I don't really appreciate excusing bad practices just because someone else can do it, or it's happening anyway but with extra steps. The easier it is , the more accessible something is, the more it becomes a baseline, the more people will adopt it. This add-on is a good example for why add-ons in multiplayer/competitive games are almost always banned/disabled.
"The future is here" is also a terrible excuse/reason because it is mainly used to deflect from the wider context and handwaving away responsibility.
Ultimately, though, the ball is in blizzard's court, and if they don't take action, it's their own fault for whatever happens.
I mean people made the same doom and gloom claims about damage meters. Look where we are now. Literally everyone has some damage meter mod. What Xaryu said about easier access to information is true: it'll get more and more embedded in our lives and also our games. People are more and more used to instant access of information, and technology is just delivering what people want. It's also not entirely as you say "deflect responsibility". By making everyone's performance "transparent" you're removing friction in raid invite filtering. It's going to make some people happy, and some people angry, but it's not going to fundamentally change how people play the game. For example, even with damage meter being ubiquitous, many raids still don't use it to judge people's performance to the point of alienating them. It's up to the people participating the raid to decide how much they care, and if they really do care, no amount of friction will stop them from caring. In fact, I'd say that damage meters has reduced a lot of bickering about "who stood in the fire" type finger pointing, because you can actually check to see the facts. Raid logging has done the same more or less, it's made people more responsible to own up their mistakes than if it didn't exist. In fact, people in general have improved their raid performances hugely with the help of raid logging, and it's made raiding a much more pleasant experience for a much larger section of the community. Of course you can always focus on the toxicity that came along with it, but that's just myopic and extremely selective bias.

@@xfKYZacTri Not gonna work technically. What are you going to do? If you limit number of addons, people will just pack multiple addons into one. If you limit actual API calls, it'd be extremely unfair to some addons that polls data more frequently, and overly allowing for potentially toxic addons that poll very casually. If you limit based on size, it'll unfairly punish well made complicated addons over simplistic amateurish ones. Besides, even if you could somehow devise an extremely fair and robust measure to "limit" amount of addon use, it still doesn't solve the issue of people using the most popular ones for toxic reasons. Because, in the end, it's people who are being toxic, not the addons.
The idea that people just need to get better if they want to participate ignores the fact that they are talking about a game. Its recreational - too many players treat it like a job. Like they have a wow career, with a cv and a resume
This is a paid addon. It breaks ToS. It should absolutely be removed. The argument of convenience for not having to alt tab out is such a poor argument when you know that the vast majority of users will use it to gatekeep the community. If an addon promotes gatekeeping then it should absolutely be removed, especially when it clearly breaks the ToS of the game.

Blizzard doesn't care. Only takes a min or so of looking around to know that there have been paid addons for YEARS. Take the Zygor leveling addon and others like it, as an example - all paid addons. And not once have Blizzard banned people for using it or done anything to stop those addons from existing even though it is breaking ToS. This will be no different.
We need to stop having these ridiculous expectations for Blizzard to do the right or sensible thing these days. All they care about is money.

Everyone who says gatekeeping is ruining SoD. Last night I was in ST with a frost mage doing 50-70 dps on Eranikus and he was dying early almost every pull. We ended up not clearing. Not saying that was the only reason but unironically if he was a better player alone we killed cuz we got him to sub 5% and sub 3% multiple pulls. Oh and I almost forgot the hunter doing like 70-90 dps with half of that coming from his pet. There is a reason things like logs exist.
People forget that there are worse players than even the worse players they know and they flock when the gate opens up. I remember seeing a Hunter on XT HM in WOTLKC hitting the boss in melee and half of his gear being in blues with one green. Raid leader should have kicked him there but it was mid-late Ulduar and we needed a couple people to do any dps to flesh out the raid team to 25

W. This gives gray parsers easier opportunities to band together to give each other the experience that they bring with them.
The issue with parses in classic is that World Buffs adds way too much variance.

