She has the most remarkable non operatic voice in the world. But also what sets her apart from all the other is the incredible control she has over it. She knows how to use her instrument like no other singer I've ever heard. A true musical wonder the likes of which we'll never see again.

    • @Ninafan68
      @Ninafan68 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@TruthSerum101 I love Sarah (I prefer Ella), but Sarah can't belt as high as Barbra. In fact, Sarah did not belt. And her vibrato was intense. What I like about Barbra is her vibrato, just the right speed and amplitude. And sometimes, she sings straight tone, it's always changing, surprising. Listen to that note at 1:09 : she start it staight tone and then, the vibrato creeps in, gradually and the vibrato is subtle, it's not overwhelming, it complements the sound. Sarah's vibrato in the 70's was distracting and too much, like a cake that is too rich.

    • @TruthSerum101
      @TruthSerum101 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Ninafan68 I love both of them and would generally never compare the two, but since you've taken it in that direction - I don't know anyone who sings better than Sarah did and I've been on stage with some of the best. I had the opportunity to meet her twice and I saw her live on several ocrassions. The depth and purity of her instrument in a live setting was otherworldly. I won't even get into her improvisational skills. Do you want to hear Streisand attempt that? Had Sarah chosen to take her chest voice higher, she could have belted as high as Barbra - not that higher is better. Sarah preferred a more operatic approach. She stuck to that. Similarly, Streisand stuck to Streisand in her approach to the arias on Classical Barbra. They are both wonderful musicians.

Then she created "Yentl", and proved what maturity coupled with genius can accomplish. And now she's only 80 - what else will she do? Who can tell??

    • @JeffBazell
      @JeffBazell  2 года назад +1

      At 80 she'll be releasing her memoir book and hopefully accompany it with a multi-DVD set of her career. She's working on that right now. I was 17 when I first LISTENED to Barbra. Picture this:. Myrtle Beach, 2004. A lonely gay boy in his grandmother's house spending the night and alone after dark in the spare bedroom with nothing but a candle and vinyl records from the 60s. He has heard of the great Streisand, this boy, is even sure he's heard her music or send her face. But there, by the dim light of the candle, is a beautiful Jewish girl with a prominent nose on a record cover titled, The Second Barbra Streisand Album withe the word "Second" underlined in red. The ONLY color on that glorious album face. I knew I had to listen to this at once and as I powered the player on and made sure the little thingy that scratched the disc and made the magic of music were working properly, I tuned in for my first listening session with (possibly) the greatest performer of all time. I fell in love with Barbra Streisand that night in 2004 as a late teenager. I have been in love with her ever since.

      Yes, she's a natural with little formal training. I'll contrast her to say, Edie Adams. I read her book. Edie had a fine voice as well and graduated from prestigious Julliard School of Music in NYC as well as Columbia U. Edie was educated in music theory, music history, instruments, piano, acoustics, voice training, the whole bit, but her singing wasn't better than Barbra's or say Judy Garland, another natural talent. Perhaps not even as beautiful. Some people are just born with it. But in opera, that's where Edie's formal training came into play. In that, she could sing stuff a pop singer couldn't touch, however, she seldom got to do it. Anyway, just saying.

    It's crazy how a girl of 20 could convey such emotion (1:35). Simply extraordinary, simply Streisand.

    This is impeccable and pristine. I knew of Barbra but I never really payed attention and I’m glad I did. You can call her the singer with the most amazing acting skill or the actress with the most amazing voice because she is both!

    A primeira vez em que ouvi a Barbra, foi paixão imediata, com a música Memory. Depois, pude conhecer seu repertório musical e penso que não há artista mais completa do que ela.

    Only 20 years old with so much poise and confidence. For those who weren’t around then, the Ed Sullivan Show on CBS was broadcast on Sunday nights. It was a VERY big deal to appear on Ed’s show and America tuned in big time!
