I could seriously watch hours upon hours of these videos. They're so entertaining and your sense of humor is spot on. I like the local restaurant review, but I'm also a huge fan of camping and cooking videos, so mix it up and I'll be a happy boy. Thanks again for a great video.
As a Santa Barbara beach person I suggest a bottle of baby oil to remove the tar. It works great and fast. Don't put kerosene and lighter fluid on your skin!
I love Leo Carillo. A couple things, tar is naturally occurring on the beaches since the area is oil rich, and the camping ground stores will always be expensive. Just leave the camp and go to a regular chain supermarket down the 1.
I like this guy's style. He's proving to everyone that all of the complainers are just what they are... complainers. I've been going there for years with my two boys and friends. Beautiful spots and shade everywhere. The only place where there isn't shade are designed for large campers and consequently large crowds. No, I won't give away the numbers for the best spots You'll just have to come here and figure it out yourself and then come back again. It's called "paying your dues". By the way, you will get squirrels if you leave stuff out. Yes, if you walk to the beach and leave stuff out, the squirrels will attempt to take whatever they can. But that's pretty camping-101 right there. The people who complain probably don't know how to camp. But to be fair yes if you go camping on the 4th of July weekend, you're going to get some noise, lol. I've had some of the best times here and the beach tunnels that are nearby are great.
I’ve stayed there, albeit years ago. I thought it was great. Going to the beach past the bridge, go right for a sandy beach, left for surfing. There has always been tar on SoCal beaches. Oil seeps offshore and floats onshore. It’s natural.
Have none of those reviewers ever been to a SoCal beach? Anywhere there are oil derricks, there is going to be a chance of stepping on tar. A little kerosene (am I dating myself with this one?) or lighter fluid on a rag and it'll be gone. I'm a newer viewer, but I really enjoy your content and I can't wait to see where you go next. :)
Oil derricks doesn’t even matter, except for spills of course. Oil seepage is normal worldwide, and by the time it forms tarballs it’s not super toxic. I wouldn’t eat it as part of a nutritious breakfast every day, however 😅
I lived in Oxnard when I was in the Navy. This brought back some fond memories but I’m an East Coast guy. Love your sense of humor and your camera shots are exceptional. ✌️
Man I live in Oxnard and it’s cool to see these videos haha your close to Lake Casitas honestly a great place to camp at now, water is at 100% capacity

😆 *1? NO WAY, I give this place 5 stars.* I was there in 2024 and it's a fantastic camp site. Close to the beach, beautiful oceanic mural going under the bridge to the coastline, the best two-ply toilet paper I've ever used at a camp site much less any other gov building/etc (I'm not kidding, must be the luxury quality in the gov-supply catalog lol), nice bathrooms and amenities, all the water facets worked, camp rangers were very nice, and I can go on and on. My theory is they keep it super-nice for the camping Malibu folks, but all I can say [again] is the tp 🧻 quality was unreal. hahaha One really interesting thing is we notice a flock of a dozen green tropical birds that live in the area, so that was an unexpected surprise. 🦜 Thanks for your review; enjoyed it. _Keep up the great work and making this content._ ⛺

Exactly tar seeps are very common in Ventura and Santa Barbara County. If they hate tar at Leo Carrillo I shudder to think how they would react in Carpinteria. Tar is only toxic if you eat it. So don't eat it.
Leo's a cool beach. Good summer waves during south swells. I surfed that area mostly County Line for 34 years. Tar can happen anywhere. Some scenes from the movie Point Break were shot here like when Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves fought the Oxnard bully surfers lol. Between here and going south to Topanga beach is the most scenic and beautiful area in So Cal. Pt Dume etc
dude, when you're ready for a definite upgrade, drive up the 101 to the central coast here. wow. wow. so nice. cooler than Malibu too. very nice beaches with no homes on them so you can like you know enjoy the beach and natural scenery, and there's lots and lots of campgrounds if you're car camping. I'm a backpacker but I can suggest many campgrounds for you. I think the best beach oriented camping around here is morro bay state park and further north San Simeon State Park. super clean beaches. super nice. best weather in California....
Leo Carillo is more of a family beach and a chill surf beach. It has a lot of tide pools and the kids love to spend hours walking around and checking out all the sea creatures.
