Coheed is my favorite band and every time a new album drops I am underwhelmed. After a couple listens every song turns into a banger. Just gotta let it marinate.
How do you feel about The Color Before the Sun? I've never given it a full listen but most fans seem to not like it.
I've always liked Coheed's instrumentals. Claudio's voice was something that I needed to get used to though.
@@keyofweird I didn't like it at first. After a little while it grew on me. I think the whole vibe changed because it's the only one that isn't a concept album, but I think it's amazing.
@@keyofweird I've been reflecting on my response ever since I sent it, mostly today at work. I've come to conclusion that each individual member of the band does their job masterfully. But the special sauce is hidden in the lyrics, choruses, hooks, and tiny subtleties like Josh's quick gallops for no reason. It takes me a couple listens to be able to put it all together. Idk I may not even make sense. Love your stuff though man! Keep on keepin' on
That makes complete sense. I would also add the motifs that get reused throughout the albums. We all know *that* Coheed melody because of how often it gets used. Good Apollo Vol 1 has a lot of that too. Riffs get introduced in one song then come back around in another.
This new album is an interesting listen so far, hearing this song I was like..damn this is kind of a new sound for them and it’s growing on me

It's got a bit of that older Coheed energy that I enjoy. I'm stoked to listen to the rest of the album.
Prog metal for warped tour kids. Love this band. This song reminds me of their 3rd and 4th album.
That is, quite literally, one of the best ways to describe Coheed. I will be using this from now on and will probably end up in my review. You are an absolute genius.
Is the dynamic of the song, the tempo signature of classic Coheed 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2 _ 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2 what makes it so enjoyable at first hearing, it feels Coheed.
Hey man, love the detailed and thoughtful reaction - so I wouldn't say I was hard on you last time, but I did try to recommend giving their latest stuff another go (I compared it to listening to A Favor House Atlantic but never hearing any other song, like 21:13) SO, hey super commendable! And I agree with you that I think this album is going to be less edgy, less prog and more punk/pop (he all but said that on Twitch). If you want good old Coheed prog, I'd say at least 50% of Unheavenly Creatures (their last album) fits the bill, but the pop songs on that album fell flat for me, whereas all four of these new singles are so incredibly catchy (like you said, it's easy ear candy) and his voice is spot on (and again you said if you're mostly into vocals, like I am, then that makes sense). Anyway, look forward to hearing that review from someone not licking their... egos.

I appreciate you looking forward to the review. I had a lot of fun with my last one and I plan on maybe even diving a bit into the idea of nostalgia and musicians changing their sound with this next one. I fully plan on listening to every Coheed album, possibly all in one sitting if I can find the time in an attempt to check myself. I don't think I'll be licking any egos but if Claudio shows up, I'm definitely sucking his dick.

To be fair, I was coming off of listening to The Liar's Club so it was a step in a better direction, even I still thought it was meh.

That’s true, almost every band has weak singles sometimes, I’ve held off a bit on this album because I wasn’t feeling the sound but it’s growing on me hard, the only band that has never had a single bad tune in my opinion (at least outside of their first album) is Dance Gavin Dance. Between DGD and CandC they are my two favorite bands ever, I think self titled onwards DGD never flopped on a song.
You know.... I've been a big fan of theirs since i first heard them like 21 years ago.
That being said.... With a few exceptions here and there i haven't really been able to get into their newer stuff.... There are a few standout tracks but a lot i just don't vibe with

I agree that their proggier stuff is their best, fingers crossed we still get long song structures and leitmotifs in the new album, rather than just the pop stuff.

From what others are telling me, there's at least one single that's on the proggier side so I'm really hoping the poppier songs are more like reprieves in between the onslaught of 12 minute epics but I'll be happy enough knowing that Coheed is still just doing their thing and having fun.

@@keyofweird Their previous album Vaxis I did have a few lengthy epics, but overall I am still kinda half and half on that album, lots of great stuff but also some stuff I don't feel strongly for, hopefully it all comes together in this new one.
I saw in an interview he said that’s his song writing is better so he doesn’t have to write long songs as much to get his point across, but we can hope! The willing well is some of their best.
I find it odd if he called it "better." Better implies that the long songs were too long but I've been to enough Coheed shows to know that IKSoSE: 3 makes everyone lose their fucking minds. It's why, even to this day, it still gets played at shows.

I told you bro The Liars Club is just a weak single the first two singles were awesome but yeah either comatose or the second single “Rise Nianasha” were my favorite. I’m glad you put your opinion out even though people (myself in included 😂) think you’re being too harsh cause you miss the nostalgia. Keep up the good work.

LOL I totally agreed with you that I could've caught the wrong Coheed single. I'm still tempted to listen to the others but the album is just around the corner so I'll refrain and just put my thoughts into my review.
I think I'm always going to be someone who finds the faults in even the best things. It's just who I am as a person. I don't think my judgement is clouded by nostalgia but I can see why some would come to that conclusion, especially when I make it a point to showcase my history with their music. I still stand by what I said on The Liar's Club and I think this song definitely "fixes" the issues I pointed out.

Liars Club is a bop for sure, but it's way too derivative of common forms, so it's good for pop, but not for Coheed
Own a chorus but hated liars clubs chorus lmao how can you have polar opposite views on the same concept of a slow build to a power chorus and you wanted to call Kendrick a hypocrite LMFAO

@@keyofweird yea definitely the heaviest on the album that and the title track but that one’s got a broadway feel so if you not into the whole concept of it being a rock opera the title track won’t hit you as hard
