All kidding aside, I’ve been coming to this place and Morro Bay my entire life and I’m 66 now. It can definitely be a party spot because of being allowed to drive on the beach, and in all honesty once or twice I would guess that I was part of The party problem… At least in the 80s. I figure the one star reviews put there by people like me that want the public to sort of ignore the fact that this is such a cool spot… And FWIW, here in California, often times camp hosts are brought in in addition to the Rangers that work there and they are not specifically full-time employees state system. And the truth is, those parks that have them, they can be very very variable!
People who feel "unsafe" in Pismo/Oceano basically should not leave their gated communities. They must be so incredibly sheltered that they'd be afraid of the shining afternoon sun.
@@piperreilly97 You might not read good, I wasn't suggesting there are gated communities in Oceano (although there are a few around 5 cities). I was saying the type of person who would be scared to camp out there must be from a gated community, scared of normal people living their life nearby.

Dude! You’re bringing back core memories for me. My family used to take an annual trip to this campsite every October. The usual spot we got is the corner site next to the lagoon at 13:43. My cousins and I used to dare each other to go down that path after dark while we scared the shit out of each other!
Dude you are hilarious, I lol so many times. I hung out in Pismo for months and loved it. I slept in my car at night and hung out on the beach all day then mingled at night in town back in 2014. Then I stored my car and went to Belize. Road trip of a lifetime.
One of my family members has been employed with the State Park for over 20 years. There is a park across the freeway that my family member frequently complains about. He said they play loud music and are very loud in general but the Park Service has nothing to do with that camp. Oceano Dunes camping area is going to have people who turn into idiots after drinking alcohol so don't have the expectation that it is ever going to be a quiet campground. On holiday weekends it is such a madhouse that my family member has to grocery shop 3 days prior because the campers wipe out Vons so do most of your shopping before you leave or in a city on the way there. My Mother loved the camp area you are at and took my niece and nephew there frequently when they were little.
My MIL hates holiday in the 5 cities area. She basically buys enough food for two weeks around holidays and hibernates in place until it is safe to leave the house again.

Arguments could be made for the Santa Cruz area, but honestly we only went there to forage mushrooms in the spring, so no RWE for comparison.
Lived in arroyo grande all my life and I’m 30. It’s always the pretentious people always putting the place down. “It’s camping” and people are on vacation and life still happens when you are on the edge of a town that has an active train station. If you’re an easygoing person this place is the most chill place to be , if you’re a snob, you’ll feel out of place 💕😬. Plain and simple.
I spent four months from January to April 2024 in a rental house right across from the campsite you're reviewing. It was only $1100 a month, just a few yards from the beach. It was heavenly. Some loud "fireworks" (which were NOT fireworks) on the beach on the weekends but they always stopped by 11:00. There were homeless people but where in the US isn't homelessness a problem? It was affordable and exactly what I needed at the time. I do think it's a well kept secret and public perception is wildly variable depending on expectations and deeply held prejudice.
We used to camp here all the time when I was a kid! We’d go clamming. We’d camp at Oceano. I sure don’t remember those bathrooms being that nice! I think they must’ve been renovated during the Pandemic. When we were adults we’d go to the North campground for family reunions and Father’s Day, etc. The Monarchs are something to behold-you should come back for that! Loved this review, and your sense of humor, so I subscribed.
When Ive gone camping usually the men in groups take turns staying awake until late or early morning and we travel with our guns and knifes incase. A group of people always stay behing in the camp grounds and take turns while the other group go out and get wet and fun. Until the last day when were all packed we all leave together for fun and come back just to drive off. Dont travel without weapons
I live 30 minutes north of Oceana State Beach. We had our family reunion camp out there one year. In one night everybody got something stolen. With the trail that goes along the inlet and our campsite, that is how the thieves came in and out. Big ice, chest, full of food, lanterns, cookstoves, folding chairs, every campsite had something missing. Never went back!! Which is too bad because it truly is beautiful there. 😞
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸 I love Oceano, and grover beach. SLO is the best. You usually need a six months or more reservations. Oceano campground is safe. Bathrooms and Showers are the best I have seen in a California State camp grounds. It the go to. Its a seven hour drive for me. 🌟⭐️🌟 🌟 🌟
Fun fact... Many notable chefs have actually recommended cooking steaks from frozen and as a fellow meat freezer myself, I can vouch for them on the suggestion, They cook perfectly well... or, perfectly rare... or, ...you get the point... on the grill or in the pan.
