I feel like the worst part about getting on a roller coaster is the anxiety of waiting in line and getting on the seat, because once u get on the seat you know there's no going back anymore and then when the rollercoaster is going up before the drop. I feel like after the drop it's all good tbh.

for me its always the stomach dropping that i didnt like, and tbh im still not a fan of it. however I do feel there are still rides that i can see myself getting on. just my last trip to cedar point after years of riding blue streak, disaster transport, corkscrew, and iron dragon because of my fear, i decided to step up to maverick, and to this day has been one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment. Cedar point is technically my "home" park as it resides closest to me so there is a lot of big rides to overcome however my next trip i may attempt either Raptor or Gatekeeper. The bigger the drop, the longer the gut dropping feeling and thats whats stopping me from riding huge rides

I avoid that feeling by going on only shoulder restraint coasters. When you start going down, press your body against the restraint and you won’t feel them anymore. To be honest though, I feel that having some amount of fear on a roller coaster is a good thing. Not like paralyzing fear, just a little bit of anxious fear. Once you get past that first drop or launch, that sense of relief you get is euphoric.

But recently, in a big leap of faith, I went on a bunch of big rollercoasters when visiting sea world and Busch gardens- mako, sheikra, etc. turns out, I outgrew the hatred of free falling and now I love it. The chances of dying in a rollercoaster are really slim, and the rollercoasters nowadays are extremely safe, so I've been able to convince myself that I'm safe and there is nothing to fear. Now, I can't wait to go on even bigger rollercoasters, like kingda ka and millennium force.

I actually really think Disneyland is a great place to get into coasters. It's a park that is far more likely to have non-coaster fans and it also has a good step up collection. Start with Gadget's Go Coaster, then move to Big Thunder Mountain (sit in the front.) Then ride Matterhorn Bobsleds and eventually Space Mountain. While most enthusiasts wouldn't necessarily call Space Mountain a "thrill coaster" it is a thrilling ride in its own way and it feels faster than it is because it is indoors and pulls some tight turns. Once you're comfortable with that you can go across to Incredicoaster. Once you're okay with that then you're probably going to be alright trying the more serious thrill coasters at Knotts and SFMM. That said, it's probably best not to go from Incredicoaster directly to trying back row X2 if you're still fairly new to coasters.

    • @MissMoontree
      @MissMoontree 3 года назад +5

Space Mountain is also good for starters. Just don't start with Tower of Terror and Rock n Rollercoaster.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 3 года назад +3

@@MissMoontree I wouldn't generally recommend Space Mountain to people who are new to rollercoasters or are nervous about them. It doesn't have a very high top speed or any inversions but it does have a few intense elements (though more so at the MK version than the Disneyland version.) But the bigger issue is that people who are new to coasters (especially little children) get nervous about coasters in the dark. And the queue line on both coasts can be intimidating. So I'd recommend Gadget's Go-Coaster at Disneyland or Barnstormer at MK as starters and then work up from there. Once Space Mountain is considered fun but not intimidating then you are ready to start climbing the thrill coaster ladder. For that you can either stick with Disney or Universal early on or you can make your way over to more thrill focused parks in general. In southern California that means Knotts or SFMM and in Florida it means SeaWorld, BGT or now even sticking with Universal.

I used to be scared of rollercoasters because they always looked bit and intimidating to me, I also was unsure if you were strapped in well. I got over this fear about 3-4 years ago. It all started with a coaster named Hydra (located at Dorney Park). My family wanted me to actually enjoy myself this time instead of being scared of all of the rides. They convinced me (after 20 minutes) to get on this coaster. I got on and was strapped in very well. After the coaster was over I realized how fun they actually were and how safe most of them are. All thanks to this coaster I ended up riding all of them there. I hit my wall when back in October, I heard that Vortex was closing at my home park (Kings Island). Up to that point, I was comfortable with family rides (Adventure express and racer) I told myself that this could be my chance to lessen my fear of rollercoasters as I enjoyed watching and studying coasters, but the fear was always there. I took a friend who is a coaster enthusiast with me to ride it. I spent all day worried about going upside down and going 150 ft in the air. At a point, I had to just say screw it as I had been so excited to ride it. Me and my friend went on it in the middle of the train and as I approached the first inversion, that's when the wall came (at least somewhat) down. We went through the layout, I got off, and wanted back on. We rode it 2 more times and I loved every second (except the inversion after the mid-course). I got it a total of 8 rides on Vortex and while it is rough, it will be a special coaster in my ranking as it was the one to get me to ride big coasters. Since then, I've ridden Beast, Top Gun, Flight of Fear at KI. This past Christmas, I made it a goal to ride every ride at Dollywood and I was able to do it (Wild Eagle was a hard one to get on though, that lift hill). For me, it's still hard to walk and ride and coaster but I just remember that I'm safe, I know what to expect, and to ignore the fear.

