It’s truly amazing how similar the voice still is to Walt Disney’s original Mickey Mouse voice... yeah there are subtle differences between all of the VAs, and I’m sure hardcore Mickey fans can spot these subtleties and differentiate which VA did what, but over all the general voice of Mickey had stayed so consistent that I never once felt like any clip in this video sounded off putting... each and every voice actor did an amazing job at Mickey. Disney really should be proud of this astounding level of consistency.
There's a fullness to Wayne Allwine's Mickey voice that he didn't have in the beginning, probably took him a while to develop it. Idk how else to describe it, but it's that fullness that makes his Mickey sound the least like someone doing a voice. And that's not dunking on any of the others, they all did great jobs and each have their strengths, Allwine just sounds the most natural.
Yeah and I think I know why. Everyone else is talking in a straight falsetto, whereas he’s using what’s referred to in music as “mixed register”. Whereas Brett in Kingdom Hearts III still sounds like a kiddy show mascot even when Mickey is stood next to grimdark anime characters about to kill the main cast. Wayne could convince you Mickey had an actual strength beneath the pep. Brett... doesn’t quite have the range yet.
In fairness, Bret was rather abruptly thrust into the general role, as he was supposed to become Wayne's understudy. Unfortunately, Wayne passed before they could even meet, so he's basically been forced to fumble in the dark (unlike with Tony Anselmo in relation to Clarence Nash). Childhood will always be defined my Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. Wayne brought a real sense of sincerity and range to the character. And yeah, Chris is an excellent successor.
Wayne Allwine is my personal favorite. Chris Diamantopoulos is my favorite modern VA. I don't really like the one that took over the kiddy Mickey Mouse shows.
Kobe Angeles yea but there’s this other Mickey Mouse va comparison with this dude named Quinton Flynn (voice acting legend) who did a dead on impersonation of Wayne allwine’s official Mickey Mouse voice. Quinton should’ve most definitely taken over, but he was prob busy
FreeSpiritPaulette It’s such a shame that He didn’t take Wayne’s place. He did such an outstanding job playing as Mickey in a few of the 2000’s Mickey Mouse shorts. His Mickey Mouse impression sounded more energetic than Wayne’s in my opinion. I couldn’t even tell the difference. It just baffles me why Disney didn’t hire him. I mean, he even voiced Axel in the kingdom hearts series and yet he sadly didn’t voice Mickey in birth by sleep when Bret took over. But it could be that he was busy with other things. I have mixed feelings with Bret Irwin. Sometimes he sounds like Mickey and sometimes he doesn’t and can sound pretty awkward. His voice is too high even for Mickey and sounds really soft. But again, Flynn’s impression is outstanding!
I was today years old when I realised Chris Diamantopoulos, the latest voice artist for Mickey Mouse, also played the role of 'Brian the Boom Guy' in 'The Office' :)
Walt is still the gold standard, but Chris is really able to take his Mickey to new heights. Out of the rest of them Allwine is the most natural, while Iwan’s is just girly and tone deaf or something.
Ranking all Mickey voices: 1: Walt Disney 2: Wayne Allwine 3: Chris Diamantopoulos 4: Bret Iwan 5: Clarence Nash 6: Alan Young 7: Stan Freberg 8: Jimmy MacDonald 9: Joe Twerp 10: Les Perkins 11: Carl Stalling
My favorite voice of Mickey Mouse was without a doubt Wayne Allwine, he was the voice I grow up with during my childhood years and the voice I always associate when I hear Mickey Mouse, followed by Bret Iwan in 2nd place, Walt Disney in 3rd place and Jimmy MacDonald in 4th place.

I know that. I'm saying he shouldn't be. He should have at least done KH3, because he sounds closer to Mickey in the other KH games. The other guy wasn't squeaky enough and got too high pitched, like a guy playing a female character.
I absolutely adore these types of videos, I really hope you continue them! Just a thing I noticed but I believe 6:17 is a recording of Wayne Allwine singing Yankee Doodle and 9:45 is one of the earlier recordings of Bret Iwan's Mickey!
