National League West just got more competitive. We Dodger fans saw how D-Backs crushed Dodgers in round one just two years ago. This is a competitive signing. I'm liking it. Go Dodgers
Giants fan here. Yes it hurts, but I'll be honest I'm used to it. I'd rather check on Blue Jays fans tbh. Also, last thing this team needed is another player with an opt out.
Something I want to add as an O’s fan, we didn’t score runs when Burnes was on the mound. Hearing the DBacks had the #1 offense is big because pitchers don’t like to lose
Yea that's silly, they picked up his 3.5mil option he's here to stay. This will likely be both Barnes and Kershaw's last season together before they ride off to the sunset. After Kershaw retires, there isnt much need for Barnes except to stick around as a coach and good vibes guy. After Barnes is gone, and we'll see if Rushing, Feduccia, or Cartaya will be backup going forward. Hopefully Rushing can be a competent LF too, to be able to get a good number ABs at 2 positions.
Can’t afford to lose him to a rival when he has too much knowledge of pitchers schemes and Dodgers system . Same for Smith which is another reason to give him a long contract besides being top 5 catcher in MLB
As a Dodgers fan, I see Teo as one of the most important and positive pieces throughout that entire organization. the effect that the dude has on the product we see on the field is immense. Baseball is a goddamn GRIND and a mental triathlon. Having a healthy, behind the scenes/clubhouse environment is extremely impactful and important for teams. If there is a player who has a major positive impact in there; gotta do whatever it takes to keep that person around. Luckily the Dodgers understand that and locked him down for the next few years. Im glad it worked out.
100% no doubt. Dodgers love them high injury risk pitchers. Just hoping at least 3 of em survive to the end of the season and we can go bullpen every 4th game.
Im interested to see how the rest of the Diamondbacks offseason goes. Gallen is going to be expiring soon and already have Pfaadt, Ryne Nelson, E-Rod, Merrill, Monty (maybe) & Yilber Diaz who looked promising. It'll be interesting to see who isnt apart of the rotation
pfaadt has showed his potential he defintely took a step back but hes young and we know what hes capable of and i honestly feel solid abount ryne and merrill as starters ryne is getting better and kelly has been pretty consistent. im excited to see what we do with the rest of the off season this team is gonna be fun
They mentioned Brandon Pfaadt. The problem with Pfaadt is he’s absolutely dominant the first 2 times through the order, but he got absolutely shelled the 3rd time through. Pfaadt could become an ace if he can get over his issues the 3rd time through the order.
Dodgers definitely are not done. Kikè potentially could be back and Kershaw said he WILL be back but the 40 man is full now. So we need to make a trade. We have lots of pieces that can go there too. This seems like if there was ever a time for a Luis Robert it might be now. Also yes Austin Barnes isn’t an everyday guy but they keep him because he’s Kershaws guy.
Im starting to get the feeling that Kike will be odd man out. Friedman will just trade for him mid season from his new team, like last year, if the utility role needs filling. Rojas will be getting a good amount of starts against LHP but not too many so as to wear him down. Lux will be used against RHP as much as possible, CT3 will be given a chance to revive his career (his salary is a sunk cost), and Mookie is being moved to the infield. After signing Teo, i dont see any room for Kike.
Austin Barnes became the LAD clubhouse leader after Chase Utley and then Justin Turner were gone. MiggyRo is also in that role now. One of the things about the Dodgers that people miss (perhaps understandably, given the huge names on the roster) is how careful they’ve been to keep clubhouse guys. AJ Ellis, Justin Turner, Chase Utley, Austin Barnes, MiggyRo, even Pujols for one remarkable year. Barnes is also Kershaw’s catcher, so he’s got security of employment second only to Andrew Friedman.
Taxes in Toronto vs NY are so close you can say it's identical. NY also tends to get worse weather than Toronto The Problem is.......Shapiro and Atkins. It's well known now, they are bad at their jobs. Players don't want to play with a management team that incompetence is their main strength
Nobody in the AL are going after Ha-Seong Kim. He's one of the best shortstops left on the market. I'm kinda surprised he's just expected to sign with the Braves because??? Where are the Orioles or Blue Jays?