Its a seasonal problem. When a bunch of campers decend on the park for a holiday weekend. The cleaning can't keep up. Bad behavior abounds, and the camp hosts and rangers get cranky while not being able to keep behavior under control. It's not a site specific problem, but beaches and lakes are bigger draws than other locations.
Ive camped there twice and go back next month no issues. Either people give negative reviews sibpepple dont go there or have overly high expectations of a state campground
I camp in these two campgrounds all the time. Never feel unsafe but there are homeless that cruise thru the campgrounds so I do not leave valuables out or doors unlocked. Oceano campground can get pretty busy and loud late at night but isn't that common these days in most camping spots.
Check out local attractions maybe interact with other campers ask there opinions on the campground ask if they recommend other spots maybe compare 1 star vs 5 star idk I hope your channel grows.
My family has been camping at north beach every year for almost 3 decades, we love it we get several campsites booked the same week, some of my fondest memories I ever had as a kid.
As someone who lives maybe 2 miles from the Oceano campground and is familiar with the area- I know there’s homeless people that chill in the area. Just like the rest of the whole of Grover, Arroyo Grande, and Oceano. Does that keep me from going and fishing the area since it’s all still public access? Absolutely not. My only complaint is that you can’t fish from the bridges 😂 The Pismo campsite is definitely more of a fan favorite for people coming from Bakersfield and Fresno in my experience- since it’s closer to Pismo and almost right on the beach. It definitely has a perfect location for big families and friends to come out and party up the weekend. My reasoning for people that don’t like the noise at these sites.. If you wanted a nice peaceful camping spot away from everybody, why would you choose sites that are located in one of the most popular tourist areas in central CA? Also- Boi!? I know that dude!
Local here 😄 Loved your reviews!! You should come back during monarch season! I live five blocks from the monarch Grove and we can hear the frogs at night, They're hella Loud lol Glad you and your soap survived 😂
Personally, I don't doubt people's experiences. They must have arrived at peak times or on a holiday to encounter so many people. General rule is not to leave your stuff unsecure at all even in a campground. Stuff gets stolen, people abuse the camping, bathrooms get dirty. IT seems you came at a time when school isn't out yet and there are no holidays to bring people in. Sounds like bad timing.
First time visitor & new subscriber to the channel. Thanks for the video ! I suspect that some of the negative reviews were from campers who believed they were entitled to treat the gate attendants or hosts as supplicants. They might be able to get away with that at retail and service businesses but State employees don't have to lay down and endure that sort of crap. You were pleasant and respectful and the woman reciprocated. I sort of selfishly appreciate the bad reviews because they might result in the unpleasant jerks going somewhere else where the staff is expected to bow and scrape before the obnoxious and uncouth class of folks. 😃 PS, keep telling the dad jokes, they're fun !
Nice you are the first one who has shown the location for the north Pismo Eucalyptus grove where the monarchs spend the winter. I happened to come here in the spring vacation and the were everyplace along an area of HWY 1. It was a glorious surprise. Oh one more think 2 stars the worse think in California campgrounds it the drone of honda generators all night long. I have had the rangers till me to nor play my guitar at night. thats fine but you couldn barely hear it 20 ft away because of the sound of generators. Only the sound PCH traffic at pt Magoo/Bloome beech is worse
Super funny and likable guy. How can you not subscribe to his channel? I love the entire central California coast. It’s so beautiful. Thanks for a fun and entertaining post! ✌🏻👍🏻✌🏻
lol, when we were kids, dad would take us to pismo coast village and your grandmother Shirley Karr would stay at that campground because of cost. it looked a lot different though in 1974. i stayed with her once till the passing train felt like it was going to vibrate grandmas RV across the road and into the ocean, plus pismo coast village had an arcade where the cute girls hung out.
I lived near there for many years. I can't speak to the campsites but the nature walk and boardwalk are beautiful. There is a train that runs right past the campground but it doesn't run frequently-probably a couple times a day. It can be windy there. It's a popular beach for ATVs. .