Couldn't find any sources pointing to Allwine having done a re-recording of the Yankee Doodle Mickey album - but you could be correct. A few have pointed out that Club House episode, but I have cross-checked the episodes I used. For Wayne, I used a clip from an episode titled Pop Star Minnie, to which he is credited: www.imdb.com/title/tt5160026/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
@@DaveLeeDownUnder i was probably one of those others who pointed out the pop star Mickey episode, my source being my own ears being able to tell the difference between Bret and Wayne’s Mickey, and this reference from Disney wiki on Season 4 (THE LAST SEASON OF MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE) of Mickey Mouse: Season 4 Season 4 This is the fourth and final season of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. And the first time, Bret Iwan took over the voice of Mickey as Wayne Allwine died in 2009. The first episode aired in November 5, 2012, while the rest of the episodes aired in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the series' final episode aired on November 6, 2016. 1. Mickey And Donald Have A Farm 2. Quest For The Crystal Mickey 3. Daisy's Pony Tale 4. Mickey's Farm Fun Fair 5. The Wizard Of Dizz 6. Super Adventure! 7. Mickey's Mystery 8. Minnie's Pet Salon 9. Minnie-Rella 10. Mickey's Clubhouse Rocks 11. Donald Jr. 12. Sea Captain Mickey 13. Mickey's Pirate Adventure 14. Mickey's Happy Mousekeday 15. Minnie's Winter Bow Show 16. Around The Clubhouse World 17. Mickey's Mousekeball 18. Donald's Brand New Clubhouse 19. Mickey's Mousekedoer Adventure 20. Mickey's Monster Musical 21. Pop Star Minnie 22. Chef Goofy On The Go 23. Oh Toodles 24. Mickey's Sport-Y-Thon 25. Martian Minnie's Tea Party 26. A Goofy Fairy Tale Basically all the prior episodes listed had Bret’s voice in it and it was the last season of Mickey Mouse clubhouse (in 2012 I might add, a full 3 years after Wayne’s passing), and if you watch the whole pop star Minnie episode yourself and not just the opening, you’ll be able to tell more of a difference in Mickey’s voice compared to Wayne’s voice, because it’s Bret doing it. IMDb isn’t always correct. Sorry if anything in my comment came off as short or rude.
@Dave Lee Down Under that’s nice but actually Bret Iwan voices him in that episode sense it’s was on season 4 and season 4 was when Bret Iwan started voices him in that’s series
Amazing compilation! However, the version of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse intro you used as a Wayne Allwine clip is actually Bret! Here's a link to Wayne's version: ruclips.net/video/GQm2gbgMSYo/видео.html
It's definitely Bret. IMDb can be wrong. This is Wayne's recording of the intro: ruclips.net/video/GQm2gbgMSYo/видео.html Also, the episode Pop Star Minnie aired 6 years after Wayne passed away.

My thoughts on each of the main voice actors: Walt Disney’s depiction of Mickey’s voice started it all, he made him sound like the legend he wanted and has the perfect fitting charm to it. Jimmy MacDonald is good, although Mickey sounds like he’s hiding a foreign accent. Wayne Allwine was a perfect successor, he actually gives Mickey’s voice more of an emotional tone when he squeals in anger or sadness, and he always sounds energetic when he’s in the right mood. Bret Iwan honestly sounds more like an impression of Mickey than his actual voice. He does try his best to sound like Mickey but he usually sounds off. Chris Diamantopoulos is a better successor who truly captures the character well and even sounds more like Disney’s depiction of Mickey. I wish they used him more.
Fantastic new spinoff series. I love it. However, and may ears may be deceiving me, but you may want to double check Wayne’s final clip with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse intro. I’m not 100% sure, but that sounds more like Bret Iwan. It’s possible you grabbed an intro from a later season. It’s also possible it’s completely fine and I’m wrong. Figured I’d at least throw the concern out there.
