Before anyone says shes just hating, Dr. Dray went to medical school and has a PhD in Molecular Biology. Her opinion is based on cold hard facts. People should really think about who they trust more.
I dont think its healthy to take one persons word for gospel. There are many people with chemistry phds or cosmetic regulators who often have different views than dr dray
@@tehmaimed She has the very same opinion which is that it might work or it might not depending on a large variety of factors? You're saying that there are PhD influencers disagreeing with science, which I have yet to see.
Before, my skin wasn't smooth and showed dark spots. However now, after applying this littleexetra vitamin C face serum, it all has changed. My skin feels much softer and clearer. Those dark spots have nearly gone. Now my skin looks shiny and radiant, something I really like. The best part? I do not need to apply as much makeup anymore since this serum works so well! It doesn't make me feel sticky, which is fantastic for me. The serum goes into my skin fast and does not leave any leftovers.
Ok, where’s the camera? I was actually eyeing the Ascorbic acid 8% +Alpha arbutin 2% for fading my postacne marks. This is the 5th time or so that Dr. Dray posts just what I was interested in. Mindblown.
I've been using it for a few months and my marks are fading BUT I'm also using licorice root extract and mandelic acid (on different days) so idk exactly how effective it is. I plan to use Labmuffin's vitamin c recipe next with TO ferulic acid so I'll be sure of the ph
I have to say, combined with The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% Ferulic Acid 3%, the Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% has made quite a difference in my skin. I like the combo better than Timeless 20%.
True, but in a previous video, she recommended Cerave vitamin c. Those two were, skin ceuticals and cerave were the two she recommended. I’m using the cerave. Very inexpensive. It’s the video called cerave vitamin c serum review.
This was interesting. For anyone who has sensitive skin and wants brightening and lightening of pigmentation, I have been using the ascorbic acid 8%/arbutin successfully by adding in a drop of the ordinary resveratrol/ferulic acid product. That acts as a preservative. There is no ph, since it is in a solvent, so actually you can apply it on damp skin. My bottle has lasted quite a while and I am getting great results. It doesn't worsen my acne either. My skin experiences no irritation with it unlike other ascorbic acid I have tried. Hope that helps someone
Whew, there’s a lot of misinformation here. 1. Ok so the resveratrol + ferulic acid serum does not work as a preservative. 2. Both serums are anhydrous and propanediol based. This is why there are no pH values quoted, as for something to have a pH, it needs to be in an aqueous solution. 3. The anhydrous nature of both the ascorbic + alpha arbutin and resveratrol + ferulic acid serums mean that they do not require a preservative. Only formulations that include water as an ingredient or are expected to come into contact with water actually need a preservative system to ward off microbial growth. 4. The ascorbic acid is happily stable in the propanediol based serum and needs nothing added to increase stability / reduce potential of oxidation. 5. Finally, I hope you have not mixed the serums in the bottles as that’s not what they are designed for. Instead just apply a few drops of each to your palm each time to combine before applying to your face etc.
@@keanifer Thank you for your thoughtful response. I am aware that both products are anhydrous and have no ph, although when it hits damp skin, it combines with the water to form a very low ph, approximately 1.5 to 3. When I used the word preservative, I was referring to the mechanism within the skin which is complex and difficult to describe in layman's terms. Simply put, the ferulic acid increases efficacy of the ascorbic acid in the antioxidant properties for the skin. The ascorbic acid is stable in the propanedial long term, longer than an aqueous solution. I have seen excellent results in my own skin with this combination
That is a good idea mixing (not in the same bottle) those two. I wonder if you can mix the 30% in silicone with the reservatrol/ferulic acid product and get results?
@@keanifer so if the vit c doesn't get absorbed into the skin does it still help putting it under sunscreen ? To help to absorb some of the suns rays like sunscreen does? Or does it have to b absorbed into the skin the correct way in order to help out with using it as a way to kinda boost sunscreen
I have been using the Vit C Suspension 23% plus HA and it works very well for me; no irritation whatsoever, skin is soft and well hydrated in the morning
For people with sensitive acne prone oily skin, the ordinary's ascorbic acid 8% + alpha arbutin 2% did wonders. Just to be sure that it was only the ascorbic acid I didn't use any other products alongside ascorbic acid just a moisturizer. I've tried a korean vit c serum that had 21% vit c in it and it burned my skin, I've tried other vit c serums but it either caused irritation or burned my skin. This is my personal experience .
I love The Ordinary vitamin C, especially the powder which I mixed with my skin body moisturizer and I totally see a huge difference, skin is firmer and brighter. I don't use it on my face but I use the vitamin c serums and suspension 23% every morning. I have no complaints about The Ordinary, I love all the products but my skin is not delicate, doesn't get irritated easily, so I can imagine it doesn't work for everyone.
I agree with this completely. The "suspensions" and powder are the worst. Very irritating, lots of stinging. And the ones in a propanediol vehicle break me out. The Ordinary would have been better off working on one decent vitamin C formula like timeless or geek & gorgeous
@@maha.1655 She rarely reviews Vitamin C serums because of the reasons stated in this video, however she just reviewed Regimenlab Vitamin X Serum and she really enjoyed it. It is a third of the price of SkinCeuticals with even more beneficial ingredients. Also, LOTS of people swear by Timeless Vitamin C. Dr. Dray has never reviewed it but it's probably the most popular and affordable alternative to SkinCeuticals.
@Joseph Berg According to the cosmetic chemists on The Beauty Brains podcast, it will not be effective. When people do DIY at home, they aren’t able to formulate it effectively. I tried it, and it didn’t work. And Dr Dray addresses the powder in the video.
@@arfiandeny6440 You can mix the suspension with their acid product, that will get rid of the grittiness, and the acids are formulated at the right pH for vitamin c. The ordinary formulated the vitamin c without water for its stability, there's no pH because there is no water. I would expect a doctor to know what pH is, but... I mix the 23% vitamin c suspension with their 5% lactic acid, this gives me the optimal concentration and pH for vitamin c.
@@junxu4438 Thank you for mentioning this! The solution should be aqueous to have a pH! What is your opinion about mixing vitamin C suspension with their (3% resveratrol+3% ferulic acid) ?
The Ordinary vitamin c 30% suspension works on me!! I know it stings because it is too strong, but I followed the brand’s instruction: mix the suspension with a light moisturizer to lessen the strong formula, and for me I use whitening moisturizer which makes the product more effective on my skin. It’s also convenient because i can use it for a long time since i mix it with a moisturizer. Also my skin becomes luminous and brighten, and prevents my pimples from coming back.
@@fathimaf8287 right now i mix it with olay whitening moisturizing cream. Before I’m using other range from that brand because it suits well with my skin plus the ordinary vitamin c suspension. Hope it helps😉
