I have both milwaukee and dewalt pin nailers and i really like both of them. I love the 20v dewalt one cause it can shoot forever on 1 charge, m12 nailer however would run out on me and i would have to charge it through out the job. I love the lightweight of the m12 one and how it sounds when it shoots. Just feels good to hear those pops. Both nailers in my opinion are great tools for anyone who does finish carpentry.

Have you guys seen the Makita 23 guage pin nailer. It's smaller, narrower, and very compact. Power can also be adjusted easily on the fly. Not sure why anyone would consider this bulky Dewalt (unless you want to stick to the battery platform), especially seeing as you can't get into narrower spaces. Just putting it out there.

@@arnoldwiggins I'm a Makita guy, and I'll tell you the performance of the Makita sucks. I'd love for them to fix their cordless nailer line because I'm invested deep in the blue tools. I know I can get a battery adapter and use any tool I want, but what I want is a good Makita nailer line.

Nice to see an addition to battery powered 23 gauge guns. Can't wait to try it. So far we've been using Ryobi and Milwaukee pin nailers. Pretty happy with both. Ryobi is big and ugly but shoots good and it continued to shoot good until it completely broke after about 2 years of use. Milwaukee shoots like a dream for about 4 months until driver tip gets worn, then it won't drive nails all the way in consistently, because I think driver slips off a nail at some point. We're on third Milwaukee gun at this point, shoot amazing but doesn't last under heavy abuse. Because of Nitrogen cylinder inside the gun, Milwaukee will not sell you a driver to replace it yourself and you have to either ship it back to them or take it to a certified service center. Which means downtime when you need pin nailer now, so that's how we end up with a pile of used up Milwaukee guns. I will say, when laying staircases from waterproof luxury vinyl, we put these guns through tremendous abuse. LVP like Christina Collection can be extremely hard for pin nails to punch through and sometimes we also get bent nails because we hit a nail head in the subfloor. Combination of those things put a lot of wear and tear on the driver tip. So driver lasting 4 months laying staircases from hard material will probably last you years if you use it to nail soft woods like trims in finish carpentry.

DeWalt is late to this party. The M12 is a very nice tool. I've personally been running the Ryobi for almost 3 years and the Metabo for a couple months. I actually like the Ryobis action and double trigger better than the Metabos safety. Have you used a 21g nailer Rob? I have a Grex 21g that I use for built-ins and cabinet crown. It's a great tweener nailer. I wish I bought the Senco with the double trigger safety rather than the Grex press tip safety. As you know the press tips like to shift small material because glue is slippery.

I just wish Dewalt comes out with a smaller 12v pin nailer. That would be awesome.

Saw someone post that the Milwaukee framing nailer was trash -- they're dead wrong. I run ALL DeWalt, and have all their nailers. The flywheel is a bit annoying, but I find their trim nailers to be fantastic. Just had the chance to use the Milwaukee for a day. The milwaukee framing nailer is SUBSTANTIALLY better than the DeWalt. More powerful, no flywheel -- it's just superior in every way possible. As for the 18, 16 and 15, I still like my yellow. Thanks for the review of the pin nailer, Rob.

I totally agree with you about the red rubber band under the jam release lever.
Was going to purchase this pin nailer at Home Depot. They had it on display, so I started to fiddle around with it. As soon as I lifted the jam release lever and saw the red rubber band (before I saw this video), I was turned off. I looked at it carefully to see if it could be replaced easily, and it did not appear to be the case. The red rubber band was definitely a DEAL-BREAKER for me. I looked at the Ryobi P318 pin nailer, saw that it didn't have a depth adjustment, and no tool-free jam lever. However, it was on sale for $190.00 Canadian, or about $135.00 U.S. So, I decided to give at shot, and purchased it. Even without a depth adjustment control, it always sinks the nail to the right depth, regardless of whether it's soft or hardwood (I've used it on pine, cedar, walnut, oak, maple, mahogany, etc.). Was a great decision, and have had no issues or regrets with it so far.

I'd be surprised if the red ring wasn't silicone rather that nitrile rubber. Temperatures shouldn't be a problem, but its durability remains to be seen, I guess. Odd that it needs to be there at all.

My biggest concern is how rapid I can shoot nails, how often it jams and how often it fails to fully sink a nail. One other thing is being able to comfortably hold the gun upside down and shoot nails. My 18g Senco is flawless except it feels weird holding it upside down to shoot nails.

Thank you for a great review Brad. Would have been good to compare to Makita's 23 guage pin nailer. I think it's far superior to both the Dewalt and Milwaukee. Much better proposition. I feel like Dewalt went back in time here when comparing it to the Makita 18v DPT353Z / XTP02Z or even the 40v. Just had to call that out. Cheers.

    • @thefreeaccount0

Agreed - there are so many negative reviews of the Makita 12V/18V pin nailers that I I wouldn't touch Makita's 12V/18V pin nailers. At $550 for the Makita 40V pin nailer kit and $250 per extra 40V battery, I'd certainly expect that Makita iron out the 12V/18V problems in their 40V unit.

fly wheel is better. these gas driven tools have a limited life span. one day they just stop working. As a professional, this is unacceptable.

@@joeeley5354 I can not stand the delay, or the bulkiness of the dewalt guns. Even my Milwaukee’s I find annoyingly large, and they’re far slimmer.
I’d rather buy a new gun every one or two years, than deal with a gun that annoys me every single day. As a professional, this is unacceptable.
Also, Dewalt choose to do gas driven with this 23ga. Not fly wheel.