Thank you. A few people have said the same thing, but I’ve cross checked the episodes with the credited voice actors and it’s definitely Wayne. It’s from an episode titled Pop Star Minnie, to which Wayne is credited. www.imdb.com/title/tt5160026/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
Just ranking the 5 main voices, my top 5 are: 1. Wayne Allwine 2. Chris Diamantopoulos 3. Walt Disney 4. Jimmy MacDonald 5. Bret Iwan Honestly, I don’t really even like Bret Iwan. Any of the understudies were better than him frankly.
Lucky Dragon Agree to Disagree but Bret isn’t that bad as Mickey Mouse, in fact he was supposed to meet Wayne Allwine and be an understudy for him when he was ill prior before he passed away from diabetes in May 2009.
Wayne Allwine is the standard i hold all Mickey voices up to, since I watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as a kid, and thus that's the Mickey that's ingrained in my brain
Well I was wondering why Mickey sounded different in kh3. This is explained perfectly. Idk Bret doesn’t sound as upbeat (I guess) in comparison to Wayne in kh1 and 2. Everyone I talked to all agreed that Mickey sounded so off on kh3.
JoSilverNG Agreed. Bret Iwan is a great Mickey. The voice direction in Kingdom Hearts 3 probably screwed him up which sucks because I love Bret as Mickey.
SonicShadow98 that or the fact that this was the first time he voiced him since KH3D since they went and replaced him with that Chris guy in the cartoons
Arin Lewis I swear to god, if I hear the BS claim that Chris Diamantopoulos replaced Bret Iwan one more time, I’m gonna lose it. Chris Diamantopoulos only voices Mickey Mouse in the 2013 cartoon shorts. Everywhere else Mickey is voiced by Bret Iwan, even in Mickey & the Roaster Racers (another Mickey Cartoon Show btw). The reason why Paul Rudish didn’t bother to get Bret Iwan for the 2013 Cartoon shorts is because he wanted to get a voice that sounded more closer to Walt Disney’s Mickey for these shorts so he hired Chris Diamantopoulos ONLY FOR THOSE SHORTS! Paul Rudish could have hired Bret Iwan to reprise for the shorts like he did for Russi Taylor, Bill Farmer and Tony Anselmo, among others but he didn’t because the shorts are using the classic Mickey Mouse design but semi modernized and Bret Iwan’s voice just wouldn’t fit for that so Rudish got Chris Diamantopoulos to voice Mickey in those shorts- which I respect that decision as much as I love Bret Iwan as Mickey. That’s the reason why Bret Iwan was “replaced” by Chris Diamantopoulos as Mickey in those shorts. Chris Diamantopoulos is just an understudy, Walt Disney sound alike in case Bret Iwan can’t be used and I think it’s the same deal with Daniel Ross voicing Donald Duck in Mickey and the Roaster Racers instead of Tony Anselmo, despite Tony Anselmo reprising as Donald Duck in the Ducktales reboot. Disney theme parks, video games, Mickey and the Roaster Racers and every other production involving Mickey (besides occasionally the recycling of clips left over from the late Wayne Allwine), Mickey is voiced by Bret Iwan and outside of Kingdom Hearts 3, Bret Iwan sounds fine everywhere else- even after 2013. Bret Iwan even sounded fine in Mickey and the Roaster Racers so I assume it was crappy voice direction that made Bret Iwan (for the most part) completely suck in Kingdom Hearts 3. I heard mixed reviews about Kingdom Hearts 3, and I think Bret Iwan’s voice for Mickey has faulted in it compared to say, Mickey & the Roaster Racers, where he did just fine.
for some reason, I really liked Iwan’s voice when he first started as Mickey Mouse because it sounded very similar as Allwine’s but not as much when he did Mickey and the Roadster Racers. I grew up with Allwine’s voice so of course he has to be my number one lol. the new VA for the shorts, Chris, has a unique voice that I wouldn’t say compares to the others but has its charm. it’s very distinct
I literally just came here to see if Wayne was the voice of Mickey in Kingdom hearts and oh my god you put the door to darkness scene i just bust laugh real hard man xDD
I love your video! HOWEVER, you made a fatal mistake. The intro of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that you inserted (9:32) is NOT Wayne Allwine's intro. In fact, that is the replaced intro, voiced by Bret Iwan after Allwine's passing (which occurs from season 4 onwards).