@@fathimaf8287 yeah. Not only it brightens my skin… the main reason I’m continuously using it is because it lightens my acne scars and dark spots from pimples. Also regulates my oily skin complexion.
@@mariannewm26 hmm I get a sweet, metallic smell from this serum and I find it too oily, doesn't absorb into my skin at all. How many drops do you use btw?
Dr Dray, I loved this review. And, while I agree with you about the efficacy of Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, it is just so bloody expensive and not really affordable for many people. If you ever have the inclination it would be great to hear your review of other well-formulated Vitamin C products, such as Timeless, Geek and Gorgeous, Maelove, etc.
@@gk4539 The thing you have to remember with Dr. Dray is she loves products with data from clinical trials. Before I go on, it's one of the reasons why I love watching her. 🙂 I don't always agree though! Skinceuticals is the only vitamin C serum that has the kind of data our good doctor likes, so it's understandable that's the only one she would really promote, especially considering vitamin C has a few parameters for it to actually work. However, I'm more in agreement with other dermatologists in that other vitamin C products also work. Dr. Dray is more of the "show me the data that it actually works" rather than go by personal testimonies.
I use The Ordinary Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate in winter time because I have oily acne prone skin. This really makes my skin beautiful! Clear, fewer pigment spots. Pharmaceutical researcher Ben Fughs is very pleased with the form of vitamin C. By the way, I don't understand why you criticize all The ordinary products! This is the only brand that really gives me results! Some friends of mine use The Ordinary's Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Vitamin C Serum and their skin is absolutely beautiful!
I use the ascorbic acid + alpha arbutin for my hyperpigmentation. I was shocked at how fast it lightened the dark spots. I made sure to take pics during the journey too. Though, once I’m done with it and satisfied with where I am I’ll be looking for a different vitamin c serum.
@@AchaiCooks thank you I have a spot on my face that’s going to be the death of me. It bothers me so much that I’m scheduled to see if I can get a Lazer treatment to help it
@@My6lvs Dark spots are the worse! It takes a second to aggravate a pimple and you’re stuck with the aftermath for months, even years if not treated. Good luck 🥰
Timeless 20% Vit C (l-ascorbic acid), Ferulic Acid and Vit E girl here. In an air tight container and lasts forever if you put it in the frig. When I become a millionaire I will buy the Skinceuticals lol.
The reason why Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%, Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% and Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone don't have a pH listed is because they are water-less formulas. You can't test for pH levels in products without water. Regarding the other Vitamin C's, very valid criticisms. Skinceuticals just isn't an option for everyone ❤️👏
CE Ferulic made my face burn, also the Paula's Choice booster. I think it's not the product but the percentage. More than 10% of vitamin c is a no no for me, doesn't matter the brand
Vitamin c 30% suspension works on me!! I mix it with a whitening moisturizer as the brand’s suggestion to lessen the tingling effects on skin, and also beneficial for my acne scars and prevention of pimples, plus brighten my skin.
I always appreciate hearing your take on products and appreciate the level (and quality) of evidence you look for before recommending a product. I was confused by some of you concerns re: the ordinary’s ascorbic acid products, particularly your concern that they don’t list the ph. All their ascorbic acid formulations are waterless. I thought ph only applied to formulations with water? It’s been decades since I was in a chemistry class so I may be misunderstanding. Thanks
Thank you for properly pronouncing ascorbic and letting me know I’ve sounded like a ding bat for 20 years by saying *asorbic* 🤦♀️ I worked in the body care and skin care industry for years. I helped people choose products based on their needs. I know enough about the properties of different ingredients to really help someone take great care of themselves but apparently I don’t know how to pronounce ascorbic. No one ever corrected me and I stupidly thought the C was silent 🤦♀️ at least I could pronounce jojoba oil. I used to giggle inside when people would pronounce the j’s when saying jojoba. I wonder if anyone ever giggled at me saying ASORBIC 🤦
I've always pronounced Ascorbic, Askorbik. But i used to pronounce jojoba with j. We live in a different country, though, and English is not my first language.
This was me too up until last year when I got into skincare. Funny thing is Ive heard people, professionals too pronounce it wrong which is why I thought it was fine. Then I thought it could be pronounced both ways.
The few times I've tried products containing Vitamin C, they broke me out so bad I gave up. Wasn't worth it to me. Appreciate your review and your honesty, Dr Dray. Happy Monday!! Hope you have a nice evening. 💙
If anyone's seen Dr Idriss' video on vit c, she doesn't care for ascorbyl glucoside either (unstable) and she doesn't like ascorbyl palmitate (unstable and a total waste of money).
Thank you! In Europe we have the "geek and gorgeous c-glow serum" with vitamin E, ferulic and 15% vitamin C. Can you give a review to it? It will be much appreciated.
the minimum purchase for free shipping is £50 and if you spend less than that, its absurdly high at around £25. It doesn't make sense to buy a £10 Serum and then sooo much on shipping, so I'll probably end up spending £50. I'm not really interested in their other products though and I can't buy more than 1 vitamin c in advance or it'll oxidise. I really want to try the c glow but I don't really think it's a cheap option. How have people found a way around this?
The thing with Dr Dray is that... She is a derm, and at the end of the day she feels kinda uncomfortable recommending unstable ingredients in formulas that weren't tested in clinical trials. Many other influencers will tell you they like it, and probably it works for you! Itsnjust that, as a derm, she only trusts proven formulas when it comes to unstable ingredients (hence why she only recommends Skinceuticals for Vitamin C)
I've tried it and loved it! but it does go off very quickly. if you buy it, I recommend also purchasing the small empty bottle that they sell. that way you can keep the regular bottle in the fridge for refilling the smaller one (holds about a week's worth of product), which you can keep in your bathroom or wherever you do your skincare. I've tried a couple of the ordinary's vitamin c products (I only liked the one with alpha arbutin), but I definitely prefer the one from geek and gorgeous. overall the brand is great, I've also tried their super gentle exfoliator (if I remember correctly it's called calm down and has pha) and their hydrating toner and really enjoyed both. I definitely want to try more of their products! edit: I forgot I also tried their jelly cleanser and niacinamide! they were ok products but forgettable haha the cleanser is very gentle, feels a bit like the cerave hydrating one. the niacinamide feels similar to the ordinary's, but it's less drying and doesn't foam up on the skin or pill with other products.
For those complaining of stinging and burning with vit c - have you considered using Azelaic acid for a few months before introducing the vit C? This is what I have done and I'm not seeing any adverse effects whatsoever from The Ordinary 23% product
