Finally... THANK YOU. So simple! I watched a few other videos and they made this so over-complicated, plus moved too fast so I could not see what they were doing. It's all about the teacher for beginners!!! You can waste an hour trying to learn something and end up wasting your time. Or, you can learn the SAME thing in 1 minute with a good teacher.
This is so much easier, thank you for such clear instruction. It took me a while to figure out "Gradient in the fill" had to be checked before it would work. I know Inkscape a little, but gradients were aggravating to me after using Gimp for so long...no anymore:)
I ran into this while searching for something else. While I have figured out all this ealier. If I had this tutorial ealier I would not have faced so many problems with gradiant in start, with so many crap tutorials available. This is a very good tutorial. Simple and to point as a tutorial should be.
We, my husband and I, were struggling with that @#$ gradient editor, when we found this tutorial at the same time! I looked over at his computer and he and I were on the same video, this one! It REALLY makes using gradients in Inkscape SO much easier. Thanks!
Thank you for making this video!!! I really don't like to use the Gradient Editor Dialog Box and now I know I don't have to. Yay!!! You are a great teacher. I love that you do close ups so we can see what you are doing and your voice is easy to listen to. The way you explain things is very easy to follow too. I hope you make a lot more videos.
thank you sir! your a life saver, I was breaking my head on the gradient with ink scape, it's a new type of editing program for me and a tricky 1 too!. this was the only thing i couldn't figure out with the transparent part! that was the thing that brought me here or I would have given up!.
Thank you so much for this! I have just spent ages trying to undestand the gradient dialogue without success. This method is awesome and gives you infinite choice! Really helpful, thanks.
I love you. Was getting so angry that clicking "edit gradient" didn't bring up a menu or anything, apparently I just had to click the little nodes. Thanks a lot!
I know, I spent 2 days clicking on the darn edit button trying to figure out the interface. Finally I knew youtube would fix it. and it did! I created a Red/White/Blue gradiant on a 4th of july text because of this video. THANK YOU!
@robertdigger To change a color using a hex code you can go to the Object menu and select "Fill and Stroke." A dialog box will open. You should notice an entry box labeled RGBA. The first 6 characters are the color and the last 2 characters are the transparency.
Thank you...Not just for the terrific tutorial on gradient manipulation, but also for the lesson on how to deliver voice content in a clear way on a video tutorial...And Polite. Exemplary
Wow! that really some some trick.... You have encouraged me to invest more into learning inkscape. your tuts are already proving helpful and I say a big thank you for that. Keep up the good work
Nice. There are so-called creative companies here in London who charge up to a thousand dollars to have logos created, that's just what they charge a small business! These programs and tutorials can save you a ton of cash.
💙🙏Thank You sir for teaching, truth be told that I used to get scare while using gradient because i did not know how to use gradient but now it easy and interesting using gradient on any software..💙!!
This was a great tutorial, and the information you taught me helped me immensely with a vector I'm creating at the moment. However, there are two spheres in my vector that I can't seem to be able to make the correct gradients for. I've tried your method, but despite the simplicity, I'm still scratching my head. Is there any way you could help? Maybe I could e-mail you the .svg file.
Nice presentation, straight to the point and very useful. Please i want to ask a very quick question though not related to this page. The question is what format should i save my print design in, pdf, svg ...etc which as i dont know what the printer would print out with. This is my first time. I am more of a web design and graphic things.
Excellent! Thanks very much for doing this, I was stuck! I also need to know if there is a way to add a custom color via hex code (don't see it immediately, but I hope its there)
Thank you!! Your time and effort put into making this tutorial is much appreciated. Just wondering if you could advice on whether it is possible to use more gradient lines on the one subject? What i try to do is make 3 corners of a square darker than the fourth corner. I've tried with moving/adding/changing color of nodes but i get stuck. Would be great if you'd be able to help!
very nicely explained, but is there a gradient mesh tool in inkscape in some way similar to adobe illustrator or coreldraw? or how can one go about making gradients with asymmetrical shapes and many colours, such as a bell pepper?
Hey, I have tried what was said in this tutorial, and I seem to be having problems. When I select my gradient handle, and click to change the color, I keep getting a solid fill instead of the gradient. Does anyone know what is going on?
I just watched your tutorial and I've found it very useful! Thank you so much! I came here because I was having trouble adjusting the gradients in the eyes of Princess Luna, a royal pony in "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic!" :D
Hello, thanks for the useful video. I have a question: If I draw an object, for example, a colored circle and create a light effect with create and edit gradients (Ctrl + F1), then I can not save the object with light effect together to an object. the object and the light effect dissolve as soon as I move it, even if I try to combine it with Ctrl + G or Ctrl ++ before. how so? Thanks in advance for the answers.

Blimey, you make everything seem simple. Not only are you savvy but you've also turned teaching into a fine art. Thank you :-)
I was looking for a simpler way to use gradients with Inkscape and your tutorial met my need. Thank you so very much for your input.

I have watched 2 of your videos now and both of them were exactly what i needed to learn in inkscape. thank you so much
This was great. So glad you did this and a search here found it. This video demonstrated *exactly* the skills I was looking for.
@EmptyMellon
That’s quite a coincidence. What are the odds?
Thanks for your comments, they are always appreciated.

Wow, that was a lot simpler that I thought it would be. I bet you never thought you'd be helping people 8 years later. :)
Thank you! I just started using Inkscape and this tutorial was simple but will help me be more effective in my content creation!
@robertdigger

Thank you again for showing another detail on gradients and nodes.
been 5 years, still useful for newcomers!
Now 10 years 😅
Thank you very much. I needed only a 2 color gradient for a UML diagram, but your video gave me so much more!
10 years later this video is helping me create game art!!!
Excellent video. You took something perplexing and made it simple. Thanks so much!
Very helpful. The gradient editor was making my small mind grind to a halt!
This is amazing! I really love the gradient tool now time to slap it onto everything

This is really useful and simple - many thanks!!
Thanks for this tutorial, was having problems creating the right gradient.
Great explanation of the Gradient tool!...Thanks!
That was very helpful! There used to be a similar application 10 years ago (that I was good at) that got absorbed by ms. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the tuts. What I don't know is what "sculpting" means in gradients tool when you dragging the stops with "alt" key pressed.
Thank you!

Thank you for that tutorial. It was very clear.
Oh my gosh, this helps me so much. Definitely subscribing! Thank you!

Thanks for a tutorial, I wasn't aware of that and almost started to freak out of gradient editor.
Excellent! Thanks very much for doing this, I was stuck! I also need to know if there is a way to add a custom color via hex code (don't see it immediately, but I hope its there)