No, that ain't right. Bret took over the voice in 2009, and the clip you we're looking at was Clubhouse footage from 2009. It's also not the first Clubhouse clip shown.
Out of the main voices Walt Disney: I know he's the original voice actor and set the idea of what Mickey Mouse's voice is supposed to sound like, but there's too much variation. Sometimes he has a high and squeaky voice (what we're used to). Other times it's a lot lower. Wayne Allwine: He has the voice I'm most used to and familiar with and he's the most consistent. He also put more "jollyness" and enthusiasm to the voice so it doesn't just sound like a man talking in falsetto. Brett Iwan: I don't understand the hate. Out of all the voice actors on this list, he sounds the most similar to Wayne Allwine- everyone's favourite. Initially, the voice was a tad too high pitched to what I'm used to, but over the years, he came a bit closer to Wayne's voice. I think he still has to work on the consistency, but he's not as bad as people make him out to be. Chris Diamantopulos: Not many people know that the reason why there are currently two Mickey Mouse voice actors (though Brett Iwan is still the official voice of Mickey Mouse) is because for the 2013 series, they wanted someone who's voice more closely matched that of Walt Disney's. Personally, I don't hate Chris' impression. It's just not what I'm used to.

7:03 Wayne's voice change in 1990 and then into 1995 was great! Set the bar for Mickey Mouse from now on.
Wayne Allwine and Walt Disney are my favorites.
You picking walt disney is understandable
Childhood will always be defined my Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas. Wayne brought a real sense of sincerity and range to the character.
And yeah, Chris is an excellent successor.
SAME 😭😭 Mickey's once upon a Christmas was my absolute favorite I will watch it every Christmas
Wayne Allwine is my personal favorite.
Chris Diamantopoulos is my favorite modern VA. I don't really like the one that took over the kiddy Mickey Mouse shows.
The one who took over the kids shows is the official voice of Mickey Mouse
Walt Waine and Chris are the best, but how did Walt return in the 50s for Mickey Mouse Club if he couldn’t do Mickey’s voice after 1947?
@@tetsmcalfy6360Walt Disney was showing age in the 1950s. Clarence Nash’s recordings of Donald Duck in the 1980s displayed some age too.
I was today years old when I realised Chris Diamantopoulos, the latest voice artist for Mickey Mouse, also played the role of 'Brian the Boom Guy' in 'The Office' :)
The beginning was the most holy thing I’ve ever read
Walt is still the gold standard, but Chris is really able to take his Mickey to new heights. Out of the rest of them Allwine is the most natural, while Iwan’s is just girly and tone deaf or something.
I miss Wayne Allwine
Honestly same here as I missed my dad’s mom (nana)
Ranking all Mickey voices:
1: Walt Disney
2: Wayne Allwine
3: Chris Diamantopoulos
4: Bret Iwan
5: Clarence Nash
6: Alan Young
7: Stan Freberg
8: Jimmy MacDonald
9: Joe Twerp
10: Les Perkins
11: Carl Stalling
Walt Disney, Jimmy MacDonald, and Wayne Allwine are the 3 golden Mickey’s
Chris also did good do
Well yeah that too.
all different but similar in mickey voices
Every time I hear Wayne it just makes me cry.
It was just so special and brought much joy to me as a child
FreeSpiritPaulette same
Diamtopolouseses mickey is by far my favorite. He gives so much life and energy to the character
The 90s voice is most iconic
7:35 **OOOH Mickey~**
Walt and Wayne will always be my favorite Mickey voices. I can do a pretty good impression myself.
Walt Disney,&..Chris Diamountopolis Are My Fav Mickey Voice.
Wayne and Russi were my favorite Mickey and Minnie. So sweet that they were a couple in real life.
I was surprised that Clarance (Ducky) Nash did also Mickey in one Mickey Mouse short.