I went there as a kid about 45 years ago. I remember it being just about like that back then too. SoCal beach all pretty much look like that if they didn't import sand. Seriously, they truck that beautiful sand in every year to make them so nice. I also remember a sea cave that is exposed at low tide. 8 year old me was nuts and wanted to see how far back it went. 8 year old me also didn't fully understand what a tide was or how it worked. Getting out was a bit sketch. Great video... first time viewer, new sub!
Awesome! I just started RTT camping on my GX and found your channel a couple of days ago. Love seeing all of the campgrounds we have out here in socal. Keep up the good work!
Another great video! You’ve found a very clever (and useful) premise for your videos. I’ll know what to expect the next time I’m down your way. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
How did I miss this?! I’m three days late to the party! 😮🎉😂 One star for me as a tardy viewer…five stars for another hilarious review! 🤩👏🏼😆 Food, bathrooms, rodents, rocks, tar or no tar, beautiful sunset - you covered it all. Thanks for the laughs! 😁
Great videos, I’ve been binge watching most of them. I like that you don’t drag them on too long, the length is perfect! Do you have a video that reviews all your gear? If not, that would be a good one, just a suggestion. Keep them coming!
i feel like complaining about rocks on the beach is like complaining that there are too many trees in the forest. thats just nature, you don't like it, go to a different beach! nature doesnt care that you want sand. that aside, another great video! i really love these, though $52 still seems ridiculous for a night lol. oh yeah! and i agree with the guy who said mix-em up! i'm a big fan of watching the cooking, but i always love a good local restaurant.
Stayed a week at Sycamore Canyon campground the week of 4 of July a few weeks ago and it was epic as always! Used to camp at Leo Carrillo but the beach is too rocky so been going to sycamore canyon for the past 5 years. We cruise down to Leo Carrillo for the little store they have. Love both campgrounds
We were in #121 a few weeks ago , we even had a coyote around 7pm looking for food . Squirrel s came right up to us . No wires eaten in any of our vehicles. Beach as always …AMAZING! Love the beautiful rocks too. There will be times after a storm ,no rocks ,completely sand . It changes daily . I take a bag and help pu trash . Too many people these days just leave their crap ….sad .
I was there. It's a good campground. The squirrel problem is real . A book was half eaten. Keep your tent closed at all times. A 10 minute walk to the beach. I enjoyed it ! There were big starfish and unique rock formations at the beach !
The oil sludge is natural. There should be a lot more naturally, but the oil companies suck most of it out or have capped the seepage areas. Also, I think a lot of the 1-star reviews are designed to keep others away because it's so hard to get reservations.
Am gonna stay here soon so am doing some intel and stumbled acroas your channel. Love ya Man! You are absolutely hilarious and very entertaining. Thanks for the great content❤
If you are a mountain biker this is like heaven. It does get packed but I’ve ridden their for many years. Lots of shade trees & clean restrooms & showers.
Middle Lion was great. No water though. My gf was gonna come with me and when she got there she immediately made her treck back. 😂❤ I had a great time at this one too as a kid. Where ever you go, you should be bringing extra water just in case.
Just checked it out a couple weeks ago. It didn’t look bad at all. Love there is a pretty large area behind your vehicle that you can setup canopies or whatever . Just beware, there are a couple sites that DONT offer shade and some area’s behind your vehicle are just a hill. You can google earth the whole campground. :)
Love those drone shots over the water. They look like butterflies with their colorful sails. Glad the squirrels didn't eat your wires.... Smooches back 'atcha, lol.
SoCal beaches have tar from natural seeps. Olive oil works great to remove it. Or just leave it alone and walk around the beach. Pretty soon you'll have a new pair of huaraches 🤣
Use to mountain bike and surf here. There is a fire road / single track to the top of the mountain with a great view. Surf is good with right swell direction. Along with crowds. California has a good amount of rocky points. This was 25 years ago, so might have changed? Oregon coast has better campgrounds and 20% cheaper. Along with scenery that compares to Big Sur area!
My favorite park! I was biting my nails the whole time, hoping you'd like it. It can get rowdy, but in the best way. One time, a dude was practicing his guitar licks in the middle of the day, amp and all. It was annoying/adorable because he wasn't that great at the guitar. My only beef is the park is booked out months in advance, and I KNOW some folks no show, and sites are sitting empty. Did you see empty spots while you were there? I want to go for my birthday next week, so I keep checking, but nothing so far.
Haha I love you park. It was beautiful. I saw a few empty spots during my time there but it’s also hard to tell who had just left and who’s coming later in the day. I did feel like I was lucky to get a spot.
