It’s interesting that there is a clear shift in Goku’s behavior once he finds out about his lineage. During the 4 year gap from the end of Dragonball to Z, it doesn’t seem like he really trained all that much and more so focused on spending time with his family. Then when Raditz shows up, he finds out who he is and it’s like immediately after that, he goes into battle crazed, non-stop training mode. Of course the stakes were higher in Z, so it was necessary for him to train constantly but the more he accepted his Saiyan heritage, the more it seemed to influence his character and bring out his instincts. Almost as if he had been fighting them and then relinquished himself to them once he realized it was simply his nature. Remember, he may have been raised on Earth but he isn’t human and his emotional spectrum and desires are much different from ours. He’s a Saiyan through and through, being raised on Earth just influenced his morality. This is similar to Vegeta’s development but the difference is Vegeta relinquished himself to his instincts for most of his life and his character began to shift once he realized his Saiyan Empire was gone for good and that he wasn’t the strongest of his kind. Of course Bulma and Trunks played a major part in this as well. Goku became more Saiyan like and Vegeta adapted a more Earthling like approach to life over time.
GT isn't part of the main timeline anymore, but your last sentence is the reason I wish Vegeta was the first to go SSJ4 and not Goku. Vegeta after fully becoming an Earthling, goes back to his roots one last time on the very planet he was born (or a version therof) ending the life of one being his father ruined the life of. It would be carthartic. Vegeta would have then accepted that he's a saiyan and now an Earthling too and would show how he outgrew his past, and even learnt from it, compared to Majin Vegeta who clung to it. We could even have Goku being possessed to get some nice callbacks to the very first Goku vs Vegeta fight. This time with Goku being stronger, until Vegeta catches up and Goku going for the kill, while Vegeta tries to save Goku and keep the Earth safe. Also Vegeta going SSJ4 could directly contrast to Goku going SSJ for the first time. One being born from rage and the other being born from calmness. Goku's transformation born from an emotion that contrasts with who he is and Vegeta's transformation doing the same thing.

Imo Goku is a hero just not a super hero. He'll help people who can't help themselves but he likes to live life how he wants to. He does things on his terms
I'm glad Six like took notice on many of our comments on the last Goku video to make a much more balance and overall better video. Yes, Goku's morality is foreign to the logic of other's mortality but that's what makes Goku well Goku. He learn from between a kid and young adult self that killing one's enemies shouldn't be the only path; sometimes showing compassion and hopefulness to have the next big challenge is more important. I would also add Goku also chose GOHAN AND TRUNKS, two kids, to protect the world and defeat Buu. Like they're still just kids, full of themselves more than when Gohan was a kid and he was calmer. And as Gotenks, much worse. It honestly goes full circle that Vegeta, the man he spared all those years ago, is the one to tell Goku to rely on the power of everyone in the form of the Spirit Bomb. Like Super has a lot of issues but other than some parts with Beerus, Hit and even Goku Black; Jiren is what Goku's morality would have led him (minus the need of having a successor) and I think Goku noticed it; seeing Jiren as himself or who he would have been if he continue fighting alone, growing strong for the sake of strength than the strength of improving one's self. I will look forward to that video!
People say Goku doesn't develop, even though he does but it's more subtle. I think Goku is a good complex character. Six's video and your comment help show that. I enjoyed how Jiren was a foil to Goku and it made me appreciate Jiren as a character and antagonist.

I can forgive him for dropping his guard when he beated Golden Frieza the first time (the beam part was dumb but intense, I get it) but not having the tag seal for the jar when Zamasu was Mafuba was... He loves fighting but he also loves giving others a second chance to be better than what they were. Look at Piccolo- In fact, look at every character he's met. Bulma learned and changed a lot to be a better person, Yamcha, Tien, Krillin most of all, Piccolo, Vegeta, even Beerus as a God of Destruction has shown a sense of compassion. That says much. One thing I would mention about Goku during the last tournament versus the time he fought with radditz is he became a father. I think that could have the biggest character change in terms of how one see his life and values it. Having children definitely will change how men think and their instincts aswell
One of the best examples of gokus morals is when he agrees to fight majin vegeta. As soon as he realises its kot babidi controlling him. He's up for it and gohan can't understand why. He's a sayian they love the fight and the challenge of it. We also see it with gohan and cell and goku cant understand why gohan is struggling and he doesnt want to hurt anyone. Goku isnt a bad guy but his morals are definitely not the typical good guy either.