omg hahahah Dr Dray does not hate the ordinary!! she reads dermatology papers everyday and she has been working in the field for years! She is not saying that the products are bad or that they don't work, she simply is explaining that the formulas are not backed up by tests and studies. Dr Dray is a derm so she is only going to be recommending things that are stable, well studied and well researched.
Uhm but... How can ascorbic acid have a pH if it's dissolved in a non-acqueous solvent, like silicon or squalane? Of course they don't tell you the pH, it doesn't have one! I don't know what happens to it in the skin, if the ascorbic acid changes phase or something, but you can't say the product is bad because they don't mention it's pH if it doesn't have a pH because there's no water in the formula
I love their products my skin has never been better and I find most dermatologist have bias toward the ordinary due to price I have 4 of those products and they're great. Lol.
Cassandra bankson uses the Ascorbic Acid 8%, and she's an esthetician. Dray is saying she doesn't like it but she's never used it. And the formulation is designed to not oxidize.
Dr Dray, because you like Costco so much, how about reviewing Costco skincare that is sold online as well as at the warehouse, like kakadu vit C with E and ferulic acid.
New (not recommended) drinking game - take a shot every time Dr Dray says I can't be confident or I can't recommend in this video. You'll need 3 days to sober up ;)
Dr Dray, would love you thoughts on what vitamin C should / should not be used at the same time. Seems to be so much conflicting information here. Thank you 💕
I used a whole bottle of the 8% with alpha arbutin. While I cannot say I noticed any change in my skin, the serum remained clear throughout the entire time I had the bottle. So, if that is the indicator of oxidation, it did not happen with my bottle. But again, I saw no change in my skin. So what does it matter really? 🤷🏻♂️
The 23% one burned my skin, it was horrible and stung badly. The 30% one didn't irritate but stung my skin and and was horrible in texture. My favourites were the 15% ethylated ascorbic acid and the 8% ascorbic with alpha arbutin, both no stinging or irritation.
I feel like Dr. Dray’s not responding to so many comments saying ‘what about Timeless?’ speaks volumes and reminds me of the video where she said it was frustrating when people always asked “what about The Ordinary/ Paula’s Choice?”. Just saying.
Yes i remember and i think she said that it gave her the feeling that maybe a lot of those comments could actually be from people that work for the brands because of the insistence
Thanks Dr Dray, I really need this information. It seems that, there is No effective vitamin C in the market. I am also skeptic about Skin ceuticals CE Ferulic because of their dropper and jar packaging. I prefer find a good anti-oxidant product for my skin.
i love watching your product videos even if i have no intention of buying these products, thank you for taking your time to make these videos! they’re so informative. i always look to hear your opinion on products before buying skincare :)
This review is very misleading. The Ordinary Vitamin C products would not be so in demand if they didn't work. Everyone has different experiences with products, that doesn't make those products bad.
Would be helpful to give some other alternatives rather than the cash grab of S.C.! Timeless has a good, stable, and proper PH Vit. C for those of you who don't happen to have an extra $166. :)
Love Dr.Dray’s video but you overlooked ascorbic acid+alpha arbutin, because the solution is waterless, it’s not gonna be oxidized in the bottle and become useless, the draw back is that it takes longer to feel absorbed and has oily feeling to it.
I understand what you're saying and where you're coming from by not recommending these vit c products BUT out of curiosity, have you actually tried their vitamin c powder- I tried several jars of it and it's incredibly finely milled and dissolves in seconds- unlike any other vitamin c powder I've ever used, including capsules from the drugstore or any other pure vit c powder. I always use it with The Ordinary's ferulic acid & resveraterol serum to get the best of all antioxidants and stability with the vitamin c and I layer this mixture after applying a simple hyaluronic acid serum to help with absorption, on a damp face. It works for me and I've never had any issues with the powder clumping because every jar I've ever used is always consistently finely milled. Unlike their first two vit c products in a tube- the 23% and 30% which actually did contain large granules of vit c that led to the hot spots you talked about and felt incredibly irritating (to the point where I had to use a fan to cool down my face after using those tubes- needless to say, I don't use them any more. No vit c product is worth that amount of pain). Anyway, I just think it's worth using the powder that way, though, like you said- there's less visibility on the ph, and the fact that's its a little diy.
@@db-gb5xi Doctors always advise on the side of caution so that it works for the majority of people to reduce the chance of negative effects if used incorrectly, but it doesn't mean its not a good product. But because this powder is DIY and needs to be mixed, its definitely not for everyone. It is however, kept the most fresh as it only starts to degrade faster once activated and mixed into a vehicle for use. In my opinion, for those that know what they're doing and don't mind the DIY hassle it could be a great product. I too, find TO absorbic acid powder to be very finely milled and completely dissolves upon mixing with a water based serum and I make sure the ratio never goes beyond making more than a 20% vitamin C. I then layer a drop of TO ferulic acid and TO pycnogenol over the vitamin C. No irritation issues, no hot spots created. If you buy just asorbic acid powder as a supplement powder from let's say iherb.com, those are not finely milled and has noticeable granules that are difficult to dissolve (don't get those), the TO ones are much more finely milled. The TO asorbic acid powder works well for me, is most economical active form of vitamin C and gauranteed freshest as its activated right on the spot.
@@BY-px1dr Definitely. I love the fact that it's a fresh vitamin c serum every time. Combined with the ferulic acid, under sunscreen- you're golden. Been using it like this for about 3 years now with no issue. I do think to some extent, Derms have to err on the side of caution to cater to the masses- could you imagine what would happen if Dr Dray just said everybody could use the vitamin c powder as is? Guaranteed there would be a group of people doing all sorts of things with it (ill-advised) and they may go on to say Dr Dray told me to, it a loose canon situation and derms would never want people to DIY anything at the risk of messing up their skin, especially with something like vit c which can be quite irritating in high concentrations.
I've been using the powder for over a year and I really like it. I'm on my 3rd jar. I've never had any problems. I just use 1/4 of the spoon that's provided and mix it with Alpha Arbutin.
I'm sorry Dr Dray but I love The Ordinary L-Ascorbic Powder It's sooooo good and it gives you results like brightening of skin reducing fine lines etc I just take a less than half scoop which is provided with the product Less than half scoop mixed with CeraVe moisturising cream or any cream and 5 drops of The Ordinary Resveratrol and Ferulic Acid Serum and one drop of Vitamin E oil and girl......I shine like a bright diamond 💎 It's worth it 👌 i didn't experience any irritation on my skin love it though and I'll keep using it forever