We’ve been camping there for 30 years i’ve never had a problem with squirrels. It’s an awesome campground. Great beach out front if you take the road underneath PCH and go south big long sand beach break great hike to the right with great views. Will be there in two weeks.
😂😂got this recommended while out here at Leo Carrillo Fun fact: Leo Carrillo is the second cleanest beach in southern California It’s also a great place to forage for sea urchins during low tide in late autumn
Sycamores are the most cooling trees, I have noticed in CA... Also seems like persons camping in public places where they should not be camping, causing trouble. Then watching mesmerizing videos of persons having their best day, doing some kind of kite surfing.
We used to stay there all the time, we hope to return again soon. I think we even stayed in your exact spot. I will say on one of our last stays, some people partied at 1am and were lighting off fireworks, you've been there think how dangerous that is. We have not returned since.
I was in the spot right across from yours a few weeks ago. If any complaint, more like a warning- there was a bee hive in one of the trees. Other than that, it was a pretty good spot.
@@karrpoollane no flag, lol. But yeah, basically I was parked right across from your spot. Pretty nice grounds over there. For sure crowded, but no annoying neighbors!
Jordan, love your channel! When my husband and I lived in LA we loved to camp and we went looked at a campground in Ventura. It was a state campground. It was disgusting. I don’t know if you’ve already been there or not. It was bad though.
You’re spending $50 per night?! The nomad movement suggests adding lights (motion sensored) under their hoods at night. Thank you for taking this into your own hands! Bless you! Yes for local food suggestions!
I grew up camping and surfing at Leo Carrillo. I was probably a contributor to some of the 1 star reviews, me and the boys would party/drink all night. I can confirm that the Rangers will shut it down and if you get multiple complaints they will kick you out.
We go there several times a year to walk on the beach and was there a few weeks ago. All 4 of use had tar on the bottom of our shoes after walking on the beach. Does not happen every time, but happens at all the beaches from there to well north of Santa Barbara. May try camping there with a small motorhome.
I live in Northern San Diego. That beach is packed for many reasons. Mostly a family park for the most park and not perfect but only those with unrealistic expectations would complain.
Those are all native plants. Pretty cool. The tar is natural too. Lots of beaches in S California have asphaltum deposits. Indians used it. Baby oil cleans up ashpaltum. Dish soap is not what yu want. ALso, Gidget was filmed there.
Blows my mind to hear prices and having to pay for showers. I live in southwest Missouri and $5- $20 a night depending on how nice of a spot you want. Showers are free at every campground I've ever stayed at. Most of our campgrounds though don't have a private parking space. Either a parking lot and then tent area or you pull up on the ground by your tent lol. I guess being on the beach or by the ocean definitely affects cost, as well as being on the west coast lol.
The parking is definitely a west coast thing, I don't think I've ever encountered a campground that didn't have a designated parking spot for each site in California.
I feel like going during the week definitely makes it easier for the grounds to be their best, but not necessarily representing of what most people experience would be since almost eberyone is a weekend visitor.
Stayed here for years! Was just there as recently as last month with a large group. Squirrels. Why would you keep your car windows open? Never had a single problem. The beach caves are amazing. You don’t ever go across PCH because there is an underground tunnel. Dog beach one side and tide pools on the other.
Definitely! It has its fair share of bad reviews, but I think it’s pretty nice. They have yurts there 🛖 You can rent them or just camp out. On holidays sometimes it attracts a lot of riff riff out from LA. Most of the times I have went it was pretty chill. I want to go rowing there next time!
@@christaq3528I second Cachuma! Been a handful of times, nice when the lake is full. Beautiful spot for taking the family! San Ynez, Los Olivos or Solvang for local food spots but avoid going around holidays as it gets very touristy and traffic-y on Mission/246 (main road in & out). Check out Copenhagen Sausage & beer garden 👍🏽

It's Malibu... You already know the locals are giving bad reviews cause they don't want people to go LOL
Mine too! I’m not surprised by the comments - people are wild!

I use sunscreen to get it off
Paint thinner works well

Leo Carrillo, the actor, was a big favorite of my generation. You'd often hear us kids playing, saying "Ho ho ho Pancho!", "Ho ho ho Cisco!"
