      Have to disagree. There are a lot better episodes in Game of Thrones. This episode dies down completely after Cersei’s shenanigans are over. The Jon King in the North stuff was an obvious rip off of the scene with Robb in season 1 episode 10. And the Arya thing was horribly dumb.

    The white ravens are sent out by the Maesters from the Citadel in Oldtown to herald a change in the seasons. In the scene where Sam and Gilly first arrive at Oldtown, you can see ravens flying out from the tower. The Maesters study reports, determine the season has changed, and send them accordingly. In Season 2, episode 1, one arrives at King's Landing, and Pycelle brings it to the Small Council meeting, and tells Cersei and the others that summer has ended. That summer lasted nine years before it started transitioning into autumn - since a season in Game of Thrones is roughly a year, it means the autumn from Seasons 2 - 6 has lasted about five years or so.

    Margaery is a survivor (I mean...not literally in this episode, but nevermind that) and a political chameleon. She's extremely adept at deducing what drives and makes people tick and then trying to mirror that which she thinks they want to see in her, all so she can ascend to the top position of power (remember season two when she replied to Littlefinger that she wanted to be THE queen after Renly had been assassinated). That's why she could work so well and get in close with Renly to try to make their marriage work even though she knew full well he was gay and not interested in her that way. That's why she could with Joffrey despite him being an aggressive proto-serial killer. And that's why she could with the High Sparrow religious fanatics - by telling them enough of what they want to hear and selling it. She's great at wearing masks - just not literal ones like Arya.
    She wasn't cruel for the sake of cruelty (like Joffrey or Ramsey) or as single-mindedly petty and vindictive to her own detriment over any trivial thing like Cersei. She was just selfish because she wanted power and status for herself above all as much as possible, and could always see and keep the bigger picture in mind. I really admire and was impressed with her, honestly. One of the best characters on the show who feels very real, human, and with a lot of depth, and portrayed to be more grey instead of as a hero or villain-type. Natalie Dormer really brought her to life.

    A nitpick : Varys is already in Westeros (to be specific, in Dorne) during this episode... And then in the last shot we see him alongside Dany sailing to Weseros. It's unlikely he had the time to sail back to Mereen.

    • @awadoma2702

      what people fail to understand is that days, weeks or months pass between scenes, Varys could have gone all the way back or he and the Dorn & Highgarden fleets meet up and join with Dany along the way to their final destination.

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 5 месяцев назад

      The very last scene is many weeks after Varys' scene in Dorne. He doesn't sail back to Meereen. He sails with the Dornish on their ships and they meet up in the Narrow Sea. Just that level of coordination and meeting up shows that much time has passed.

      @@awadoma2702This! We're not watching "24", people... events aren't happening "in real time". Time skips have occurred constantly in the series. It took a month for King Robert to journey to Winterfell in the very first episode, and it all occurred within that first episode... perhaps 10 minutes between receiving the announcement that he was coming to Winterfell and the arrival of his entourage. The difference is that in the later seasons, we often didn't get the little throwaway lines about "a month", "a fortnight", etc. to clue us in because they were trying to expedite the storyline in fewer episodes, and sadly, those bits of information were among the cuts.

Anyway Margaery didnt turn Loras into the faith. We could only assume, she just wanted Loras in Highgarden, and once there, he would be free and not following the faith. In HighGarden, no Sparrow would touch him. What is frustrating on margaery death, unlike Robb death, Catelyn of suspecious about the lannister song, but it was Bolton who slip the armor, for her to see. Margaery suspect about something almost from beginning. Even without any conclusion, she wanted to leave. Cersei didnt outsmart margaery. Margaery was cornered by a fool who imagine could play the game, and facing a enemy that had advantage by walking free in red keep and could talk to rivals or allies to do her dirty job. Highsparrow neglected cersei and dragged margaery into death.

    Not that it matters now, but Margery was willing to stick it out in jail until rescue came, but then she got to see Lorys and how bad he was handling it all. So, she calculated the quickest way out and took matters into her own hands. Thoman was not strong enough to fix this. She pretended to go along with Westerosi Bernie Sanders to get herself and Lorys out. Once out, she would manipulate Thoman to end the High Sparrow. She never got the chance though. The rose she gave Olenna was the sygil of their house. It was meant to indicate Tyrell 4 Eva. She was playing the game and she needed Lady Olenna to leave b/c she was in danger.