@@user-gn6hi8hz5w Nice. I'm using Naturium Vit C now (doesn't irritate my skin) and typically use L'Oreal in the winter given that it has a moisturizer-like consistency. But curious to try Timeless as well.
She's reviewed the l'oreal vitamin c in one of her shop with me videos. As far as timeless, a lot of other folks have reviewed it. She's pretty adamant about the only CEF serum she'll recommend being Skinceuticals.
Timeless has everything a good vitamin C should have and it’s the correct PH and it’s made often, they have a born on date on each box. Naturium doesn’t have most of these. There isn’t data showing that the Vitamin C derivative is as good or even does much. Companies just make it so people will buy it thinking it’s helping them when it’s not. It’s better to sell consumers something then miss out on the Vitamin C crazy. They also don’t want to do like few companies and makes what works. Lol I don’t like Susan really so I don’t buy her products. 🤷🏻♀️ Timless, Drmtlgy, Geek and Gorgeous and of course skincerticals all make better vitamin C.
I find the Loreal Vit C serum irritating. It leaves a burning feeling on my face. I just quit on topical Vitamin C and focus on sunscreen and other actives (e.g., azelaic acid, tranexamic, arbutin. Mandelic acid and Retinaldehyde on alternating nights) to help with my dark spots.
I use the vitaminc c 23% w/ HA spheres, and though it does have a brightening effect - you are right. It's more like a heavy duty moisturizer. I use it at night, beneath my usual moisturizer. And I wake up less dry (I have oily skin). And I admit: it. is. very irritating. Contrary to what one might think, it hurts less when I exfoliate before application, or you can mitigate the burning/stinging sensation by immediately applying moisturizer - but you should haven't to do that with a product that is intended for daily use. So. I'm switching once I finish it :)) Glad I found this video.
The Vitamin c Suspension HA surprisingly worked well for me despite how weird it feels, specifically for hyperpigmentation and a bit more collagen bounce.
Please try Timeless, affordable and productive, checks all the necessary boxes to be affective..an excellent alternative. Retired Esthetician, Ingredient list junkie educated here.😍

