
Once again great and accurate observation!
idk the modern pixies remind me my school principals during the 00's, with Bordeaux colour 😅 loved your rock n roll picture
Have missed seeing your videos for awhile but am SO GLAD TO SEE YOU AGAIN! Have missed you!
Your perspective and analysis is the best! You are articulate, concise, and so good at explaining how to incorporate your information in to our life/style ❤
You are so perceptive about style stuff. Thx. for another fun, interesting, & useful video!
The most aging hair cut is hair loss, that's why I rock wigs
I’m African American and I’ve seen many African American women, rock bald or close cropped hair. A friend has alopecia and she wears wigs, scarves and her bald head, depending on the event, clothes and how she’s feeling. I know it’s gonna be a fun day or night when she’s bald because that’s her “Let’s party ladies” look. 😂
@@dimplesd8931i think she means when the hair is thinning and the person is trying to hold on to the last long strands of hair, instead of going bald or wearing wigs🤔
What you said about head shape and face is interesting. I've definitely inherited my "head" from the Slavic part of my family. High cheekbones don't look good when aged. Creates shadows under your eyes.
Noo, high cheekbones look pretty on mature women. I would kill for those.
High cheekbones prevent jowls from forming since your skin has something to drape over. No cheekbones is a flat face that melts downward.
So good, Aly! Thank you so much for your efforts 😁.
Always informative.
Thank you so much for the valuable info!
This was very interesting, Aly! Thank you! 😊
Can’t wait to watch!❤
I was ready to resent this video -- my hairstyle is a result of scalp-affecting situations that don't leave me many options -- but I appreciate the subtleties of the advice. And yeah, I'm taking notes in anticipation of my appointment next month.
So interesting! Thank you!
This is one of your best videos. Thank you!!!
This was so helpful ❤
I love your examples. A lot of work went into this. Great video.
Aly for the WIN! 🎉❤🎉❤🎉
This was fabulous, as always !
Pozdrawiam z Anglii. Dziękuję za kolejny pouczający odcinek.
Amazing descriptions and explanations for all the do’s and dont’s. Makes so much sense! I was a hairstylist and I can’t believe the bad colour choices we made. Raw lifted blonde hilights was one of them! Ew.
Always love your videos, so informative.😊
Another brilliant video 🫶🥰❣️❣️❣️thank you so much for all your observations and insights , so helpful ☺️..you always nail it! I am amazed how GOOD you are in all this!❤
Exzellent Video Aly, thanks a lot. 😊
i really loved this. thank you so much
Perfect video ❤❤❤
Imagine seeing your photo shown as one of the "don't do" 😭
😵 I always think that when I see the news showing "obese Americans" on the street without their knowledge
@@mcspankie2010 Anyone out in public is fair game. That's why I always try to look my best instead of like a slob. Everyone is out there making youtube videos!
@@user-wu1xs2fi8j TRUTH!!!! we should always look our best in public. Hard for me to wrap my mind around some of the "out fits" I see in public. If ur fat dimples can be seen thru ur leggings they're too damn tight, extra gross points for flesh colored leggings🙄
Great video ❤❤❤
Very interesting! Thankx
Perfect video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
thank you and this was interesting!
Thank you! Always a great video. I did the “BORDEAUX” thing off and on for a few years, and I thought it was so cool. I look back on pictures and realize how TERRIBLE it looked! Just awful!
I also rocked the burgundy/cherry/brown dance for a few years. Honestly, I liked the idea of looking like a dark cherry. I was delusional, I know, but I loved that hair colour! Lol
Im 34 and love that hair color, reminds me of the 90s 😊
I despise that color! I am
A colorist and I always try to convince women that it’s awful.
My entire neighborhood here in Bronx is living for the black cherry burgundy hair and I don't know why🥺
It was/is OK up to a certain age, I'm guessing that's different for everyone. However, that number often falls after about 35
As someone already said, the styles at around 5:03 are appealing. I was actually relieved to see those, since it pretty much looks like what I've been doing with my own. I'm near 70 and cut my own hair shorter these days but always want a bit more length with some curl and volume on the sides and top. What I usually do is old school roll it on top most nights, so easy to do, though the curl doesn't hold as well when summer comes. Oh, and no more bobs ever again for me, too much work on my fine hair, and one side always is more difficult to deal with. And I always have some bangs.
