  • I find the T7's 1st gear a bit fast during technical riding. The bike has loads of low-end grunt and a lot of stall resistance but it's a bit fast at idle in first. We swapped from the stock 15T countershaft sprocket to a 14T.

    Thanks for showing us how to tension the chain on the t7. The instructions in the manual are not as clear as my previous bikes. And having a chain guide installed made me even more unsure. Using your method gives me peace of mind. Thank you

    thats the best advise ever about adjusting chain tension, and very few people do it right, I do this on every bike, then once I've got the tension set I note the chain slack with the bike stood on it's wheels just leaning against the wall, so I've gat a reference for quick adjustments next time .

    Good tip about the chain and the adjusters. One of the first things I do on a new bike is pull the bottom shock mount and do a chain adjustment with the 3 points aligned, then measure the slack at a specific point (usually half way between the frame and rear axle (I mark it). Then you can't out guess yourself on the adjustment!

      so do this procedure for each sized sprocket I may use (14,15 and 16) and note the slack needed with each sprocket with bike on the ground ready to go. Great idea!

This was a great video for me as I intend to have both 14 and 16 countershaft sprockets under my seat when touring to change as the need arises. Thank you!

      Unless one is changing the sprockets to a non factory origina size, there is no sense to do all that work. Just follow the factory instructions and that is it. He did it that way because he changed the front sprocket from a 15T to a 14T sprocket. Factory specs won't work then.

    Hi, great video, packs loads of useful information in.
    I have a question regarding the chain adjustment. The procedure starting at the 13:50, to adjust the tension at the "aligned point". You seem to go for what "feels right" at that point. Would the "right" translate to the 30-40mm slack? or it seems that if everything is in straight line we want just a little bit of slack at that point?

    • @CamelADV
      @CamelADV  4 года назад +2

      When everything is aligned, I run just a bit of slack there, not taught though, you still need some movement.

      If the down 1in the front doesn't cover it, I'll start going up in the back. I went for the first ride with the 14T yesterday. A nice byproduct of the change is that I'm not speeding as much on the highway. The bike sits in a sweet spot at about 110-115km/h.

    You don't need to pull shift linkage or case protector and the rubber ring on oem sprocket is for noise reduction.. It can all be done quick and easy all you do is have to loosen the rear wheel in the chain and it will come out of there I've already done my t7 put a 17 t on my counter

    Whats the opinion about Pegz Speg with heavy bike? I've seen it on Enduro bikes, not 200kgs. Thanks!!!

    • @CamelADV
      @CamelADV  4 года назад +2

      I LOVE Steg Pegz on the ADV bike... especially on Japanese bikes. The horizontal distance from the bars to the footpegs is often shorter than the Euro bikes, especially KTM. I find it harder to get a good standing/crouching base on the Japanese stuff, the "triangle" is too tall to be stable (YMMV). I end up hanging on much tighter than I want to. I strain my forearms, shoulders, and back far more than when I'm riding European bikes. The Steg Pegz solve that for me. FYI, the ones on my bike are NOT actual Steg Pegz. I fabbed something in the garage (using an extra pair of Stegz puck I had) as the actual brand's product for this bike isn't out yet. Once they have their product available, I'll swap these DIY ones out.

    • @Jotx
      @Jotx 4 года назад +1

      @@CamelADV I'll be aware of it. I mounted Pivot Pegz on my T7 which are bit wider than standard ones. I had them on my Xt1200z but I could fit them on the t7 using spacers. It's just about 1cm spacer, but works perfectly for me.

    The chain on the T 7 is it a 520 or 525 pitch.?

    • @stevenhill2204
      @stevenhill2204 Год назад

      525. Some might say the 525 is overkill as it is common to find this spec on litre+ bikes, but might not be if you ride 2-up a lot, or carry a lot of gear. I never carry passengers and tend to pack minimally even for longer trips, so I'm considering a 520 conversion (rated to 800cc + 100HP =/-) The lighter weight helps unburden the engine a bit.
