Let me recommend that you treat those shallow threads on that composite barrel like they are glass. I would look for a way to not have those threads holding the weight of the Moonlite+Motor+Adapters+Camera+Shock-loads as you handle it.
Good point Denny! They are super thin threads. I guess I could have destroyed my Telescope...but...I got lucky. I first tried to screw it on with the telescope on the SIDE, but, that wasn't possible. The best approach is to setup the telescope VERTICAL and then lightly (as you mentioned, threads of glass) screw on the focuser. I appreciate your accurate comments and suggestions. Doug
Hi Ana, I purchased my Moonlite with the Motor included. Ask Ron at Moonlite, he was very helpful when I emailed him. He should be able to get you going. Doug
Hi Stephen, Do you use an autofocus software? What software do you use? I normally will manual focus mine. Even manually focusing doesn't take long from your laptop. Doug
I have MDL too. I tried Autofocus in MDL a LONG time ago, but, it always seemed I could achieve better focus quicker doing a manual focus. I'll need to look at MDL again. If I remember right, don't you need to train the V curve or something like that first? Thanks for the reply Stephen!
Hello! Quick question! I just bought this amazing focuser with the motor and I have that same ED80 CF. When I unscrewed the factory focuser I noticed the end part is diferent. I had to keep the factory back flange screwed on the tube, otherwise the moonlite wouldn’t fit because both ends we’re male. Have you seen this issue?
Hi Eluid, Contact Ron at Moonlite. He's very helpful. Explain the problem and he will fix it. On Mine. The Refractor tube has threads (Male) and the Moonlite had the Female thread. Call or Email Ron. He'll fix you up right. The one thing I love about Moonlite is the excellent customer support. Doug
I emailed him! He told me that this Moonlite focuser version for the ED80 is shipping with a male flange now as some customers wanted to keep the mounting foot part on the 80mm.
@@terremotosadv OK, I knew he would reply. The FOOT, what a joke , right? The little foot isn't big enough for any stability. I tossed my foot and got rings. Good Luck with your new focuser!
Thank you for watching Paul! If you gave it up because of the expense, you may still want to a lesser expensive option. Really don't need much money for planetary. But, if you want deepsky, it can have an expensive sticker shock. But, after the initial expense, you don't have too many recurring expenses. Doug
You're right. The prices on some of these items are downright ridiculous. It always seems like you're constantly having to spend, more than gather actual light. Even watching this video I don't see the point of this focuser over a dual speed, other than bragging rights.
@@DawgcityClev I have this exact setup. The OEM focuser, no matter how many times I adjusted it, it would always slip backward when imaging around the meridian. It ruined more than a few 5 min subs. I don't have that problem with the Moonlite. It's not cheap with the way I optioned it, but for me it was money well spent. I couldn't care less about bragging rights. What I do care about is getting those images in focus.

How do you attach motor to focuser? I have manual refractor 2” Moonlite, and separately stepper motor.
Thanks

@@Myastroimages ok. Thanks
love my moonlight focuser on my 8" reflector. with auto focus I turned 30 minutes of seeking perfect focus into just a few mouse clicks.

Hey Doug, I use Maxim DL to auto focus. literally take a snap shot and press start and it does it all.

I love mine on the ES-ED102. I usually average around .087 HFR in Ha on Auto Focus with it. Great Product. Thanks Doug
Thanks Sean! I don't have SGP so I really don't know what .087 HFR means, but, I'll bet that's good!?!

Great focusers - just bought my third.
I need to catch up to you! I have two and I agree, great focusers!
cool video Doug! i must have missed this one
Thanks Rick!
