- The natural canvas of Carnatic music is so remarkably large. It is evidenced by the mind-boggling variety of forms, Ragas and compositions which have either evolved inside or flowed into it over its history. Innumerable kinds of expressions and thoughts - often very diverse - have found their place amazingly well in our system.
This time, we present a small selection of verses from Siddhar Paadal - from the large body of medieval Tamizh mystic literature.
Sung here are a few couplets from the intensely philosophical poetry of a Kudhambai Siddhar. A traditional tune set to the swaying gait of a Mishra chapu cycle, carries the text and the needed pauses elegantly - drawing inward, the performer and the listener alike.
