This week, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Manisha Pande, Jayashree Arunachalam and Anand Vardhan are joined by advertising guru and columnist Santosh Desai and multimedia artist Anurag Minus Verma.
On the impact of political advertisements, Santosh says it has “never” been a significant player, as ads “simply fail” to reach an audience “beyond a certain comfort zone”. Anurag says influencer and meme marketing agencies instead have become “very important” in communication strategies.
The conversation moves to the elections in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi and Rae Bareli. Manisha, who reported from the two constituencies, says that unemployment is a “really big concern”. She says that while people are talking about it from village to village, it is not a sign of anti-incumbency. “A lot of them say Modi should focus on this [employment] in his third term.”
On the temporary bail of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his speech about Prime Minister Narendra Modi retiring before turning 75, Anand says, “It is a ploy to confuse voters.”

the ek glass paani in the ad was because it was a take on him asking for water from Karan Thapar during the interview when he didn't have any answer, so the ad is mocking that.
i dont think that particular ad was that bad, the idea behind the message was to increase tax compliance and show how taxes you pay is leading to development. ad doesnt have to be too flunky, It just needs to convey the message to the audience. if your point is to riddicule it by saying that govt is misusing the money on ad, its right on that aspect but there is a need for tax compliance too and one way to acheive is adv(unless govt is spending too much that it negates the increase in tax collection)
Again Anand tries to trivialize the accident in Mumbai by comparing with prior advert board related incidents. In a country of 1.5 billion with hundreds of years of history, there won't be a situation where an incident is unique and one of a kind. Talk about the incident that has occurred, ask for justice for the lost lives. Don't hide behind whataboutery.
Anand is not going to laugh however hard you try Abhinandan!

This year, BJP has already won seats uncontested in LOK SABHA, yes in LOK Sabha, in Gujrat. Last time this happened in 1989 maybe. There also might be some reason behind that. It has happened in places like Tripura, Kerala before too. Quiet a c'mon occurrence by the dominant party.

A friend of mine (I would classify him as a BJP - leaning - undecided - voter) pointed out that he supports BJP, but does not want them to get more than 400 seats. So he would not be voting for them this time.
He understands the fear of misuse of media and other agencies. And the idea of 400+ and having the ability to change the constitution puts a seed of fear in him as well.
So a case where "400+" is working against the BJP ...