Also I’ve been pretty apathetic getting world buffs, did it last week and went from avg 60-70 to avg 93 without DMF on my war.
I like the potion for st, but would be happier if world buffs were irrelevant. I don’t wanna get griefed outside goldshire for an hour to boon a buff that determines my skill as a player. 🤷🏻
Log, as a raid tool, is fantastic - problem with it is that people usually, like 95+% of the time, wont take the time and effort that it needs to be accurate. You can evaluate the skill (not perfectly, but close enough) of a player through it, but if you only check the big parse number you are just not using it like you should. Logs can also be rigged, remember that.
I am all inclusive. Although i only am playing hc classic. Ill take a low level or somebody who might not be agreeable. Being willing to work with people you don't prefer builds character
I use addons but I would pay an extra dollar a month for Blizzard to outright ban all addons. I use addons because the game is basically mandatory for them but I think the game and the ingame culture would drastically improve with addons being bannable.

I've been playing since vanilla, I enjoy questing, I make enough toons to cover all professions. With RL I play sporadically and don't have time to do raids, so I just solo quest to get to max level on the toons. But these add-ons just make it so when I finally try to go to a raid, I'd probably won't get invited. So casual players like me will say oh screw it, I'll go play something else since I can't get a raid invite due to ppl relying on addon. I notice this in LFM incursions groups. The poster would say must have addon & other requirements. And BTW, I also notice every guild where I have each of my toons in seems to have a huge drop in players online. One guild even has a GMOTD saying I'm putting the guild in hibernation. It's been fun.
Get a guild, getting an invite to a pug is a privilege that you need to earn, why would someone choose you with no parses or bad parses over someone who will perform better?
basically every group lead is looking you up on wcl before sending the invite anyways this rly doesnt change anything at all but save a few clicks

Literally had to 17 man last 2 bosses the 2nd lockout with my guild because we couldn't find 2 warm bodies to fill the raid

A guildie said it costs $25/mo. Insanity 😂 The only people this screwed is the casual/new players. They will NEVER get into pugs. My first raid with my guild I parsed all gray except for 2 greens. 3 weeks later I parse all 95+... it took time to learn my character, rotations, and most importantly the boss fights. You can't learn the fights well if you can't get into raids in the first place... You can watch YT videos, but that can't substitute for actual experience. Not to mention, how can you get better parses if you can't get into raids? It's a catch 22
20man raiding is the exact same as retail mythic raiding. It doesn't work on retail raiding. Having a mandatory 20 is not a good idea. It requires a roster of 22-24 and each week you're forced to bench people or go without 20. Flex raiding is the solution

raiders prevent other people raid, that's why. Number of raids drop. thanks to their obsession for parses.
When I use logs to make groups it doesn't mean I'll only invite top parsers, but I will try and save at least a few slots for some pumpers. But I know that's not the case with more people.
our 10man merged with another 10man now we are about 6 from one 3 from other and just replacing new people every week, everyone dipping so fast

I think there is a place for 20man AND 10man content. I would love to see single boss encounters in giant rooms like onyxia stay at 40man, with MC at 20man, and ZG at 10man as an example.
The sad part is all the people that flocked to classic because it wasnt retail are partaking in all the same behaviours that made retail what it is today. Its a constant reminder the landscape of gaming has changed. Now I know not all players advocate this but when it seeps in the early adopters take it and boy oh boy does the vast majority follow suit REAL damn quick....
Parsing score is reliant on your teamates heavily, anyone that thinks a parse score considers you good is braindead lmao

back in the day when they didnt exclude parses due to specific boss mechanics i parsed orange on the firelands bird boss... it was like the only time i got to pick up the feathers and obviously with that insane damage boost i got big dps. :D
So even boss mechanics affect parses, but only a select few are allowed to do those mechanics since the boss design doesnt allow everyone.
Always played in a guild myself so noone cared about parsing. Ultimately the only thing that matters is if you kill the boss or not. Parsing is equal to speedrunning a game, its a competitive system in a non-competitive game. Should be opt-in but the community makes it mandatory because of their egos.
I would guess usually people who dont have the skill to be successfull in pvp are the ones who make parsing such a big deal because its significantly easier as the bosses never change, like players do in pvp. Bosses only get easier with time and gear, pvp doesnt... atleast not higher end pvp.
World Buffs are annoying af to worry about. We are already so buffed up in SOD we don’t really need them anyway.

By the way since it's the backbone, if they introduce it to endgame this season it will literally kill it. 40 man raiding is a complete relic no one wants except the rose tinted players who never, and STILL don't want to actually bother raid leading and forming the 40 man themselves.

