I wish I were as tall as you are (4’11”). What’s hard is I try to avoid fast fashion, but quality fashion brands don’t do petites - especially super petites like me!
When I needed corporate wear (suit pieces), I could find things in petites from Talbots and decent department stores. (Also, this is 15 years ago when people actually wore suit pieces to work.) But now, for my casual life? Nope. Not unless I want to dress like I'm 85 (and no offense intended to all the fabulous 85 year olds out there)!
As a “tall girl” I feel you, since so little are done for any of the other proportions that is flattering… proportions for petites is not the same for tall girls, and none of them necessarily are right for larger girls… and even for the model-sizes… My daughter is 180 and ballet thin… for many she have a model silouette, but try to find long, slim clothes that is long enough… sometimes I wish I was “average size”… but not long enough to remove my joy of being tall…
I never gave up my knee-high boots in those 20 years when ankle boots only dominated style, because I love them with the skirts and dresses I wear a lot. I love ankle boots, too, but with trousers. I think I’m just too old to adjust to sneakers with my skirts and dresses! I feel short and frumpy in that combo. I always feel better in a two-inch or so block heel. Age 63.
at 5'2" I get smothered in turtlenecks and heavy coats - so I need v-necks & skirts to bring some length. I also love boho 60's styles with chunky boots, long flowy dresses and cropped jackets. I cant wear all the baggy oversized sweat pants/tops so I guess I will stick to my hippie clothes!
Totally agree on ankle boots! Never felt it was a good look with the gap in between the skirt or dress and the boot. Just not at all flattering. You nailed everything in this video!
I like these types of videos, it’s good to keep things updated. The overall trend right now is toward simpler, better-quality pieces, I love that. Last year I could hardly find anything that didn’t have puffed sleeves, ruffles or tiers, not for me. I like feminine, but tailored, not frou-frou clothes. Restraint is back in style at last, it’s more elegant.
I loved the turtleneck idea. I’m sitting here watching this video wearing a chunky knit dark brown turtleneck. I have been adding browns & taupes since last year. I realized that I had no brown boots or coats, so I’ve upgraded my boot & coat collection, too. Brown is now as big of a staple in my closet as black is. I am glad to know I’m on trend :) Thanks for the video, Anna. 😊
My takeaway from this video: my style and wardrobe is completely outdated, but I dont care lol, I preferred almost all the "outdated" looks over the "modern" alternative
Agree. Some "dated" yet structured, slightly frumpy looks (but not too frumpy as if she doesn't care anymore) often make me feel the woman wearing it is trustworthy and dependable, while on the other hand, "modern" looks, especially those with big attitudes, or revealing cut outs, make me instantly feel I can't trust this woman with any responsibility.
I’ve noticed on several occasions that when fashion influencers come out with lists of what is out of style and this is repeated broadly, that the next season the fashion industry starts promoting that very style. So for example, platform shoes, leggings and the dreaded three quarter length pants.
Delighted to see tall boots shown. At the beginning of the season it seemed like they were a "no". I love them (plus they are nice and warm for winter).
I love to wear navy instead of black … as a fair skinned blonde woman I feel black is too harsh but navy (like brown) is more soft for me! Love your videos 🎉
Great tips! Love all the ideas. At 5’2 and petite all around I avoid very oversized things. I agree brown look good on someone with your coloring as black may be too harsh. I do like camels and a bit of tan Accessories but as a true winter with dark brown hair and eyes and light olive skin black looks great next to my face. Never too harsh or overpowering. Charcoal as well. Warm colors or browns with a warm undertone are saved for the bottoms or accessories. Make me look dead if near the face. All this is so dependent on what each person looks like.
Love this type of video. I think our eyes get tired of seeing something and then we are able to see what’s wrong with it. the opposite also happens, something looks fresh bc it’s new and we want it, without thinking if it’s a good look. I think the tips you gave was on point, without being bias to current trends. I love that you show your personality with what you say out of left field, ha.
I have to three summer maxi dresses that are race back style. Instead of purchasing new long sleeve maxi dresses, I style them in fall/winter with a long sleeve shirt underneath.
Another thing for variety is to wear a shirtdress as a jacket. It is lighter weight, has interest, can have pockets to give an interesting look. The belt can be tied in back to show more of the color in front you're wearing.