Same here, color cut my own hair ❤
My hair is an eggplant brown and it is absolutely stunning…….. I get so many compliments on it but I’m also pretty sassy, so it goes in my personality….lol
So glad you are addressing this. I have a fairly unique problem. My hair is too thick. I have to have some layers, especially since I live in a warm, humid climate. My hair is straight on top, wavy on the sides and curly on the ends. How in the heck do I work with it?
Flatiron?
I love your videos. I’m not quite 50 but I still found this really helpful.
I’d love to see more in-depth hairstyle and colour suggestions for over 40/50 - for example long versus short hair and light or dark.
Excellent!
Hello Great video. I prefer to leave my hair natural (curly) even if it's quite a care routine. Thank you for this video😍😍😍
You're so helpful. Love your videos! You kept saying that some styles look like wigs, as in, a bad look. Will you please do a video for those of us with hair loss/extremely thinning hair? Mine is most obvious in the crown and bang areas. I wear wigs now. Maybe a wig style video? Or, I would love to see other styling suggestions, if possible. Partially shaved/very short? Thank you!
Thank you dear👌

Oh cool! Thank you Jeff! Yes I was very busy that morning so couldn't participate in the chat... Miss our chat too so much ))
@@AlyArt Maybe you'll have another one someday? 👍😎
Multi-talentd Aly....
Aly I love your look today with the simple denim shirt. To me it's a very Kibbe Classic look. On your last video I thought that your latest hairstyle (hair pulled severely back) was too Classic and didn't suit you; but today the whole look, hair plus outfit, feels unified, and I have completely changed my mind. I think you carry the Classic energy very well!
Updating the decor in the room 😊 would be a good idea too!
Aly, please help ! My hair didn't turn gray but pure snowy white. It is quite striking. It is
thin so I sometimes wear wigs. I'm advised to get a wig with dark roots and the hair platinum so it will look natural. My natural roots are white/platinum. Why should I choose an unnatural feature to make me look natural? Pure white hair doesn't grow from dark brown roots! What to do? Thank you SO much for everything!!! You are one of the few people on RUclips that I find truly worth watching. Really, really observant and artistic. Oh. Im a very obvious SD. 5'11, very defined features..39-31-39. 135 lbs. Very light olive skin, dark gray eyes. Before white my hair was naturally dark bright red. A million thanks for you generosity in sharing your knowledge and talent. My best to you❤
I generally agree with the things you said about hair. But I think it's kinda unfair to compare "normal" women's candid pictures with to photoshopped or even AI pictures...
I agree, it also looks like they're from very different backgrounds. I'm sure it's not her intention and it's more about stock photo availability, but it looks like she's telling eastern Europeans to look more like upper middle class, thin Americans.
@@crisfer22 yes, very true. I don’t think it’s intentional tho. But unfortunately we‘re all affected by classism and wealth.
No, it is just your woke mentality
@@crisfer22 She just didn't have photos of average women with the desired haircuts. It's always easier to find pics of models to illustrate a point
@@user-wu1xs2fi8j I already mentioned that in my original comment.
This video was very cool I also found it very funny. Also I have the chair that you're sitting in in a teal color I love that chair with all the studs and it's very comfortable.
This was a great video. I have natural curly hair if you can call it curly. It’s more kinky and frizzy and full of air. I’m 60 years old. The women in my family have thin hair. You can see their scalp. You can see right through my hair. A few years ago, I started wearing human hair wigs. They are gorgeous. I wear them to my hairdresser, and she cuts and styles them in my head. These wigs are from Daniel Allan, by Follea. The quality is unprecedented. When she cuts my hair, she’s proudness and says, “no one will ever know. Haha No one will ever know.” She makes me feel good, but it’s true. Even our neighbor whose a hair dresser couldn’t tell. She thought I pulled my hair straight. 😂 my husband said what you said. Don’t bother with makeup, just put the wig in if you don’t have time for both. Thank goodness for wigs.
