Courtney Reed was perfect, her intentional "lack of breath" and "overdone" emotions are just showing how excited and thrilled Jasmine is when she's riding a magic carpet with Aladdin
Are you people kidding me? This girl has a FANTASTIC voice and her interpretation was brilliant. Can't imagine many of you being able to sing half as well of her. Less hate and more love!
I think Courtney Reed (Jasmine) is simply embracing the situation. If you were riding through the clouds on a magic carpet while singing your heart out, chances are you'd feel pretty bewildered, and that emotion would flow into your voice, and that's exactly what she's done here.
Her performance reminds me of a teenage girl's voice when they've never been in love, and they are telling you (the first one, ever) that they love you, and to please don't break their heart. It's a huge responsibility, and everything must be calculated to perfection. A girl's first love is a sacred thing, and must not be taken lightly. It's not a weekend fling, it's a young woman's first foray into a deep, dark forest of intense new emotion... and that's what comes through in her performance, the breathless newness of it all. I think she was wonderful.
I don't really get why some people say that she sang awfully.. When I listen to her voice, I can feel the emotion, the love and that sense of wonder that Jasmine feels during the scene. Who cares if that note isn't as high as the original song? The important thing when you act isn't just "singing", you have to give something, you have to believe in every single word you sing. And I think Courtney did it just perfectly.
As a non-singer I'm going to add, you sing with your heart, not just your voice. I can both act and sing, but only a little, not professionally, and I can't reach the high notes. So, yeah, I *sort of* know what it's like, and I also know what I like. And they don't have to be perfect and they don't have to be opera singers. They just have to be *good*. Saw a Brigadoon several years ago that I cannot forget (not the Broadway one, just our local cultural center one here in Colorado) and their Fiona was lovely and I'm sure she could sing far better than I can but she was probably not the most professional. Their Tommy was *too* professional for my taste. He sang so well it was practically scary (as in a bit daunting if you are trying to sing those songs and you do not realize that they don't have to be sung like that). Turned out though that he could sing better than he could act. He was not a terrible actor but his heart was just not really quite in it enough, or if it was then he knew not how to show it just right, somehow. Their Fiona was the one who absolutely carried the show. Her and a few of the "supporting role" ones. They were great. It was a good show. ^____^
Chiara: I think it is sort of like when people say how they think Vanessa Redgrave "can't sing" just because she can't...sing like Julie Andrews. (See posts at "The Lusty Month of May" video. The one from the Camelot movie.) Please. Obviously *no one* can sing *like Julie Andrews* except for Julie Andrews. So what for pete's sake is their problem? Come on.
And then there are the people who go around RUclips saying that Julie Andrews is "underrated". Please. I love her too but she is *not* underrated, at all, or at least, not usually. People just have to complain about something. Don't they? Sigh.
I saw the original cast & heard this Aladdin & Jasmine sing it. When I heard that this favorite childhood movie of mine was coming to Broadway, I felt like Broadway had came back to life ever since the closing of my all time favorite musical "RENT." God bless Disney for bringing my childhood to life onto the theatre stage.
@@lucianoalonso4389 I take off Mamma Mia off the favorites list. Aladdin Rent and Mamma Mia are all equally awesome. Taking Mamma Mia's place is Hello Dolly
Oh my goodness everyone has to stop comparing this to the original. It's very different from the original but it is unique and beautiful in its own way. So are the voices, Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed. The original and this version are both incredible.
Adam and Courtney are such fabulous performers. Both of them have spectacular voices! And I don't think it's fair to criticize courtney like that. She's portraying A. a Disney princess B. a teenaged girl And C. Complaining that courtney got "too into it" is ridiculous. It proves how emotional and passionate she is about the story. Also keep in mind these people aren't studio artists. they're used to singing in a huge theatre and having to overdo the emotion. That's part of stage acting, every action or emotion has to be somewhat exaggerated for the proper effect. Oh and D. They're trying to be original. They're not gonna sound just like the originals. I mean what's the point? If you wanna hear that version and not something a bit different then watch the movie. Both arrangements are great, but they have to keep it fresh. And as for Adam he's a sweetheart. I love him so much. He portrayes Aladdin's boyish charm so well!
