Maybe I’m wrong, and I’m missing something, but as far as I can tell, nobody is treating the Mets-one of the oldest teams in the league-like they’re the Tigers. It’s just that both teams’ paths were surprising, the Tigers’ much more so, and both fell way behind before catching up (side note: people forget that the Tigers were a fairly popular dark horse pick before the season, while the Mets…weren’t 😆). What’s unusual about NYM is that they “[took] a step back” this year because of all the dead money on their payroll, and filled out their roster with guys on cheap 1-2 year free agent deals (and went young at third base). They were projected to be mediocre, they looked like burnt toast at the end of May, but then they put up the best record in baseball over the subsequent four months to make the postseason.

They’re not, and with all due respect (genuinely), it seems like maybe you’re getting a little bit blinded by resentment. Maybe I’m wrong, and I’m missing something, but as far as I can tell, nobody is treating the Mets-one of the oldest teams in the league-like they’re the Tigers. It’s just that both teams’ paths were surprising, the Tigers’ much more so, and both fell way behind before catching up (side note: people forget that the Tigers were a fairly popular dark horse pick before the season, while the Mets…weren’t 😆). What’s unusual about NYM is that they “[took] a step back” this year because of all the dead money on their payroll, and filled out their roster with guys on cheap 1-2 year free agent deals (and went young at third base). They were projected to be mediocre, they looked like burnt toast at the end of May, but then they put up the best record in baseball over the subsequent four months to make the postseason.
