My stars! What talent….I’m soooooooo light years away from this kind of skill….anyway, got to start somewhere. Thanks so much for sharing, much appreciated! ❤❤❤
Oh I love this one! Ripe vs unripe bananas. I like the first pair better, but both are realistic. It's hard to shade yellow with purple (I think) since yellow is lighter, but it didn't seem difficult for you, of course - you found the right tones of red violet and blue violet to achieve the ripe vs unripe effect. Can't wait for you next videos. So cool to watch what you do.
A real revalation of tonal harmony using the complementary as a base. I remember seeing the green in Renaissance underpainting of portraits in the process of commencement of faces. I never thought of the fruit preparation. A great tip and much appreciated.. rosie Hoy NZ
I’ve never heard of this technique before - it sounds most unlikely but what an astonishing result! Definitely one to try. Thank you for this great video. Your drawing skills are excellent, too. Those bananas are good enough to eat!
Hi Craig, thank you so very much for this demonstration/lesson! It never occurred to me that I could do under painting with colour pencils! My sister does it when she does her pastel painting, and it’s amazing! Thanks again! Brigid from Australia 🙏😁
Great Video! Convince me more to do underpainting before doing color. Before when I draw I color my paintings directly but after I tried black and white "grisaille" the output is more natural looking by doing glazing... and you prove it also works on colored pencils! Thanks for the video.
I am planning a video that digs deeper into colour theory, here I just picked a colour either side of the actual opposite of yellow, one colour more towards red (warm) and a cooler colour more towards blue. Thanks.
This was brilliant. A bit of a light bulb moment for me! I like the the second one best. It looks more natural.
Thank you! I agree, I pushed the first one too far I think!
شكرا جزيلا لك . بارك الله فيك

Thank you, yes yellows can be tricky sometimes, its my favourite colour to glaze with though so always worth it in the end!

Excellent and thank you!!! I may have to add some watercolour pencils to my collection! Thanks for the sub, much appreciated!!!
I love the results. I do have to say the first pair of bananas look more appetizing.
Both have a realistic almost photographic look.
Hi Barbara, thank you!

Hey that’s great to hear! I think you under painting with coloured pencil is somewhat overlooked. Good luck using this technique 😄 thank you 🙏

Thank you!!! ☺️
How did you determine which complementary colors to use? A video about using color theory to get the result desired would be super helpful.
I am planning a video that digs deeper into colour theory, here I just picked a colour either side of the actual opposite of yellow, one colour more towards red (warm) and a cooler colour more towards blue. Thanks.
@@CraigEarnshawArt what would have happened if you went with the exact opposite?
Hey thanks for the sub!!! Mixing exact complementary colours should give you the same exact neutral, not warm not cold.
Hi Craig, Thanks for the interesting video. Could you please let me know which paper you are using for this great technique. Thanks again, Ann.
Hi Ann, thank you, for this drawing I used Saunders Waterford hp water colour paper. Thanks again
Muy bueno.👍😌
Thanks!
Are the Holbein pencils oil or wax based?
👋 I believe oil based but the few I have feel softer than polychromos, thanks
❤❤❤
