I've just bought cod for the first time in spain and was shocked when they gave me the whole fish, so your video has really helped me. I was trying to cut it with a cleaver at first😅
That's brilliant that you found the video helpful thank you for your comment A cleaver 🙈🙈 well at least you had a go then found this video I'm glad you found it helped How did you find the taste did you enjoy it ?
Thank you buckquat really appreciate your comment I hope you manage to get out and get one I'm pumping lug tomorrow then hopefully Fishing tomorrow night for more Let me know how you get on be good to know Thanks again Dave
This video is great. I didn’t quite remember how my dad teached me when I caught my first fish with him at a young age. Going back there soon to fish one in his honor. Gonna be dinner for me my fiancé my brother his wife and my mom 😎
Amazing video mate. Nice one. caught my first cod at Chesil yesterday. Caught 2 in the end smaller one went back to live another day. Bigger one I’m wanting to cook today. Watching this video made it simple how to get as much meat. 👍🏻 cheers for this well informative vid.
That's brilliant Farley well done on your cod. I hope you enjoy it and I'm glad you found the video helpful. There is a few cooking videos on the channel with cod
If you want the experience of a lifetime, you should panè and deep fat fry or panfry the tongues (keep “both”)! Its banging! Salt cure the roe, use as topping with microplane;) Collars are nice roasted, and cheeks almost like scallop
Thanks for showing this.... the amount of guys that butcher fish on the boat... I suppose we all learn somewhere! Where did you you get the Gerber knife. Tight lines B
@mumtazzafar5696 yes all fine. It rusted inside the handle and snapped while cutting bait. It was a nice sharp knife but really didn't last long and I do look after my kit and keep it clean. Use sakuma knifes now and there amazing and cheap. Blue and black handle built in sharpener too
@@Sky-ud2ym o ok well it does have scales but it's not like a bass it doesn't need to be descaled before you eat it there small scales and you don't notice them
Mate, you start by saying "Get yourself a nice sharp filleting knife" then at around 1:40 the same knife if not effortlessly slicing uo from the vent. Why dont you use a sharp knife? Then at 4:40 the gerber doesn't look very sharp by the cutting.
Well for me buying it for around £8 it's as sharp as it's going to be I'm not a professional which I say in the video it's just the way I do it so trying to help people that have never done it
You shouldn't cut the tail when your skinning it. Your cutting it twice, in the video when you go to skin it instead of moving the knife move the fish. The knife stays flush to the skin and is much easier that way.
There no hard rules on how it should be done Nolan. Everyone will.habe there own way, I did say in the video keep knife still and pull skin back and forth
You don't have to bleed the fish. I have tried both to me there is no difference so I stopped doing it. But I suppose it's personal taste or preference
@@fstavland that's for restaurants the fish last a lot longer when bled out. When I catch these I normally eat them the same day or the next day. Some say the fish tastes better bled out I haven't found no difference but I don't leave them for 3-4 days maybe it would be different then.

Thanks Roland. I hope you land one this winter
Nice vid at 2am when you can't sleep.
Hopefully it helped you out dj
@@C3BFA yea was just curious about the process, more the gutting than the filleting. You never know when you'll need that knowledge!
Very very true DJ well I hope it helped you out
Cheers. Helpful! Just gutted my first codling 👌
Wicked Ben well done. I hope you enjoyed eating it there is a few cooking videos on here with coddling
It was bloody fantastic. Wish the whiting would stop biting so i can catch more cod for the table. I'm hooked after first session at Blackpool. :)
Keep at it ben you will catch more and well done

No worries B Br was just a local tackle shop he dont have anymore either unfortunately it's a really good knife
Cod roe is delicious. Just roll in flour with simple seasoning and pan fry
Sounds nice I will give that a go thank you l l fguo
Where did you get the knife from
@@mumtazzafar5696 I really can't remember but it did turn out to be a poor night it snapped in the handle and cut my hand open

Please, I want know if that cod's skin contains peels?! Is it Atlantic Cod?!
Thank you
I'm not sure what you mean sorry candid
@@C3BFA Thanks for replying! :)
That's no problem but I'm not sure what you mean tho ?
@@C3BFA I expressed it the wrong way may be! I have found the right expression "fish scales" ... Does this cod's skin contains scales or not? :)
It does but you don't notice then you can eat the skin as it is no descaling
Does this fish have scales?
Yes but it's not like a fish you need to descale you can eat the skin as it is
It's not like hard scales

A pet one ?

Your chippy is having your pants down if that's the portion size they sell. Should be full fillet !!!
I did say sort of lol but round here you don't get full portions it's half and you still pay £7-8 for it it's madness
You have to bleed out the fish, if not u get blood in the meat
You don't have to bleed the fish. I have tried both to me there is no difference so I stopped doing it.

I work on a fishing boat in norway. And we have to bleed out every cod. We dont get any money if we deliver unbled fish.

I also want to fish Norway one day for the huge cod and halibut it's like a dream trip bucket list trip
Haha, we get halibuts, cod, longfish and monkfish that are 30kgs++ pretty fun
lol, that's not '6 to 7 inches' mate. 5-6 at best. ;)
Not sure what your talking about chum
Nice video but I would be horrified if you cut that in half and called it two portions 🥺
You can portion it how ever you want every one is different sometimes I will have the whole fillet sometimes one fillet can be split