To combine the topics of the add on and bringing up why sod raiding is lower. I would love to do the raid but I am unable to get in any because I don't have any logs because I can't get in a raid to get logs and this addon just enforces that even more and it's more accessible to actually gate keep people out. I feel like the way raiding works with wow logs in general is that job requires 5 years of experience but you need the job for experience.
Sod needs 40mans. None will care about parses when just getting full group is difficult
7:06 You need good gear to parse well so that's not true at all. There's also luck involved with things like trinket procs and not getting targeted by mechanics. Sometimes you also need to ignore mechanics or play degenerately to parse very well which means having a group to back you up. The duration of a fight matters a lot which is also group dependent. Parses don't show if you're capable of interrupting or prioritizing adds. This is a terrible idea.
I feel the problem with SoD is the level bands - damn would it be nice if we could just do stuff. Looking forward to the next seasonal iteration, hopefully without level bands

When SoD was announced and we found out that raiding would be 10 man this gave my group of friends the ability to raid “Classic” together that didn’t require 10/30 other people. Our IRL group could hangout outside and also raid at night and it gave us that back in the day feels.
The swap to 20man kind ruined that now we’re forced to rely on 10 other people to log on at our raid times or be forced to put their spot. Hoping lvl 60 brings more 10 man content..
The other great game by Blizzard (Diablo 4) doesn't have damage parse logs at all. You can't open chat and see how much dmg you stuff does there. Unironically this should this should be applied to WoW

Bro the addon literally just does what everyone already does. Gnomeregan showed that no matter how much classic players wanna be classic they still cannot face the fact that they are retailers through and through all of them. This is so dumb because the majority already looks at logs and cares about performance. If you really wanna RP then retail RP is where the game is actually chill and people just enjoy the game. People already check eachother logs before PuGs. This is just proof that Classic players act like they are Classic players but they have the same disease that Retailers have, and people just want to gatekeep as it is in their blood and nature.

Parsing, raid/curve achievements, gearscore are so bad for the game, where are the days that you just took people, explained tactics and helped people out when they failed, give them pointers, tips etc.
Nowadays everything has to be fast, without wipes or you get kicked.
Retail wow players should stay away, far away from classic versions of the game.
I miss the day where high deeps was well okay, but could you kite, cc properly, watch your aggro and still have good DPS? that was skill, learning a rotation, get bis gear and run like a maniac is not skill.
Nowadays as a tank you can not loose aggro, Braindead dps have no clue about cc, kiting etc.
Yes logging is fine if you as a RL actually read the logs correctly. Do we (as a group) do enough damage to kill the boss, more is really not needed, which mechanics do we fail at, why does player X keep dying, what shit is he standing in, Is the healing output high enough to complete the fight, etc, READ the complete log not the amount of DPS of a certain player.
Raiders will get extinct at some point because most players will not even get a chance to learn fights, mechanics or raiding in general.
So if you use this add-on the only thing it tells me is that you want to get carried heavily!!! Time is not an excuse it is a game you should enjoy progression 56 wipes but hey we got him 2% lower, thats raiding not, I am out we wiped twice now.
So if you want to raid and have an Alliance toon on Mirage Raceway EU, contact an Officer of Prestige we don't parse, we explain fights and we try to make people better.
Luckily my guild is the same way. I can parse high, but really dont't try to. Same with everyone else in my guild. A clear is a clear. We laugh at people who make their whole identity around their parse. Those very same people are the ones without kids, a wife, work at walmart, and live at their parents house.
I'm willing to bet blizz will take action against this type of addon, if this gets widespread use it will make it very hard for casual and below average parsing players to find a group and eventually lead them to quit the game

i mean the most guys look up the loggs on another Monitor anyways, and im not wiling to use 100g of Consumes and try to do my best when there is someone afk all the Time with false runes that do dmg like he is Level 25 still. And there are allot of People who Cleared the Raid but didnt do Shit like Zero Consumes, Zero Dispells, Zero movement and Dead at every Fight. I personaly Raidet when i was Young and i now Work every day too, but a real WoW Player and i dont mean these Retail log in Dungeonbrowser Andys, loves to Progress and if it takes Time it takes Time thats why u go Raiding. And if u know the Tactics and u Cleared 1-2 Times u dont want to Start over again and Need 4 Hours to clear just because there are some Boomers who log in every 2 Weeks and deside they want to Raid today. I Raid to show the best of Me, for the excitement and for the Archievment to say we finaly did it and ofc for the Gear to performe even better