I love brown too. I have some good black pieces I'm not ready to part with though, so for me, brown and black together can work. Thanks for the good info.
Great advice on the bags. I've been wearing only structured handbags for the last few years. It looks "cleaner" to add those strait, crisp lines to an outfit. Plus, the bag will look pretty sitting on the floor or wherever you sit it. It won't fall over! Love all your videos!❤
Dooney & Bourke has beautiful structured handbags in every size! They have feet that keep the bottom of the bag from touching the floor, and most of the satchel styles come with a detachable shoulder strap/ cross body strap. D&B has different price points depending on which kind of leather the bag is made from. They are all so well made, and last for years of wear. I don't know if D&B ships to other countries. They are based in the US.
I know you're not a fan of 3/4 length sleeves but women with narrow, sloping shoulders benefit from this sleeve length. If you have nice broad shoulders like most models you may not experienced it first hand. Even Christopher Hopkins says the idea is to visually broaden with styles that draw the eye Out with wide collars, boat necks and 3/4 sleeves . Also , Longer sleeves draw attention to where they land, which can look odd with a short waist & trying to disguise a tummy!
the sleeve to the elbow also might be cooler in warm weather, or alternate weather where one can wear a cardigan over it. To me this is a classic sleeve length that will never be out of "style." Maybe not the "trend", but I enjoy my dresses with this sleeve length. I have loved chocolate brown for many years, a few years ago, maybe 3-4 yrs I looked everywhere for brown, and Red. but they were NOT the trend! I wish I had the energy to sew again, but even them , one can't find certain colors in the "current" fabrics, at the time red and brown, I Looked. Beware of what is Not in, and wear what YOU feel beautiful and comfortable ib.
NO, NO, NO on those crazy long sleeves! I love 3/4 length, gives my arms some warmth and they never get wet when I wash my hands, not just generally bug me.
06:14 I've done that with my medium to lightweight turtlenecks and it works a treat ! I get better neck coverage when it's freezing cold and it looks great too 👌👍
I don’t have knee-high boots right now (or the budget for them ;) but I’ll wear black tights with my black above-ankle boots & a midi dress for a similar more streamlined look 😊
Excellent video. We don't have to rid ourselves of everything. We just need to rethink some of our clothes. Like a blazer in place of cardigan. But we probably need to move on from some other things like fussy prints. I'm pretty sure I won't buy any floral prints again. I have a couple that won't date and that's enough.
I want some nice trousers. In darker colors for the winter. And some cashmere sweater to go with them. Or a new pant suit. I haven’t bought one of those in years. I used to buy one every winter. So I will buy myself one this year. 😊
I actually like the ankle boot but paired with a structured heavy skirt, like A line leather skirt or dress. With a long straight fit dress I agree on the knee boots.
I agree with you about the short and the long dress do look elegent. I yet to try one on but i think i would look like i was being swollen, lol. I am a short 5 ft. Thanks for your tips
I just bought a beautiful below knee wool pencil skirt in navy and can’t wait to pair it with knee high brown suede heeled boots 🎉 Never liked the midi/ankle boot thing 🤔 I’m also loving below knee turtleneck sweater dresses right now
good points today Anna .. I too, am swerving black and going chocolate brown and loving the look - I think it's a little softer and I love pairing it with warm tones of taupe eye makeup. Always enjoy your take on things, even though you live in a totally different world to me here in East Anglia in England! Thank you for continuing to give us insightful thoughts on fashion!
Right on time, I don't know what to wear today. I was thinking about a leopard knit dress then I noticed it's 54 degrees in l.a so then I thought of a mustard yellow hoodie and leopard flair leg stretch pants and western boots then I changed my mind and sat down to watch your video 😅 Ok I think I'll do wide leg jeans and cropped sweater instead of hoodie and stretch pants .Thank you 😊
Love the soft ivory & gold you have going on in this video. Your makeup & hair also perfect blend all together. I'm loving your look 😍 I have kinda been retiring my black too and enjoying my brown's as well. I enjoy your content. I'm going to play in my closet now😂❤
Anna, I LOVE that versatile handbag and think that one very well may be in my future! Very unique but classic and classy! I agree that your options overall are much improved over the X options. The combo of mixed patterns with lace and other embellished fabric look to me like the manufacturer was trying to use scraps and hoped we would buy them because it was "trendy." Another winning video! XXOO ❤️
I got a couple of red items this fall, and I love them with brown. Black is too harsh and predictable with red and navy is too corporate, this combo was done to death during my career years, but browns with red feel a bit softer and just right. I never thought that “black goes with everything”, it just kills any color it’s adjacent to.