That one short where Mickey was dubbed by Donald's voice actor and was cool AF!
Honestly, I clicked on this just so I can hear the "Hot Dogs" line again...
😂😂
Same
I love that part I wish he voiced Mickey more
It’s a bum hooch dance, keep your money in your pants!
@@LoogieSezMCsame with Wayne
I love Walt's voices how different they are and also that he used other people in his works
For Wayne Allwine’s clip of Mickey Mouse clubhouse you used an episode where he was voiced by Bret Iwan
I cross-checked my episodes with their official cast listings, it's Allwine.
@@AnimationNation2004 You are right. That's NOT my buddy Wayne. IMDB, and Wikipedia are wrong on my credits too. I wish more professional fact and history checking were done before posting. @Animation Nation Wayne didn’t change how he did the voice, Dave put the wrong clip accidentally. I promise you watch the link I provided
@TONY ANSELMO sorry for your loss (if you’re the real tony of course if not please go away) have a good day
@@tonyanselmo9234 it’s like you and Wayne are brother figures of yourselves!
Seeing Wayne's Mickey voice in 1977 and then in 1990/95 is staggering
He made Mickey come alive for me.
Also I enjoy Clarence Nash's Mickey, whatdya know!
my childhood year was Wayne Allwine's voice to Mickey, and I loved it, I started to imitate his voice
I kinda like Brett Irwan’s voice the least. Too high. Even for Mickey
Chris Diamantopolous does a better job, and I think should have done Kingdom Hearts III. He mimics the more standard voices better.
ZipplyZane But Chris ONLY exclusively voices in the 2013 Mickey Mouse shorts much like how David Tennant ONLY voices Scrooge McDuck in the 2017 reboot.
I know that. I'm saying he shouldn't be. He should have at least done KH3, because he sounds closer to Mickey in the other KH games.
The other guy wasn't squeaky enough and got too high pitched, like a guy playing a female character.
Wayne Allwine was, is, and always will be my favorite Mickey Mouse. He just added such depth and emotion to his voice.
I prefer Walt Disney
This is a great follow-up of the Mickey Mouse voice suppliers. Also Starting with Walt Disney himself.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder i was probably one of those others who pointed out the pop star Mickey episode, my source being my own ears being able to tell the difference between Bret and Wayne’s Mickey, and this reference from Disney wiki on Season 4 (THE LAST SEASON OF MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE) of Mickey Mouse:
Season 4
Season 4 This is the fourth and final season of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. And the first time, Bret Iwan took over the voice of Mickey as Wayne Allwine died in 2009. The first episode aired in November 5, 2012, while the rest of the episodes aired in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the series' final episode aired on November 6, 2016.

23. Oh Toodles
24. Mickey's Sport-Y-Thon

26. A Goofy Fairy Tale
Basically all the prior episodes listed had Bret’s voice in it and it was the last season of Mickey Mouse clubhouse (in 2012 I might add, a full 3 years after Wayne’s passing), and if you watch the whole pop star Minnie episode yourself and not just the opening, you’ll be able to tell more of a difference in Mickey’s voice compared to Wayne’s voice, because it’s Bret doing it. IMDb isn’t always correct. Sorry if anything in my comment came off as short or rude.
@Dave Lee Down Under that’s nice but actually Bret Iwan voices him in that episode sense it’s was on season 4 and season 4 was when Bret Iwan started voices him in that’s series
Thank you, I noticed that too
Amazing compilation! However, the version of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse intro you used as a Wayne Allwine clip is actually Bret! Here's a link to Wayne's version: ruclips.net/video/GQm2gbgMSYo/видео.html

9:43 That's actually Brent Iwan.
No, it's not. It's from the episode Pop Star Minnie, to which Wayne is credited by all sources.

@@DaveLeeDownUnderOkay.
It's definitely Bret. IMDb can be wrong. This is Wayne's recording of the intro: ruclips.net/video/GQm2gbgMSYo/видео.html Also, the episode Pop Star Minnie aired 6 years after Wayne passed away.

