The fact that this was gonna be a street driven car for occasional track use and is now a full blown track build that is deafening to be in and wildly impractical to drive anywhere but on a circuit, is massively relatable to anyone who's ever had a project car, truly a man of the people
I really appreciate when creators listen to feedback and admit their mistakes, I didn't think anything was wrong with it the first time so I'm glad there are people out there who can help make this as safe as possible. I miss seeing your uploads every few days but know you've been working tirelessly to get this on the track and editing would take too much time away from that. Can't wait to see it rip!
credit where it's due, he does this more than most... most will just take 5 minutes of the next video to argue with you about why they are still right and you're wrong
Mike, gotta say. Really appreciate the content. Just as the video was ending I was thinking, I have to get out in the garage. Your success is helping push me to work on my own.
i've watched the entire build from the first episode when people went crazy about the swap on your Ferrari and to be honest, i love the build. Keep up the good work Mike
20:10 Bump Stops are somewhat soft for a reason. A hard stop could make the car less predictable in an event of full compression, which would be the worst moment to have a car less predictable, usually.
It's so amazing how well behaved and helpful this community is. Fire extinguisher positioning, magnets during welding, security lines ... it's great to have so many eyes watching and pointing (serious) stuff out and help the improvement of the overall build.
Hey Mike. I've been watching since episode 10 or something like that, but never commented. So I guess it's time to change that. I am so, so happy that you're this close to finishing the Ferrari. It seriously feels like some sort of closure and it's exciting to see it take shape. You are a goddamn legend. Also, if you're still planning on driving it on the street sometimes (because we all know you're gonna want to do that even if it's going closer to the racecar-only side of things), please, pad that roll cage. I know it's not all that probable, that you would crash and bump your head into it, but it's still a good idea nonetheless. You don't wanna give yourself a concussion. Thanks for the great work both in the building department, and the videographical department, Mike!
That cage needs to be padded regardless of where it’s going to be run. My elbow hit a 6” unpadded section of roll bar during a tank slapper one time and it did a number on it. I suspect whatever group Mike is running with will have rollbar padding in the rules.
If you plan to track the car on a regular basis, stay with the lexan windscreen. Track sessions will destroy either glass or lexan windscreens, one guess which is cheaper to replace?
Oh yeah, it's all coming together. You look absolutely stoked and I don't blame you one bit. Even at low speeds the car sounds like a bonafide race car on the interior. Can't wait to see this thing tear around BW. Just make sure you do a thorough nut and bolt check first!
I think it's great how responsive you are to comments here. RUclipsrs always say they "read all the comments" but they never respond to any of them in the videos. Whereas you respond to multiple of them and actually address and fix issues brought up. It's like we're all contributing to this car in small ways. Love to see it. Keep up the great work.
Not many people truly inspire me and make me believe I CAN do things if I set my mind to it like you. This whole thing you have going on is awesome. You’re making a difference in this world doing what you love. What a life.
This quality is the best part of this build. All of the function AND aesthetics is amazing to see. Great work, Mike! Edit: Even the coilover sketch is top notch! 😂
Man... what a beautiful work of art ! Seeing it moving down the street, with that sound, made me grin ear ro ear, i can't imagine the joy you must feel right now ! One of the best automotive channel, period.
I know the EXACT feeling you went through on your first drive. I just registered/plated a 4 year project (Infiniti G35 drivetrain/engine/suspension grafted into a 1976 Datsun pickup) and it was so damn satisfying/relieving that some of those crazy engineering ideas really do work! As you mentioned several times in your build, it really can be a grind. Those hard days of kicking yourself in the ass to get in the garage to get done really do eventually pay off! Frankly, I'm surprised you're letting it go to Australia. The risk of getting it destroyed would be too much of a deterrent for me, not to mention not actually enjoying the experience of driving it yourself.
You can just tell by the driveline stuttering under shifting and decel this thing does not want to go slow lol. She wants to rip! Can’t wait to see it on track and going through some corners. I’ve been watching this build from the beginning and it is so satisfying to see it finally moving around. Lots of hard work paying off. Salute.
I wouldn't miss this next episode for nothing. Excited for ya, been following for 2yrs Also, ...cantilever suspension ??? Maybe a future project? Or that Porsche 928 suspension tech. I forgot what it's called. Self adjusting linkage of some kind.
I hooked up with this build when “some guy was selling a perfectly good engine from a perfectly good Ferrari to swap in a (*gasp*) HONDA!” That guy worked his ass off and made a perfectly good car perfectly perfect. His car, his way. Perfect. From this guy to that guy, well done. Congratulations.