I was wondering if you could do a short video about cuticles? It seems to be widely accepted that pushing back or cutting cuticles is good for you. But when I was a kid and didn't even know what cuticles were, I pushed them back on only one of my hands, and my fingers were inflamed for years before I figured out why. I can't fathom what it would be like to go get a manicure and get them trimmed routinely.
3:32 Whaaat? Vitamin C is in silicone, why do we need ferulic acid or vitamin E there "to stabilize it"? Also, how are you gonna measure pH of product with no water? Looks like someone was not prepared for the topic to talk
I don't know how many comments you read, but I would just like to tell you THANK YOU for all of your recommends! I recently bought (I'm 51, and have dry, sun damaged skin) Aquanil and DML Forte. They both feel SO good!
Dr Dray has a video trashing vitamin C serums of any kind and expressed her opinion that there is absolutely no scientific data that C serum is effective. So I wander what had changed her mind? By the way I use Timeless vitamin C serum and is the most important part of my skin care.
When Dr. Dray says “I do not recommend this product” on Vit C suspension 23%. I felt like my hope of getting my acne marks fade away because I just started using the product last week 😔
Don’t be too disheartened. Dr Dray as a dermatologist cannot really recommend products without studies and robust evidence of efficacy. The Ordinary does not fund such studies so even if the products work, they’re not *proven* to work. The Ordinary does all the necessary testing to get products on the market but that’s really bare minimum. A tonne of derms recommend the Skinceuticals CE Ferulic serum as the brand has funded studies to prove that product works.
You kept mentioning about stable pH for the Vitamin C products but some of those don’t have water so technically speaking, you can’t measure their pH. This is why the pH level is not disclosed because you can’t measure them in products that doesn’t have water.
Thank you for this video, I have rosacea and always want to try vitamin C but also afraid of everything at the same time. I really appreciate your reviews!
Have your tried azelaic acid for your rosacea, rather than vitamin C? In some countries it's available over- the-counter (in chemist/drug stores, some prescription only. 👱♀️❤
Everyone has different experiences using the Vitamin C products and many have seen great results. So you can continue using the products as she suggests with the Ferulic Acid, and see if it makes a difference.
Hey everyone I had been using one of these Vit C's. Not anymore! I've just seen the Ordinary now advise not to mix peptides & any of their acids. I've been using buffet, niacinmide & argiriline with their Vit C and AHAs since it came out! Acids day, peptides night now.
Check Dr Shereene Idriss, The Budget Dermatologist or any other derm channel for affordable vit c products. I'd also check out her other vitamin c videos.
She only recommends the one from skinceuticals. If u want cheaper it won’t work. She also says vit c in not required sunscreen and retinol shd be good enough.
I use garden of wisdom 23% vit c with ferulic acid and my skin loves it. I think it has 69% of the same Ingredients as C E Ferulic at only £10 a bottle (bargain). I've tried TO in the past and totally agree with Dr Dray.
there came a day when I realized the ascorbic acid serum from the ordinary was making my face ORANGE-I could even see the line of demarcation near my hairline. don’t know if I’m just too pale for vit C, or if the formulation was just bad and purely oxidizing on the surface of my skin but yep thats when I dropped it…
@@luigilove254 the amount of blue light from devices is very minimal. It is a small, small fraction of what we get from the sun. The total light from the device is not going to affect the retinoid, as they are degraded by UV light not blue light from devices.
I am a big fan of Allies of Skin vit c serums. They're not cheap, and I use the 20% in summer and 35% in winter. It was actually my first time using vit c and I saw clear brightening on my face. My face used to be so much darker than my neck, after a bottle, I saw the face brightening up. I wish there were more affordable alternatives, but my understanding is that vit c is difficult to formulate, thus the high cost. I'm really happy with Allies of Skin and will be sticking to it.
The 23% ascorbic acid is one of my nightmares. I used it years ago when I started to get serious about skincare. I wasn’t following Dr. Dray yet and didn’t know much better 😭 It burns every time and it’s so itchy that even after an hour I’d have to wash it off cause it was still unbearable. I thought it was “working its magic on my skin” but it was just giving me really bad irritation. Halfway through the bottle I realized my skin is way worse than before I used it. I had bumps all over and they didn’t heal properly and gave me even more hyperpigmentation. The ascorbyl glucoside product felt much better although my before and after pictures showed no improvement. I wish I had just invested on retinoids from the start!
I have a dry skin and i have been using Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin 2% for 4-5 days and everytime i use it, i feel so irritating. Did i buy wrong vitamin c serum?
Have tried that and loved it. Keeps for a long time as well because of the packaging(doesn't oxidize as fast) . Feels a little weird on the skin tho, it has a particular texture that I couldn't quite explain.
Dr Dray, as a researcher myself, I have to say, that you should take in consideration that Vit C in its deravtive forms have been used and are recommanded a lot to POC patients. In addtion, as you may know, research has never took them into account espacially in the derm sector. So saying there is no research out there (or only in Petri dish) that show their its efficacy, then why not mentionning all the Derm collegues or MD's using derivatives with their patients POC? It would get rid of the invisbility of POC in derm research, and talk about real and acutal patients using Vit C derivatives (and how they appreciate-or not their products). I beleive this would definitely offer a broader spectrum of the knowledge developed and updated data about this particular compound (sorry french is my first langage). Thanks again for the presentation, always super interesting :-)
Hey, Dr.Dray. I started using their alpha arbutin+vitamin c and I like it so far. Haven't broken out yet🤞🏾 When I finish with it, I plan on trying the Vitamin X serum. Take care!
There were two studies in the mid 00's that tested 5% sodium ascorbyl phosphate as a possible acne treatment. The studies were somewhat limited, but it performed better than BP and on par with .2% retinol. I wonder whatever happened since, because I haven't come across any products with SAP marketed towards acne prone skin. Most of the hype is around questionable vitamin C formulations for skin brightening and rejuvenation.
Yes, I’ve read the same thing...that SAP may have some antibacterial action against acne. But to be honest I haven’t read those studies. Ironically I have seen some brands use other vitamin c derivatives in their acne serum even though they have an anti-aging serum with SAP.
@@sara_387 The marketing is often confusing. Whenever brands’ websites have the “shop by concern” feature, I usually find what I need in the least expected places.
Thank you Dr. Dray! That helped alot. I was sooo unsure over their options. I ended up buying the vitamin c from satin naturel. Ive always liked their products. Could you maybe make a review over their products? Im so curious what your opinion would be 🤗

