One of the main problem with diaspora services abroad is customer services. Staff are most often unhelpful or lack a holistic view of diaspora needs. Why would people travelling miles be asked to go back and come another day just because you didn't bring a photo copy. Why not invest a copier to make things easier?
UK London is one of them. Telephone lines that have no one on the other end.
Ct Muga, NduOkoh, and Last but not least Eric Latiff, you are exceptionally doing service to Kenya and the globe at large. This is a P.s who fits and Understands the needs of diasporians. She is on point .
All I hear is big talk and little action
It should be more talk about ease of investment than mere ease of remittances. The latter is not an economic activity. Diaspora also wants an effective Kenyan embassy presence in the various jurisdictions. The Kenyan embassies are too cold and absent in most places. They need to treat Kenyans like their customers and not as inconveniences. It is a struggle to even get someone to pick phones at Washington DC embassy. They hardly respond to emails. One almost always needs to travel to DC in person to get anything done. Finally, someone tell this lady and her office and the entire KK regime that the retrogressive taxes they are trying to impose on Kenyans as far as domestic animals is punitive and can only serve to send away investors or prospecting investors. Why would I become a poultry farmer of 50,000 birds if I have to pay 100/- per bird to the govn't while I already am taxed for chicken feeds and vaccines among other items? Please, Kenyans need less govn't in their spaces; they need zero robbery and minimum interference. They know how to live their lives. Some of these practices are deeply embedded in our cultures. We have been animal keepers and land tillers and fish farmers for all our lives. Get off our backs and we will pay taxes. If you insist, Kenyans will also insist in not cooperating with you. Kenyans are more than any number of law enforcers you want to set on them. So, let's define the line and kindly stay in your space. We want to invest, but we cannot invest with a hungry robbing regime. Let us work together. Earn my trust, and I will not struggle funding your interests that I expect to serve my interests. Shukran Madam Njogu.
You’re correct. This is hyperbole and nothing structured to achieve tangible outcomes in terms of policy and sustainable development.
Come and invest guys.never mind cost of investment... unreliable overpriced electricity, incessant high taxes...how many conferences can mitigate the hostile investment climate?
This woman is exceptionally competent and knowledgable! When she discussed what Kenya has done to evacuate citizens in Sudan and Gaza, and what measures it takes to provide legal status to undocumented children of Kenyan citizens abroad, I must admit - it is the first time in my entire life - a Kenyan has made me feel that I am not alone in this world. She is extremely Trustworthy - a priceless quality in our world! I have not lived in Kenya since 1985.
I felt something too. That is when you can say you have a country...when it treasures it's citizens. I guess there is still hope.
Very passionate about her job. And she's a Havard grad too.
@@coralsky-o3h good for her.
Corruption in government has to end first.
This crazy now we are the target no one in their correct mind will invest until you lower taxes and create attractive opportunities.
Not forgetting the KRA 500dollar limit at the airport and harassment on arrival.
Harr
Brilliant and informative conversation. I have worked in Uganda for over 10 years . I have issues with KRA following me for failure to file tax returns close to 13 years ago. I didn't know it was a requirement for Kenyans working out ofnthe country to file tax returns sunce I had no business in Kenya. My efforts to invest back home is being thwarted by these hurdles. Can your department of diaspora affairs help?
I once had to renew my passport while i was abroad n th process was very slow n th painfull part was when they received my new passport they didnt inform me for six months n i was always calling to ask th progress . Very uncooperative
Its not information. Its corruption from the bottom to the top, including dishonesty 😂
I am surprised that the three of you forgot to ask a very important question. The other day I saw you had the gentleman from Keiyo speaking about the hardships young students are encountering in the diaspora. How could your combined force forget to ask Mrs Njogu what the diaspora can do to give the young students a soft landing? Were you perhaps dazzled by the said Mrs Njogu who I observed is extremely savvy at communications?
This 🎯
..The underlying reality is that over the years, many Kenyans in the diaspora have participated in the politics of our homeland. The overwhelming majority of these interactions have been beneficial, strengthening civil society actors, democratic institutions and political development in Kenya..so the relationship between the diaspora and nationalism should be as important as diaspora and investment..
Financing in Kenya is expensive than abroad!!!!
The PS is very articulate
2nd Guest after ERC Director who know there department well.
Then there is Machogu the CS.
Can the government help the diaspora in hastening project approvals? Sometimes it takes 3 or more years to start a project due to delay and bribery during the process… it’s usually discouraging
This lady is talking trash. Nobody is going to invest in kenya until lower taxes regulation and policy uncertainty. Kenya is not political stable country. Fix those issues first then local businesses will invest. Kenya diaspora one support this economy sending 120 billions shilling a month.
Very good topic, kweli kabisa.
How can we invest while our relatives are suffering due to high cost of leaving…. Not to mention high taxation.
It is hard to trust home. Once bitten twice shy.
Who are these diasporians she is talking about? I know a lot of diasporians who don't even know this office exists. Where did you go in the diaspora?
Man I applied for a birth certificate for my daughter born in Dxb in June, now a month gone and no progress, they told me it would take max 3 weeks. Then also at first application they sent me back because I didn’t have a Dxb birth certificate in Arabic attested by the MOFA of UAE!So tell me we’re an English and Swahili speaking nation but I had to get an Arabic letter!WTF
Trust is the big one corruption from the top. It was okay until i heard two prominent names mentioned 😅
You should also encourage looters of public funds to invest in Kenya.
"KIFUA" Kenyans in France Umbrella Association....that sounds soo wrong in so many ways
How did you know who was coming home?😅
What a bluff! Who wants to put money into an over-taxed economy? It would be a stupid idea to invest in Kenya under Dictator Ruto
This is another finland saga in the kitchen, Dead giveaway.
