Great ideas for serving Pineapple! One of my favorite things to do is to use the 2nd tool to clean it out, then take a knife and cut the core out, leaving the shell. Fill it will canned beans (baked beans) and grill it in the pineapple shell. SO GOOD!! (It's a Midwest thing) lol

nice ways to cut,.....I also eat the core, very much because it is more concentrated in bromelain,.....also,..... immerse pineapple pieces in salt water, after some time the tingling sensation / tongue irritation does not exist,..... pineapple is queen of fruits,..... I love it,........

    Hi FixItSamo!
I am no friend of tons of specialised gadgets in the kitchen for all kinds of dishes. So I liked the two ways you showed to prepare with the knife. Especially the boat, that is really neat way to present a pineapple. I will definitely try that one.
However i was quite astonished how you presented the production of the the spiral pattern.
It came about because the prudent housewife used to try to use as much of the fruit as possible. So the spiral cut method was developed. It only cuts first the peel and then cuts out the seed cases of the pineapple following their beautiful natural spiral.pattern.
For this you you do not peel it down all the way past the seed cases.
When you have the outer peel layer off then you cut a wedge shaped trench along the seed cases following their spiral patterns. In my experience you get a lot more usable fruit and also the sweetness tends to be close to the peel, giving the fruit slices better taste.

Beautiful! I have the pineapple tool you showed, and I use it regularly. I eat fresh pineapple every day. No need to throw away the rind and the core - chop it up small, put it in a jar, cover with water sweetened with sugar, add some spices (cloves, cinnamon, ginger), cover with a cloth and leave in a warm place for a couple of days to ferment. A delicious light probiotic drink called Tepache. After making it, the rinds go in the compost for the garden.

I don't understand why people say that the core is not edible. 0:50 That's completely false. I've been growing pineapples for years and my family and I always eat that core... it's the crunchiest part of the pineapple, my favorite part. It is completely edible, just a bit harder than the rest, but very edible.

Makes a new pineapple. White pineapples are the closest i can get to god. Sooooooooo life changingly delicious.

You missed one very important point of the 4th method:
Cut the skin not so deep to leave the skin dots on.
Then cut away the dots by following the dot lines.
In this way you can have more fruit from between the ovaries.

The last example, I think you could have done it before you shaved all the eyes completely off. That way you can follow the eyes and remove them with the groves you cut. That's how my grandma from the Philippines does it.

The "follow the lines" scheme is off: the idea is to eliminate the deep-sitting 'eyes' of the shell. You already took them off, so now you are only wasting pineapple!
If you want to use this technique, do it on the unpeeled pine apple and take the peels off with that technique. Then you can see where to cut, since the "lines" are on the outside, and you take off the peels that way. Obvious, my dear Watson, isn't it?!

I think you are supposed to do the last way not only because of optics, but also in order to get rid of the small brown things spread all over the ananas. This way you can peel the ananas without wasting too much of fruit flesh.

The lines are not meant to be a "design" on the fruit. You are suppose to shave the skin off but leave enough skin on so the eyes or seed pods are still visible. The lines are to done because you need to remove all the seed pods but without wasting too much flesh.

    • @ItsFancyPancy
      @ItsFancyPancy 7 лет назад +1

The middle part is edible but pretty tough and therefore for many not desirable to eat. Also pineapples contain an enzym called bromelain which is what gives you the tingeling sensation in your mouth when consuming too much pineapple. This enzym is also more prominent in the stem/middle part. However the stem also contains a lot more nutrients. So no harm in eating the middle part aside from the added stinging sensation. Consuming too much pineapple might not be a good idea but hey that's the case for anything.. :-)

Can you explain, why you cut all those seeds and then do spiral cuts on it? Actually spiral cuts are not for the view - but to remove those seeds and save more flesh. You first cut a lot of flesh to get rid of seeds, then you cut even more just to make spiral cuts with no reason.

The last method of making designs on the pineapple is wrongly done and wasteful. You should remove the eyes of the pineapple diagonally after you sliced off the skin slightly.