As always, a dope video. I was under the impression that send cut send was hella expensive. Hearing that it isn't makes everyone's use of the service make a lot more sense. As far as the car goes. I remember when you bought this and drove it into the garage... And years later it emerges as a beast. Simply put wow, congratulations on the first drive and by the sound of the car alarms in the background it must rattle your insides
Looks and sounds awesome! one thing I just realized you have been skipping throughout the entire build is showing us the GoPro mounts and provisions for the onboard cameras. I'm sure some folks would love to see that
After Project Binky wrapped up, I thought there would never be another build worthy of watching. This is it. Now that this is about to wrap up, I will wander aimlessly around the interwebs in search of the next worthy build that is capable of killing enough hours to get me through the next 3 years. Bitter Sweet.
@@richardmesser1091 Yeah, Enzo was not known as one who appreciated other people's ideas where his cars were concerned. We have the Ford GT-40...and EVERY Lamborghini as proof of that!
Man, I can't wait to see this on the track next week. Sure, it may have been a slow, quick drive around the block, but that's honestly just as rewarding. I did the same with my Civic once I got new tires and a tune. I live near a school in Houston and driving a car in anger near home is also a bad idea. That smile though... makes it all totally worth it. People are always curious why I spend so much on my car, but it's all for that sense of accomplishment and the happiness it brings.
Good call not to get in trouble on the first test run. Thats reserved for the track when everything is dialed in. And even just cruising up and down the street this thing sounds MEAN. Im glad i followed this project since the Donut shoutout! Onwards to upside down land!
Mike listens to us in the comments SO MUCH about his vehicles, it's so refreshing to see in a youtuber. I feel like we're ALL building this vehicle! 😂 (Also how we're so darn needy lol!)
About the carbon fiber : the most rigid carbon composite you can have is actually with a aluminium core in an honeycomb pattern. Thicker but suuuuper strong and not very heavy since it’s not dense
I'm stoked for you Mike. I've followed this all the way through for every episode. I remember you experiencing na real low in a particular episode some time ago. A distant memory, but the sweat & sore fingers have been worth it. Thank you as a viewer and I am still excited for what is to come. Btw anyone that thinks that was a lame first drive - has never built a car.
Absolutely love this build!! Just a thought from watching other car RUclipsrs, that belt cover could quickly become a thorn in your side if the belt slips off. Cutting some large holes in the sheet aluminum and riveting plexiglass to it could be helpful for diagnosing future no-start problems!
The 288 GTO is (in my opinion) the sweetest Ferrari ever made, but you just can't turn away from a 308. The styling is just gorgeous and timeless, but the stock stance wasn't great, that's (one of the reasons) why I like yours. Low pro tires and low to the ground!
designing and building a trophy truck from scratch out of my garage man can i resonate with those first real drive feels! car is gangster as a mother trucker! congratz and beautiful work!
The attention to detail on your build is something every car builder should strive for. Seeing you take the time and get into the details inspire myself to do the same. Thank you, Mike
Personally, I love this build. I'm a Ferrari and Honda fan- love Ferrari's artistic beauty and Honda's reliability, great way to merge the two together. The people who have an issue probably haven't owned let alone driven a Ferrari before.
Another stancework video on the Ferrari and Mike working on it's suspension one more time. It became a staple at this point. Which is great to see that you are constantly refining it over and over without any fear of re doing work, shows a lot of commitment to get this car to be the best version it can be!
My two favourite Ferraris are the F40 after the 308 GTB/S. (I loved Magnum P.I. as a kid). This is quite possibly the finest 308 I have ever seen. I love it. From the amazing colour, wheels and arches to the choice of a possible daily driver engine (I had a K24 in my Accord type S (Acura RSX in N.A) and even NA trim it's a peach of an engine. Kudos dude. It's friggin amazing!!!
As far as engineering goes, and the sheer amount of work that's gone into it, this car is second only to Project Binky in how fantastic it is. And in a fraction of the time too, lol. Can't wait to see it doing what it is designed to do - going flat out around a track. I really love the white too - I know it's temporary, but I wouldn't be mad if it stayed white.
I've been watching since forever and got to see it at last year's SEMA show. Wow...just Wow. Good luck at Willow and may your difficulties all be minor!! For testing, I'd suggest a camera or two in the engine compartment so someone can yell if a line comes loose or blows and you get warning quickly enough to shut it down before something terminal occurs. Good luck!!
That's one of the coolest cars I've seen anyone do! Am a huge Ferrari fan & an stoked for you. Another car that type of build would be awesome on would be a 90s Porsche 911 turbo s & do you own version of a whale tail, wide body & a crazy motor etc like the Ferrari has! Can't wait to see the next video on the track hearing that exhaust, turbo spool up & tires screaming!
You know you have a successful car project when even as a viewer, I feel that sense of tension, relief and excitement whenever you test the function of anything on this car!!! This is probably my favourite car project series on RUclips, maybe only tied with Project Binky...
