I hate it when people say this album is terrible. Admittedly not their best, but is probably some of the most relatable feelings of anger and pain I've ever experienced from an album. This album has been in my life for a long time and I'm proud to say that I've needed it as much as metallica needed to make it. It has been a real inspiration to how I try to write music, meaning I don't give a fuck if people like it or not because it's for me and to stay true to emotions that I may be feeling at the time, either good or bad emotions. I'm honestly willing to say it's taught me how to deal with the emotions of being a man and dealing with death and hate, addiction and love.
    Love you guys forever.

This song helped me through depression. When it came out, I heard it at least 10 times a day and tried to learn it on guitar. I pushed the hell out of my right hand until I got it right. And it was AWESOME when I played it loud in the same tempo. I don't care what people say, this is one of the best songs of Metallica because it's loud, fast, heavy, and powerful at the same time. And best of all, IT HAS A MESSAGE that you can feel identified with.

Psyche Fuck, when I'm reading such comments my personality splitting instantly. First there is a short period of mad smile and laugh (cuz jokes about Lars always funny even when they're corny) and then that thought... What kind of turbo expensive and extraordinary drugs he was taking during recording and releasing the shit? It's just fucking impossible to let this to factory (disc pressure?) and then sell as Metallica album by healthy minded person who was one of the greatest metal compositors... and pretty good drummer especially late '80 when he could into double kick.
Just think about that. Imagine Lars standing near console with billions of strange buttons listening to final record of this... this fucking piece of insanely fucked up gigantic smelly disgusting loose shitSuddenly he just smiled up to himself thinking that this is ABSOLUTELY FINE and work is done. What is done can't be undone so here we are.
PS. One more think, just want to say 'hello there how's life' to my neighbors that actually listening to this interesting record with me in the same time because of my new speakers intensive test. xD
PS2. Speakers playing all the danish loose poop snare drum part "clean" and pretty loud, police is probably coming right now to put them to jail because of being so rude.

Fans can be so demanding sometimes. They don't want their fav band to move on and express their current emotions, or explore new genres and sound, they want them to stay the same as they were in their old album(s) (perhaps one album the fan particularly likes). The band isn't allowed to move on, they have to stay in their "Master of Puppets" sound and never move on.
I like this album. It was refreshing.

I think people lose sight of the snare's purpose in this album. The album is about anger and frustration, that snare makes you uncomfortable on purpose (like a comedian will make people uncomfortable before a punch line to make the laughter an escape thus amplifying the joke). They want you to get to a dark angry place with no sensibility and that snare is there to make the song sound more raw, it's there to antagonize you so you transport yourself to that place. And then the lyrics and riffs are the escape. It's an album that is meant to be heard while you jump around like a maniac screaming, not to be heard while you sit still and pick it apart. It's the musical equivalent of someone getting in your face until you explode in fury.

    [Pre-Chorus]
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
(You flush it out, you flush it out) Saint Anger 'round my neck
(You flush it out, you flush it out) He never gets respect
    [Chorus]
Fuck it all and no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
I need a voice to let myself, to let myself go free
Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
Medallion noose, I hang myself, Saint Anger 'round my neck
    [Post-Chorus]
I feel my world shake like an earthquake
Hard to see clear, is it me, is it fear?
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
I'm madly in anger with you
    [Bridge]
And I want my anger to be healthy
And I want my anger just for me
And I need my anger not to control
And I want my anger to be me
And I need to set my anger free
And I need to set my anger free
    Set it free!

Dont worry James.... St anger is the best Metallica song. You poured your soul into it. You even mentioned hittin the lights. I follow Metallica wherever they roam and I love it all.

The way everyone feels about this song is the way they were feeling toward each other when they created it.
There is real conviction in every snare of this song.

Because it doesn't deserve it. Pretty good reason, though. Those were harsh times but Lars had always been the biggest dick.

Nothing explains St. Anger better than the documentary, 'Some Kind of Monster.' The film follows the band as it deals with the departure of Newsted, the addition of Rock on bass, the auditioning of new bassists, Hetfield going to rehab (and the other members dealing with this) and the overall, collaborative writing process in general. Basically, 'Some Kind of Monster' explains why 'St. Anger' is what 'St. Anger' is. Fans cannot simply listen to the album and fully understand what Metallica created. To gain that perspective, listen to the album, watch the documentary...and then listen to the album again. It will open your eyes and ears to things you didn't know existed on 'St. Anger.

Who else here loves literally every single Metallica album? I'm obsessed with Load, Reload, and St. Anger as well.

PS: I'm also a disabled person in a wheelchair who films concerts and my dream is to meet Metallica not for being disabled but for the band for all the hard work they do and to keep peoples spirits up in their hardest times in life.