For the longest time, I was afraid of going upside down, and heights. For so many years, I chickened out on every coaster that was taller than Gemini, and went upside down. It was August of 2018, I was excited that a RMC has finally arrive to Cedar Point. So I convinced my family to go to Cedar Point in late August. When we arrived we were going to hit up Raptor first, and I almost chickened out of it, but after a little bit, I was told to go on it. I remembered that I closed my eyes on every inversion, and bracing for the Cobra Roll. When we came off, I was dizzy, but I loved it. After that, we hit Gatekeeper, that’s when I opened my eyes on the inversions. Then we went to Magnum, which is one of favorite roller coasters of all time. Soon we hit steel vengeance. On my ride, I got the very back row of the car, I held on the bars that first drop and closed my eyes on the first drop, I knew it was going to be my favorite coaster.

I used to be scared of them, not for safety or how it'll feel, but because of the anxiety and nervousness, it would build up and make me almost feel sick.
I used to not get on them at all, but recently I say I've conquered my 'fear' of them, I've been on both harry potter coasters, the mummy and my only big coaster so far, Velocicoaster, and I absolutely loved them all. I started out small with the mummy and escape from gringots, then moved up to hagrids and finally Velocicoaster. In every single one I felt the same way, anxious, nervous, just building up, making me feel awful.
I've even started making plans to go to Howl-O-Scream at busch gardens tampa with my friends with plans to get on every coaster!
Any tips for this? Because I absolutely loved every single one but that waiting and like sickly feel is awful.

I tell myself that the apprehension is actually part of the whole ride experience. Because it is--one of the things these coasters are designed to do is look scary and impressive from the ground. Somehow it helps to think that when I'm in line I am in some sense already on the ride, experiencing the first act. Might as well see the story through.
(From everything I've heard about Velocicoaster, it sounds like you started near the top--that's more intense than a lot of big coasters.)

I used to keep my eyes closed and I was simply miserable every time I rode a coaster and I used to wonder "when will this be over". Now, I'm wondering why it was so short. And that includes Space Mountain which is pretty much mostly dark.

My home park is Magic Springs, a pretty small and truthfully kinda lame park in Arkansas. There's 3 big coasters there. When I was 8 I begged my mom (who's terrified of coasters) to let me ride the park's big wooden roller coaster. She was like "no, you're probably not even tall enough", but my grandfather said he'd go with me. I barely made the height requirement and got on. According to my grandfather, I had the biggest goofy grin on my face when we pulled back into the station. That's the moment I became an enthusiast. 2 years later I dragged my sister onto the same ride (while she was literally shaking with fear) and she loved it so much we marathoned that coaster for an hour straight and we've been riding coasters together all over the country ever since.
Moral of the story? Just jump on. If you're like a lot of people, you'll come off only to go right back in line.

I want to go on joker and batman a few more times so i can go on medusa or superman.

In a funny way, my fear of roller coasters was avoided before I really knew I was riding a roller coaster. My first coaster ever, Whizzer at SFGA, got stuck in the middle of the lift hill. In a weird way, this made me fascinated with rollercoasters and made me want to ride them more. It’s funny how a bad experience can actually shape some of the things we love the most. I now enjoy learning, talking about and riding rollercoasters whenever and wherever I can, even though I’ve had multiple bad experiences. Each of them teach you something, and it’s important to learn your preferences so as to avoid bad coaster habits and make the experience better for yourself.

Last week I conquered my fear of rollercoasters and just wanted to say thank you for your help in doing this
I'm 41 and due to a bad experience as a young child I was terrifed just looking at big rides, not just coasters but all of them
Problem was my wife and kids love theme parks so we spend a lot of time at them, this was not that big an issue when the kids were little but now they're older they want to go on bigger rides
So I decided that I cannot just sit on the sidelines anymore feeling angry, upset and disappointed in myself anymore
So my wife and I planned a day out at Chessington without the kids, I know it's not the most "extreme" park when it comes to coasters but I figured it was the best starting point
To prepare for this I watched as many videos like this as I could find to get as much advice as possible
I worked out an order from the smaller rides I knew I was ok with and slowly worked my way up through those, getter bigger and bigger, until we came to the coasters
I instructed my wife to not keep asking me if I was ok because that could make me start to overthink things, as well as telling her that she couldn't let me back out of anything
I used deep breathing exercises to calm myself on the ascents/before the launch and made sure to scream on the drops, spins etc to get that tension out
By the end of the day I wasn't remotely scared, in fact I was laughing and cheering the whole time and absolutely loving it
We're now planning a day out at Thorpe Park to try the bigger coasters