I AGREE WITH YOU!! I always wonder why do peoples criticize this version.. its so nice okay? they're voices are SO AMAZING and FANTASTIC.. it makes my heart flutter and giving me goosebumps for such a really deep voice of Adam and such beautiful and soothing voixe of Courtney.. what's the matter of their voices? maybe the peoples who critisize them are too high in standart.. i'm still confused why is this version critisized..

Everything is better on broadway! Wonderful paced piece, at first I was like 'what up with Aladdin' but if one lets it all play you see the masterful pacing which the performers have set. Never give away your whole performance at the start.
I love the original version but this version makes me cry. It's so beautiful. The orchestra builds so well and I can feel so much emotion in the way they take on this song. It's beautiful ❤️
I know some people don't like it, but remember, they are trying to differentiate from the movie. They aren't trying to replicate it, I know Jasmine does sound a little forced but I think that's just a result of her acting really really excited. I think Aladdin sounds good, they're trying to go for some thing different which I understand
1) stop complaining about Courtney Reed's voice and how the notes are "too high" she's playing a teenaged princess who just got swept off her feet onto a MAGIC CARPET!!! and also i saw this live and courtney was so incredible! she's also been in in the heights sooooo 2) don't complain about adam's pauses in the beginning. he didn't write the music. he's doing his job and following the sheet music. 3) don't compare them to the movie cast. an actors job is to have their own interpretation of the character. theatre wouldn't be fun if everyone was a copy of the original. they're getting paid to be new :)

Same here. I will love to go see this Disney Broadway show in Manhattan, New York City, New York. But goes dark again due to surging COVID-19 cases in New York State.😔
Bruh. I wouldn't have even for one second thought the actress was a bad singer if it weren't for everyone talking about how other people think she's a "bad singer". She's clearly an exceptionally talented singer, she's just acting as well. I thought she was gonna be bad or cringey....but no. She just sounded like a princess singing beautifully.
The beginning honestly sounds like "On My Own" from Les Miserables... I still prefer the Brad Kane and Lea Salonga version, it's just so full of magic I don't think anyone could really compare. Don't get me wrong, but this version is in it's own way great as well.
I liked the movie version more. I’m glad Naomi sang it her own way and didn’t try to imitate Lea because most of the comments are comparing Courtney to Lea
everyone's hating on the voice of jasmine but lets be honest, you are all comparing her to the original voice and that was freaking lea salonga...not exactly a fair comparison. maybe if they hadn't waited so many years lea could've played the role and everyone could get off this girls back.
People are telling others to stop commenting about her voice but honestly I havnt found a single hate comment... only one about the lyrics and the rest are "dont hate on her!!!"
It's just a brief reprise of A Million Miles Away. I'm sure it's not what people asked for, but it does provide a nice link between the songs, almost as though Aladdin can't help but be himself around Jasmine, even if he is in disguise.
I want to see the braodway musical in New York, OMG, the only thing is that, it would be hard to get a oxegen tank on a airplane and bring extras just incase to have it last through the whole musical, but I thought I would like this song until James Monroe Iglehart sung it that it just surprised me cause this is really the first time in African American history I think for a African American to really potray the Genie and take over the role for Robin Williams in the original film, I mean if Robin saw his character up on the broadway stage now, he would be surprised so to James, thank you for granting all of my wishes at becoming the first African American Genie

No one to tell us ""No""
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But now from way up here
It's crystal clear
that now I'm in a
whole new world with you
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
A whole new world
Don't you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath - it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be
A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment gets better
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this
whole new world with you
A whole new world
(A whole new world)
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us ""No""
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment, red letter
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this
whole new world with you
A whole new world
A whole new world
That's where we'll be
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place

The best song of the night 😍 😍 😍 😍 never can I forget the musical in my life
The beginning honestly sounds like "On My Own" from Les Miserables... I still prefer the Brad Kane and Lea Salonga version, it's just so full of magic I don't think anyone could really compare. Don't get me wrong, but this version is in it's own way great as well.
It's not just me! Haha when I heard those first few notes of the song I started singing on my own :-D
emnem57 I know right!
Omg! I was thinking the exact same thing!
same here!!! but....either On My Own or A Whole New World, Lea Salonga is STILL THE BEST!!!!!
Haha, the moment I heard those notes I was like "WHERE HAVE I HEARD THIS?"
I just realized today that I like this version more than the movie version, its more magical for me.