Great video. I’m a pixie and want to grow out this summer. I’m his is very helpful . I have that round head. I look awful in a hat lol. I always look to lift the crown but nom changing my mind about that.
You look so beautiful and natural here
Tidy is so important!
Im over 40 late forties and will always have long hair no matter who does or doesn't like it, its copper too with warm gold streaks its just what i like.😝
That was sooooo informative!!!
I see now why I hate my hair cut and color so much right now!!!
A frumpy, brown, ball 😫😫😫
I’ve screened shot sooo many pictures.
Thank you thank you!
Love your observations of the female form & face shapes on what shapes suits them 🙏🏻❤️🇬🇧xxxx
Thanks for this video! What are your recommendations when wearing glasses? I always find the front part of my hair gets a weird wave when wearing glasses, whether I have long hair or a bob 😕 Obviously I don't fancy having hair covering the glass, so the only option is to pin it back somehow?
Another great video! Will you please do one on wigs? ❤❤❤❤❤
I appreciate you and your expert guidance 🦋
What's the old saying, "You don't get older, you get blonder" Yup, recently happened to moi. Just soft highlights contrast with some deeper tones, nothing extreme. Everyone seems to love it! I tried the entire head blonde thing in my 20s, and this is nothing like that. This is more sophisticated, fashionable, youthful, and lovely. If you've got some grey just around your temples and front area, this stylish coloring looks fantastic.
Freaking loved this video! I am turning 40 and I feel like long hair makes my face sag, and I have a lot of hairloss anyway, so even though I always wanted long hair, it just won't work. BUt I need to be able to put it in a ponytail when I work out, so I have to have it at least bob length. The infos and advice is so useful in this video, love it!
Btw I have seen my mom's and my bf-s mom's hairstyle in this video, HAHA, gotta love Eastern Europe. :D Avantgarde hairstyles are such a thing for 50s women here HAHA although I say to each his own, it just needs a lot of maintenance. All the pics I feel like were made of women I know from back home, love it!
Thank u😭😭😭
Aly, you are the best ❤ greetings from Germany. 🌺🌞🌺
❤❤ Greetings from Germany ❤🇩🇪❤ Love your videos
Excellent. Send to my mum who is always interested in style, but doesn't always take the lead at the hairdresser's. 😊
I am so happy you made this video!! I am 50. I realized a few years ago that makeup was aging me so I stopped wearing it. BUT that isn't looking my best, in my opinion. When I was younger I loved classic French girl makeup but my lips are shrinking🙄 so red isn't my best, and my eyes are not the worst but the dark eyeliner I used to wear just makes me look hard. Normally I have longer-than-shoulder length hair and I was going for a lob but let's just say that didn't go well and my hair hasn't been this short since I was 6. I'm making the best of it, but honestly the only thing I can do is wait for it to grow.
Sorry for the long backstory, but this was supposed to be a thank you!😅After I watch this one I'm going to watch the makeup video mentioned here and I am so appreciative. I also love that although you're not mean, you don't tiptoe about human...ummm...uniqueness. Sparing my feelings doesn't get me out the door looking my best. You're wonderful, Aly.
You have to do something between no makeup and the strong makeup you wore when you were younger.
I NEVER wear makeup (aside from lipstick/ gloss) and isn’t it easier? I feel beautiful (most days lol). Confidence is attractive. But I guess it’s easy for to say because I’ve never really worn makeup (except when I was going out clubbing as a teen- my 20’s.) But now in my 40’s, it makes me look older. If I’m getting glammed up these days, I wear a tinted moisturizer. I think that’s SO COOL that you were born with such a unique hair color.! 💕Like Elizabeth Taylor with her violet eyes!