We stayed here last summer. I saw you walk by where we stayed, near that walking/bike path. We felt fairly safe but logically you don't leave your stuff out. I can attest to the trains lol. Not a big deal. I didn't sleep well but it wasn't because I didn't feel safe. Had a great time with the family. Walking to the Butterfly place was cool. Just relax and enjoy yourself. 😊
"I'm gonna walk around, find some ducks cuz that's a pressing issue....." said with utmost sincerity. Bwaa haaa haaa I 💯 love that you are really looking into these 1☆ reviews but keep a sort of tongue-in-cheek overview of things. I've found that honestly, people can really let the smallest things ruin their day. But you legit check it out to see if its in fact, legit. I'm so glad the youtube spirit algos put you in my feed. ✨️💯✨️ You energy is calm and cool. And yes, you do rock the beard. 👍🏼
Thank you so much! I will do my best to get to the bottom of these pressing issues 😂. I’m glad the algorithm suggested it to you. I like to see the best in these places.
I live in grover beach and love it. Grew up here, moved away, came back and so glad i did. If any one camps where he's staying you can walk their to the Monarch Grove between like Nov-Feb or to the Pismo Pier. My kid and I walked their last week and watched humpback whales feed and birds dive down like bombers to feed too. It was miraculous.
Informative video! FYI...(In case no one has commented about this, you do not need to hold the mic in front of your mouth. When you leave the mic on your collar it's very clear and easy to hear).
Another great video, sir. Thanks for the candid review(s). I enjoy them. The one thing I've noticed about reviews of virtually anything is that most people are inclined to leave BAD reviews. I would encourage everyone to leave GOOD reviews when they're satisfied with something. It was cool of you to point out your pleasant surprises.
Those bad reviews were probably during holidays, specifically 7/4! We try to be there every 7/4 just south where your 1st campsite across the lil bridge past the Elks club campsite, i think that's the name. We call it the horseshoe, a great secluded area!
These are funny but go on the weekend or a holiday weekend. Different story. Ever since I stopped camping on holiday weekends there are none of those issues.
You should have driven up the 1 from there and stay at sunset beach camp. I remember as a kid staying at both camps kid. I think its by Watsonville. I also remember eating amazing cinnamon rolls somewhere in that area.
Aloha, I literally used to live across the street from the butterfly park. The Monarch Park used to walk across the street worked overnight and I go sleep in the dunes in the morning. Make me really miss Pismo quite a bit. Thanks for the great video and content good luck on your journey.
I stayed in both sites there last summer, Oceano right next to the bathroom. The only beef I had was everyone practically stepping on me as they went to the bathroom. It made me so cranky, there was a clear path that gave me plenty of privacy but no one followed it and instead just walked right through my campsite. And, it was hard to light my firewood due to the moisture in the air. Cleanest restrooms of any park I’ve been to. Oh! And amazing Mexican food at Chachos!! Last thing: go to Oso Flaco!
I love when my hometown makes it onto a review video. Five cities is great except for housing prices and healthcare provider selection, but that is almost every coastal California area.
As a Santa Maria local bro trust me there's a lot you can do other than going to oceano and Pismo. If you ever want to come back and find some good spots just let me know and I gotchu.
They probably went on a holiday weekend, and yes, there will be partiers, and they never follow the rules about quiet times. But go during week or off season if you want to relax.

That’s a great price for a rental house!
@@karrpoollaneIt was a furnished place that rents to traveling nurses. I wasn’t working while I was there but glad I’m a nurse!
thank you we need to go to these campgrounds. One of our must haves camping - ear plugs.
Amen. I always keep some in my tent.
Awww man. That sucks
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
I love Oceano, and grover beach.
SLO is the best.
You usually need a six months or more reservations.
Oceano campground is safe.
Bathrooms and Showers are the best I have seen in a California State camp grounds. It the go to. Its a seven hour drive for me. 🌟⭐️🌟 🌟 🌟
We stay every year at north beach always wonderful glad you liked it and your channel is great
Thank you so much!
Fun fact...
