- Here Seán sings Poughkeepsie written by the great Johnny B Broderick. The inspiration for this song came about when a sudden blizzard of snow began during a tour in the states some years ago. Seán is also accompanied by the wonderful Fergal Scahill of We Banjo Three, Pat Coyne and Stephen Doherty.
So endearing in these difficult times .. Thank you
Lovely Sean so apt in this January weather
We got on the Northwest at penn station
Struggled with our luggage on the aisle
Both went for the same seat together
That's when I first saw your smile.
Both heading home for Christmas
With a sprinkle of snow on the ground,
You were heading north for Albany
And I was Chicago bound,
As we pulled out of the station
A blizzard of snow had blown in
The train, more like a Zamboni
Doing no more than five and ten.
The conductor passed out blankets
To ease the sharpness of the storm
laughed when we had to share one
Wrapped together to stay warm.
Chorus
We got snow blocked in Poughkeepsie
On the eve of Christmas Eve
With a train full of people
Heading home on Christmas leave.
Two strangers in Poughkeepsie
A snow storm tempted fate
For you i was a Love too early
for me you were a love too late
We talked away the passing hours
The chemistry like glue
I didn't want the snow to melt
Just more borrowed hours with you
The night drew in in Poughkeepsie
And you fell asleep in my embrace
I could see our reflection on the window
And that beautiful smile on your face
Chorus
We got snow blocked in Poughkeepsie
On the eve of Christmas Eve
With a train full of people
Heading home on Christmas leave.
Two strangers in Poughkeepsie
A snow storm tempted fate
For you i was a Love too early
for me you were a love too late
We woke to find us moving
Next stop Albany was the cry
I can still feel the pain on the platform
Of that long kiss goodbye
No parting words were needed
When we finally let go
That Christmas Eve in Poughkeepsie
Two lost hearts in the snow
Love it!
Lovely Sean. Thankyou