I was afraid of coasters until I was about 13 as well, though I had been on some coasters before that, like Big Thunder Mountain, and my mom even got me to ride Kumba and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Now, the last coaster that intimidated me was Top Thrill Dragster. The anticipation is ALWAYS FAR worse than the experience. I had to force myself on quite a few coasters before I "got" that it generates a pleasurable experience. Once I got that knowledge into my bones, I wasn't afraid anymore. I've also been on a Slingshot, so I've gotten pretty far. The only rides I won't ride are those almost straight-down water slides. For some reason, I like negative G's on a coaster wherein I'm strapped in, but find negative G's on a water ride with no restraints unpleasurable.

My story of how I got over my fear of roller coasters and some of my personal advice
I was only ever scared of roller coasters because I didn’t like how they felt, falling from anything above how high you can jump is a natural fear afterall, and even on my first roller coaster which was Woodstock Express at Kings Island, it had that unpleasant feeling of falling.
I thought dang if that’s scary, imagine something bigger than that, and I didn’t ride anything else for awhile, it wasn’t until I got a little bit bigger that I was able to handle those forces without it being too intense for me.
Other than the forces you’d feel on a roller coaster, I was never really scared of anything else regarding them, like being up high, safety concerns, and going upside down. I always found it fascinating to be high up above the ground, safety I just used a bit of common sense that if it wasn’t safe, it wouldn’t be open, and going upside down to this day I can’t comprehend how that’s scary to anyone, yeah it’s unnatural, but like you could just hang from your bed right now to see what that feels like.
I conquered my general fear of coasters pretty early on I’d say, it took a bit longer for me to be able to confidently say I would ride any roller coaster in the world though, like when I was 13 and I got in line for Top Thrill Dragster, I was definitely nervous despite not having a problem with riding it.
Here’s my advice for how to deal with the feeling of riding a roller coaster: (if that’s what it is you’re scared of)
    1) Do not hang on for dear life, people aren’t just putting their hands up for the heck of it, they’ve all figured out long before me that putting your hands up makes it way less intense on the mind.
    2) Don’t close your eyes, even if you’re afraid of heights, seeing what’s coming lets you be mentally prepared for it, feeling those forces without seeing what’s happening can be pretty jarring!
    3) Lean into the drops, I mean literally lean forward when there’s a drop, you’ll find it lessens that falling feeling, the body can handle falling forwards better than falling straight down, that’s why you’d reflexively catch yourself if you fell forwards. So If you don’t like that stomach drop feeling, you should steer clear of drop towers, there’s nothing you can do to resist it on them!
    4) My most important advice and the hardest to apply, convince yourself the forces are fun, it takes a little bit of self brainwashing to love roller coasters, it’s almost like trying to convince yourself you enjoy black coffee, except we genuinely do come to love roller coasters and aren’t still lying to ourselves. 😒

As a ride operator if I saw anyone where showing signs of anxiety especially younger Riders who are riding their very first major coaster. I would kneel down to their level and talk to them I would say it's okay to be if scared and it's up to you I'm here to assure you that you'll be okay. So if you're ready give me a fist bump. Then right before they get back I have a whole station give them a big hand. And I asked them so what you think. Most the time I get the biggest smiles on their faces but a few times I get those who don't enjoy the experience and I tell them at least you tried it good job.

I love it when I see/hear ride operators interacting with the guests. Great work!

what helped me conquer rollercoaster fear was something my friend told me! my main fear about them was the whole "what if something malfunctions and i fly outta this thing" but she told me to squirm around and try to stand up once your fastened in your seat. if you cant get out, you won't go flying. we proceeded to go on most intense rides at canada's wonderland together and it was a BLAST i absolutely love rollercoasters now. just saw everyone in the comments talking about their fear conquering stories!

Just let go. I never rode a roller coaster before and I went to kings island for the first time. I was so nervous and afraid. I still kind of am but I loved the thrill. The feeling of having your soul left behind for a split second. I wanted to cry after my last ride on Orion. I saw the sunset and it was beautiful. I felt like I was slowly but surely living my life out. Very emotional. I loved it. And remember my friends: fear is temporary, regret is forever.

If you're scared of loops, going upside down etc. DONT be you don't even feel it the pressure pushes of the winds pushes you down so it won't feel like anything and most of the time you won't feel it it doesn't feel different or anything it's just being upside down is what probably intimidates u but don't let it

Honestly my advice is to just do it. You need to just hop on and just do it. Aslong as you know you're safe, do it. Also, something that gets me kind of scared is seeing the track shake and sway. I know this is safe, but it still gets me a little bit