I liked the movie version more. I’m glad Naomi sang it her own way and didn’t try to imitate Lea because most of the comments are comparing Courtney to Lea
This is beyond beautiful like its beautiful BEAUTIFUL. 🧡
Lea Salonga and Courtney Reed just sounds like an angel
I have goosebumps all up my arms
This sounds wonderful and romantic!!!
Love it. Nothing tops the original, but I really do love it.
Oh my god. Courtney's voice is such a wonder. 😍.
i can listen this all day
I cry every time I hear this song. Jasmine is my favorite princess. 🥺
I saw this about a week or two ago, and I LOVED IT❤️
This is gorgeous 💕💕
everyone's hating on the voice of jasmine but lets be honest, you are all comparing her to the original voice and that was freaking lea salonga...not exactly a fair comparison. maybe if they hadn't waited so many years lea could've played the role and everyone could get off this girls back.
i love this song it gives me happy cries
Still, this is going to be the BEST version of all Aladdin remake/interpretation
Respati Dwi agreed!!!!
1:44 chills
At 1:48 she says "snights."
Yeah.. terrible. Someone should have checked that better in editing.
LOL. Just terrible.
HAHAHAHAH omg she does a HAHAHAHH
OMG
It only sounds like that because she’s also taking a breath to sing the rest of the song
People are telling others to stop commenting about her voice but honestly I havnt found a single hate comment... only one about the lyrics and the rest are "dont hate on her!!!"
Beside the opening lyrics, I love this version!
I saw it on Broadway & it made me feel like I was 5 again singing this song
@Luciano Alonso that's great! How was the show? How are the other songs? Is it as good as Mermaid or Mary Poppins?
I have to say I'm quite let down by the start of it. I prefer Aladdin Spectacular start with the heavily orchestrated intro.
It's just a brief reprise of A Million Miles Away. I'm sure it's not what people asked for, but it does provide a nice link between the songs, almost as though Aladdin can't help but be himself around Jasmine, even if he is in disguise.
best version EVER
It was magical when I didn’t see the wires when the carpet flies 🤩
pretty much this song and 'never had a friend like me' r the best song in the history of songs
I will listen to this song until I know the words by heart!!!!!👍👍👍👍
I want to see the braodway musical in New York, OMG, the only thing is that, it would be hard to get a oxegen tank on a airplane and bring extras just incase to have it last through the whole musical, but I thought I would like this song until James Monroe Iglehart sung it that it just surprised me cause this is really the first time in African American history I think for a African American to really potray the Genie and take over the role for Robin Williams in the original film, I mean if Robin saw his character up on the broadway stage now, he would be surprised so to James, thank you for granting all of my wishes at becoming the first African American Genie
I saw it on Broadway & it made me feel like I was 5 again singing this song
Lucky, i'm really jealous at you, I want to go see it
but the problem is is that I have COPD which means it would be hard to get a oxygen tank on a plane and it would be expensive
x'D i hope arabs get to play jasmine and aladdin lol
I want to see the broadway too!!!!
I'd love to see that show
I am seeing the show in March
aDAM jACOBS AND COURTNEY REED YOU ARE SO AMAZING IN THE CAST RECORDING i FEEL TO THIS SONG BECAUSE MY HEART MELTS TO THE SONG i HAVE MY VOICE jUST LIKE YOU
Beautiful
This is so wonderful!!!
I'd love to see this on Broadway!
I don't think it's her singing that's putting people off, it's just different harmonies.
Lia Harlin
Good point
imagine having this kind of love
I always well up listening to this ❤️
Aladdin
You must feel trapped inside these walls
We'll run away, just you and me
Why not escape as evening falls?
Theres a whole world you've yet to see
Jasmine
(Spoken) If I go with you, will it be safe?
Aladdin
(Spoken) Sure...Do you trust me? I
Jasmine
(Spoken) What did you just say?
Aladdin
(Spoken) Do you trust me?
Jasmine
(Spoken) I'm not sure why, but...yes]
Aladdin
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
Jasmine
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Aladdin
Now I'm in a whole new world with you
Jasmine
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
Jasmine
A whole new world
Aladdin
Don't you dare close your eyes
Jasmine
A hundred thousand things to see
Aladdin
Hold your breath, it gets better
Jasmine
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back
To where I used to be
Aladdin
A whole new world
Princess Jasmine
Every turn a surprise
Aladdin
With new horizons to pursue
Jasmine
Every moment gets better
Both
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
~Instrumental Break~