Many notable chefs have actually recommended cooking steaks from frozen and as a fellow meat freezer myself, I can vouch for them on the suggestion,
They cook perfectly well... or, perfectly rare... or, ...you get the point... on the grill or in the pan.
Ohhh good to know. I probably would have messed it up, especially on my janky grill.
Pismo is too busy for me. We always stay at Morro Strand, Morro Bay.
Same. Morro Strand is our go to place to camp.
I laughed just at the video title as a frequenter knowing exactly which campground this is. Went exactly as expected.
😂
Ive camped there twice and go back next month no issues. Either people give negative reviews sibpepple dont go there or have overly high expectations of a state campground
This is a very clever channel! I was maybe 3 min into your Flagstaff vid and I subbed because it is just so funny and good. Thank you!!
Yay! I’m glad to hear that. Thank you so much for watching
Thanks man. I’m planning on doing that. I think it would be good to interview campers.
My family has been camping at north beach every year for almost 3 decades, we love it we get several campsites booked the same week, some of my fondest memories I ever had as a kid.
I love this!! The complaints about ducks pooping 😂 and lack of butterflies after a known disaster. Thanks for a fun review.
Thank you 🙏
As someone who lives maybe 2 miles from the Oceano campground and is familiar with the area- I know there’s homeless people that chill in the area. Just like the rest of the whole of Grover, Arroyo Grande, and Oceano. Does that keep me from going and fishing the area since it’s all still public access? Absolutely not.
My only complaint is that you can’t fish from the bridges 😂
The Pismo campsite is definitely more of a fan favorite for people coming from Bakersfield and Fresno in my experience- since it’s closer to Pismo and almost right on the beach.
Agreed. Boi is my boy 😂
Local here 😄 Loved your reviews!! You should come back during monarch season! I live five blocks from the monarch Grove and we can hear the frogs at night, They're hella Loud lol Glad you and your soap survived 😂
Can you get rid of the frogs so I can go back?
Thanks for the video, lots of memories of Grover beach and Oceano. Don’t forget to stop at old Juan’s!
Same. I love it over there. Missed out on Old Juan’s this last time but I had it again about 2 months ago
I am really enjoying this series of 1 star camp ground reviews. More please. I love your positive authenticity. Subscribed.
Thank you for saying this and for watching & subscribing. More coming soon 😌
PS, keep telling the dad jokes, they're fun !
I agree. Thanks for watching and subscribing and extra thanks for encouraging the dad jokes! 😂
I used to live in Pismo and I miss it so much. Great video! You are hysterical 😭 great sense of humor. Thank you for the laughs. Following for more!
I used to live there too! I love it. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Your vision of the gargantuan frog- toad was lovely 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸 & eye ballers fish was a one ⭐️ certainly 😮
We always loved camping there when I was younger. It’s all about when you go and the sites you get. It’s a great beach campground
Back in the 50s we used to go there with the trailer during clamming season, have nothing but good memory's.
It’s a beautiful place
✌🏻👍🏻✌🏻
Thanks for the kind words and subscribing. I appreciate it a lotta bit!
lol, when we were kids, dad would take us to pismo coast village and your grandmother Shirley Karr would stay at that campground because of cost. it looked a lot different though in 1974. i stayed with her once till the passing train felt like it was going to vibrate grandmas RV across the road and into the ocean, plus pismo coast village had an arcade where the cute girls hung out.
That’s awesome. RIP Grandma Shirley.
😂😂😂 the 🐸 had me dying. Five star rating for your video
Thank you. The frog had me dying too but not in a good way
I lived near there for many years. I can't speak to the campsites but the nature walk and boardwalk are beautiful. There is a train that runs right past the campground but it doesn't run frequently-probably a couple times a day. It can be windy there. It's a popular beach for ATVs. .
Yeah you can actually hear the train when I’m reading the second review I think.
Great video! Do you have any interest in reviewing San Elijo State Beach campground in Cardiff? It was so bad, we packed up and left at 1am 😂
I do. I’d love to review all of them 😂
I grew up in morro bay and those areas camping has always been a hapoy experience since 1960, sometimes its just your preception, never had problems
Im here for the
Bait soap and
Out of service when lit remarks

😂 thanks for watching and subscribing
Ha! I’m usually out of service when lit, too.