The serum goes into my skin fast and does not leave any leftovers.
which one?
So happy to give my feedback. It is 20 days and I'm noticing better glow on my face with the regular use of rice berry vitamin C face serum.
Ok, where’s the camera? I was actually eyeing the Ascorbic acid 8% +Alpha arbutin 2% for fading my postacne marks. This is the 5th time or so that Dr. Dray posts just what I was interested in. Mindblown.
thanks for watching
Right? I was interested in trying the Ordinary's vitamin C products after I got fooled by a dud. It's like she's psychic.
Me too - i literally just bought a couple products on the list yesterday and today here's a video. What sorcery is this?!
Well to be honest i used this doesnt do nothin much
I've been using it for a few months and my marks are fading BUT I'm also using licorice root extract and mandelic acid (on different days) so idk exactly how effective it is. I plan to use Labmuffin's vitamin c recipe next with TO ferulic acid so I'll be sure of the ph
I have had really good results from The ordinary vit c powder mixed with The Ordinary's ferulic acid & resveratrol serum mixed together.
I have to say, combined with The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% Ferulic Acid 3%, the Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% has made quite a difference in my skin. I like the combo better than Timeless 20%.
Do you layer these two products?
The one she recommends is $166! Who can pay that..? I’ve used the ordinary vitamin c and have seen an improvement in my skin.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
True, but in a previous video, she recommended Cerave vitamin c. Those two were, skin ceuticals and cerave were the two she recommended. I’m using the cerave. Very inexpensive. It’s the video called cerave vitamin c serum review.

