    The wrong pronunciation of José Carioca normally can annoy some Brazilian's but I love how beautiful we are represented by our friends in US

    • @mevb
      @mevb 5 лет назад +7

      And real spanish people gets annoyed at americans how they butcher or bastardize the prounouncations in J sounds. Instead of the SH sound (not as in shoot but as a horking sound, you know the sound we make to prepare to spit) the americans wrongfully say H so José is prounounsed Hose-ay instead of Sch-oh-say or Jalapeños into Hall-ah-la-pen-yos instead of Sch-ah-la-pen-os. We swedes can easily say the SH sounds as we have many words starts on S, K, SK and so on that is porounced with the SH sound. If you don't know how to do it, search videos on here on RUclips for how to pronounce the SH sound.

    • @MeteorG100
      @MeteorG100 5 лет назад +10

      @@mevb Most Americans are familiar with the *Spanish* name José, and in Spanish Js are in fact pronounced like Hs (or like the ch in German 'Bach'). As for jalapeño, it's a Spanish word, so 'zhalapenyo' is incorrect; it has to be 'halapenyo' or 'chalapenyo'. It is annoying when they apply the Spanish rule to *Portuguese*, though, yes.

    • @mevb
      @mevb 5 лет назад +4

      @@MeteorG100 No, pronounching spanish Js as Hs is incorrect! I know this because I studied soanish in school even if I am a swede. It's americans keep getting the J sounds wrong so stop insisting that you're right when you're so wrong! Sheesh!

    • @turkeypedal
      @turkeypedal 5 лет назад +8

      Not only did I take Spanish classes, but I know many Spanish speakers. My sister even speaks it as a full on second language. The J does sound like the American H sound. which is either /h/, /ç/, or /x/.
      You can even confirm it on Google or Wikipedia, or literally just listen to any Spanish speaking person saying words that have Js in them.
      Oh, and you probably shouldn't lecture a country that actually has a sizeable Spanish population and many Spanish speaking neighbors. Why would anyone assume a Swede would be more likely to be correct?
      You need to consider the idea that your teacher was wrong, not everyone else.

    Fan fiction Note: José Carioca's human female counterpart is Edith, the tomboy girl with a pink hat and often dresses in pink, from the Universal Pictures and Illumination film, "Despicable Me." They both have a shy relationship and they don't open up about it. Yet, they do get along very well, defending with each other.

      His name is pronounced exactly how I say it. It is "Jo-se" _not_ "Ho-say."
      Watch the early films or any of the documentaries about them or any of the interviews with Walt Disney himself talking about the character - it is pronounced the exact way I say it - which is the Portuguese pronunciation of the name, and the way Jose Oliviera's name was pronounced.
      "Ho-se" is a Spanish pronunciation of the same name - which has strangely been used in the more 'modern' appearances of the character.
      I did my research well, which icluded watching ALL his films, and various documentaries on them. I spent weeks on this video. My familiarity of the character certainly was not low either.

      @@DaveLeeDownUnder I clicked on the wrong video, sorry about that. I was mainly referring to your first video about him. Also, I don't recall his first appearances at the moment, sorry about that too. Probably because I live in a place where "Jose" is usually produced with a "h" more often.

      That's okay, I assumed you were speaking of the first video. And don't worry about it - just thought I'd clarify.

      Rob Paulsen, himself. Would probably agree. He said in an interview 1 time, that he’s not doing characters of international decent, like that again. Cause he felt that, they need to cast “real” actors, who are of international decent.

      I never once said “Shosay”. I pronounced it “djo-say”. The correct Portuguese pronunciation. He is a Portuguese character and this is how his name is pronounced. He is not an American character and his name is certainly not pronounced “JosA”.
      I’ve had dozens of people tell me his name is pronounced “Ho-say” (also incorrect)… but this is the first time someone is telling me his name is pronounced “Jo-sA” 🤨

    Can’t go wrong with Eric Bauza! Also why do they make cartoon characters smoke cigars? It will encourage people to smoke!

      @@calebkuti7897 This is the exact reason he _doesn't_ smoke a cigar any more. You have to remember, the early films are a product of the 1940s and it was totally acceptable to depict smoking in films, even those aimed at children... because it was so culturally acceptable.
      You'll notice in the more recent cartoons he doesn't have a cigar any more - they've removed it precisely because of the bad influence it can set. There's also a lot more stringent laws in relation to the depiction of smoking on screen.

    • @calebkuti7897
      @calebkuti7897 5 лет назад

      @Dave Lee Down Under Yeah that’s what I was talking about. I know about the stringent laws but I just wanted to know about the mindset that they had back then. I’m not mad or anything but rather than an observation to not just this character but with many characters in cinema that are in products aimed at a younger audience.
