For some reason, with this particular video, I could envision you as a nurse on a ward, going from room to room, keeping up-to-date on the needs and goals of each occupant. I doubt you think of your plants as patients but it is so wonderful that your hospital skill set found another outlet. And that we all benefit from how meticulous you are. And that you are so generous in sharing what you're learning. Thank you, Melissa!
Thank you Kathleen 🫶 haha it does feel that way in a sense and nursing taught me soo much. If something isn't right with a plant then I try to figure out what happened and how to treat it lol.
The flamingo pot is adorable. Everyone seems to be doing good 💯 You take such good care of your plants. I hope you are taking time for yourself in between all the work you're doing.?! 😊
Your voice is too soothing. I was trying so hard to watch this video in bed last night and I fell asleep twice lol Now I’m watching it for real this time at 10 AM 😂
Thank you, Melissa! Love your videos (I originally found you on IG). So informative. Question. Can your potting mix be used for most all houseplants? Not just aroids?
I swear highly variegated aureas just BROWN for a living... It's ridiculous lol. I have a Thai and Albo with full moon leaves on each and they don't have a single brown spot. Yet my aurea who gets the exact same care, light, etc BROWNSSSSS every time a new leaf starts popping out. It get worse when that new leaf starts hardening. They're like the Alocasia of Monstera. Also, your roots might be great but the previous leaves will always brown and it's pushing a new one... I also checked the roots the first time it happened and they were pristine... the leaves on te other hand, not so much

Hi Melissa, I had been following you. Thanks for sharing your tips in taking care plants. I bought your soil mix for moss pole and the other mix. Oh boy they’re not cheap. 😀 I would like to buy plants. What was your website?
You're welcome! You bought the mixes on my site? It's plantsbymelissa.com. I struggled with pricing but I have to buy a lot of ingredients to make the aroid mix. The tree fern is pretty expensive but I love having it in there. Plants I drop every Friday unless I have to skip weeks.
Your micans aurea looks so much like my melanochrysum; same thing with the travel leaf and the first leaf after settling in looking strange. I am so glad I am not alone, thank you! :)

My son gifted me a monstera albo cutting for Mother’s Day. I am currently rooting it in water in my prop box. I know he paid a lot for it and I’m terrified that I’m going to do something wrong. I see in this video you have at least one of your albos in pon. Would you recommend that I put mine in pon after I get root development or do you prefer your aroid mix? @@plantsbymelissa thanks so much for your advice and for answering me. I have started alcocasia in pon and they seem to be doing ok. If I purchased your aroid mix would the small bag be enough for a one leaf rooted albo?

Hey Melissa, Great video! I wanted to ask about your marantas you grow semi hydro. Do you give them a rest after the water in the reservoir is used up or do you just refill it? Just started semi hydro and what better person to ask then you lol
I’m making a pon video very soon! I’ll definitely share what I’ve learned so far but I usually water them over the top and for newly established ones I don’t leave a lot of water in the reservoir right away. Once they root and grow a bit more then I will add more. Sometimes they go dry but the pon is still moist.
When all those Alocasias bloom, do they stink? My Dragon Scale has bloomed twice lately and it's stinks so bad I have to cut the flowers off before they ripen. I have a 4 bedroom 2 story house and this thing stinks up the whole house! Also, it is sending out 3 blooms from one cataphyl? Is that normal? I love all your marantas! I have been buying them because yours look so lovely!! That Calathea Makoyana needs a pedestal table! It's gorgeous!!
I honestly haven't noticed much of a smell with the blooms. I try to cut them off before they open up but now I am considering trying to pollinate one of them. I'll have to see if I can smell anything lol. Yes! I get multiple blooms like that come in all the time 🫠 and thank you!! I really need to get her a pedestal 🫶
Most of the larger pots are my aroid mix or my old soil mix with fox farm. I don't use that old recipe anymore but anything new I repot goes into the soil free mix.
Thanks. I have to tell you about my mess I made yesterday. I repotted my brand new Golden pothos in pon and a moss pole. About 4 hours later decided to move it. Without thinking, picked it up by the pole!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ You can imagine the mess. I blame it on the fact I hadn’t had my afternoon coffee. 🤣🤣🤣
I just threw out my krimson princess because I took a look at it and it was covered with mealies. I hadn’t looked at it in a while. I was actually horrified. So it immediately went in the garbage. It also had ants running around in the pot so I’m not sure what was attracting them.
oh no I'm sorry! 😢 mealies are so annoying to deal with so sometimes it's not worth the hassle. Was anything blooming above it? Some sap might have dripped in there.
@@plantsbymelissa no nothing blooming above it but my multiflora is coming in with the peduncle growing. The ants are never around that plant. I showed it in my houseplant tour that was the most recent - I chopped it back though to have props for the shop so it's about half as long but it'll grow back in no time.
