- Thanks for checking out another one of my videos. Well its November and if your an ocean fisherman and you leave near San Francisco then I am sure you also get excited for this time of year, Dungeness Crab Opener is the first Saturday in November. This year the conditions on the ocean were so bad and I had to postpone my trip till Monday, 2 days after the opening day. It was very successful for crab, we got so many nice big keeper Dungeness crab. I fished in Bodega Bay for this video. You can catch them all along the coast both south and north of San Francisco like Half Moon Bay and out the Golden Gate Bridge. The rockfish did not bite so well for me on this day, we gave it a good effort for them and lingcod.
If you enjoyed the video please give it a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel for more and I will catch you on the next one, thanks Chris

Watching your videos is given me more interesting in fishing & crabbing. Thank u for sharing
Knowing Pacifica pier would be a mess we went to Baker beach on opening day which was fairly busy too. Thing was the surf was so rough our snares just tumbled around and tangled those near us. So we went to Moore street pier and caught a few red rocks. Been awaiting the swells to calm and finally went to Muir beach yesterday. Nope. Surf still crashing fairly far out and the kelp and seaweed so thick each cast brought nothing but a big clumpy salad of sea greenery as the snare again just tumbled around the surf. Lost two snares to heavy clump snags! Only redemption was it was a beautiful day anyway, we loaded up on mussels from the ultra low tide (sautéed in garlic butter for dinner) and a broken-away unidentifiable big crab box trap washed up in the waves. So we got that. Hoping things get better soon or we can get out in a boat soon. Great video ChrisP. Keep ‘em coming. 🦀
Let's go dude, let's go.

Great opener bro! Excellent haul!!

Damm I missed the opener this year herd great things about it . All my fedex customers were gearing up on Friday the day before the open no one came back with a sad face all did well I missed out had to work that’s fedex life for ya .. next yr I’ll be out there with all you already requested it off . Glad you guys did great crap look extremely healthy there in your bucket . Tight lines keep up the good work .
I would love to see you and it gets real fishing do a video together. You guys are my favorites on RUclips.
Keep the videos coming. So catch and cooks too!
Thanks for watching, yeah it seems like everyone is calling for a catch n cook so I will have to do one soon!
Awesome crab opener!! Thanks for your content Chris
thanks man, much appreciated, let me get over to your channel and watch one of your videos tonight!
Oh shit I spelled crab wrong, I need glasses to see the damn phone
Enjoying some of your older crabbing videos. Stop throwing keepers back into the water, hide them and ship them to me here in North Carolina. Just kidding, of course but they sure look so so good.
Thanks for the video. In the 60's/70's the fishing was so much better. We would catch lots of crab off the pier. Renting a boat from Stagnaro's would result in limits of nice size rock fish/ling cod. It is sad to see this demise. Now the party boats get the little tiny rock fish with limits very restrictive. We would limit out on large rock fish of all types. Guess what 20 years from now has in store for us???????? Good luck out there.
That's an awesome video thank you for sharing
Hi Edward, thanks man, I am happy you liked it and thanks for watching!
I have been stuck at home because my boats in the shop and these videos just want me to get out more
Sorry to hear that Reece, when will she be ready?
In about 1and a half more weeks they said
Save your bait on the opening weekend, 8 pots for 2 guys is way to many, that’s like January or February numbers
Great video!👍Great content New Friend Here 😉🤙🎣
Thanks for checking out the channel!
My heart sank 😭when you threw the crabs back in the water 🤦🏾♀️😂
You should get a drift sock for your boat.
showin love to the corpus christi hooks!
Great crabbing
thanks for watching!
Nice job getting the crab. I am going down to Dillon Beach Friday and will fish Saturday to Saturday. I will stay in the bay during windy days, but will do my best to get out. Your boat is looking great with all the upgrades. I loved using my livewell when I had North River, keeps them really fresh.
Hi Jon, yeah I am going to be there Saturday. channel 19 generally. thanks for watching
I will be in a blue Duckworth
hey man, love your videos! I'm fishing the same area so hopefully ill see you out there
Awesome video Chris
The bleed tank addition is nice. Good old fashioned shrimp flies seem to work the best for me. Danielson size 7 in white.
yeah shrimp flies are probably best for the rockfish. I like to go a little bigger just incase a lingcod wants to get aggressive. thanks for watching
ChrisPfish I’ve done really good on lings adding the squid head/tentacles to the shrimp flies.