Absolutely epic Mike, been waiting for this moment, I had my own a few weeks ago after dynoing the car and being able to test out things such as flat shifting... Yes, I see your load cell on that shifter! 😍 Cant wait for the next episode!
I'm in the final stages of importing a car from Japan to Aus, and one of the first big road trips I wanna take is up to WTAC (from Melbourne) specifically to see this beast in the flesh. Can't wait!
So happy you are going to Buttonwillow instead of Streets. That track makes so much more sense for a car like this. Streets is just way too tight for what you are trying to do. Plus, you can use curbs and see how that goes. And teally happy you moved the external fire pull. I was pretty sure that was going to end up being a "go fix it" item at tech in Australia. So much easier to fix it in your own shop.
I had smiles the entire time you were driving it. This is the moment we've all been waiting for since day one. What a journey its been. Congrats Mike, you have an amazing talent. Keep up the good work an amazing content!
It's so awesome that some smart viewers point out things that can be fixed or done differently for the better. It's even more awesome that you are so open to advice and constructive criticism. So excited to see what this car can do.
In the 1980’s we chopped up a fiberglass 308 GTB and made us a SCCA GT-2 racer. We had a ball racing it in the west. Designing to the rules is daunting as it is easy to miss or misinterpret something. Best regards
This is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations! Beautiful car, virtually a work of art. You poured your heart and soul into this car. I have really enjoyed following your progress,
Coolest build on RUclips, and I'm Ferrari fan, it looks amazing and can't wait to see it rip! Also, props for the sketch the skills when figuring out the shock dimensions.
Fun fact, I build mechanical keyboards as a hobby and myself, and a lot of others in the hobby use Send Cut Send to get mounting plates for switches cut. SCS is great.
I’d have a daily mobility routine and regularly wear ear plugs to actually street drive this thing, 100%. The sound/feel of straight cut gears and those dogs clunking is intoxicating
So happy for you Mike!!! That smile was worth all the work you've put into this build. It's only going to get better as you dial this angry beast in and really flog it!!! Can't wait for the next video!!! Thanks so much for letting us along for the ride!!! I've learned so much from you!!!
Congrats Mike - super pleased for you, great job you should be super proud. I have watched everyone of these build videos and am so pumped for your track session - can’t imagine how you are feeling. Well done again
This project is definitely one of the best I've seen on RUclips. Just curious about send cut send, I use the other kind of cad(cardboard aided design) is there any company that would transfer cardboard templates to computer, so I don't have to buy a computer, and learn how to use it...... I can build anything, I have a mig, and Tig welder, I understand things I can physically touch. But computers.....oh I have terrible luck with computers. And phones. They usually shut down/glitch around me.
Massive, love it and it's about time we saw your car running. Love it and it sounds and looks awesome. I am stoked just to see you drive it Champ. Can't wait to see next week episode. Be safe Champ!
Hey mike, can't remember if you've covered it already, what are you doing for front brake ducting? At Strom It was common for us to put rack limit spacers on cars to not kill brake ducts. That could help reduce chances the tire contacting the fender too. The decrease in Turning radius wasn't an issue at the track, didn't really notice they were there till moving cars around at the shop.
May God strike that abomination with lightning and forever rid the earth of such a creation.
And what about Ferrari?
looks like a pin of shame lol
Of course it is some white guy who subscribes to Dinesh D’souza
You burn library books you don't like also?
Come on man, don't put yourself down like that, it doesn't matter how ugly you are, there's no need to call yourself "an abomination"

Absolutely love that even in low second gear you were setting off car alarms
so stoked for you man. This is amazing progress and work.
This is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations! Beautiful car, virtually a work of art. You poured your heart and soul into this car. I have really enjoyed following your progress,
I got to say bro, you got one of the baddest Ferrari builds on the road.
Mike we need a shop/tool tour, toolbox, the whole nine!
The first shot of it rolling down the street was do rewarding, congratulations.
Coolest build on RUclips, and I'm Ferrari fan, it looks amazing and can't wait to see it rip! Also, props for the sketch the skills when figuring out the shock dimensions.
That smile. So happy for you mate, what an achievement
Fun fact, I build mechanical keyboards as a hobby and myself, and a lot of others in the hobby use Send Cut Send to get mounting plates for switches cut. SCS is great.
I love the drawing of the suspension. Very very cool. Such a cool build and to see that smile makes it!! Can’t wait for the next episode!
CONGRATS Mike! Stoked for Buttonwillow footage.
Dude! the windshield clamps are pure genius......
I like it a lot.
Glad you implemented our advice. Typically windshield regulations require a minimum 4mm thickness, which is probably what you ended up.