    Sansa was not the only reason they won the battle.
    The vale would never have even came north to help if Jon's army had not been involved.
    The vale without Jon's army would have failed, Jon's army without the vale would have failed... so they were both needed to win the battle.
    Jon's army weakened the enemy's numbers that allowed the vale to come in last second and finish them off.
    It played out the way the writers wanted for dramatic effect... The right thing to do would have been for Sansa to tell Jon about the Vale. they wouldn't have lost so many lives, as they would have held back a bit more till the Vale arrived mid battle to help.

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 5 месяцев назад +1

      Nope. Jon's army was a decoy to lure Ramsey out from behind the walls of Winterfell. Ramsey only gave up his superior position because he thought he had an easy victory against Jon. If Jon keeps withdrawing or refuses to engage, Ramsey catches on that something ain't right and marches his troops back to Winterfell. If that happens, the Vale army is useless. Cavalry are of no value in a siege and no one has siege equipment anyway. The right thing was not to tell Jon so that Ramsey has no chance of figuring out the real plan.

    • @awadoma2702

      @@gunkulator1 Sansa has no clue if the Vale is coming and when they will get there, so if the Vale arrived an hour or so later all of Jon's forces would be dead and the Vale would be useless as they Ramsey would retreat to Winterfell.
      If Jon knew about the Vale the attack could have been coordinated with the Vale to surprise Ramsey and save most of Jon's forces from being killed.
      There is no excuse from withholding info from Jon other then the writers wanting to surprise the viewers with the last minute rescue.
      telling Jon does not mean you also have to let Ramsey also know which is the argument that people make as to why it's better for Jon not to know... the fight would still go on as it did but you would time it so the Vale came in mid fight instead of at the end

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 5 месяцев назад

      @@awadoma2702 Sansa knows all about it. She and Littlefinger meet in Mole's Town and plan it out. Sansa does coordinate with the Vale to surprise Ramsey. Why is Jon needed for this? Again, if he acts in a way that suggests reinforcements are coming, Ramsey figures out something is up. Why risk it? The very best way to surprise Ramsey is for Jon to act like a desperate outnumbered commander and the best way for him to do that is if he really believes that to be his situation.
      When Robb Stark sent 2000 men to die as a decoy for the Lannisters, do you think he told them? First rule of secret plans: keep them secret. You only tell people what they need to know. Jon most definitely did not need to know. As to the timing, Jon blows that up all on his own by charging after Rickon. It is Jon's recklessness and inability to control his emotions that almost dooms his army. He bears far more responsibility for their deaths than Sansa.

      @@gunkulator1 lol i'm not even going to form any kind of reply for everything you just said... no time to get into a back and forth over so many things i disagree with what you just said, just a few points that i will touch on. nothing was planned at Mole town as they did not know how events were going to play out... by your logic Sansa was willing to sacrifice Jon and his army by not telling him about the Vale, and your argument assumes that Jon can't keep from giving away to the enemy that the Vale is coming to help.
      there was only one reason the Vale was kept secret and that was to surprise the audience. and the reason not to tell Jon was lazy and bad writing.

Right after that, two things happen: Sansa goads Jon into agreeing to attack Winterfell while LF goes off to the Vale to convince young Robin Arryn to do the same. Gee what an amazing coincidence - not. Clearly this was what they planned when they met.
      Yes, Sansa was willing to sacrifice Jon in order to stop Ramsey. Rickon too. This isn't S1 Sansa. This is S6 Sansa after she's learned some very harsh realities from the school of hard knocks. She does the exact same thing that Robb Stark does with 2000 northerners in S1 but for some reason only Sansa gets heat for doing it. She doesn't tell Jon for the same reason Robb Stark does not clue in the 2000 northerners that he's sending to their deaths. I think it's pretty clear that he was genuinely acting out his religion. In multiple instances, his religion actually kept him from gaining even more power. People who use religion to manipulate will cut corners and ignore small but significant things about the religion when it benefits them. The way he talked about his faith felt genuine and he remained faithful till the end, you gotta give him that. Still I can't help but dislike him most of the time. That's why he's such a brilliantly written character.

There will be people who won't like what i've explained to you but it is not a spoiler...this episode was the reveal that Jon is the true heir to the iron throne...it just took some people a few episodes to put it all together whereas the reality is that this episode revealed it all.