Agreed! I’ve been wearing red and dark brown all Fall and love it! I’ve started to use my chocolate brown as my “go-to” and have paired it with so many colors. It looks great with pink, too!
Same for me! You are making me think outside the box! I agree with the black! I'm digging gray a lot more! Spanx has a killer fray turtleneck I'm tracking down
Seeing tons of advice (like yours) to switch from cardigans to blazers. Problem is - blazers are not warm, cardigans are. I've looked for sweater or knit type blazers, but they look cheap or lose their shape.

What about wool or wool blend blazers? Have you tried them?
Love your logic, sense of humor and advice. Could be because I usually agree with your ideas. Love the grey blazer. Yes, black can seem harsh and corporate. Imho.
Brown has always been my best neutral and I feel it’s always had rich colors. I just think it’s finally in. Per the cardigan, if you live in cold country as I do, sacrificing the style for a fluffy fleece or Sherpa cardigan is the bomb. When I was in Phoenix, this wasn’t necessary.
I loved this video = and will look into some of those options in petite sizes……. I am 4’11”. 115 lbs…..and the blazers you mentioned are just too over powering for us shorties
Dear Ms Anna, Your videos about switching a few pieces (that may have aged a little) or as you said that " we do not feel them anymore " with some options /ideas that you give us are...sublime! So helpful! So well-thought! As Christmas approaching and money being scarce for many; chapeau! Wonderful! Thank you!!! helene :)
When searching for an alternative to black, which can drain the look of one’s complexion, I find grey and silver alternates look better with silver jewelry. Wearing gold with it makes the outfit look off or like I’m trying too hard for a glam look. (I know a lot of people feel gold goes with everything, but for me, I just don’t.) Also, I find I don’t look that great in brown. (I have silver hair.) Taupe works better for me, but then I’m getting too much of a “beige/neutral vibe, not the less harsh “black” vibe substitute I was going for. For me, the best substitute for black has always been navy. Navy does everything positive the black look does (slimming, less harsh, doesn’t suck the color out of my skin, looks softer, looks good on everyone…there are different shades of navy, everyone has a best shade…and finally like black, looks good with either silver or gold jewelry. Just my thoughts, and I am at the stage of life where I consider trends, but ultimately wear what I like. By the way, I love your channel and I admit to being totally jealous of your long legs. But hey, one has to work with the gifts of life one is given and my spouse, my children and I are still kickin’ and while we are not gloriously wealthy, we have all our needs met, so life is good. Wish you and yours the best holiday season.
If you have ankle boots, just wear thicker tights/ leggings in the same color as the boots, with dresses and skirts. Gotta wear those leggings anyways under skirts in the winter, in cold climate. Problem solved, no need to buy new high boots. I think some prints are totally classic, like leopard (and maybe snakeskin, but I don't like that lol). Depends on the color of the pattern, though.
Love the chocolate brown ideas!!! That dress w the cutouts is phenomenal 😍 👏 the cardigan skinny jeans was the worst on me. I looked so frumpy and didnt know why?! Now that i have found my personal style. I know better for myself.
I've always hated the ankle/mid-calf boot, especially with a skirt/dress where the hem line is above the shoe. Not flattering. Can't even believe this was a thing. I can't even believe you're the first to even mention it. Finally!
I love all the light neutrals you wear, but how do you not get stains? I feel like my lighter clothes get spots/stains within a few wears. Whether it's makeup, food- whatever. I’m a mess...