When the water is green and clear I've had good luck trolling for lings off the head. They will surprise you how far off the bottom they will come. I discovered this while salmon fishing. Great job on the Crab.
thanks for that info. Yeah I have caught some trolling for salmon too. What do you use to troll for them? Thanks for watching!
@@ChrisPfish2 three way swivel 4 foot dropper 9 foot leader any stick bait over 9 inchs...
I fist caught Lings using salmon rotory killer with an anchovy. Then used mackerel in the rotory killer and caught bigger fish. Now I use a Halibut 2 hook set up to put a bend in the mackerel with sinker release. I've also had luck with large crocodiles.
Nice video! I watched a few of your Halibut videos as well.
thanks I appreciate you checking out my videos and supporting the channel!
Nice video Chris! I'm glad the grab are doing better than the salmon did this year ( Sac River) !
Nice haul!!!!
Thanks, I appreciate you watching & dropping in a comment!
Well Chris, I came down sick {no, not 19} around the opener and still have the crud. I may make it out this week though. Watching all those keepers going back was painful!!
Good for you guys though. Love the new boat and how you have it set up.
thanks I appreciate the comment! yeah it was hard letting so many go because there will be days going in with very few but thats just how it goes. Good luck getting well and getting out there!
Amazing video chirs I really appreciate you showing us where you drop them it gives the people that starting know where to drop them 👌🏼👌🏼 I was crying little when you throw those back 😩😩
yeah reading the comments it upsets some people that I am throwing $20 bills back into the ocean but rules are rules and that way there are enough for everyone! thanks for watching Ahmed
@@ChrisPfish2 yeah of course man your %100 right one that man rules are rules it’s not worth paying the fine over that
You remind me of the comedian Bert Kreischer, you're both likeable guys. Liked and subbed, keep up the good content
thanks Cody! I appreciate you checking out the channel and subbing!
I never commented on your videos but have seen many of them and just wanted to let you know you’re doing an awesome job. Looking forward to your next video.
aww means a lot that you would take the time to say that. Much appreciated and thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
Been waitin for this 🔥🔥
Thanks for the support Keaton!
We were going to go out but the weather has been rough on the ocean. Not many avail mild days on our days off. Bummer. We want to get there!
Nice 👍
Lets go
Love the video
I grew up fishing all over the bay area in a lot of the spots you go to👍which brings back great memories! Let me know if you ever need a fishing partner for the day, I'll bring everything but the fish and I'm always down to help, throw in for gas and help wash the boat ✌I believe it's all in good fishing karma. Keep ripping them fish! Thanks for the great videos
You slayed!
Awesome content!!! Give it privileges'!!!!
my friend do yourself a favor and learn how to throw a cast net..
find out what size is legal get as big as you can.. go into the marinas and start catching shiners and anchovies use those for live bait . and then you'll have your pick of lingcod and rockfish.
hey chirs just relax a bit the fish and vlogs isnt going anywhere take a breather bro!
Nice Videos...
Do u take other people fishing with u??
Take me out Chris!? Subscribed since day 1
I bet Matt wished he was in a boat near you. Looks like all of your new gear just paid for it self in the catch.
lol yeah those are tasty expensive critters! Thanks for watching
Can you do a video on what to look for on the fish finder to tell where to drop the crab pots
You guys not ready for the The Bering sea.
Nice Crab'n... next time bring an extra person!
I appreciate your action in putting the fish out of their misery early!
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Lucian Kannon instablaster ;)
@Felipe Landry I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Felipe Landry it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Lucian Kannon No problem :)
Do you do guide trips?
Good video bro ! 💯
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
Dope ass vid bro!!
Not Sure, but the last Crab you threw back in SLOMO, yeah, he looked pissed.
Hey Chris, have you ever been to Bodega for the crab opener? I’m wanting to go this Saturday but I won’t be able to get there until 8:00am. Is there plenty of boat trailer parking at Westside or overflow parking? I’m an experienced crabber but have never been to Bodega before and am looking for some input. Thanks in advance for any tips.
You should be able to get a spot to park.
Throwing those big juicy crabs back actually hurt my feelings.
i hear ya! Thanks for watching!
Love you videos just wondering where you got your Pole holder looking to have one built for my boat
Awesome video! I'm planning on going to either Half Moon Bay or Pacifica, but I'm not sure what time I should go to get a good spot. Any suggestions?
Thks for videos I have learned alot from you!! Do you find crabbing is better during high tide, slack ect ??
jumbos are 7 plus,,apparently you have not crabbed in the pacific northwest
Dangg thats whats up
Good man. Thanks for the video. Great lessons. What is your boat manufacturer?