Goku killing Yakon is like Liu Kang's fatalities from MK1 to MK3. Because Liu Kang is a monk and pacifist he doesn't directly kill his opponents so developers had to find ways where he wouldn't kill or didn't directly kill (you have the dragon kill, the arcade falls from nowhere, he disappears and you set on fire). That is what happens here with Yakon

I can’t remember if it’s the first or second tournament Goku is in as a kid but it was after one of his fights in the preliminary rounds (might be anime only, been a while) he is shocked at how he dropped the guy so fast and so hard that it damn near killed the guy without him even trying and that’s when he basically turns to Krillin and is like, yeah…I don’t think we should use full strength… By the time the Dragon Ball part ends and we move into the Dragon Ball Z parts of the story, the man isn’t wasting score of bodies! Goku doesn't have clear morals because they constantly change from wanting peace to all of a sudden activating Kakarot mode which means your destiny is to be slaughtered by Goku and torn limb from limb
Could another theory be that Raditz had a huge effect on Goku? Raditz kinda preached that Saiyans are all bloodthirsty and love murder and destruction, so Goku went against that with the mercy he started showing.
The thing is though is that there is no point for him to come back. It is way too late for him come back from a narrative stand point and a power scaling stand point. It would be no point for him to come back. Maybe if he came back a lot earlier it could work. But even then I doubt that would work as well.
IMO the Cell and Android story arc is the most incomplete and in desperate need of a rewrite. There's lots of cool things going on during Cell but it does not mesh well as it is. I would even say it would be the best arc if it were tweaked a bit here and there The funny thing is that Goku giving Cell a senzu bean is my favorite part in the whole arc. I even think it's a good idea on Goku's part. He knows Gohan is more powerful, so the senzu bean did nothing. Cell was going to get beaten regardless except now Gohan won't have that nagging feeling if it was "all him" (which is probably how Goku thought of it.) Goku is correct it's just that he lacked communication. A flaw for sure but it does not make Goku insane or evil

There are few things you need to understand about Goku and this isnt from DBS, this is from OGDB: 1. Goku is not a super hero, Goku is a martial cultivator (no, american comics dont have anything relatable but I guess the closest american thing to that would be Liu Kang from MK ). Google it if you need to. Main point is, he is not a world cop, his goal is to fight and get stronger, not bring justice to the universe. In fact, he wont do any justice really unless the literally stumbles into a bad situation. If injustice comes to him, he will settle it, otherwise he wont bother. "Z warriors" arent justice league, they arent patrolling the world looking for bad guys and Goku isnt superman. Gokus prime goal in life is to fight and in order to fight at his best he wants to be stronger. In OGDB he has clearly satted multiple times that he loves fighting more than anything else. 2. Goku was fine with murdering people to death BEFORE HE MET KAMI, yes, he was literally killing people. throwing bombs arround, sinking an underwater base, knocking out soldiers in the middle of winter, killing people at the red army HQ where the HQ had to evacuate as if a monster came in. Then to top it all of he pulled a mortal kimbat finisher on King Piccolo by literally ripping trough his guts. Kami taught him to spare people and Frieza on Namek didnt un-teach him that, he will always do that. 1. his goal isn't just to train. His goal is to do what gives his life purpose. In dragon ball, this came in the form of self-improvement or getting stronger. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a sense of morality and it's pretty obvious that he does considering the huge difference in how willing Goku was in killing people earlier to how much he hesitated in killing people during Z. True, Frieza didn't change that, but Frieza, and Raditz, did show Goku of the fact that some people cannot change and will just use your kindness against you. It put another facet into his now altruistic morality through determining whether someone was beyond redemption. Goku gave Moro a senzu bean. Not because he was too prideful because that isn't who Goku is. He isn't a man who is consumed by his pride and it's what separates him from Vegeta prior. Goku gave him the senzu bean because he legitimately wanted Moro to turn himself in. Sure, there was an assurance that either way he could beat him, but he wasn't doing it to flex on him. That just removes any and all nuance out of the situation. It doesn't exactly matter considering it's pretty blatantly stated by Goku himself that he not only has never kissed Chichi but that he doesn't even know what a kiss looks like. So it's likely a retcon or something. Idea works, but the execution is too exaggerated and illogical and goes against past information. Yeah, the "I am the hope of the universe" line doesn't even go in-line with the meaning behind Super Saiyan to begin with. Ultra Instinct is a return to the roots of martial arts but a lot of it just seems like Goku relearning old lessons which, in it of itself, puts into question of what the point of training is if he just forgets the basics and has to re-learn them (as shown in the new DB movie that came out)

In fact, he disgust the idea to have compassionship and believes his strength is right, that it's all that matters. And why their final bout has such an impact to him most of all.

One thing I would mention about Goku during the last tournament versus the time he fought with radditz is he became a father. I think that could have the biggest character change in terms of how one see his life and values it. Having children definitely will change how men think and their instincts aswell
One of the best examples of gokus morals is when he agrees to fight majin vegeta.
As soon as he realises its kot babidi controlling him. He's up for it and gohan can't understand why.
He's a sayian they love the fight and the challenge of it.
We also see it with gohan and cell and goku cant understand why gohan is struggling and he doesnt want to hurt anyone.