Knowing Walt Disney voicing Mickey is mindblowing cool!!
That’s so cool about Clarence being both Donald and Mickey during his time! I’m a Disney and voice acting nerd and even I had no idea.
first time watching and this is amazing
Wow, it's incredible how different all of Mickey's portrayals are, yet also so incredible similar.
That is pretty neat
Damn Wayne was my childhood and Chris’ Mickey radiates chaotic Energy with the newer Mickey show lol
2:36
The voice of Donald Duck himself voiced as Mickey Mouse once where Walt was unavailable at that time.
My thoughts on each of the main voice actors:
Walt Disney’s depiction of Mickey’s voice started it all, he made him sound like the legend he wanted and has the perfect fitting charm to it.
It’s oddly surreal seeing Walt Disney himself talk in such a high pitched voice! 😂

Please continue to make Explained videos about the Disney voices. Explained is my favorite of your series.
Thank you! I'll definitely be making companion 'Voice Evolution' videos for every character that I cover in the main series :)
Love it
Wayne and Chris are my favorites
Just ranking the 5 main voices, my top 5 are:
1. Wayne Allwine
2. Chris Diamantopoulos
3. Walt Disney
4. Jimmy MacDonald
5. Bret Iwan
Honestly, I don’t really even like Bret Iwan. Any of the understudies were better than him frankly.
Bret's voice just screams that one line bart said in The Simpsons Movie: "I'm the mascot of an evil corporation"
7:50 Pluto: Yeah Yeah Yeah
This was incredibly entertaining! I appreciate all the hard work you put into this! It was probably a nightmare editing this sucker!
Thank you! It was a bit of a task - but a bit easier than the regular 'Evolution' videos.
“Music, dancing, fun!” “ *wow* “ Those kids sound so phoned in.
Can't wait for Daisy Duck's voice!
My favourite voice for Mickey will always be Wayne.
AyaAraleMUA I love Bret Iwan as Mickey but he just doesn’t have it in him anymore; at least for now.
Im pretty sure it was just the voice direction. He does a pretty good mickey, I'd have to imagine the way he sounds was deliberate.
I like 90s and 2000s Mickey animation . It looks so smooth and expressive
Great video
Thanks!
Walt Disney is the best out of all
More like wayne allwine
@@KSAM428 I always thought Walt Disney had a smooth voice Wayne comes up as a close 2nd
for some reason, I really liked Iwan’s voice when he first started as Mickey Mouse because it sounded very similar as Allwine’s but not as much when he did Mickey and the Roadster Racers. I grew up with Allwine’s voice so of course he has to be my number one lol. the new VA for the shorts, Chris, has a unique voice that I wouldn’t say compares to the others but has its charm. it’s very distinct
Wayne Allwine was my childhood and will always be my favorite voice for Mickey.
Awesome
Chris' falsetto sounds most like Walt
I saw Bret Iwan in a panel at Comic Con. He’s absolutely delightful. I like him as Mickey, personally. He brings a lot of energy to the role.
I literally just came here to see if Wayne was the voice of Mickey in Kingdom hearts and oh my god you put the door to darkness scene i just bust laugh real hard man xDD
I like this new series.
Is this intro from season 4?
Yeah
The first clip of Mickey mouse clubhouse you used was bret not wayne
No, that ain't right. Bret took over the voice in 2009, and the clip you we're looking at was Clubhouse footage from 2009.
It's also not the first Clubhouse clip shown.
You’re right! I noticed that too!
I grew up with two voices. Allwine for stuff that was made in my childhood and Disney on a TV recording with some old shorts+Mickey & The Beanstalk.
Holy hell, I never realise Disney himself voices Mickey that’s amazing!!! 😁
Out of the main voices
Walt Disney: I know he's the original voice actor and set the idea of what Mickey Mouse's voice is supposed to sound like, but there's too much variation.
Rebekah I thought I was the only one who felt like Bret who sounded similar to Wayne the more I heard it Bret isn’t bad either he comes close to wayne
I like how Kingdom Hearts Mickey is included~