@@TrinaGallo Yeah, my confidence has been...sagging.😆It is much easier without daily makeup, and also easier to keep my skin nice as well. However when I stopped wearing it, I was thinking it didn't matter because it was me and my pup against the world! I felt like I needed no one else and didn't really care how others saw me.
I wouldn't call it letting myself go, as much as appreciating my dog's snuggles and sensitive nose. I'd also retired about the same time. It was so stress-free, not having to go through the never-ending routines just to leave the house every day. I wanted to wallow in that freedom for a little while. Which turned into years.
As it happens, Cooper -- my beautiful boy, the Dog of My Life -- passed last October.💔 I was no longer looking at myself through his eyes.💔 After I took that knife out of my heart I realized two things: First, I did need people after all. Second, it had been a long time since I actually paid any attention to my face. Etc.
Now, playing around with makeup is fun again, as well as doing my hair, etc. So as long as I feel it's something I enjoy I'll keep exploring but I'll definitely never go back to full face again. Seeing my skin as skin and not a mask (read: foundation) has had a major effect on me.
I'm not exactly sure what you meant by my unique hair color. I didn't think I mentioned it; my hair color is basically a mousey light ashe brown with a lot of gray. What does one do when they suffer a great loss? Change their hair of course. I bleached then dyed it a pink champagne blonde but just a touch of really warm pink. Definitely not natural but I think it suits me. Brings out the green in my (hazel) eyes. The extreme haicut was *not* a part of the plan. My mom's a retired hairdresser but let's just say she had a moment. She's 76; she's allowed to have a moment. My hair will grow back. In about a year. Maybe two.😥But absolutely Liz Taylor's eyes were so unique and beautiful!
I've chatted your ear off long enough, my apologies. You seem like a nice person and that's so refreshing I went a little overboard.
😊If we ever e-meet again I'll try to pull it back in a bit.💖
@@CleoHarperReturns First, my condolences for your loss. Cooper was like your child. So the makeup-free decision was at a really low point in your life. No work, no Cooper… 😢
But I’m glad you saw benefits to your skin, and the freedom. I’m glad you’re not going back to makeup on your skin. And if the eye makeup, etc. is having a positive effect, go for it! It looks pretty for people who do wear it in moderation.
👩🎤 Wow, that’s awesome!
By unique, I mean my original natural color was light auburn/ gold. Then started going gray, got highlights many times, but my virgin ??? is to my cheekbone, and the previously highlighted is from there to my waist. I get color glazes every 8-10 months but it’s semi permanent so no damage. But the virgin color is… unique! Sparkly white, blond, and some red/ gold.
@@TrinaGallo Thank you so much, Trina! I've had other dogs before but Cooper was just special. All dogs are special of course, but if you're a dog lover you know there's the one that reaches straight in and sniffs out your heart. Then of course wants to chew on it.🙄😆
I am definitely not sad about not working though. With the exception of my dog I like spending a lot of time alone, always have. I seem to need a lot of social recharging. There's always a project; that kind of stress is so much nicer than work stress. If I screw up my own stuff I can just do it over again.
I read somewhere that if you line your eyes with the same color as the rings around your iris (if you have rings) that it really makes your eyes stand out in a subtle way, so I tried it, cool gray. Wouldn't you know it that was just what I needed?? No hard line, just smudged on the top lids only (my eyes are droopy so I skip lining the bottoms). I do my lips now pretty much the same as you and use a cream blush. I'm thinking about contour (that 50 yo neck) but other than that I'm thinking less is definitely more at this age. We must have the same kind of wrinkles because you can't see mine unless I put makeup on them either. But don't worry, you don't have the same wrinkles as a 50 yo; my whole family looks 10 years younger. Wish we got that skinny gene.😆
I've always loved auburn hair, natural or otherwise. Aside from it being so pretty and catching light like no other, I think there's also a (good) attitude that comes with auburn. My mother (Edwina Scissorhands) says whenever I share a video with her the RUclipsr seems to have auburn hair, no matter the country she's from. It's not an attraction thing on my end but just something of notice.
