  • I used my Black Widow well over 30 times in the 6 months i've had it. With proper cleaning this thing still has what it takes to pull off a great paint job.

Being a complete novice I took on a Harley respray project and intend to use the black widow as my clear coat gun. I may have bit off more than I can chew since he also wants some custom airbrush work as well. RUclips is the best place on the inter-webs to learn from. That Bermuda Blue IS a cool color! It normally looks like a nice aquamarine teal to blue, a bit purplish at certain angles in dimmer light, and almost black from a distance in very dim light. I think GM dropped it in '07 and I don't know why. They always comment on it when going through the car wash and even my GM loathing brother likes the color on my '06 Avalanche. The difference in hue between the hood and fender that you were concerned with actually will show up less in bright sun. As the sun reflects off all the metallic/pearl it hides those inconsistencies, they'll show up more in shade.

      Spraying above 30lbs like I was at does put a lot into the air, that's where this thing likes to stay 25 - 35 lbs.
      20 oz of Chomax base coat (thinned) put 3 coats on this and I was right on the money when I ordered the paint.
      Clear coat was the 2 coats and in my 3m cup I just go to 8 on the 4:1 for each coat.

    I notice most people really get insulting if you use 1k materials instead of the latest/greatest. Lakeside Auto body channel shows using acrylic lacquer primer, single stage, all the things the experts say won't work, will fail, is outdated, ect. These materials used to be the standard, and for us guys doing our cars at home, with proper prep, i feel you can get good results on a budget.
    Nice look at the Widow in action.👍

The temperature inside my garage is good 80f, is it the guns that I have or maybe i have to adjust the guns? I put the air pressure to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50psi and bubble keep coming up 😮

  • @subrosameda1
    @subrosameda1 4 года назад +4

    Just picked this up today, gonna be spraying my car for the first time. At 35psi for the clear are you running fan and fluid wide open? Watched a few other reviews of the Black Widow and everyone seems to have consensus of spraying clear at 35psi fan and fluid wide open, so just curious what gun settings you were running. Thanks m8 and awesome videos.

    • @KarKraftsman
      @KarKraftsman  4 года назад +3

      35 is a bit high i think. If you get light in the middle of the fan you have too much pressure. I like to set my trigger pull just about at the end and you can tune it to a speed you want to move. I also adjust my fan size for what I'm painting, if its just a bumper I go smaller to maximize transfer efficiency, body panels ill go all the way. Good luck

    I'm getting ready to spray a 1972 442 and haven't painted in a couple decades. I'm going to paint Duracryl Viking Blue metallic lacquer and final coats of Duracryl High Performance lacquer. I wonder how lacquer will spray with either a HTLV or HTE spray gun. Anyone with experience.

    How are you spraying air without paint coming out? Are you turning the fluid control all the way down?

    • @KarKraftsman
      @KarKraftsman  4 года назад

      Not to be rude but how do you not know how? The first part of the trigger pull is only air, you don't have to pull the trigger all the way in. When the needle is pulled is when the paint comes out.

      @aaron anderson maybe if you were intelligent enough to apply some basic deductive logic here you'd understand the concern of the channel owner. Mentioning fluid control in his question makes one think he's handled a gun before which would make his question incredulous. Had he not mentioned that then I'm sure the response would be different based on reading many of this guy's responses. He's not an ass hat like those who try to throw him under the bus for "begging"... Little keyboard warrior that they like to be....