As a Padres fan I think Preller is up to something. If we were going to more or less run it back I think he would have signed an old catcher and Profar and traded for someone like Nico Hoerner to replace Kim. The rumors are he has been shopping Cease, Arraez, Crone, and Boegarts. I think he is waiting to see what happens with Sasaki and then he is going to try to overhaul the roster.
In my opinion it was the right spot for him and his beautiful family, he already lived there, as well the tax situation, match made in heaven, now if they win a ring? That's just a bonus
Love how Trevor is actually telling people how the taxes work in sports, now it shouldn't be as much of a shock to my fellow Canadians on why nobody wants to play up here, even in the NHL
They already Confirmed Kershaw is coming back later in the year. Barnes is Kershaws catcher also Shohei has been doing his Bullpen sessions with Barnes so he could catch for Shohei too. They like barnes.
Regarding trev’s comment about the dodgers and his question about the backup catcher for the dodgers. We have dalton rushing one of our top prospects in our farm whose main position is catcher. He has been doing a lot of work in the outfield as our starting catcher for the next decade will be will smith but he will definitely be the backup and a great one at that. Also regarding Barnes, as long as kershaw is with us Austin Barnes will be a dodger.
Perdomo is the shortstop until Lawlar can prove he can hit MLB pitching & can stay healthy. Geno will play third . They will bring in a right hand bat for DH .
I’ve wanted the snakes to go after Yandy Diaz from the Rays all offseason. I figured the Naylor trade made another move, particularly with the Rays, impossible (considering the draft pick sent to CLE). But now, after the Burns signing, I can see a deal where the snakes send a left handed hitting OF (Thomas or McCarthy) and a starter (Nelson or Pfaadt) and get Yandy back to be the RH thump and 1B replacement for C-Walk. I will never fail to be impressed by the moves Hazen pulls off. In Hazen I trust.
I know what Trev is saying about the location/family aspect of the Burnes signing, but it's definitely the exception and not the rule of the last decade or two of free agency. The highest dollar is almost entirely all that is chased now. Peripherals only come into effect when the numbers are very close from multiple teams.
They're not sure about their TV contract, or their stadium future. Obviously this helps their team, and it's a good landing spot for Burnes, but I'm wondering how much of this deal was motivated by wanting to show the state that they're there to win and compete in order to increase their odds of getting public funding on repairs to Chase Field or a new Stadium
Burnes and Fried figured to get 5 year/$175M ($35M aav). Burnes got an extra year but also a 2 year opt out. Fried got an extra 3 years/$43M and the Yankees got to spread the aav over 8 years, but really if Fried is a good 5th starter the last 3 years at basically $14M thats fine for the Yankees.
Gallen & kelly are both free agents after next season . Also Mad Bums contract will be off the books too so Dbacks will have extra coin to pay burnes .
Man, I love you guys but Trevor constantly refusing to admit the Dodgers have a market advantage due to their size and the massive population in the area that enabled them to create a higher tier TV deal is getting old. We get it, you're a west coast boy lol. But he knows it's not Angels fans making those statements, and in the past he's claimed there's no difference in market size advantage when talking about teams like the Cardinals (where St Louis' population is something like a whopping 350k). It's okay to admit the Dodgers have a serious financial advantage. 99% of fans accept it and understand that's just the way baseball is. I

I don't see the Dodger going for a catcher they have good catching prospects, I do like Trev's idea of trading for a bullpen arm, also I think outman could be traded he hasn't been on the 40 man almost all last year
No need for a backup catcher for the dodgers, Barnes is loved and will be fine as a backup (can’t hit a lick) and if not Dalton Rushing is a stud who can’t find playing time because of Will Smith.
They didn't let mookie walk they traded him.because he had already turned down a 300 million contract in 2017..sox don't like to give out 300 million$ deals..they made the exception with deverd because they let Xander walk
"Giants have done their work". What are talking about all they did was sign Adames. Watch Snell sign with the Dodgers. Watch Burnes Sign with the DBacks. The 1B market pass them by. The Giants have done absolutely nothing.
