I have been pointed to Overkill a year ago and for 12 months I have listened nothing else but Overkill, all of their albums at average 3 hours every day and yes, I know and love Overkill! Bobby Blitz is like the perfect thrash singer. He's capable of going really high, almost power metal high, but also capable of screaming his head off. And his natural voice is just so hard to categorize. It's not screaming. It's clean singing. But the tone is something only he can do.
Agreed he also has one hell of a stage presence. He's not over the top but he for sure keeps your attention especially considering he's getting up there in age and all the health problems he's had. If i was gonna be a thrash vocaist Bobby is definitely the type of guy I'd want to be.
Wow. Ironbound is one of few Overkill's albums I missed over the years. This is my first time hearing this. I guess it's time to complete the catalog. Electric Age, Grinding Wheel and Wings of War were all tops. Their first three outings are still my favorites.

Slayer has two decent albums (I still don't listen to them anymore), Metallica started rapidly declining after their self-titled album (but Lars was always consistently atrocious), Anthrax's vocalist sound(s/ed) is weak-sounding, and like you said, Megadeth is not the same as they used to be. Meanwhile, the bands like those I mentioned still have some life to them. Heck, even Death Angel is making improvements.

This song kicks so much ass. I had listened to Overkill in the 80’s, their classic “one album wonder” entry and never heard from them again and then a while back they opened for Testament and came out and stole the whole night. And nobody upends Testament. The break in the solo is just one of Metal’s greatest musical moments of all time.
Motorhead's "Mean Machine" has always been my fave of theirs. For Years I tried to come up with a version of that riff, bass counter, that didn't sound like a Total rip. Never could do it. Overkill comes along and Does it, and makes one of their Best songs ever out of it. Kick ass. Congrats... Great musicianship, and That Voice. Few bands get Better with age, but Overkill has. Respect.

But Overkill has changed. Compare this to their first album. You can easily tell which one came out in the 80s and which in 201x. Not that I mind, this is really refreshing to see 80s thrash done right today

1. Why the comparison? It´s totally unnecessary. If they are or not better than Metallica, that doesn´t change what you want us to know. That doesn´t prevent us knowing that you love those guys. 2. And why the comparison with Metallica? Why not to compare it with other band?
Don't know if someone notices that, but in 1:29, 0:09, 0:29 and few others DD Verni is playing on Rickenbacker bass for a short cut and right after that - he's still playing on his custom warlock :D
I'm into old school 80s metal and don't usually listen to new albums by old school bands because they're usually very disappointing. I saw Overkill on the Ironbound tour before I bothered to hear the album but i was completely blown away. The best album by an old school band in my opinion.

I'm into old school 80s metal and don't usually listen to new albums by old school bands because they're usually very disappointing. I saw Overkill on the Ironbound tour before I bothered to hear the album but i was completely blown away. The best album by an old school band in my opinion.
