    Genius! I find the Logic interface interaction as like fighting a rubber dummy. This is SOOOOO USEFUL!!!! Thank you so much!

    Just switched to Logic. Nice vid for those of us who did. I wish Logic let us move the channels around in the mix view. Currently, we have to click on the "read" button to bring it into the arrangement view to move them around. That's one thing I liked about ProTools. I like to be able to group my channels into their own categories. Also, Logic... it would be nice to see through the audio regions to make precise edit points. To be able to see the ruler through the regions would be awesome

    I just put it in cycle mode (loop) to start at the same place.

  • @DavidLeeKing
    @DavidLeeKing 2 года назад +13

    Interesting! When I want to hear something multiple times, I use the Cycle area (top part of the ruler area). Just drag a selection, then it loops endlessly - pretty simple! I guess there are many ways to do the same thing!

      Yes, as I was watching this, I was thinking why is this a problem? Just loop the section like you said. I think Chris needs to watch some Logictechhelpguy videos.

    • @david_a_uno
      @david_a_uno 2 года назад

      Yes - the Cycle mode is especially fabulous for tracking & overdubbing parts, but I like his approach for mixing, simply assigning the start point in various ways and letting it play out to wherever you want, without being locked in a cycle.

      Or select a region and hit U. Then your locators are set to that region.

    Someone probably already commented this, but a better way to use the marquee tool is to assign it to the right click (which is in the settings > general > editing > right mouse button is assignable to a tool)
    Incredibly fast + let's you assign something else to the command click tool.

    These are absolutely great tips, and beyond the specific choices, demonstrating the mindset for attacking a project is just brilliant. Thanks!!

    Or shift + click in the timeline (when the playhead is playing) and the playhead restarts wherever you want... 😄

    This makes all the difference when trying to switch to logic from a more intuitive DAW.
    Every little dumb detail adds to the frustration and it's really hard to switch from the daw you know best

    Sweet! thank you for these tips. I've been trying to get used to Logic and get off of Pro Tools after two decades. So I faced the same frustration with the playhead and punch. I got used to the default playhead already and dig it. However, I'm thankful you showed the play and stop to keep playhead in one spot like Pro Tools. For sure going to set that up. Sadly I was looking for the punch-in info when I came across this video and was hoping to hear how to get pre-roll to record. I really wish that capturing pre-roll during punch-in would be allowed.

    Ha, I was about to mention 'Play From Last Locate' - glad to addressed it, and yes your option is much better :)
    If you have the Marquee tool set as your default second tool (i.e. in the right-most Tool dropdown at the top) you can press CMD to toggle between that and the main tool. A nice advantage of this is you simply release CMD then click again to clear the selection.
    Thanks for the video and tips!

    -Very helpful video. Thank you! Logic Pro X is awesome, but the navigation process is very time-consuming and frustrating. 'Cycle' is effective, but it can be cumbersome to constantly set up and move cycle regions.

    Struggling a bit with punch, pre-roll and looping. I have a tough phrase to play on guitar. I'd like the loop to include the pre-roll with the punch only being the specified region (if that makes sense). Think loop on measures x, y & z while only punching on y & z. Is there an elegant way to do this in LPX?

    Hi Chris , can you tab to transient in logic? It would be good if you could, it’s something I’m used to coming from pro tools.

    • @palebluedotstudios
      @palebluedotstudios 2 года назад +2

      You can, actually! With the Marquee Tool selected, you can use the left/right arrow keys to move between transients. The arrow keys also allow you to move between audio clip boundaries.

      I like using markers as well and the marquee tool. The period and comma for fast forward and rewind. Also use the auto punch tool you need to enable it in the advance menu. There is also a third hidden tool menu. Thanks for the info very useful to know there are more hidden features.

  • @sethkessel9734

    I notice that when playing from marquee tool there is a tiny amount of pre roll on the playhead. This is VERY frustrating and I'm trying to edit and cut to transients. So I'd like to hear where I'm playing from without this unnecessary function. Is there something I'm not seeing? Btw, I'm also moved from PT to LPX. Thanks for the videos!

    • @chrisliepe

  • @CalmDownJack

    But is there any way to just have it PLAY FROM THE PLAYHEAD? or ist hat something that logic literally forgot to incorporate. cuz... can't count the times that hitting play just plays some microscopic selection of marquee or something else

    • @bobsdock
      @bobsdock Год назад

      It does. I hated the darn playhead always moving on me. So I set it up to just stop and start where it lies. To navigate back, i normally just skip back a couple bars. I have a key command on the keys to skip ahead or back one bar. I use davinci for video editing and love how the up and down arrows navigate to the next cut point. So I mapped those keys to jump to the beginning and end of region. This speeds up editing immensely. Also love the tab to transient function to navigate.