OMG! Love it and your sense of humor. It really makes the videos. Keep it up! ❤
I appreciate that! Means the world to me. I’ll keep it up! 🤘🏾

Ok here's the context and backstory. ANY beach with both camping and a decent surf break is gonna get flooded with locals and mobile surfers claiming it's a cesspool of chit and more chit and one star reviews claiming they'd make it a zero star review if they could.
Best campground reviews ever! I want to sell my trailer and go 1 star!!!😂😂
Can’t beat these 1 star campgrounds
😂😂got this recommended while out here at Leo Carrillo
Fun fact: Leo Carrillo is the second cleanest beach in southern California
It’s also a great place to forage for sea urchins during low tide in late autumn
If its so bad there wouldn't be a long wait list for camping sites. Leo carrillo is an amazing family campsite.
I agree ☝️
those fish tacos looked fantastic, I will definitely go check that spot out
They were so good. I’m still upset I left one in a to go box when I left.
Hey, I camped at 102 last time I was there like 5 years ago. Camp Spot cousins
Letsss goooo! Thanks for leaving it in good shape. 😌
Yep..102 ain't so bad. Camped there before
I'm good with the local food reviews! I watch all sorts of food reviews channels.
Sycamores are the most cooling trees, I have noticed in CA... Also seems like persons camping in public places where they should not be camping, causing trouble.
Then watching mesmerizing videos of persons having their best day, doing some kind of kite surfing.
Glad you got permission to fly the drone. They wouldn't let me. Nice shots
We used to stay there all the time, we hope to return again soon. I think we even stayed in your exact spot. I will say on one of our last stays, some people partied at 1am and were lighting off fireworks, you've been there think how dangerous that is. We have not returned since.
Fun facts: they filmed the original Point Break and Karate Kid at LC beach and 90210, and lots of other movies. Very popular movie pic spot
Woah, that is a fun fact. There was a film crew when I was there filming some famous artist that was visiting from Japan.
its one of my favorite campground in Southern LA☺️ never had an issue
It’s so nice!
@@karrpoollane but i like el capitan more. you should make a review😄😄😆
I was in the spot right across from yours a few weeks ago. If any complaint, more like a warning- there was a bee hive in one of the trees. Other than that, it was a pretty good spot.
Oh no way! Glad the bees didn’t seem to be swarming everyone. Did you have a 🇯🇲 flag up at your spot?
@@karrpoollane no flag, lol. But yeah, basically I was parked right across from your spot.
Pretty nice grounds over there. For sure crowded, but no annoying neighbors!
Jordan, love your channel! When my husband and I lived in LA we loved to camp and we went looked at a campground in Ventura. It was a state campground. It was disgusting. I don’t know if you’ve already been there or not. It was bad though.
I haven’t been there. I love Ventura so I’d be glad to check it out.
That campground used to be nice also, in the 90's .Haven't been since.
You’re spending $50 per night?! The nomad movement suggests adding lights (motion sensored) under their hoods at night. Thank you for taking this into your own hands! Bless you! Yes for local food suggestions!
Yeah, insane price right? Oh that’s smart with the lights. Thanks for watching and for the input.
I grew up camping and surfing at Leo Carrillo. I was probably a contributor to some of the 1 star reviews, me and the boys would party/drink all night. I can confirm that the Rangers will shut it down and if you get multiple complaints they will kick you out.
Haha no way 😂. I appreciate the honesty. Seems like a beautiful place to party and get kicked out of.
The rangers at night told my group we could walk to the beach if we wanted to keep drinking and partying
Great video!!
Oh sweet. Good to knows thank you 🙏
Leo Carrillo is where they filmed the beach scene from the Karate Kid! I did a filming locations video on my channel there!
Spent many summers at that campground and a few others in the 70s:)
New subscriber here.... Love the 1 star reviews series
Super jealous of those prices. But yeah, west coast prices are wild.
Palmolive! Just sponsor this guy already!
Stayed here for years! Was just there as recently as last month with a large group. Squirrels. Why would you keep your car windows open? Never had a single problem. The beach caves are amazing. You don’t ever go across PCH because there is an underground tunnel. Dog beach one side and tide pools on the other.
They named a state park after one of my favorite actors? "OH Cisco"!
Usto go camping here alot years ago great place
Hi Jordan. New sub here. I am from L.A. Love your videos and your sense of humor. Have you done lake Cachuma yet?
Hi Christa! Thanks for subbing. I appreciate it. I have not. Is it one I should check out?