There is no way that I would pay that much! Does she think that we all make her salary?
Or does it have to b absorbed into the skin the correct way in order to help out with using it as a way to kinda boost sunscreen
love that one!

@@gk4539 The thing you have to remember with Dr. Dray is she loves products with data from clinical trials.

You're not the only one lol. Tbh the way it's written, it's not stupid to pronounce it like that 😂
😂 aww
I've always pronounced Ascorbic, Askorbik. But i used to pronounce jojoba with j. We live in a different country, though, and English is not my first language.
This was me too up until last year when I got into skincare. Funny thing is Ive heard people, professionals too pronounce it wrong which is why I thought it was fine. Then I thought it could be pronounced both ways.
lol I've done the same thing
The few times I've tried products containing Vitamin C, they broke me out so bad I gave up. Wasn't worth it to me. Appreciate your review and your honesty, Dr Dray. Happy Monday!! Hope you have a nice evening. 💙

No BS Beauty is a fan of that line. Doctor Anne (germany) has reviewed this line.
I'd like that too. I prefer vitamin C over Niacinamide. Niacinamide dried out my skin and made it more wrinkled. Don't get the hype :/.
the minimum purchase for free shipping is £50 and if you spend less than that, its absurdly high at around £25.

Dr u have huge fan base across the world ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Lol.

Hello Andrea! And what’s about Timeless Vit C 20% witn Feluric acid and Vit E? Do you know it? Do you recommend it.?
I had really good results with the last one. Specially as an antioxidant. It works wonders on my skin. The Ethilated 15%
Ever since Dr. Dray mentioned the bot comments, that’s all I see now 😮
Love Dr.Dray’s video but you overlooked ascorbic acid+alpha arbutin, because the solution is waterless, it’s not gonna be oxidized in the bottle and become useless, the draw back is that it takes longer to feel absorbed and has oily feeling to it.
Happy Monday beautiful people!! Have a blessed week everyone 🌹💝

Happy Monday 😊😃
She's not the only derm who doesn't recommend using TO powder though. Dr Davin Lim has said the same thing in a video.
I am always wondering about mix-in products... I mean, not all water is created equal in terms of PH.
TO Ascorbic Glucoside solution 12% has done wonders to my skin! Everyone skin is different though
I've been using the powder for over a year and I really like it. I'm on my 3rd jar. I've never had any problems. I just use 1/4 of the spoon that's provided and mix it with Alpha Arbutin.

I love 💘 it. Especially in summer. I have oily skin.
what time of day do you use it?
@@filzar7625 morning
Dr., you just broke my heart. I just started The Ordinary and expecting more products on the way. Dilemma dilemma...😔
can you give recommendations on effective vitamin c serums that are affordable?
Please try Timeless, affordable and productive, checks all the necessary boxes to be affective..an excellent alternative.

I've never heard you talk about the Timeless Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid, but I haven't been watching you for very long. Have you done a video which included Timeless?? That's what I use and I love the delivery system.

