I did this mod, all you need to do is put a little price of electrical tape to hold the drive down. Also I am seeing much lower temps overall for the SSD vs. stock.

I got 1.5TB MicroSD + 2TB 2242, I leave my on 24/7...no issues, purchased it 4mo ago. I can wait for 4TB 2242 when market is ready for it.

      @dracwula 5 месяцев назад

@@cake300138 Well, running 24/7 as is with 1.5TB MicroSDxC + the pre-installed 2TB drive from Amazon reseller, i don't really know the difference in power draw when i play my PPSSPP emulation games, all my PSP ISOs are on the MicroSD and play for a long time without plugged in and when i do play like an old-school "StartWars Clone Campeign", i docked it with Thunderbolt Hub always powered.
I wouldn't focus on 'fan keeps spinning', my is actually descent and quiet, my Fan setting = "smart profile" + OS Power = "efficiency", I have window air conditioning system and laptop + media server running on the side, this Legion-Go fan is not even noticeable. if low fan speed is on based on smart fan curve, while idle that's expected.
I use HWInfo64 util to get a feel if my CPU temp sensors zones every now and then and make sure temp is with in good operating conditions regardless if heavy process or idling away.

I have that Sabrent Cloner and it's amazing. Built like a tank! I wouldn't recommend anyone to install a full sized SSD on their Legion Go however. Not only is heat an issue but to now have to cut and alter the design not to mention install the SSD with nothing securing it in place is just amateur, no matter how bad you want the 4TB. This video is just to show you that anything is possible but it doesn't mean it's proper or safe for your device. It's a portable device guys, if 2TB isn't enough then you're not doing it right..

Have you done this yourself ? If so - what were the temps of the SSD? I believe stock SSD can also be quite toasty when stressed with data r/w

It might not void the warranty, Lenovo sells spare parts and I think the rear cover, off hand iirc, cost about 80-ish bucks.
I have the 2280 adapter that sits your SSD over the battery but I had to cut a section out of the plate above it so my back cover can fit. The WiFi plate costs about 30usd iirc.
If you're worried about SSD temps then wrap it with the same type of wrap that was on the original SSD and get more of the black carbon transfer pad that's taped to both the SSD and the WiFi plate.

Can you share your final design & temperature results ? Believe, some extra heat transfer tape wouldnt do much as heat needs to be dissipated somewhere and escape the device....

There's a 3d printed battery plate now on AliExpress that has the opening to seat the SSD, I can't post the link.
It sells for 4 bucks. I haven't installed my 2280 yet and it's just a gen 3 drive.

Thanks for the vod.I didnt unplug the battery. 👌 Nice sales pitch on the sabrent cloning device, its pretty cool. I used free macrium reflect to clone which also stretched the partition appropriately and took 20 mins. Used a p41 2tb with just a thermal pad, case closes fine. Max temps 70 under heavy sustained writes.

Does this adapter properly support PCIe4.0? I also purchased the same product and measured the p31 2TB speed and it only showed 800mbs. So I refunded the money and repurchased a sintech product.

I bought a custom Battery Cover with a extended nvme adaptor 2242 -> 2280 so you dont have to cut anything. You simply exchange the battery cover with a gap/cut out to place in an 2280 nvme drive and put the stock back plate back on the legion go. no warranty lost. Also i bought a Lexar NQ790 2TB SSD which is the fastest with the lowest price. All together i came to about 120 swiss franks which is about equal in USD. Thanks Ali Express and Amazon.

Thank you for the video tutorial. I appreciate the pace, thoroughness and honesty. My m.2 crashed on my LEGO and was thinking about going to 4tb using that adapter but I decided to go with 2tb 2242 instead. Still I will keep up with your tutorial cause I may decide to go with a upgrade down the line.

Adapting a 4T disk is an interesting mod, but I would combine it with an extra airy 3d printed backplate from Ali. Adapting the original wouldn't be my cup of tea. Besides running parts too hot does impact the live of the device, but nothing lasts for ever anyway.

Why does manufacturers put an unpopular small SSD size while they can fit a whole 2280 size ssd inside? I don't get it. That is such a big factor for people who already have 2-4 TB ssd purchased

This is such a useless process. You do not need to upgrade the HD. I have the 512GB version and it has PLENTY of space. Far too many people think 512GB is not enough, and that's a shame.

It depends how many games you play or need installed at the same time. Games coming in at 150gb which will be the new normal means 2 or 3 which might be enough for some but personally I like a few games with different genres so I can play depending how i feel. 2tb drives are cheap enough now. Which is what I’ve done. Also gives the opportunity to partition and tryout some Linux/steam distros out