1st time for this channel. LOVE IT. this guy is AWESOME
Excellent video. Love the comments, right on. Go Megan!
Megan rocks!
Morro bay more family oriented, same with Montana deoro, pismo more of a rowdier area with beach access for ATV
Thank you for watching. Glad to hear you didn’t have a horrible experience
"I'm gonna walk around, find some ducks cuz that's a pressing issue....." said with utmost sincerity. Bwaa haaa haaa
I 💯 love that you are really looking into these 1☆ reviews but keep a sort of tongue-in-cheek overview of things.
Thank you 🙏
Watching your hometown being reviewed is absolutely funny too me 😂
Great video! Come do a camp ground review at Gaviota State Park. My wife and I are the Camp Hosts there..
Oh awesome! I’ll check it out.
needed a great laugh today. Thx for your humor!
Thanks for laughing with or at me. I appreciate it. 😊
No early check in is common in California State Parks. Some won't even let you in to wait unless you pay the day use fee.
Dude that’s a cleanest campground bathroom I’ve ever seen!
I agreeeee.
I’ve camped there, north beach and at the KOA Avila. There isn’t a bad campground in the pismo area. I give Oceano 5 stars anyway of the week.
I agree
Those bad reviews were probably during holidays, specifically 7/4! We try to be there every 7/4 just south where your 1st campsite across the lil bridge past the Elks club campsite, i think that's the name. We call it the horseshoe, a great secluded area!
These are funny but go on the weekend or a holiday weekend. Different story. Ever since I stopped camping on holiday weekends there are none of those issues.
Oh yeah. I haven’t camped but I’ve definitely been in pismo for holiday weekends.
A guy who's scared of frogs and turtles though drives a off road jeep and is camping. Sure thing makes a lot of sense 😮
Turtles are great. Frogs and I have a traumatizing past 😂
You should have driven up the 1 from there and stay at sunset beach camp. I remember as a kid staying at both camps kid. I think its by Watsonville. I also remember eating amazing cinnamon rolls somewhere in that area.
Oh yeah! There’s the cinnamon roll place called old west or something. It’s sooo good.
Aloha, I literally used to live across the street from the butterfly park. The Monarch Park used to walk across the street worked overnight and I go sleep in the dunes in the morning. Make me really miss Pismo quite a bit. Thanks for the great video and content good luck on your journey.
I love pismo so much. Thanks for watching
I used to live across the street and the tracks from monarch butterfly give too! I miss it so much!!!
I grew up going to Pismo as a kid in the 1970s... miss those days...
@8:06 "Bohemian Grove sacrificial stage" 😂
Am I wrong 😂??
As a local I am glad to know that my efforts are not being wasted, and the yuppies will no longer be frequenting my Park
Yeah I can see that being a problem. Oso Flacco is beautiful!!!!!
You complain because of moisture in the air? How is that the campground’s fault?
@@edcastillo4456 it’s not! Just saying what my experience was.
Yep, Chachos is the bomb, much better (and inexpensive) compared to Old Juan's at the foot of Pier Ave.
Pismo coast village is just about the best rv camp ground around
"out of service when lit..same" 😂
You get it 😂
I love when my hometown makes it onto a review video. Five cities is great except for housing prices and healthcare provider selection, but that is almost every coastal California area.
😂too funny…💙
I have stayed at this campground and had a great time ❤
It’s a beautiful campground
I like Oceano State Park (in the RV portion) BUT our dog got ticks (yuck!). North Beach is great!! We love it there.
As a Santa Maria local bro trust me there's a lot you can do other than going to oceano and Pismo. If you ever want to come back and find some good spots just let me know and I gotchu.
Thanks brotha.
Best 1 star place!
You are funny lol
They probably went on a holiday weekend, and yes, there will be partiers, and they never follow the rules about quiet times. But go during week or off season if you want to relax.
2nd video of yours im watching as a frequent ca coastal camper.
Pretty funny bro. Good work.
Thank you! And thanks for watching
3:00 that is the weather 90% of the YEAR ! this area has it's high rent but Central Coast Cali has the BEST WEATHER IN THE U.S. !!! possibly the world !!!