Hi Anna, another great video 😃and I totally agree with you about the ankle boots with midi skirts, I just never got that one, I thought it was just me (and my big feet! UK size 7 US size 9ish)! I much prefer ankle boots with trousers/ jeans and I wear this look a lot. Last year my hubby got me a chestnut brown leather parker style coat, initially I wasn't sure how to wear it but this year watching your channel has given me loads of inspiration! I have some ankle boots in a similar colour and have been wearing both with jeans, grey, black, cream, blue trousers etc (love my trousers/ jeans) and I'm so pleased that straight/ bootcut legs are back as I had difficulty getting the longer length jeans (I'm a 32 inch inside leg) and leggings were impossible to find! Thank you🤗! Caroline
hmmm...brown with burgundy. Just the right answer; lately I've got some burgundy tops and bottoms and just did not like it with other colors...brown OK will do, thanks:)))+
I have been feeling the same way about black, it was a staple in my wardrobe, black leggings, black pants, black tank etc, but in the last few years really, I've been moving away from black and using sifter dark cold like browns and blues, even faded black or charcoal works too, black just lacks texture or light variation so it just seems muted and plain
Dear Anna, most of my outfits consist of midi skirts and I only have ankle boots. Right now I can't afford long boots, do you have any suggestion for me to not look dated?
In the 1930s - 40s the ankle boot was taller on the calf and skimmed the top of the ankle bones. THAT looked fantastic in winter. Very feminine in bad weather when women wore only skirts.
I am really loving your videos. I love your style and your really great suggestions. I am trying to giure out my style. I have way too many clothes bu=ut never anything to wear. I rarely feel put together and always rushed . I would love to have you as my stylist. Not only would it be very helpful but also lots of fun 🙂 I love those high waist brown leather pants you had on in a couple videos. They look terrific on you! Do you know if they are still available. Help me please xoxo
I had to learn how to sew and alter clothes. I am 5'1 and 125 but muscular because I am still active. I have to find pants to fit over my thighs butvit gaps in the waist. Turtlenecks dontbwork because they are too tight in the shoulder. If I get one bigger, then I frumpy and swallowed up. The skinny jean was amazing for my body type but I am no longer liking the look. I am shortening my daughters wide leg jeans today. I cut 5 inches off her pants and shorten her shirts.
The shorter dresses with 1/2 or 3/4 lenth sleeves is actually not bad in any of these photos. For myself I would look better in those than the longer versions. I guess your body type has as much to do with it as your personal taste.
I've noticed that you sometimes mix metal tones. I have a black purse with a silver chain strap.. is it a faux paus for me to wear this with a black belt/gold buckle? Or with gold jewelry?

Ankle boots look good with midi skirts as long as you are wearing matching tights
As a 5'3" (115# ) gal, most "trends" do not work because clothing is not made proportioned for petites. Love the bag! Scaled for petites!
Such a struggle!
I hear that all the time I know thta's a struggle! There are some petite RUclipsrs out there that have great tips!
I wish I were as tall as you are (4’11”). What’s hard is I try to avoid fast fashion, but quality fashion brands don’t do petites - especially super petites like me!

Glad you liked it, Ann! ❤️❤️❤️

Amen! The frou frou is trendy, not classic and looks good on so few. Simple, versatile chic is always in.
Yes! I love that timeless is “in” even tho it’s never really “out” 😄
I loved the turtleneck idea. I’m sitting here watching this video wearing a chunky knit dark brown turtleneck. I have been adding browns & taupes since last year. I'm not feeling black at all this season, I'm more charcoal or chocolate. Glad it's not only me!
I ❤ that brown dress with the cutouts. Really fantastic 🎉

Hi Anna!
Can you please link the loose green maxi dress?
Came here to ask the same! Love it💚
I want some nice trousers. In darker colors for the winter. And some cashmere sweater to go with them. Or a new pant suit. I haven’t bought one of those in years. I used to buy one every winter. So I will buy myself one this year. 😊
Perfect! Thank you so much.
Of course anyone can wear whatever they’re drawn to, but maybe color analysts have it somewhat right saying only us “winters” look good in black 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I actually like the ankle boot but paired with a structured heavy skirt, like A line leather skirt or dress. With a long straight fit dress I agree on the knee boots.
That bag is to die for! Thanks for the recommendation\!❤
I agree with you about the short and the long dress do look elegent. I yet to try one on but i think i would look like i was being swollen, lol. I am a short 5 ft. Thanks for your tips
Omg the long dark brown maxi with cut outs🤩🤩is ur dress!
