  • Welcome back!! In this wood turning video I'll be making a wood and epoxy bowl from maple that I cut up with the chainsaw. This piece is for my son for his mom for christmas. I know it's kind of a late post and behind schedule. So I went with the Alumilite clear slow on this one to cast it. Used Eye Candy mica powders and finished with Generalfinishes Wood Bowl Finish. The dye used was keda dye.
It did have some issues with dying due to the epoxy, but it came out great!

Wow - that is an absolutely glorious finish you've achieved there - it's gleaming! And your son clearly has a good eye for colour - excellent choices.

The colors are all over the place, but come together in the end. I really like the blue green base color. Nice work.

Thank you! I realized it was going to be a wild one when my son picked out the colors. Just too bright for white wood!
      Thanks!

This bowl is beautiful! Looks like glass with the finish. Very nice!

Thank you Susan! It wasn’t the smoothest I could do, but it’s not bad for a wipe on.

many thanks for showing the finish procedure, I have yet to master getting a finish like that but watching someone do it is miles better than someone saying what they do, cheers fella, Ross 👍👍

It also takes a well trained hand. I’ve applied many with runs that had to be sanded out early on. Just watch how it acts.

Was looking forward to seeing that many epoxy colors going in, but the dye and the gloss made the grain so beautiful I thought they'd clash or compete. Nope! Another great piece.

I saw the clash when it was those colors against the natural wood color. Said nope that ain’t going to work and had to calm them down a little with some dye lol.
      Thanks for watching!

I'm not usually one for several different colors, but that looks great! That finish is impressive, also.Very nice! -Mike

Thanks Mike! Well that was my issue. When it became too many colors, I had to add more to make it seem like less. And thanks on the finish! It’s pretty easy for a wipe on!

Hahaha thanks Jack! I just looked at my son like “are you sure?”. Had to roll with the cards dealt!
You’re welcome! I try and include some of that stuff some times but there’s just sooooooo much you could teach someone but hard to get it all in a reasonably timed video lol.

I thought you were ruining it by colouring the wood but the end result proved me wrong. Beautiful 😍

Lol I was worried the colors would be just too much for such a light wood. They needed a distraction so I gave it some dye.
      Thanks!

Nice job! The use of dyes in woodturning is overlooked too often I think. The finish is gorgeous.

It’s kinda one of those love it or leave it things. Some say it’s an insult to the natural of wood, some love it because it can compliment the wood. I see it as another tool to get it where I want it lol.
      And thanks!

love your channel dude, i hope when i start turning i can get on your level someday. loved watching all your resin projects, definitely learned a lot. can’t wait to see more. ✌️

Just learn all you can right now. Watch various techniques. You’ll find your own way. Everyone does things just a little different.
I’ve only been turning 3 years, but that’s what I did before I started. Just soaked up all the info I could and when I started I had a big tool box full of ideas to use!

Question!?! Could you use different color 'resin streamers' in, say a dark resin? Would one absorb the other?

    • @EppsCreations
      @EppsCreations  2 года назад

You’d just have to be careful of how dark/opaque the dark color is. Would just have to keep it transparent enough to see the streamers. Though the streamers would move some but if you time the temp right of the epoxy it shouldn’t move to much.
