There were a lot of fish came of the river that week and you just had to be on the right beat at the right time to find a fish resting in a pool . Like Arnold ill be back Cheers Iain 🥃
There are a lot of anglers that return to the river year on year James and other that go once and never come back. It can be a challenge to fish but hit it right and the rewards are great Cheers Iain🥃
I had such a good time Brian and over the years had some memorable trips to the Thurso river . I think my best was 14 salmon for 3days fishing and 5 was my best for a Spring week . Fishing can be like that and I have had spells where it's been fishing rather than catching and all anglers go through highs and lows and us true anglers enjoy it all Cheers Iain 🥃
From the start of the vid to the end . I was so sure you were going to hook up . Fish on the move , rising river and magical conditions Iain. Just bad luck I’d call it
we all go through spells of watching fish go past us and agree that we are helping with conservation Stephen ......and then wonder what we are doing wrong ........ the salmon always have the last word in grabbing a fly or not we are only there to have fun and try and overcome the elements and also to work up a thirst Im not sure if its luck or not maybe its the lack of practise (need to go fishing more ). Cheers Iain 🥃
I missed a few Running fish with the camera Neil , there was a lot more going through and good to see . Just needed to have one stop for a few minuets and have a look at the fly Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Jon Thanks I haven't seen any comments for a while and glad you have ..... I hope all is well with you and yours and your season now about to get into full swing is going to be a good one ... Cheers Iain 🥃
Great video Iain , a better day with fish showing but still no pull at the end of the fly. I must say the weather was a bit here and there but would of thought you or your brother might of been lucky. Still a great video Iain and stunning scenery. 🍷👍Steve.
Thank you Steve sometimes getting away fishing helps with the other things in life and although it looks like there is a lot of concentration on the fishing there are other things that take over I know a song about this and think that it may have been Perry Como ( Memories are made of this). it may have been Dean Martin . It was good of my brother to come fishing and suffer me gibber in the bar with a couple of pints and then food ... Take care Cheers Iain 🥃
Caithness has its own landscape compared to the rest of Scotland the wind can blow up there hence the lack of trees. in the summer when the wind drops the midges are the size of elephants and bight like lions ........ what a beautiful place none the less Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks stiofain I think that it had been about 10 years since we had been together until this year . time flies and it isn't until you enjoy someones company that you find what you have missed over the years . we get lazy and should try harder to enjoy the things we have . stay safe Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Rupert the Thurso trip is the first away trip I have been on for a few years . Frances health made imposable to book trips and I haven't been in touch with Audrey for years . I may find it difficult to get availability but wood love to get back to fishing the Halladale Tight Lines Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Robert I am not an expert just someone that enjoys fishing. I think that the line is 38ft the polly tip is 5ft and the leader is about 6ft. the running line is cheap one that cost about £7.99 and I think I have about 30 to 40 ft outside the rod tip . we were fishing short switch rods of about 11ft 6ins its not a big river so never have to cast far ....... but you can work up a thirst for beer Cheers Iain 🥃
One to go.....there will be one in there with you or your brother's name on it...either that or you'll end up in the bar a wee bit earlier than planned maybe!
The bar Can be a good place for a pint . the scenery and the chance of a fish holds us back from spending too much time there. Beat 8 is such a great place to fish catching or not 🤷♂️ Cheers Iain 🥃
I haven't made it fishing on the Thurso for about four years but before that I think I had fished the every year for almost 30 Years and look forward to my next trip to Caithness . What a great place to fly your birds . There always used to be a pair of peregrines nested in the gorge on beat 10 but not sure what happened to them Cheers Iain 🥃
thanks James This year seems to be one of these years for me I go out and enjoy myself fishing but the fish never want to party Cheers Iain🥃 If not next time maybe the time after 🎣
Absolutely a beautiful river, Iain! I couldn't believe the fish would not take your fly. Thank for sharing with us. Tight lines, my friend!

Better pools today Iain, I think those fish are suffering from lockjaw. Nice to be on the River though.
It was strange seeing salmon coming into the pools that wouldn't take Paul but an enjoyable day once more .... Cheers Iain 🥃
great video. any plans to do the halladale again any time soon? I only ask because I fish it every August and your videos take me right there!

You make it look easy. Northern Scotland looks way cool, enjoy your fishing year.