Nice video. Yes, you should always throw back the females.
Been watching your videos for awhile now. Good stuff!
Can you guys crab in the bays year round in California?
November through June I believe
Hey Chris.
I have the blue pots. They don’t have a “rot device” on them. I noticed your circles on your blue ones don’t either. I was thinking I had to bolt cut the blue circles off mine and tie them back in with rot cord. That’s to avoid ghost fishing if you lose your pot. Is that not required by law ? I thought it was, so I want to be sure before I go out and get caught with gear that will get me busted.
Scotty is struggling cause your new pots are too heavy. If you use commercial crab pots ( like the new ones you use) you need a commercial pot puller
to add as a teaser let the viewers know how many keepers you had to toss back. out of HMB with 10 pots and 3 on board i threw back 33 yesterday myself. nice work chris.
yeah I was going to but i lost track 🤣
Good Job Bro!! Nice Haul.!!
What kinda rods were you using for Rockfish? Just wondering 😉👍
I enjoy you video every time you post a new one keep going a good job and how much do you charge per person to be on your boat for fishing and crabbing
Hi George, I take my friends out fishing and they dont pay me anything besides helping out on bait, parking & gas. Thanks for watching, happy your enjoying the videos and the support means a lot!
You might want to check how you are attaching your harness. If the release string breaks I don’t think your door will open allowing the crabs to escape.
aww your right, two pots have harnesses and I put clip over it. Good call!! I will mention that next video :)
@@ChrisPfish2 I have the same pots I just got this year and its easy to overlook. Going out for my first trip outside the gate this week on my first ocean boat 23' wellcraft.
Do you go crabbing on shore? If so any tips? I’m up in Vallejo.
so its 10 crabs per person. how many pots can you have per person?
You should have disclosed the real opener. I ended up with 5 keepers from Bodega Bay on Saturday.
nice job, yeah I have mixed feelings that I didnt go out on my boat opening day. seems it was okay in close but oh well, better safe then sorry I guess. I appreciate you watching, thank you
Saw you on Family Fish Killer...did you also have trouble with people poaching your traps you left overnight?
yeah 3 were empty and the bait was all eaten up.
@@ChrisPfish2 That is such BS...oh well i guess it would hurt a lot more if it kept you from getting limits...
@@michaelrausch6950 i got 16 for 2 in the others so it was good to have 6 out there
Nice Haul bro! Hey im just curious how far did u go out and whats your depth if dont mind me asking? Thinking of taking my parents on my boat for some dunge before or after thanksgiving. They never been on my boat and this would be their first time and hoping to get limits on dunge! TIA! Keep them videos coming bro! You’re awesome👍👍
Re watch the video from the beginning, he tells you what you want to know
Thanks.👍👍
I've never seen anyone else do it, but I've always had good luck using big bucktails with a Gulp swimming mullet for rock fish and lingcod.
Also, which baits did best in the pots?
thanks for watching and the tip. so best bait with the 16 crab was all salmon (salmon heads and salmon scraps in can).
I've got another tip for you. Rock fish are the best lingcod bait, and you can use one of your ten limit as a ling bait. When you catch a rock fish, leave it down there for awhile. Even jig it. Struggling live bait is best bait. If a ling grabs it, it will not let go for anything until it hits the surface. Just net them both. That gives you ten tries to use one rock fish as live bait.
Threwem bak like how were suppose to. Good job but whatta bumer 😔 hahaha
Nice boat, were did you buy and how much? Like the size good for ocean and rivers. Looking for 1 myself.
I bought it locally from a private seller on craigslist. Yeah its a great boat to do a little of everything in. Thanks for watching!
Nice haul!! Which area usually provides a better haul (outer banks or inner banks?
outer is normally better like on this day, thanks for watching
how do you prepare those fish?
Great catch!!! How far from the shore and how deep is the water?
you go out a couple miles generally. I drop pots in 70-150 feet. On this day the deeper ones did best. spread them out is what I like to do. thanks for watching!
@@ChrisPfish2 thats deep water!!!
Where is a good spot besides pacifica to catch dungenuss from bank?
Any chance of guided charter
On crabbing
Have your daughter went out clam digging? I hope you don't leave those crab nests there bc someone stole my brothers' nests or pods worth over 4k for all the pots. Yep, crabs including pods all gone next day. My family live up northern CA.