I just bought a beautiful below knee wool pencil skirt in navy and can’t wait to pair it with knee high brown suede heeled boots 🎉
Never liked the midi/ankle boot thing 🤔
I’m also loving below knee turtleneck sweater dresses right now
I agree with you. Your suggestions are very helpful. Thanks for that!

Question: If we don’t wear ankle boots with a dress, what do we wear them with? If pants, what style and length? Thank you!
❤ loved the convertible purse!
Could you please make some Christmas outfits we really need that video ❤
Right on time, I don't know what to wear today. I was thinking about a leopard knit dress then I noticed it's 54 degrees in l.a so then I thought of a mustard yellow hoodie and leopard flair leg stretch pants and western boots then I changed my mind and sat down to watch your video 😅
Ok I think I'll do wide leg jeans and cropped sweater instead of hoodie and stretch pants .Thank you 😊
Love your ideas and they do help
Me pull together outfits! You are funny too which is so cute! You have a good eye Anna! Thanks for all the inspo!!😇
I just saw a fitted long sleeve maxi dress at Old Navy in black, if your on a budget 😎
Love the soft ivory & gold you have going on in this video. Your makeup & hair also perfect blend all together. I'm loving your look 😍
I have kinda been retiring my black too and enjoying my brown's as well.
I enjoy your content.
I'm going to play in my closet now😂❤
Anna, I LOVE that versatile handbag and think that one very well may be in my future! Very unique but classic and classy!

Isn’t it amazing-navy is one of the colors that looks awful on me. And I love brown and black and gray
Navy is a great color! And great alternative to black. Thank you for mentioning that! ❤️
These are great tips Anna! Thank you.
Thanks for this vid. Great ideas. (I'm a black wearer).
That lipstick looks great on you 😍
Love the chocolate brown ideas!!! That dress w the cutouts is phenomenal 😍 👏 the cardigan skinny jeans was the worst on me. I looked so frumpy and didnt know why?! Now that i have found my personal style. I know better for myself.
You look so good in that brown diamond shaped dress. It gives you the perfect figure. And you can dress it up or down.
Your makeup is gorgeous here! ❤❤❤
Her makeup has always been good but lately it’s just been superb!
I love these kinds of videos! They help me make sure I’m not looking dated!
Your videos are always inspiring, thanks! For the office, I'm into blazer-meets-expensive sweater in place of the standard cardigan right now.
I've always hated the ankle/mid-calf boot, especially with a skirt/dress where the hem line is above the shoe. Not flattering. Can't even believe this was a thing. I can't even believe you're the first to even mention it. Finally!
I love the versatility of the bag. It's lovely. Xoxo 💕
Love the bag! I love all you “wear this” choices. That sequins skirt! Love! Where is that from please?
Really loved those brown tall boots you had on but didn’t see a link for them. Would love to take a look if I could get a description. thanks
Love this video. Never been a fan of floral prints.
Thank you🤗! Caroline
I LOVE the green maxi dress that you wear about 6 minutes into the video. DO you have a link for that?
hmmm...brown with burgundy.
The dress at 3:20 and the one right after that.
If I wasn’t so darn short, I’d already have the fabric to make them.
Love love the brown Edem Backless Maxi dress. Thanks for another insightful video. ♥
Thank you Anna, never got the ankle boot with dresses. This never worked for me.
I love the turtle neck idea! Thanks!!
Stellar! One of your best! Thank You
I am really loving your videos.
Your videos are so enjoyable and informative. Plus I read through your comment section and you have adorable fans!
The shorter dresses with 1/2 or 3/4 lenth sleeves is actually not bad in any of these photos. For myself I would look better in those than the longer versions. I guess your body type has as much to do with it as your personal taste.
You are so wonderful! Love your channel. Many kind regards from Serbia 💝
Great video!
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
I've noticed that you sometimes mix metal tones. I have a black purse with a silver chain strap.. is it a faux paus for me to wear this with a black belt/gold buckle? Or with gold jewelry?
I always enjoy your content. Thank you for helping me stay relevant.
Glad you liked this one! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you and good job!!!
Love and blessings to you and yours.👍🌹💖🙏🏼🥰
