- Purple Heart Plant / Tradescantia pallida is a tender evergreen perennial native to northeast Mexico grown as an ornamental for its striking purple foliage.
They are great for landscape planting and also hanging baskets. The plants are extremely easy to grow. Propagating from stem cuttings is very easy.

I water-rooted some cuttings I brought home, and they were growing, flowering AND pushing roots all at once. These guys are so tough, along with being so beautiful; I love them!

My neighbor and friend here in Germany gave me cuttings from her plant, that was given to her 25 years ago when an elderly woman passed away in our village. I have had my cuttings for 1 year now and they are in need of propagating as the stems have shot up over a foot and are starting to lean. When i was given the cuttings i tried the water method of rooting and lost half of what i had. This time i will try putting straight into the soil like this. Thanks for such an easy straightforward video. I will be moving back to the United states in a year. Can you tell me is there any way i can save cuttung from this plant to take with me. When we ship our household goods, its at sea and transit for atleast 2 months. Would cuttings survive being packed away so i can continue to grow this plant thats over 25years old? There is no telling how long the old woman had it before she passed.
Put them in a small pot like I did, and if possible take move them like that, water only when dry, they will be fine
