Kinnan has been an absolute force in cEDH tournaments this year, and in this episode we're joined by one of the best Kinnan pilots, WoundedSatellite, to discuss the deck. Max goes over how he began playing the deck, what he thinks makes Kinnan such an enjoyable deck to stick with, and how well he believes it's currently positioned in the metagame. We also talk about the many different Kinnan builds possible, which way to focus the deck for a beginner vs a top competitor, and which Max believes is best. Max goes over his tournament process, the mindset he tries to bring into each game, and how to endure the long hours of an online event. We touch on the strength of green in cEDH, how Kinnan takes advantage of it best, and muse on the idea of new green effects we'd like to see.

How do you feel about Kinnan in cEDH right now? Here to stay, another Winota, somewhere in between? Let us know down below!
Kinnan is a great commander- he's definitely the real deal, giving mana and card advantage in the command zone. And I hate him for it 😅
@@tropical_coffeeand a combo piece
I'm seeing a lot more board wipes whether it's a deluge, blas act, languish or whatever so if the meta keeps shifting towards wipes he'll be joining Winota on the bench until the format comes back around.
@jacoblawrence6554 fortunately at least Kinnan have blue to have game against board wipes, though of course the more around the harder it gets to deal with.
Here to stay! Winota is an awesome deck but it’s weakness is it doesn’t have any blue in it. That’s what makes Kinnan strong. Counters! Both decks are very fun to play though!
WoundedSatellite Here: Thanks so much for having me on the show! Was a blast to record
Thanks for coming on!
Love that Tyler from PlayToWin was mentioned. His Kinnan deck made we want to build it too.
Been playing Kinnan for a while now. Chose him because I love RNG and value. Decided to homebrew Kinnan and slowly test it out over time and now I'm only a few cards from foiling out the whole deck. I never get bored of it.
It's such a fun list.
When Kinnan was spoiled, I thought this should be a really good big monster EDH deck. But cEDH brings out its true potential
I pulled Kinnan out of a pack and just set it in bulk box. It wasn’t until I started commander 1st decks being Obuun and reap the tides. I decided not even reading his 2nd ability to swap him in as a commander. The deck immediately morph and has been morphing annually for me. It’s one of my favorites. As well as my fastest and most versatile decks. It’s not quite CEDH. But it’s definitely high powered.
Kinnan is scary good. I respect the decks power. I play Tivit, and I am currently maindecking Grafdigger's cage, cursed totem, Containment priest and Drana/Linvala as insurance versus most Cedh allstars like Thrasios/Kinnan/Winota/Tayam. These stax pieces work absolutely beautifully, and I highly reccomend them for decks that can play them without disrupting their own gameplan.
Cursed Totem especially can probably slot into most non-green decks that are looking for a piece to answer the Kinnans, Najeelas, and Tayams.
Definitely want to build a Kinnan deck. Seems super powerful.
I love playing it since it always feels live in every pod and let's you go very fast but also play very stable if you want.
@@LemorasCards I also love the aspect of playing big stompy things in cEDH.
Big respect to Max for shouting out Tyler!
I don’t play CEDH but was wondering is Kinnan still good for EDH? Thinking of building a deck I could move on into CEDH at some point
@@Mike-rj8dg yep, definitely still a powerful commander option.
I love kinnan!!!
Such an awesome deck.
Unusal oppinion:
I like playing Jeweled Lotus in Kinnan
Kinnan is beginner friendly, but isn’t that easy to play well.
Definitely agree! It's easy enough to wrap your head around the basics, but has a lot of depth.
@@LemorasCards 100% I'm a new cedh player (coming from competitive standard), and it's been a blast to play (and fail playing well haha). Definitely deceptively complex. Great podcast btw :)
@@hungryguitarstudent thank you!
Played lil' nan since ikoria came out and still not bored with it.
Yuriko FTW!!! Not because it’s the best commander but definitely my favorite…and easiest for budget starting point
I will probably build kinnan because my favourite deck right now is the mono green cedh deck. And I say mono green and I don't mention the commander is because the play patterns and cards way too similar. It feels like back when I was playing standard that I played a green white token deck and I ending up adding some counter spells just for the control decks board wipes.
You are doing you big stupid green stuff and you have blue to back you up. What else can one ask. I am only sad that kinnan is a nobo with my favourite card, that isn't ghave, ashaya that turns creatures to lands. You can't have it all I guess
While Kinnan is not as fragile as Winota, I think it will suffer in the coming months in the same way Winota (and now Najeela/Tivit) has. It has a run in skilled hands, ppl will flock to it because of said success, and ppl are then going to OVER respect it.
That being said, I definitely sleeved me up the serotonin machine.
34:33 I'm four months late to the party, but how strong is a corpse? Harribel strongest. B)
I’ve got the perfect green upgrades;
Instant; G1
Counter target spell that targets a green spell or green permanent you control.
Feels green. Good but not OG counterspell good.
Then here is what I really want;
Instant. 2 colorless 1 Green
You may cast this spell without paying its mana cost if you control the biggest creature in play.
Until end of turn your spells can’t be countered by blue or black things and you and permanents you control have protection from blue and black till end of turn.
SEND
That second one would be awesome in Korvold!
Thats broken in selvala lmaoo
Can someone explain why intentional drawing in tournaments is a thing?
Where can I find his primer?

I'm the guy you played cedh with who said tournaments are "all luck". Probably see you at Warp Gate again, so I'll say this to you in person, but I certainly do not hate tournaments, I've played in quite a few and will continue to do so. As for luck, my argument is simply that it is a large component of 4 player pods. You may be a great player on a great deck, but 4th seat or multiple mulls are constant possibilities that introduce a lot of variance no matter how experienced you are.
Luck will certainly always be a factor game to game, though consistency of your performance will show when that variance is evened out over time.
Agreed, my original comments focused on the game-to-game or even single tournament results. I believe Max misrepresented my opinions and it bothers me he said I hate tournaments, when the opposite is true.
@@LemorasCards And great podcast! It was well organized and had a good flow. The indisputable success of Kinnan is the reason I sought it out.
I've mained Kinnan for awhile. Personally I think he's very high power, but I wouldn't say he's the best.
First!!! This is gonna be a great Video
Beep boop bop beep
That's a good point!
can we stop talking about kinnan, I want my kinnan to resolve and not get removed every turn only for the blue farm players to win
My rograhk thrasios deck is better than ever currently.
He’s solid but he’s not the best commander. The deck is easily stopped by tempo stax pieces like graf diggers or weathered rune stone effects. The problem is most decks don’t play that but when I play my own talion deck I’ve literally never lost to a kinnan