I am so wanting her to review them!
Oh I'm early today! I was just finishing watching your vlog from yesterday, Dr Dray! Hope you're having a great Monday!
Happy Monday!
Hi!!! I’ve never been so early! I’ve been waiting for the new video!! ❤️ I was wondering… will a stronger retinol be better for aging skin? Showing more results? Also would love to see more hair care videos! Thanks Dr. Dray!!!
no, stronger is not better

Hope you like it!
Hope you enjoyed you’re Fourth of July weekend Dr. Dray! 💙🤍❤️
You too!
I can't fathom what it would be like to go get a manicure and get them trimmed routinely.
good idea
I used to get my cuticles trimmed at the nail salon.. im glad i do my own nails now i never mess with my cuticles anymore! Great video idea :)
If you check her video on brittle nails she covers cuticles in that one as well.
They both feel SO good!
would u say spf is more important than moisturizer if i could only apply one?
yes
If you use a good sunscreen that has moisturizing ingredients, you won't have to neglect either.

Dr Dray has a video trashing vitamin C serums of any kind and expressed her opinion that there is absolutely no scientific data that C serum is effective. So I wander what had changed her mind? By the way I use Timeless vitamin C serum and is the most important part of my skin care.
This video has been long awaited! Happy Monday!
thanks for watching!
I think you should give it a fair chance and be the judge yourself. Many use it and have gotten results.
You kept mentioning about stable pH for the Vitamin C products but some of those don’t have water so technically speaking, you can’t measure their pH. This is why the pH level is not disclosed because you can’t measure them in products that doesn’t have water.
no water in Aquaphor ointment and it has a pH of 6.82
Hotandflashy Angie did a ph test some very popular of Vitamin C products , it's worth having a look. The results may shock you.
@@itsme_shanti I did watched her video. She added a few drops of water to those water-free products in order to see their pH.
@@Bryane430 it also shows how many recommended products had little to no Vitamin C.
This is extremely helpful! Thank you so much for educating us Dr. Dray
Thank you for this video, I have rosacea and always want to try vitamin C but also afraid of everything at the same time. I really appreciate your reviews!
thanks for watching
Have your tried azelaic acid for your rosacea, rather than vitamin C? In some countries it's available over- the-counter (in chemist/drug stores, some prescription only.

Happy Monday!
I was literally just looking for a video on this and now I have buyers remorse 😭
Well don't. I actually love their products and my skin has never been better.
Can you recommend some affordable vitamin c serums?
Check Dr Shereene Idriss, The Budget Dermatologist or any other derm channel for affordable vit c products. I'd also check out her other vitamin c videos.
She only recommends the one from skinceuticals. If u want cheaper it won’t work. She also says vit c in not required sunscreen and retinol shd be good enough.
Dermtella TetraCE Ferulic, its not as cheap as the ordinary but not as overpriced as the skinceuticals one.
So which is good for hyper pigmentation?
I used the 30% suspension on my hands and it worked great 👍
I use garden of wisdom 23% vit c with ferulic acid and my skin loves it. I think it has 69% of the same Ingredients as C E Ferulic at only £10 a bottle (bargain). I've tried TO in the past and totally agree with Dr Dray.
You just read my mind. I needed this video. 💛
thanks for watching
Greetings louiegraphy hope u well n Happy Monday😀👍💜....
there came a day when I realized the ascorbic acid serum from the ordinary was making my face ORANGE-I could even see the line of demarcation near my hairline. don’t know if I’m just too pale for vit C, or if the formulation was just bad and purely oxidizing on the surface of my skin but yep thats when I dropped it…
Hey dr. Dray!
Can I apply tretinoin and then watch something on my iPad? Or will the blue light from it be bad for the efficacy of the tretinoin?
You can turn off blue light by switching your night shift on your phone
Get f.lux
@@msi8311 that’s what I do. But she said “yes” ? I’m
Assuming she said yes it’s ok to use your iPad after tretinoin.
@@DrDrayzday Are you saying YES to the 1st or the 2nd question??
Dr Shereene Idriss recommends that one.
Same! I just started using it and it dried me out big time! I haven't been into the ordinary like everyone else. Made me sad
Can you please review the rohto mentholatum vitamin C essence? It has ascorbic acid, vitamin E, licorice root extract, and Red Sea bream seed extract
Have tried that and loved it. Keeps for a long time as well because of the packaging(doesn't oxidize as fast) . Feels a little weird on the skin tho, it has a particular texture that I couldn't quite explain.
Is that Melano CC?
It has fragrance, which is a bummer.
Hi Andrea! I would love to see a video about how to manage acne while on antidepressants or medication that can cause acne. (SSRIs)

Thanks again for the presentation, always super interesting :-)
none of my colleagues use these in POC. I just attended a symposium led by experts in treating skin of color, and there was no mention of using these
Hey, Dr.Dray. I started using their alpha arbutin+vitamin c and I like it so far. Haven't broken out yet🤞🏾 When I finish with it, I plan on trying the Vitamin X serum. Take care!
Thanks for sharing!!