Goku killing Yakon is like Liu Kang's fatalities from MK1 to MK3. Because Liu Kang is a monk and pacifist he doesn't directly kill his opponents so developers had to find ways where he wouldn't kill or didn't directly kill (you have the dragon kill, the arcade falls from nowhere, he disappears and you set on fire). That is what happens here with Yakon

Dude! 2 minutes in and I am like THANK YOU!!!! I can’t count how many times I have pointed this out! I can’t remember if it’s the first or second tournament Goku is in as a kid but it was after one of his fights in the preliminary rounds (might be anime only, been a while) he is shocked at how he dropped the guy so fast and so hard that it damn near killed the guy without him even trying and that’s when he basically turns to Krillin and is like, yeah…I don’t think we should use full strength…

IMO the Cell and Android story arc is the most incomplete and in desperate need of a rewrite. There's lots of cool things going on during Cell but it does not mesh well as it is. I would even say it would be the best arc if it were tweaked a bit here and there
The funny thing is that Goku giving Cell a senzu bean is my favorite part in the whole arc. I even think it's a good idea on Goku's part. He knows Gohan is more powerful, so the senzu bean did nothing. Cell was going to get beaten regardless except now Gohan won't have that nagging feeling if it was "all him" (which is probably how Goku thought of it.) Goku is correct it's just that he lacked communication. A flaw for sure but it does not make Goku insane or evil

It seems you dont know Goku at all. Mister fan of DBZ dubs offbrand superman interpretation of Goku. There are few things you need to understand about Goku and this isnt from DBS, this is from OGDB:
1. Goku is not a super hero, Goku is a martial cultivator (no, american comics dont have anything relatable but I guess the closest american thing to that would be Liu Kang from MK ). Google it if you need to. Main point is, he is not a world cop, his goal is to fight and get stronger, not bring justice to the universe. In fact, he wont do any justice really unless the literally stumbles into a bad situation. If injustice comes to him, he will settle it, otherwise he wont bother. "Z warriors" arent justice league, they arent patrolling the world looking for bad guys and Goku isnt superman. Gokus prime goal in life is to fight and in order to fight at his best he wants to be stronger. In OGDB he has clearly satted multiple times that he loves fighting more than anything else.
2. Goku was fine with murdering people to death BEFORE HE MET KAMI, yes, he was literally killing people. throwing bombs arround, sinking an underwater base, knocking out soldiers in the middle of winter, killing people at the red army HQ where the HQ had to evacuate as if a monster came in. Then to top it all of he pulled a mortal kimbat finisher on King Piccolo by literally ripping trough his guts. Kami taught him to spare people and Frieza on Namek didnt un-teach him that, he will always do that. He would still try to spare people (Namek didnt retcon majunior saga, although I knwo you people treat Z like be all end all and I like how you referenced almost only Z during your statements)
3. Goku IS FLAWED. Goku is prideful and arrogant. Yes, yes, he is. Anyone who watched OGDB knows this. Goku is a show off who insults his opponents. He has the same traits Vegeta has, they are just slightly less apparent in Z. Yes, Goku gave Senzu to Moro. Ypu know why? Because he was proud. he took pride in his Ultra Instinct. he was like "Go, try to copy it, it will destroy you, I will beat you at full power because now you are nothing to me no matter how much energy you absorb".
4. people who think Goku doesnt know what kiss is are stupid. At teh end of majunior saga you have a scene of Chichi hugging Goku and Goku blushing (its the only scene in entire DB where he blushes). He said he didnt know a senzu bean could be fed to another like that. he didnt connect those actions to kissing. Whoever could dnt figure that out has less inteligence than they attribute to Goku. Goku didnt cause universes any risk, he in fact saved them as they would have just been destroyed otherwise.
5 "I am the hope of the universe" will forever be the most stupid line to have ever come out of Gokus mouth thanks to dubbers who completely disrepsect original material to the point where dub Goku isnt canon.
6. What was out of the character was in Cell games when Goku gave up. Thats the biggest character break I have ever seen in Goku.
7. Finally Goku has returned to his martial arts roots with UI. This is so nostalgic of the golden days of OGDB.
1. his goal isn't just to train. His goal is to do what gives his life purpose. In dragon ball, this came in the form of self-improvement or getting stronger. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a sense of morality and it's pretty obvious that he does considering the huge difference in how willing Goku was in killing people earlier to how much he hesitated in killing people during Z.
True, Frieza didn't change that, but Frieza, and Raditz, did show Goku of the fact that some people cannot change and will just use your kindness against you. It put another facet into his now altruistic morality through determining whether someone was beyond redemption.
Goku gave Moro a senzu bean. Not because he was too prideful because that isn't who Goku is. He isn't a man who is consumed by his pride and it's what separates him from Vegeta prior. Goku gave him the senzu bean because he legitimately wanted Moro to turn himself in. Sure, there was an assurance that either way he could beat him, but he wasn't doing it to flex on him. That just removes any and all nuance out of the situation.
It doesn't exactly matter considering it's pretty blatantly stated by Goku himself that he not only has never kissed Chichi but that he doesn't even know what a kiss looks like. So it's likely a retcon or something. Idea works, but the execution is too exaggerated and illogical and goes against past information.
Yeah, the "I am the hope of the universe" line doesn't even go in-line with the meaning behind Super Saiyan to begin with.
Ultra Instinct is a return to the roots of martial arts but a lot of it just seems like Goku relearning old lessons which, in it of itself, puts into question of what the point of training is if he just forgets the basics and has to re-learn them (as shown in the new DB movie that came out)
