      she has stayed this age thanks to this and other clips. but, I know what you mean...and agree. I think this, at the time of the original production, she had not yet developed her fear of performing and was able to allow us to see more of her personality. plus...that brilliant voice back then, maybe also, bc fear wasn't in the way

    It is one of my life's greatest blessings that I got to see that magical young woman perform Funny Girl live on Broadway. I was 17, it was June, 1965. As one critic said of "My Name Is Barbra": "She is so great it is shocking, something like being in love." She was the definition of charisma--pure magic onstage. You couldn't take your eyes off her; it was like watching a miracle. And then there was the voice. There will only be one Barbra. :)

    Argumentative, temperamental, opinionated, refusing to follow direction, and oh yes, a perfectionist. The mark of genius. What a most perfect blend of new voice, musical production style and ‘60s energy she was at the time! No other artists of her era, except along with Sinatra and Garland IMO, could act their songs like she could. ❤

    • @BTURNER1961
      @BTURNER1961 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@SomeDaysYoureBarbra It did not have to be either/or. You can imagine there might be roles in musical theater perfect for Streisand that never saw the same acclaim because there was no superstar as a draw. How many projects were either never written or stayed in drawers because this unique talent went entirely West Coast? I also wonder what Streisand lost by not acting more with a live audience. So many actors maintain returning to the stage periodically is a tonic to keep you spontanious and connected. Carol's TV shows were always taped with a live audience, so Carol never missed that. If Barbra had insisted on a little more balance, there would have been more than one tony award sitting in her home today. Maybe she just did not like Broadway because the commitment level to each project is different from movies. Its also harder on the voice with 8 performances a week singing in character without the same amplification that a recording studio or concert provided back then.