I use semi-permanent as well. There's just something about being able to change your color whatever you want, whenever you want, and go back to default blonde. In my case, I was able to dye it temporarily back to brown to attend a funeral back home (distant distant family, met the poor woman twice). I have several older brothers and I just didn't want to hear about pink hair on a 50 yo woman. Nor any of the jokes that went with the critique, as brothers do. Went home and was lilac for a week. Easier than changing nail polish.
So a question about clear glazes (if you know): since they're semi-permanent, I assume they don't use developer, just like the dye? And also is it possible to have both on your hair, or does the glaze pull out the color? Or is it possible to mix them? When I do an oil leave-in, whenever I wash it out it takes the color with it. I could go for a more expensive color deposit but I like the even shorter lifespan of cheaper deposits for reasons mentioned.
Oh hell, I've done it again haven't I? It's got to be late wherever you are. I'll let you get some rest. Again it's been so nice chatting with you! This must be the most I've ever babbled on about makeup etc in my life.💄
Please Do vedio about styles/clothes make you look older!
Maybe you’ve already done a video about this, but I would be interested in what you have to say about different types of gray hair and the kind of cuts that would look good on buying but Corser strands. Always enjoy what your sharing so.
Itd be cool if you did a video/short on Hunter Schafer, her type is debated between Dramatic and Flamboyant Natural so it would be nice to hear your opinion.

You are absolutely correct ! I'm growing my hair out now....I had to cut it all off back in January 2024 due to allergic reaction to hair dye....I said enough is enough. It's not worth my health to dye my hair my original dark brown so I have transitioned to platinum blond and it's looking good....however, now am in the "grow out" stage and every morning I wake up to a "bowl head" just as you described, but I have a great hair gel I use to slick it down and back....making it look more elegant. Once I apply my make up in the morning and slick my hair back, I look half way decent...but wow...when I look at myself in the mirror when I first wake up I think....UGH....Great video. Thank you
Hi love your video I’m 58 I keep my hair shoulder length. I keep it healthy and looked after. I get a cut that tapers into my hair when it moves. I also have highlights and low lights it’s always looks great and I love the fact it makes me feel youthful and feminine and the versatility to wear it up or down. I find that lighter hair looks better fit me.
Really good. My naturally black hair began to look too hard, as I aged. I do go lighter now, and it makes less shadows on the face as well as might compliment my skin a bit better, esp now that I am older. I don’t do cool brown, as I am olive skinned. It looks better on me to have warmer highlights, but that may be just my preference!
To add, whats trendy in America, for example might not reach another country for years sometimes. Also, if most people around where you live and tend to have the same look, people have a tendency to mirror others. Others get locked into a look they had 20-30 yrs ago. What might have looked in style then, only looks out of style now. That's where the aging you can come in. Might help to go through magazines or photos of those woman you like of and pin them. You can start to define what you like about yourself and try out various new looks to see what suits the new you x amount if years later. Doesn't mean you're changing you whole aesthetic, you're just refining it.
I am loving your channel, Aly. If possible, would you please include Queen Mary of Denmark in your style assessments one day?
You’re so funny! I was all rock ‘n roll in the 80s (dressed like Joan Jett) but had my hair cut like Princess Diana’s. I’d never wear my hair like that now; you’re spot on about your hair being the biggest indicator of age (with raccoon eyes a strong second).
Thanks for this video! Some of the images that you have in this video ARE wigs on models. I think if someone wants to look better, they should try some wigs to see what really suits them and there face shape, and lifestyle. You should look into today's wigs. They are beautiful and can transform people's lives. You can not tell that it is a wig. People tend to keep the same hairstyle forever. That is what ages us! Color is a problem too. Wigs may be a way to see yourself differently without the haircut and color that you might not like.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't find the angled bob to be flattering on anyone when it's worn with straight hair. I have combination curly/straight hair and all hairstyles are unflattering on me unless I straighten it.
@alyart Alyona, you just saved me from making so many mistakes! 🙈 Do you offer consultations?
Can u do one like this for long hair or pass shoulders