i did start paly sod becus of the 10 man raids, and now i play only 10% of the time buecus i dont pug with 20 man and the guild raids then im at workl all is saved the i have time to raid. and it summer in Sweden ppl will play less then.
"make questing slower" reading the quests makes leveling not just about 2 times slower, but also more engaging and meaningful. thats literally how you supposed to play the game. it's already IN the game.
just watched a streamer level in cata pre patch who was wearing heirlooms, rushing at breakneck speed with a tunnel vision, not reading any quests, no professions, not even taking roads just taking shortcuts across the zones, spamming dungeons, and complaing the ENTIRE TIME how fast the leveling is. like no shit?? and now all the minmaxing and gatekeeping in SoD that supposed to be casual? the community is the problem

They literally gave everyone double exp and introduced a new system that broke leveling in multiple different ways for phase 3. I appreciate the SoD devs a lot, but lets not lick their boots too much here. They fucked up the P3 leveling experience really badly.

This has to be banned. My logs are pretty good but this will create only bad things in terms of communication within the game.

Another thing is that logs don't necessarily say how good someone is. There are people who got blue logs because they play with "just ok" people but when they swap to a guild or group that is better their logs improve as well due to kill-timers going down so your CDs have a much higher up-time in terms of combat-time.

I would love to see the logs of these people complaining about being gatekeeped in SOD raids. Especially for DPS classes. I mean we ran 25 man raids in TBC and wrath classic, yet I hear a bunch of people complaining about a 20 man raid. There is no winning with some people. I miss the days when people just played the game to have fun. As a person who can't use my right hand like I use to do to finger amputations, I am not going to be pushing up the numbers people who live on logs. Another reason why I help when I can and am not wanted in group content.
My favorite game was Ever Quest, because it had a community Love 72-man raids. World of Warcraft lacks community now with all the cross-server, multiple game versions running and refusing to consolidate servers. Today's gamer just wants insta-gratification.
Yall listen: if you hate parse culture, join a casual guild. It’s easy. Every guild is struggling to have 100% of their rosters log on. Just join a group of like minded people. If you subject yourself to LFG, then you subject yourselves to the rules of LFG.
Where does it say in LFG that logs are a requirement for LFG?
This addon is against the TOS, being a paid addon. YES, Restedxp and Zygor are also against ToS.
Difference there is that with RXP and Zygor you don’t actually pay for the addon but for the guides. The addon (at least the RXP one, not completely sure about Zygor’s, but it used to be the same) is free to download and used and make your own guides with it

It is past time to remove all addons. Accessibility addons should be added into the core game. Bezos is successful because profit drives the bottom line. Blizz can make more money improving the quality for all instead of just parsers. Ditch the addons. Parsing is more akin to work than play.
Get rid of logs completely first. Then addons. Logs ruin the end game for casuals and new players. Which drives them away, and all their is left are no-lifers, and the sweaties just jack themselves off by showing the same parse everyone else has because theirs no bad/ok players left to show off to.
Logs are stupid in the first place they dont measure your individual ability to play your class they measure your entire groups ability to get all the buffs you can and not wipe
If there really is that many people who hate parse culture then why don’t they all group together and roll the dice on how many if anyone knows what to do in the content and two if they’re even equip to do the content then go ahead but at the same time someone in all greens and no logs will never have a single chance to get an invite from the “parse culture haters” but your classic experience is about the culture right?

the problem is i played with people with high parses and didnt clear ST and played with green/gray parser and cleared ST easy. my guild raid grp is parsen greens and some gray we got 1-3 with good parses but we clear it in 1-1.30h so it says not allot about we player. our raidlead parses gray because hes watching everthing and makes callouts so hes not really konzentrating on his rotation.

All live service games need a fresh influx of new players constantly to stay healthy, if you’re cool with creating tools to turn those people away, don’t be surprised when at some point in the future, you don’t have anybody left to play with.

Now you can gauge a player's entire worth just by hovering your mouse over their plate so you can be even more efficient in gatekeeping where instead of doing a whole ass interview over tells, you can just hover your mouse over them, call them trash and move on! The issue with the WCL addon has nothing to do with raiding, and everything to do with EVERYTHING ELSE. If I run into a dude doing the same quest as me in the open world, he doesn't need to know my parse. If a gal is forming a BRD run, she doesn't need to know my parse. And neither of these people would have any reason to look it up. With the addon, they will immediately have that information regardless.
